Shorelane Developments Branding
Tumblr media
Shorelane Developments, a new real estate developer based in Woodbridge, required a logo and identity with a purpose and vision. For the logo, we designed a shield cast in bronze, representing strength, stability and luxury. The curves created in the upper left-hand and lower right-hand corners of the shield visually convey the essence of the letter ‘S’.

Muse Event Space Branding
Tumblr media
When Anthony from Muse came to us, he wanted to differentiate his event space from the one’s that already exist in Woodbridge. In order to design a logo and identity that stood out from its competitors, we had a look at what was currently out there and took into consideration where we want Muse to fit in the event space industry in Woodbridge. The end result is a premium, classy and modern identity designed on the basis of a timeless black and white colour scheme.

How to Improve eCommerce Website Performance for Better Conversions – Part 1
Tumblr media
There are plenty of elements of an e-commerce website that play key roles in its performance, and page speed is one of them. In fact, even the slightest improvements in site performance can translate into increased revenue. As such, it is well worth the time and effort to improve your e-commerce website performance, and here are a few steps to do just that.
1. Test Your Mobile Website Performance
To start off, you’ll want to see what your mobile performance is like. You can use PageSpeed Insights, a web-based tool via Google Labs, to give you customized recommendations about how to boost your performance on both mobile and desktop. You can also get suggestions to improve elements on your website that are blocking pages from loading quickly.
2. Test Your Desktop Website Performance
PageSpeed Insights will provide you with a desktop report as well that offers similar recommendations. Just make sure that you compare your website performance with your top competitors’ websites. Ideally, you want to strive for somewhere in the neighbourhood of 0.25 seconds.
3. Obtain a Grade
In terms of speed, your website will be graded anywhere from A to F from a tool called GTMetrix by merging data from Yslow and PageSpeed Insights. You can also get a performance report that can help you assess important issues that may require optimizing.
4. Score Your Website Performance
The last test you’ll want to do is use Pingdom.com to score your website performance from 0% to 100%. The tool has a “waterfall analysis” feature that can help you pinpoint any other significant issues and how important they are to optimization. This scoring tactic is highly valuable to revisit and test periodically. Once you know what went wrong and what requires fixing, you can begin eliminating things that repeatedly cause problems.

5. Use Fast Hosting
Not all web hosting services are created equal. Some are faster and more reliable than others and play an essential role in your site’s overall performance. This is of particular importance during high-traffic days. Look at your web hosting service’s projected traffic, memory limits, and peak user load. Contact us and inquire about our hosting services. Our private server has a scalable architecture that can manage traffic spikes from 100 to 10,000+ visitors seamlessly. Your website will load up to 27% faster than your average hosting company. Contact us to find out more!
6. Reduce and Compress Images
Images account for anywhere between 50% to 75% of the total weight of your web pages. The better-quality your images are, the bigger this number gets. Compression minimizes image size without sacrificing quality. For existing images, use Google PageSpeed to download optimized images. For new images, use ImageOptim, and for excess images, trim the number of images and watch out for empty image sources in your code.
7. “Minify” Your Site’s Code
Your site’s performance can be significantly slowed as a result of poorly coded HTML, CSS, and JavaScrip. To fix this problem easily, a process known as “minification” can be used that provides a list of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript resources to assist you.
Look out for the next blog in this series for the next 7 ways to boost your e-commerce site performance and increase sales.

Are You Ready For The GDPR Policy Changes?
Data privacy online is a huge deal these days, and after much debate and preparation, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was finally approved in April of 2016. Now the time has come for the GDPR policy changes to take effect, which is slated to happen on May 25th, 2018. By this date, any organization that is not in compliance with these changes in policy can be fined.
The GDPR replaces the Data Protection Directive and was established to make data privacy laws across European nations much more streamlined, as well as to protect the privacy of all data of EU citizens. But how does this apply to companies based on Canadian soil?
Tumblr media
Being Ready For GDPR
When the new GDPR becomes enforceable on May 25th, 2018, it could significantly impact how you manage personal data.
Not only does it apply to European organizations that process personal data, but also to entities outside Europe that target consumers in the EU. Even companies that are Canada- or US-based will be impacted. Basically, a company that has an online presence and markets their products or services over the internet will have to do some homework on the GDPR in order to be ready for it.
It doesn’t matter what industry you are in, it is important that you are ready with a plan or you could risk being legally accountable. Article 3 of the GDPR stipulates that if a company collects personal data or information regarding consumer behavior from someone in a European Nation, the company will be subject to the criteria of the GDPR. The law applies only if the consumers being targeted are in the EU when the data is collected.
Businesses should also understand that the GDPR would still apply even if a financial transaction never actually takes place. If you collect personal data as part of your marketing strategy and don’t end up with a sale, the data would still need to be protected by  GDPR.
Things can get a little murky when we are talking about people in EU countries who just happen to stumble upon your website. According to the new GDPR policy changes, your organization would have to purposely target data subjects in a European Nation. For instance, an Italian user who finds an English-language website on Google that is specifically written for North American consumers would not be covered under the GDPR.
That said, if the marketing is in the Italian language and there are references to EU customers, then your website would be considered to be targeting these consumers, in which case the GDPR would apply. And if your business accepts the Euro currency, the GDPR will be applicable.
The bottom line is, if you think your marketing efforts may be targeting consumers in the EU, you should be well advised to review your privacy policy to make sure you’re in compliance.
eCommerce Stores

The JT Money brand and design ideology steps outside the box, differentiating itself from other mortgage agents. The JT Money logo was constructed through the use of basic shapes. The edges and corners of the monogram in combination with a simple colour palette help to display a serious and premium tone of voice given the nature of the business. Through the website, we inserted this simplistic and geometric way of thinking to create a site that not only gives their clients reassurance through a professional look, but also is straight to the point.
