• how he waits for you to brush his teeth at night to admire your reflection in the mirror and just be with you a little more

• how he gently hums your favorite song whispering in your ear to lull you

• how he strokes your hair thinking about how beautiful you are

•...if this is already too much for your heart to handle... you're not ready for Ushijima as a dad

• What? You still here?... Very well. You must really want to know what kind of dad Ushi would be and I can't blame you:

• Ushijima, never in his whole life, would have expected to become a father

• but the moment he becomes one...ah~

• he's so so careful with your baby:

• his touch is so gentle and delicate while holding the baby against his soft pecs: patting and caressing his back to make him feel safe and warm until he falls asleep 🥺

• his calloused fingers playing with the much smaller and puffier ones of your newborn. Your baby would grab them and play with them non stop and Ushijima would be so endeared and fascinated by this, smiling softly all the time 🥺

• Ushijima would be afraid to harm your baby since he's so big and rough and it would be adorable watching him dealing with a small little thing who would always smile and laugh for his daddy

• And when he's far from home?

• Don't worry. Ushijima's lock screen is a picture he took himself of his wonderful family. It's a bit blurry but it still warms his heart everytime he sees it

• Also, he would be so proud about you two finally having a baby, but not in a ''show off'' way

• He would occasionally show pictures of your baby to his teammates saying how much he resembles you

• and oh, about resemblances... big boy ushi is obsessed!!

• Ushi would spend HOURS looking, almost inspecting, your baby just to find the smallest details that make him think of you... like: "he definitely has your nose"

• he would love to spend time with his precious baby everytime he has the opportunity

• he particularly loves taking him out with his brand new ergonomic baby carrier ù.ù

• he also would love to take him to the playground and observe his little child play clumsily with his first volley ball (it's a gift from Ushi, of course)

• Ushijima would really feel bad if he ever missed some of his baby's "firsts"

• like his first word or his first few steps

• About the first steps... just picture Ushijima holding your baby's chubby hands as he slowly takes small steps. Ushijima would smile so softly 🥺

• So, overall... Ushijima would be such a great and loving father. So patient and so attentive... all he would wish for is for his child to be healthy and feel loved by both his parents, unlike him :")

It was already past midnight when Ushijima finally returned home after a long day.

The lights of your house were switched off and it was dark throughout the room.

You were resting on the sofa in the living room: you promised yourself to wait for him to come back home but you eventually ended up falling asleep.

But Ushijima's expression was sweet the moment he saw you: his tired face softened as he saw you all snuggled up and pouty in your sleep.

he cocked an eyebrow, a bit confused and baffled by your question. "what do you mean?"

you began to explain yourself, "i mean, what is your biggest dream that you hope to accomplish in the future? there must be something you wanna do right?"

kuroo hummed in response, pondering at your question.

the stars were shining relatively bright that night as the both of you lay on the familiar rooftop of the emptied out five storied building.

"i wanna get a fulfilling job," kuroo began. "and then when i get that job, i'll make good cash and help out my older sister, dad, and grandma. and then maybe i'll get to spread my love for volleyball to future generations. i wanna inspire others to play the sport that i love so dearly."

“that’s really nice tetsu. really nice and sweet.”

you smiled at the picture of kuroo teaching an eight-year old how to receive a volleyball and him bending down at the height of the child just to reward them with a high five.

but a feeling of misplacement and insecurity lingered within. the entire time he mentioned of all his dreams and desires but not once did he mention your name or your presence or your anything.

did he not see you in his dreams? did he not see you in his future?

did he even want you in that way?

you, for one, were willing to spend the rest of your life with the boy lying next to you. you wanted to be the one he woke up next to. the one he would pepper kisses with. the one he would go on dates with.

you even wanted to be the one he would marry. and even be the one to start a family with him and make him a father.

but you couldn’t say this aloud.

this would probably deem you as selfish or self-absorbed which is something you didn’t want him to see you as.

his voice brought you out of your thoughts. “how about you? what’s your dream in the future?”

you turned your head to face his; his head was still facing upwards looking at the vast darkness above the both of you.

for a moment, you didn’t say anything. you needed a moment to consolidate your thoughts.

what was your dream? did you even have a dream? did you even have goals or passions that you hoped to pursue?

you knew the answer to this. no.

mentally preparing for how you would respond to his question, you replied, “i just wanna live a good life where i’m happy. i wanna live a life with no regrets.”

he hummed in response. you knew your “dream” was nothing in comparison to your boyfriend��s. he had clear cut goals while you were just undecided about everything.

