Cole MacGrath SFW Alphabet

Hello! This took me a long time, but here is my headcanons SFW alphabet for what I think Cole MacGrath would be like as a boyfriend.

Now, here's the SFW alphabet (with a little hint of spice.) Hope you brought some popcorn, it's a long read.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

When it comes to affection, Cole MacGrath is a very affectionate man, though how he shows it and where depends on his karmatic mindset. Good Cole is more open to the more traditional cutesy-wootsy PDAs. Forehead kisses, holding hands, being a playful tease, that kind of stuff. Evil Cole’s brand of PDA is less cute and wholesome. Don’t get me wrong, he’ll be more tender in public if he senses that’s what you need, but the way he does PDA is very flirty and meant to fluster. Arm around the shoulder, teasing whispers in the ear, grabbing your ass, things like that. He likes to see your face burn and listen to you stutter.

Behind closed doors, it’s a whole ‘nother animal.

It is away from prying eyes that Cole lowers his guard and lets himself shower you in affection. Kisses, cuddles, words of love and adoration, the man has a lot of love to give. Especially since he thought he’d never have someone to love after the loss of Trish. One of his love languages is physical touch, and he’s a believer in “actions speak louder than words.” All he wants to do is hold you close to him, to feel you, to know you are real and to have the peace of mind that while in his arms, you’re safe from danger. Good or Evil, Cole wants you to give you his love.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Befriending Cole in the beginning would be a bit tricky, he’s slow to trust thanks to the hell he went through back in Empire City. There’s also the fact that people might want to get close to him for the simple fact his has powers and nothing more, seeing him as a status symbol of sorts. Karma also plays a role too. Good Cole is a little more polite while Evil Cole… Not so much. Evil Cole would be the tougher nut to crack as he knows he has a lot of enemies and they could be desperate enough to send somebody to befriend him so they can get close and hurt him. You want to befriend him? Gotta do a couple of things,

Treat him like a person. This goes without saying, but a lot of people just see Cole for his powers and his reputation, be they starstruck fans or people stricken with fear. Even Kuo and Nix to an extent kinda view him like this, though not as bad. The only one who really sees the man behind the powers is Zeke. So try to not let the colored sparks blind you and see the man behind the storm. See him as Cole MacGrath. Just treat him like a normal person because at the end of the day, he still is human. Even a small effort to get to know him will mean a lot to him.

Get Zeke’s seal of approval. Speaking of Zeke, another thing you want to do is to win Zeke over. Don’t do it exclusively as Cole might see it as you using Zeke to get to him, but do try and get along with Zeke. Zeke knows Cole like the back of his hand and so his opinion will hold a bit of weight. If you're lucky, Zeke might even help you get your foot in the door and introduce you to Cole. So hang out with the two and see what happens.

As for how the Electric Man is as a best friend? You need not look further than the dynamic between him and Zeke. Playful, joking, mischievous and is just as happy laying back and relaxing with a couple of beers and a movie as he is running around on the roof or causing mayhem. Juuuust watch your back if Cole and Zeke decide to team up, the two are pranksters and together they are double trouble, though Cole will be more than happy to help you pull a prank on Zeke from time to time.

Basically, Cole’s a mischievous lil shit and you wouldn’t want him any other way.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

I hope you like cuddles, because this man, regardless of karma, is a fucking octopus. To say he’s touch-starved is an understatement. Any time it’s just you and him (maybe if Zeke’s around too), you two are gonna be hogging the couch in a hard-core cuddle session. It’s one of the few times you’ll get to see a genuine gentle smile from him as he holds you close or you hold him close. If you’re on him, your head is on his chest so you can hear his heartbeat and his breathing, if you lay him on your chest, he grips you close and listens to yours. It’s physical, irrefutable proof that you’re here, you’re real. That he isn’t in some dream that he’ll wake up from and see that he’s alone. Hearing your heart might even make him tear up a little as he feels the pain and the weight lift off his shoulders.

Cole prefers to be the big spoon, so he can hold you close, but he won’t object to being the little spoon from time to time.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

Now this is something that will differ GREATLY depending on karma, but the beginning is the same. At first, Cole is hesitant to settle down. After what happened with Trish, he’s got some scars that run deep and with so many enemies and so few friends, settling down is the last thing on his mind. Over time, things do change.

Good Cole is more likely to settle down, being the more responsible of the two. Once he feels that he has some form of normalcy back in his life, he feels he can try again to have the American dream of having a home, a family, the lot. It’s what he originally wanted in life after all.

