small heads up to the TMA artists on canon appearances!

(100% meant in a non-aggressive, non-critical, i’ve-just-relistened-to-the-entire-show-like-5-times-at-this-point-and-i-know-not-everyone-can-do-that-so-i’m-spreading-my-stupid-amount-of-lore-notes way; I’m all too aware of how easy it is to miss details and immediately form your own mental picture for an audio-only show. I mean, I get the gender of statement-givers wrong on first listen about half the time.

some of those characteristics like style or hair can of course vary in time anyway, but some of these are v important to me and there’s a few canon ethnicities that a lot of people have missed, so here we go! <3)

-ETA 24 Sept 2020 with a few more details, more characters, and the important PSA that I never intended for this post to shoot down people’s imaginations; the diversity of headcanons is really fun and, imo, a rich quality of audio media, and while it’s important to be aware of and not erase the canon non-white ethnicities we do have, I’ll be first to cheer on for non-white Simon or Agnes headcanons and chubby goth Annabelles ❤❤-

Jude Perry: made of wax (MAG089); squat, thickly muscled, close-cropped black hair, back tattoo of man screaming in the fires of Hell (MAG087) + (if that is her): short and Asian (MAG067)

Agnes Montague: looks about 26, pretty, tall, long straight auburn hair (MAG067), brown pigtails as a child (MAG008)

Trevor Herbert: filthy, matted beard, unblemished pink skin (MAG036)

Julia Montauk: tall and lean, close-cropped hair, deep scar over right eye <3 (MAG036), early thirties, wears hardwearing denim and old leather (MAG107)

Oliver Banks: Black and handsome <3 (MAG042)

Annabelle Cane: “dressed like a vintage clothing store exploded on her, and her short bleach-blonde hair stood out sharply against dark skin.” (MAG069) + (if that is her): young & rail-thin, now wears a hoodie to hide “stitches” on her head (MAG123)

Adelard Dekker: Black, iron-grey hair, very thin and wiry, not tall but towering presence, crisp white shirt with necktie and looks vaguely like a Jehovah’s Witness (MAG078)

Peter Lukas: white & very pale (MAG033), unclear whether he actually does any sailor work himself

Michael the Distortion: human form: “large man” and tall (about 6′6″), long blond (“straw”-coloured/“sandy”) hair in “loose ringlets”/“unruly curls”, round unthreatening face, heavy&sharp hands (possibly too many bones in them). monster form: distorted thin limp body, yaoi hands about the size of torso, and honestly go wild for the rest (MAG026, MAG047, MAG074)

Mike Crew: pale (probs white), pale eyes, short!!, very-thin and underfed (before turning => might have changed), and of course the scar (white, runs across his chest and up his neck). He wore a scarf as a student but seems to have stopped hiding the scar after turning (spotted with his shirt open in MAG075). Regularly described as youthful but he was indeed in his late 20s/early 30s at the time, died around his late 30s/early 40s and may or may have not been ageing normally. (MAG046, MAG075 + various)

Maxwell Rayner: milky white eyes, old, was black and African in 1864 (MAG098) but to be fair he has a slightly different appearance each other time we see him. MAG140 SPOILER: he/it inhabited Edmond Halley’s body in 1715, and probably until his historical death date of 1742.

Jan Kilbride: strikingly blue eyes (MAG097) (statement-giver, that’s… super gay…)

Gerard Keay: long & poorly-dyed black hair, very small eye tattoos on each joint and heart. wore a nice black suit at least once (MAG012), also he’s consistently mistaken to be about 10 years older than he really is according to MAG035, poor tired baby. (various)

Mary Keay: very old, painfully thin, clean-shaven head, every inch of skin tattooed over in sanskrit… but this description is post-mortem; the ‘tattoos’ are actually permanent marker and come from the ritual, and it’s possible that so does the shaved head. (MAG004) Died at either 84 (MAG023) or 64 (MAG062) years old.

Jane Prentiss: Long matted black hair, wearing a long red dress last time she was spotted (MAG006) but a threadbare grey overcoat when Martin runs into her (MAG022). Pale grey skin full of holes, worms are silver with a black tip (MAG022).

Simon Fairchild: “a tiny pink skeleton of a man”, appears to be pushing 100 but very very energetic. (MAG051) (FWIW his voice actor, Karim Kronfli, is a POC)

Mikaele Salesa: “a big Samoan guy with close-cropped hair” (MAG014), walks around in a tank top and open shirt in the cold (MAG056). Similarly described in MAG045 and MAG141 as a big man who can handle himself and looks like it.

Raymond Fielding: “quite young, white, maybe mid-twenties, clean-shaven with shaggy, chestnut brown hair. His coat was quite an old cut; it seemed to me he looked like something out of an old Polaroid.” (MAG008)

Martin: “not the smallest guy” (whatever that means) (MAG022), not hot (MAG052). May or may not be 6ft tall if that’s how you choose to interpret a line from MAG022.

Melanie: skinny (MAG131), phrased in a way that implies that Basira and Martin are not 

Tim: worm scars after MAG39, hot (MAG052)

Jon: worm scars after MAG39 which he does not pull off as well as Tim (MAG052), premature greying hair (MAG081) (+ I’m not gonna make a chronological list of all the injuries at this point… because other people have already done that :D). possibly looks like a grubby jesus by MAG134

Sasha: tall, long hair, glasses => Not!Sasha: none of that (MAG76)

(*like i said, i have a stupid amount of notes, so don’t hesitate to ask if i skipped a character you want to check on!)

OTOH I’m not aware of any physical descriptions of Elias (beyond “grinning little freak” and “only has two eyes” (allegedly)), Nikola (beyond “plastic”), Helen, Gertrude (beyond “elderly, grey bun”), Daisy (beyond “scary” and scar in back that she keeps hidden), Basira (her wearing a hijab is not canon (but it’s a super neat fanon and I love it)), or Georgie.

There’s also zero indication AFAIK regarding the ethnicities of the main cast, aside from that Martin may or may not speak Polish (MAG012)! (i. do think peter and Ray Fielding might be the only canonically white character?? maybe a couple more NPCs but that’s about it.)
