Alright please excuse my literal 10 second doodles but I needed to get this across. First of all I only speak for myself because every artist is different and I’m not going to guess how other artists feel about this but here are my feelings.

When I post a drawing whether it’s a doodle or something I worked really hard on I’m proud of either, it’s something I created and came up with and makes me feel special in some way. A few times this month already I’ve caught some people reblogging said artwork but adding on their own piece of art in the reblog comments. Sometimes they’re for jumping in on the idea and one other time it was actually to make fun of what I drew.

If it wasn’t bad enough I’ve caught the rebloggers of those pieces saying how the post was made much better by the contribution or how they only cared about the piece now that the add on picture was put in. And that’s…very hurtful. You can’t please everyone and cater to everyone’s interests, I understand this but knowing that my art suddenly meant nothing because someone “made it better” just sometimes makes me not want to post any art. And It’s like everyone overlooks what I drew and suddenly just zooms in on the contributed piece and gives that piece more importance.

I just really feel it’s like someone just took your sketchbook and starting drawing over your drawings, they’ve ruined something you put your heart into. The respectful thing to do if the person REALLY wants to make a contribution is to make their own post on their own blog and link back to the original or at least ask if it’s okay. 

This is tumblr and you can’t stop everyone from doing things like this and it will happen some time or another to me or whomever else but I don’t find it fair. Let artists have their moment let them feel proud of the things they made with their heart and mind, don’t let them feel like they were only a tool to boost your own self.