Evil Cole is less interested in settling down, he’s a wild spirit and I hope you can keep up with that. Always on the move and always causing chaos, there is no white picket fence for him. He's a hellraiser through and through and he wants you to be riding shotgun with him. Though that doesn't mean he doesn't want some simple pleasures, just know that you two will probably be semi-nomadic.

Regardless of karma, domestic life is… Interesting. Cole's relationship with electronics is dicey to say the least, so expect to either A. be the one handling the electronics or B. visits from Zeke to either repair what Cole accidentally broke or modify it so that he can use it. You'll most likely be the one doing most of the cooking as electricity and stoves don't often mix, unless you have a gas stove, but don't think that Cole isn't gonna help out. He'll make sure things are prepped so all you have to do is cook it and if there's something that doesn't involve putting the house at risk of a fire, he's all over that. He's actually a decent cook! Cleaning is where he makes up for having slight issues with the cooking appliances, while he's not a neat freak, he will do the heavy load of cleaning responsibilities, even though he has to do it the analog way. Even in domestic life, there's never a dull moment with Cole MacGrath.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

Oof, one of two things must have happened to make Cole want to break up with you. Either A. You and he just aren't compatible or B. You screwed the pooch and betrayed him. Karma plays a big role here too.

If you two are simply incompatible, Good Cole will be polite about it, but he won't sugar-coat it either. He's straight to the point. Rip the bandage off so that both of you can get to healing. No point in dancing around an issue. Evil Cole is just as straight-forward, but a lot more blunt and brutal. You're not what he was wanting and that's that. Serious owch.

However… If you make the mistake of betraying Cole, there's no turning back. The Demon's heart will harden and turn cold and he'll leave you in the dust. Good Cole might tell you how much you hurt him, Evil Cole will simply spit out a venom filled "we're done" and walk away if he’s feeling merciful. Either way, Cole won't be able to even look at you. He has to walk away, because with one fell swoop, you just made him hate your guts and he's not sure he'll be able to control himself if he sees you again. Don't even try to win him back. Best to walk away.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

When it comes to commitment in general, the Electric Man's eyes are for you and only you. Once you have his heart, even the sexually deviant Evil Cole hungers only for you. He's very loyal and expects the same from you.

As for marriage? Things get a little… Dicey. The trauma Kessler left in his wake has left Cole a bit gun-shy about tying the knot, fearing that Kessler will somehow come back and kill you, just as he did Trish, but once his fears are called, the idea isn't as scary.

Good Cole would definitely be daydreaming about the day he puts a ring on your finger and says his "I do's." It puts the goofiest damn smile on his face and you know he's gonna give you the biggest kiss when you say yes. At night, he'll worship your body and present to you a day collar to wear to.

Evil Cole is less keen on marriage because in a world gone to hell, is there really a point to getting a dumb piece of paper or getting officiated by a priest? That doesn't mean he won't spouse you up in his own special way. He's the king of the world, so of course he needs a queen. Once he asks you to be his forever and you say yes, he'll walk up behind you, rub your hips and kiss your neck before you feel a weight around your neck and hear a click. His mark of commitment? A collar for you and a necklace for him that has the key.

Regardless of karma, regardless of the state of the world. To the Demon of Empire City, you are his as he is yours and there will be a symbol that both of you will wear that symbolizes that.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Gentleness is a bit of an interesting thing for Cole. Both versions of the Demon of Empire City can be quite gentle when it comes to you, it might be a struggle for his Evil self, but either way… You're precious to him and if you're hurting, he's there. Kissing you and holding you tenderly, whispering the words you need to hear to chase away the demons that plague you just as you chase away his. Evil Cole might have a little less tact than his good counterpart when it comes to his bluntness and words, a bit of a bull and china shop, but he always says what you need to hear. He loves you and he never wants you to doubt that.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Please. For the love of God, give this man a hug. He needs it. Good Cole is more likely to give you a hug in public, but both karmas love hugs.

Behind closed doors and out of sight from all but his closest friends. Hugs are never in short supply. He'll hug you as much as you let him and he loves every second. His hugs are strong and protective. His arms are pretty much like a weighted blanket. Your head on his chest, his lips kissing the top of your head, his arms either caging your arms and wrapped around your waist. He'll gently sway as you can feel the gentle buzz of his electricity humming in his arms as your body completes a circuit. A quiet sigh escapes his lungs.