“i like that,” he starts. “your dream sounds very comforting.”

“you really think so?” you questioned.

he made an attempt to nod his head while being in a laid down position. “i think it’s quite you and it reflects who you are.”

“‘quite me’?” you echoed his words back.

he chuckled. “it kinda reminds me how you’re so aloof about things sometimes. and how everything you do, you do it with no strings attached and no regrets with what may happen in the future.”

“i see,” you stated. you weren’t really sure how to interpret this. was he saying it in an inspiring manner or was he disappointed with the way you were?

no words exchanged the between of you for a few moments until you felt kuroo’s hand finding its way to yours.

“what are you doing?” you began. using his thumb, he began to rub tiny circles on the back of your hand.

“i wanted to know if you see… if you see us in the future..” he slowly and hesitantly asked.

completely shifting views from the sky to his side profile, your mouth fell slightly agape. quickly regaining composure, you took a moment to respond back.

“i wanna live a life where i’m happy tetsu,” you started to explain. his grip on your hand slightly tightened but you didn’t say anything. “and whenever you’re with me, i’m always happy.”

you saw the little smile that flashed on his lips by observing his side profile. and you couldn’t help but let a little smile slip as well.

now that he popped the question first, it couldn’t hurt to ask too right? or would it bring the atmosphere down?

“how about me?” you quickly stated.

he turned his head to look at you. “what do you mean ‘how about me?’”

“you know… is there an ‘us’ in the future you dream of?

“angel, you’re always in my dreams of the future.”

he stroked your hair with his large, calloused hands as you stared into those golden eyes of his that always made your heart race. your eyes had widened slightly at the words that just escaped his lips.

he turned his head looking back up at the sky. “you know that thing people say where ‘if you say your goals aloud, you’ll never reach them.’”

incredulous at the statement, you stared at him. “people say what now?”

he waved his hand, brushing off the matter. “okay well, the reason i didn’t say anything was mainly because i didn’t want that to be the case.. for us.”

you were quiet, unsure of how to reply. but to your relief, kuroo continued to talk regardless.

“but it wouldn’t hurt to talk about where i see us years from now.”

your eyes lit up in a way and it definitely didn’t go unnoticed by him. he felt his heart beat a little faster than before.

“well, for starters, after i get a good job, i’ll get your parents and my dad and grandma’s blessing. and then i’ll take you away. i’ll take you away and get down on one knee and ask you to be mine forevermore. and then you’ll say yes and i’ll place the finest piece of jewelry onto your ring finger.”

“and then maybe a few months later, i’ll be standing at the altar, watching your pretty self walk down the aisle in your gorgeous dress along with a bouquet of marigolds, that i picked out, in your hands. we’ll exchange our vows of loving one another forever and then when we finish, i’ll gently grab your face in my hands and kiss you like the first time.”

“and then one day, i’ll buy us the nicest home in the world. and then we’ll live together and spend our time in each other’s embrace.”

“and maybe… eventually… we’ll start a little family. with a few kids running about in the place we call home. and then we’ll help these kids grow up into fine people and we’ll watch them go out to do so many great things in the future.”

“but in the end, i’ll always be chasing after you and you’ll always be the one who ends up in my arms. and there’s nothing more i could ask for in this life.”

he looked away from the sky to see your face and you were still looking at the sky. a smile was fully etched on to your face but a few tears slipped the sides of your face.

“hey hey hey hey… i didn’t mean to make you cry. i’m sorry. did i say something wrong?” he panicked.

you looked over at him. “no you didn’t say anything wrong.”

his hand went to your cheek, gently stroking it as he asked, “then why are you crying angel?”

“i’m just..” you paused. “i’m just really really glad you’re mine tetsu.”

USHIJIMA DRABBLE || birthday thoughts

tw: tiny bit of angst ..?, mention of divorced parents, childhood trauma(?), fluff/comfort ending.

Ushijima never celebrated his birthday because he was afraid that no one would come to his party, you know, being born in the middle of August, everybody enjoying their holidays, the hot weather and all of that...

But maybe, he didn't even care about his birthday... what's so special about it anyways?

He thought of himself as a burden on his divorced parents. He would have to choose between his mother and his father every year and it made him both sad and sorry. To his young eyes, he was always out of place.

But what about now?

His tall frame and his big arms resting on a small table, a half-melted ice-cream cake in front of him and a tiny birthday hat sprouting from his fluffy hair. Ushijima has a confused face while Tendou is giggling and Goshiki is shushing him.

