Tulum means "wall" referring to the fact that was a walled city for control and defense, composed of a rampart and watchtowers, as well strategic access to land and sea. The mayan considered the Earth as a flat, immobile body and the nature provided all that was necessary for securing and sustenance. About the religion, all the mayan gods were presents in one or more elements of nature, astros, atmospheric phenomena and animals, so Tulum was dedicated to Venus, a deity with a dual nature: the morning and evening star.