If only he could stay like this forever.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

Just as Cole is slow to trust, he's slow to say the L-word as well. Even when he full well knows he's in love with you and he knows he loves you. It's because there's a deep scar in his heart. He's scared that even if he so much as whispers the L-word, something will happen and you'll be taken from him. As soon as word leaves his lips, he'll lose you, just as he lost Trish. The man's heart just can't bare the thought of losing someone again like that, but God does it eat him up. He wants to tell you he loves you sooner than he does, it's like a ticking time bomb in his chest. So he first shows you his love, you can feel it in his protective embraces, the tender kisses, the way he looks at you, he loves you so much and it's torture that he just can't say it because of that fear. Once he does say it, probably during an intimate moment and he just couldn't help but to blurt it out, it's like a dam has broken. The three words are whispered in your ear so tenderly and when he has to leave to tend to something or he ends a call, he makes sure to say "I love you" before leaving or ending a call, so should something happen to him, those are his last words to you.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

I'd say when it comes to the green eyed monster, Cole can get a little jealous. It's nothing too crazy, just the normal amounts. He's got no issues if you have male friends or pets. With pets he'll get "playful jealous" but it's all in good fun, it's just him being a playful little git. He will start to get a bit iffy if he starts to feel like another man is starting to get a little too close for his liking or if he feels like you're starting to pull away, but the responses to these are honest and frank conversations and what's bothering him. Communication is key in any relationship and he knows it. So he can get a tiny bit jealous, but it's no more than what is normal.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

This man LOVES kisses. Day or night, rain or shine,good or evil, in public or behind closed doors, Cole wants to give you so many kisses. They can range from gentle and sweet to deep and breath-stealing, but regardless of how, he will pour love into every single one.

On you, he loves to kiss your lips, your neck (sometimes paired with a nibble), your forehead and your chest, but let's be real here, he'll leave kisses anywhere on you.

Where he likes to be kissed? His lips, his neck, his arms, his hands (they get sore from time to time), his chest (specifically over his heart) and his scars. (I headcanon he has a lichtenberg scar over his heart he got from the blast.)

Just… Please, give this man kisses.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

This one's a bit of a sore topic for Cole. Ever since the revelation with learning that Kessler was his future self, learning about how he has gotten married to Trish and even had a little family with two beautiful daughters before the beast destroyed everything… How Kessler robbed him of all that by killing Trish and turning his life upside down… Children aren't something he wants to think about at this current moment, it's still very painful and he would want to simply enjoy his time with you and heal that part of his heart first before he even entertains the thought of children. Though I will say Good Cole will be the one who would possibly want children down the road, but he won't be bent out of shape if you don't. Evil Cole has no interest in having kids, the chaotic world he thrives in is no place for children so it's for the best.

As for how he is with children? It depends. If they're his kids, he'd be the best dad he can be, he's a playful father, but a stern one as well. If it's someone's kid who he's close to (like Zeke), he's pretty much the fun uncle who is always getting into mischief with his niblings. If they're a random kid, he'll help them if they need it (Yes, even Evil Cole, he's not completely heartless.) But overall, he doesn't mind them.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

This depends on if he's gotten to sleep last night or not. Seeing as he has a very high energy power and most likely has PTSD, Cole has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, so seeing him up before you wouldn’t be an uncommon sight, that and he tends to be an early-riser too. He’s usually seen doing his morning routine to get ready for the day. If you need to get up too, he’ll whisper in your ear to wake up and kiss and nibble you awake. If he got a proper sleep however… He’s not as keen to leave the bed. His arms will be wrapped around you, holding you close to him and just basking in the warmth. If you try to leave the bed, you’ll find the Demon’s arms tightening and a sleep groan of protest emanating from his chest. Needless to say, you’re not getting out of bed unless you wake him.

Once you and he are up and about, it’s a surprisingly sweet affair. Lots of hugs and kisses while you two prepare for the day, talk of plans, the occasional derailment of plans if Cole’s feeling amorous. It’s very “free for all” in the mornings unless there’s a pressing matter.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

Nights can vary, some nights, he’s down to relax and cuddle you while you two just sit and enjoy, some nights, he’s wanting to pamper you, maybe massage you if you let him, but there is no shortage of kisses and sweet words from his mouth and most likely, a slow and deep love-making session to follow. Maybe he’s all kinds of fired up, hands all over you, kisses on every part and him whispering some naughty things in your ear, you won’t be getting sleep those nights either.

Regardless of how you get into bed, sleeping can be a bit tricky. If you wore him out before or if it’s storming out, he’ll sleep like a baby, but some nights, sleep eludes him. He just can’t seem to get to sleep for whatever reason. Sometimes the sound of the Ray Sphere blast causes his ears to ring, sometimes the nightmares become too much and he spooks awake, other times, he just can’t sleep at all. He’ll apologize if he woke you with his restlessness. If you are in a deep sleep and not awoken by his fits of sleeplessness, he will hold you to his chest and cuddle you, never leaving your side unless to use the restroom or to get a drink of water. If you are having a nightmare, he will hold you tight and murmur words in your ear to help stave off the demons plaguing your mind, if you find yourself unable to sleep yourself, he’ll be happy just to hold you in comfortable silence.