"What's this cake for?... and this hat..?"

Poor boy, he's so oblivious. But his eyes sparkle as he sees you walking into the room.

"Happy birthday, Wakatoshi!"

Your soft voice melts his heart as he realizes what's happening.

"To me? Is this for me? Why?"

Ushijima stands tall looking around like a lost puppy while you're all giggling and smiling at his cute reaction.

"Why not? It's your birthday today, isn't it? We wanted to celebrate our ace" you say.

Never, in his whole life, somebody remembered about his birthday. He felt his heart getting lighter as you left a sweet kiss on his flushed cheek.

"I don't know what to say"

"You don't have to say anything! Let's just eat some cake, want some?" Tendou says already digging into the cake.

Ushijima was still very confused but he finally started to enjoy his surprise-party and he thought that, maybe, he wasn't out of place anymore.

I just wanted to add a few things:

- Ushijima loves the sea but hates seafood because "fish are friends, not food".

- He can't betray Nemo 😔✊🏻

- also, when he's at the beach ushi drinks gallons of water and goes around the beach with his precious water bottle.

- children are often afraid of him but when he's at the beach it's different, but why?

- Did I mention how strong this big boy is? He could carry 4 or 5 kids with no problems.

- While Ushi is swimming, imagine a bunch of mischievous kids looking at him, but like,,, staring.

- Ushi obviously has his typical straight face but he knows he's being observed.

- guess what? He ends up being those kids carousel 🤡. But he kinda enjoys it! After all they're not afraid of him 🥺

- he finds himself being at ease playing with those kids and in his face you can see, if you squeeze your eyes enough, a soft and content smile.

- in those moments he would think how cool it would be if he had his own kids to play with

- and he would look towards the shore to meet your eyes and think "it has to be with Y/n"

Also, I have no idea of how exams work around the world but here in Italy we have both oral exams and written exams (Like everywhere I think... and I hope???) so this is based on Italian exams and my experiences uwu

1. Even though they still have nightmares about their past exams they decided to attend your oral exams and they're probably more anxious than you: Yamaguchi, Hinata, Goshiki, Asahi, Daichi, Takeda, Yachi, Akiteru, Issei.

2. They celebrate the day you finish your exams as if it were a national holiday and, no matter what is the outcome, they set up the equivalent of a royal banquet in honour of your freedom: Sugawara, Tanaka, Taketora, Kuroo, Nishinoya, Oikawa, Bokuto.

3. They forget that "today" was the day of your exam and are very confused when they see you so agitated: Ushijima, Atsumu, Semi, Lev, Daishou, Bokuto, Kageyama.

4. They wake up before you to prepare your breakfast and make sure you wake up on time: Aone, Osamu, Kita, Daichi, Sugawara, Tendou, Aran, Akaashi, Yachi, Iwaizumi.

5. They send you encouraging messages if they can't be there for you in person: Tendou, Bokuto, Asahi, Sugawara, Daichi, Yamaguchi, Hinata, Kenma, Yachi, Shimizu, Aone, Kita, Akaashi.

When in your country Father's Day was over three months ago and now you're confused cuz everyone is writing about Father's Day in the middle of June.

It's as if you all decided to celebrate Christmas in August without telling me,,, that's mean >:"(

TIME SKIP KITA DRABBLE

His gentle hands lightly touch the clear surface of the water, carefully dipping the freshly picked selvatic flowers.

Roses, daisies, dandelions and fragrant apple blossoms. Kita gently rinses them to weigh the tender petals preventing the hot summer breeze to blow them away, then he braids their stems making a graceful sweet-scented crown.

His honey-colored eyes seem golden in the warm glow of the sunset as they look far away searching for the familiar roof of your home. That's where you wait for him, cooking a delicious dinner for both of you.

And when Shinsuke finally comes back from the rice fields he smiles against your lips, happy to be with you after a long day. Then, he asks you to close your pretty eyes as he carefully lays on your hair the flowers crown he made just for you and he says "you look even prettier, my princess"

Skip-time Ushijima likes to wait for you when he has to brush his teeth at night. He watches your reflection on the mirror: your frame so much smaller than his, he finds it cute.

He doesn't speak, he just follows your movements and brushes his teeth in silence, waiting for you to finish.

After all, there's no need to talk. Just being with you is enough: his shoulder bumping into yours at times, your hair tickling his arms, your glossy lips almost pouting around your toothbrush... all small details that make him fall for you once again.
