smth I wrote some time ago and may or may not post eventually—it’s supposed to be a multichap fic
His questmates were dead.
His questmates were dead, and Luke would soon join them.
He barely glanced sideways—just enough to catch a glimpse—and the urge to vomit clawed at his throat, mixing with the fire in his veins (gods, how he burned—his lungs, his veins—)
Their bodies—
They were unrecognizable. Luke could barely tell where the armor began and where skin ended, only seeing an amalgamation of flesh and metal, like an experiment gone wrong, and the limbs—they were twisted unnaturally.
Or maybe lacking altogether. He couldn’t tell.
He gulped dryly, keeping his gaze on them as if under a spell. His mind was clouded, his thoughts tilted, like the ground beneath his feet had dipped at an angle he had not been prepared for, leaving him struggling to steady himself.
Off-footed.
It felt as if everything was both so far away and yet so unbearably close.
Around him. Inside him. Everywhere.
It hurt. Everything hurt.
But this—
This cut through the haze in his mind as easily as the ripping of paper.

More rock the cradle—smth short
Luke looked down, Lykē blinking at him, that open, wide-eyed wonder in his son's eyes, like Luke had traveled to the sky and become the reason it could boast of stars.

So I have to thank you. "Bear patiently my heart" was the first ever Luke fic I read, and ever since then I have been on fire for Luke and Hermes. Luke is probably my new favourite PJO character now after I began to become annoyed with Percy's character.
I want to ask what got you interested in Hermes/Luke? Why exactly the sexual/romantic route over exploring the platonic? Do you mainly like the power dynamics involved?
Is there another Luke ship you enjoy after Hermes/Luke?
I’m very happy to hear that! It’s really rewarding to be told that a fic I wrote made someone see a character differently or enjoy them more.
I’m very partial to dead dove content. I’ve always enjoyed darker, more morally complex themes, and I read a lot of classical literature—from Dostoyevsky to Aluísio Azevedo, and the ancient Greek classics too. In short, I just find those explorations really compelling. With Hermes and Luke in particular, I was working on a different fic elsewhere when their dynamic caught my attention, and I started wondering, ‘what if?’ I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I write to satisfy my own itch, lol. The hermes/luke tag was pretty empty when I started (still is), so I’ve been putting in the work.
I enjoy almost any pairing with Luke, but I have a particular fondness for dionysus/luke. There’s something really compelling about the way Dionysus’ domains—especially madness—intersect with Luke’s character. It has a lot of potential.

My ideas for Ho Kallistē
— Luke tries to drown Lykē and Hermes finds him during this.
— Luke does something that angers Hermes, and as punishment, Hermes brutally subjects him to violence... Phoebe witnesses this.
— There is an innocent childish conversation, complete ignorance and.. Luke really tells Phoebe that they have the same father, which means Phoebe can consider him not only her parent, but also her brother. Luke only realizes what he said after he says it out loud.
All nice ideas! I have something sad planned for Lykē and Luke actually (smth about how Luke doesn’t smile at Lykē like he does at Phoebe.) But I quite like the awkward I’m your brother moment, we’ll see if it fits the story tho.

You accept ideas and suggestions that people may recommend adding to your fanfiction 👀👀
I find brainstorming with people very productive, so I might consider some suggestions—ofc, I cannot promise I’ll take all of them in consideration 😅

Ho Kallistē
does this fanfiction have a playlist/songs that are associated/listening to which you wrote this fanfiction?
Not really! I wrote it via vibes, lol. But if anyone made a playlist for it I’d be happy to give a listen.

Ho Kallistē
— Did Hermes do something like this with his children before Luke?
— In mythology, something is known about Luke, his "marriage" with Hermes and their children?
— What if Luke had a miscarriage/had an abortion/the baby was stillborn?
— Do the other gods know about this?
1 - yep, Luke was the first Hermes played house with
2 - Yes! Some myths about it would rise. But probably historians/etc wouldn’t put much weight on those. In summary, it’d be kinda like a niche, less know myth (I’ve even spoke to @tealvneu about it—an au with a yearly “chase,” if Luke ever became immortal)
3 - Hermes would shrug and try for another… (It’s a scenario that I’m debating whether to add to the fic or not actually)
4 - That’s something that’ll be addressed in the fic, so no spoilers 😉

Since this seems to be what people do around here, here’s a snippet of rock the cradle, my son:
Luke breathed in deep—shaky—eyes tracing his son’s features.
Lykē was small, blinking his blue eyes—blue as Phoebe’s, as Luke’s, as Hermes’—as if getting used to being alive, staring up at him with the confused openness newborns often had.
But—
Luke traced them again, hands flexing lightly, more desperate now to see more of himself.
But he didn’t find it.
Black curly hair. Bronze skin. The shape of his cheekbones.
All of it.
He looked at his son, and Hermes’ face stared back at him.

antleredbunny !! definitely wasn't expecting to see your profile pic in my notifs hahahaha what finally pushed you to join tumblr 👀
A reader asked me if I had a tumblr months ago—which I remembered recently—so I thought why not? Plus being curious in general. In any way, it’s not like I’ll be very active, lol. But I’ll always answer if people send me asks ofc.
Love your art btw. If you ever do that art of pregnant Luke, I’d be delighted to see it.
And it was very surprising to see people talking about my lil dead dove content, lmao. Never thought I’d see it. It’s a good feeling tho.

I truly believe that if you’re going to engage with Greek mythology then you have to put the moral purity aside. None of the characters are going to behave according to our modern sense of morality or ethics. So you either have to get over it OR you have to be willing to dive deeper into the narrative and research the context. Instead of saying “Zeus is clearly a predator” ask yourself WHY are there so many stories about Zeus having babies with mortal women? What’s the significance? Dive deeper into the story and realize the location is ALWAYS mentioned and focused on. See that the child that was conceived typically goes on to do world changing things such as founding a new kingdom…a kingdom that’s usually related to the location that the narrative kept focusing on….huh I wonder why? Perhaps maybe these stories are not about how Zeus likes to get his dick wet (forgive my bluntness Big Poppa! 🙏🏻) but about kingdoms and royalty wanting to link their beginnings to the King of Kings himself??? Maybe????? Possibly??? But I’m just guessing 🤷🏻‍♀️

One of my favourite bits of linguistic trivia is that in Ancient Greek, the word ἰχώρ (cognate to the modern English "ichor") is attested in extant literature to mean both "the bodily fluid which gods possess instead of blood", and also "gravy", which implies several things about Ancient Greek culinary culture's attitude toward gravy.

a quick psa to anyone recently getting into greek mythology and is a victim of tumblr and/or tiktok misconceptions:
-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings
-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)
-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)
-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)
-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same
-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well
-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped
-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt
-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians
-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be
-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia
-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that
-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told
-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions
-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect
-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think
greek mythology is so complex and interesting, don't go into it with preconcieved notions! try to be open to learn!