He’s just happy to have someone to hold in the night.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

Cole has a lot of pain and trauma buried away in his heart and he views it as his burden to carry, so outside of the typical stuff, it will take a long time for him to open up about the deep wounds he holds, from his past to everything that happened in Empire City. He won’t say everything at once, but he will talk about his pain when he’s alone with you. Especially if you stay up with him during the nights he can’t sleep. It’s cathartic to him to have someone else to talk to about what happened outside of Zeke. Even if you can’t understand the pain he’s suffered, he’s happy that you’re giving him a listening ear and you try to understand. Good Cole will be more apt to pour his heart out soon than Evil Cole, but either way, sometimes it’s nice to be heard.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

This one varies WILDLY depending on Cole’s karmatic leaning. Overall, Cole’s a level-headed guy for the most part, but his fuse lengthens or shortens depending on the path he walks. Good Cole has the patience of a saint, calm and level-headed even when Kuo and Nix are firing off at each-other. Evil Cole has a shorter fuse, more apt to go off when he’s getting agitated, though he would make an effort to reign it in around you. But don’t think Good Cole is a doormat, far from it. If you push Good Cole too much, he will not back down and will argue too. Best thing to deal with an angry Cole is to give him space to cool down, let him calm himself and collect his thoughts before coming back and communicating the issue. There is one thing that Cole, good or evil, practices when it comes to arguments, it’s the only piece of good advice his dad ever gave him. “Never go to bed angry.” Before the day is done, Cole will make sure that you know that he loves you deeply and how precious you are to him, so you never go to bed with an aching heart.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Cole is a very intelligent and observant man, able to look at any situation and work out all consequences for specific actions. Needless to say, he remembers a lot and he uses that to his advantage. Favorite foods? Don’t be surprised to see him come up to your door with the meal in hand. Favorite color? Kept in the back of his mind so that he can get you little trinkets when the mood strikes him. Asshole Ex giving you issues and not taking the hint that you're not interested? Either said ex is gonna get a… “Talking to” or when you and he are out and about and he sees that ex? Cole will make sure he sees his arm around your hip and his lips kissing yours. Just to make sure the message sticks. Anything he notices makes your eyes light up with glee, he remembers. He especially remembers special dates like anniversaries and birthdays.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

So many moments worth remembering for Cole, but I think the one that would be burned into his mind would be when he finally says “I love you” to you for the first time. It’s truly a powerful moment for him, saying those three words. Words he thought he’d never say again outside of a quiet, mournful whisper for a love taken too soon. Words that now filled him with dread, cursed by Kessler who took Trish away. Those words already hold so much weight and power, but for the Electric Man, the weight felt crushing. All the moments before, there were so many times he wanted to tell you that. To say those three words in hopes of seeing your eyes light up with love, to hear you say it back, but whenever he tried, the words got caught in his throat, the fears welling up and stinging his tongue. Kessler’s curse mocking him.

Then one day, in one beautiful moment, the curse was broken.

Maybe it was in the throws of passion, heart connected to heart and the three words spilled from his mouth like a roar of thunder. Maybe it was a sweet moment, spoken under the lamplight after stealing your breath away with a kiss. Or maybe it was a quiet moment, where you and he were sitting on a roof, Cole holding you close to his body, keeping you warm with his heat and his jacket as you rested your head on his chest. The words slipping out in the softest of honeyed whispers.

With the words spoken, his heart would skip a beat. He finally said it, the fear of Kessler’s return clawing at his stomach, but when he saw your face when you heard those words, how it lit up, and when you said “I love you too.” The fear washed away and for the first time in a long time, the crushing weight of everything lifted. For the first time, it felt like everything was right in the world. That all was as it should be. The elation from that moment made tears prick at his eyes as he pulled you into the deepest kiss he could muster. Pouring every single ounce of love in his body into you. That moment will never leave him and he wants to sear it into your memory too. The day the Demon of Empire City said “I love you.” The first that will pave the path for many more.

Kessler’s Curse was broken, for now Cole wasn’t afraid. He won’t take you from him.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Hooooooooooooooh boy. You want protection? You got protection. Cole is a hurricane and you are safely nestled in the eye of the storm. Cole is a very protective boyfriend and with all the shit that’s happened to him back in Empire City. It’s understandable! Whenever you’re with him, you know you’re safe. Holding his arm, you can feel a soft hum of the electricity stored within. If the two of you travel in areas known to be quite dodgy, his eyes are on the lookout for any trouble, ready for anything. Scared of being jumped as you head to work, all you need to do is ask Cole and he’ll escort you, be it personally walking hand in hand or by following you up high on the rooftops, making sure you get to where you need to go safely. Fear bites at the back of his mind when he’s away from you, but he knows you’re an adult and can handle yourself if need be. He will let you know that if he’s away doing something and something goes awry, he’s a phone-call away and he’ll get to you as soon as he can. Are the woes mental in nature? All you need to do is to let him know what you need and he’ll do it. Evil Cole might struggle a little bit when it comes to the mental stuff, but dammit, no-one messes with his love, not even the demons that plague your mind. Both Good and Evil Cole are highly protective, but Evil Cole is more apt to go to more extreme measures sooner, he’s more possessive than Good Cole, but he has more enemies so it’s to be expected.

As for him needing protection? Physically, no. He doesn’t want you to try and protect him. He doesn’t want you getting hurt, especially with the dangers he has to deal with on the regular.To the Demon of Empire City, what he needs is a protector of the heart. Be there when he’s feeling low. Hold him close when his own demons torment him, chase them off with kisses and words of love, be by his side when he wakes in the morning. Be his asylum. His peace.

When Cole MacGrath gives you his scarred heart, protect it, as he will protect yours.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

Honestly, it varies. While he is a conduit, he’s still human. When it comes to big things like anniversaries, birthdays and milestones, he’s making it his mission to make your face light up with joy. It won’t be anything lavish or over the top, but Cole will make sure it’s special for you, be it a nice dinner out or a romantic night at home, the Electric Man will make you feel like royalty. Dates he plays by ear a little bit, seeing how both you and he are feeling. Feeling like a night downtown? Get dressed and let’s go. Outdoor bonfire? He’s grabbing the blankets and firewood! Feeling lazy? Prepare for a cuddlefest. Gifts can range from big or small, but they’re always with you in mind. Everyday tasks he’d help as best as he can, but as noted before, sometimes his powers can make certain things more hazard than help, but he really does try.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

He has a few, but I’ll name two.

Two words. BED. HOG. Cole is so used to sleeping in a sprawl somewhere that he kinda doesn’t know what personal space is when it comes to sleeping (when he can sleep). He’s like a twister in sleep too. Constantly tossing and turning unless you’ve worn him out before bedtime and are now in a cuddle. So be prepared before that.

He’s so used to sparking up his hands to relieve some of the pent up energy that it’s become a habit. So be ready for the accidental zap from him from time to time. Also, massage his hands, it helps alleviate the pins and needles in them.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Cole is no more concerned about his looks than any other man is. He keeps in shape thanks to all the parkour and fighting he does, he keeps himself clean the best he can and he washes his clothes whenever he can. If it’s a date night, he’ll gussy up extra. Gotta look good for you after all.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Dear god… Cole has lost so much. His home, his family, his girlfriend… Pretty much his whole life ripped apart and shattered. He was starting to pick up the pieces when you came into his life. You helped him start to rebuild, gave him hope that maybe, just maybe… There’s still some chance of having that happiness that Kessler stole from him. Having someone by his side to love and cherish. To maybe someday start a family with (if Good Cole) or rule the world with you by his side (if Evil Cole.) If he lost you? It would utterly destroy him. This won’t stop him from living his life, but most likely he won’t try his luck again when it comes to love.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

Have two!

I don’t know why, but I keep having this thought of Cole being a decent singer and casually playing guitar. Maybe he has this musical hobby because when he was young, the guitar gave him something in his life that was his to control fully. He could change anything about the song he wanted, the pitch, the tempo, the energy, it was also a great outlet for his emotions as well, probably help him a lot in his high-school days.

Remember his comment of “And I thought I was a pyro?” He wasn’t lying about that. It was something he and Zeke bonded over. Those to loved to set fire to things and whenever they could, they’d make big bonfires and boy is the 4th of July a grand ol’ time for the Demon of Empire City, especially now since he is both his own lighter and his own fireworks.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

Please, do not try to interrogate him. If you want to talk to him about something, just talk to him. Trying to pull things out of him will just remind him of how his parents would interrogate him when he was young and all it will do is fire up that rebellious streak he has.

Also, pleeeeease do not get into fights like Kuo and Nix do. He already has enough to deal with when it comes to those two, he doesn’t want to deal with it at home too.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

Let’s see… We covered being a sleep cuddler, a bedhog, a tornado and a slight insomniac…. Oh! Sometimes his hands wander around on you while he sleeps. Seriously though, SLEEP CUDDLER. Cole really needs cuddles.
