A tribute to Mike Burrows Legendary bicycle designer Mike Burrows passed away in August, and I wanted to pay tribute to one of my heroes with a concept rendering based on one of his iconic bikes from the 90s.  This is a hard-line reinterpretation of a bike that Burrows designed during his tenure at Giant for Abraham Olano’s hour record attempt. Olano never actually attempted the hour on that bike, but it was still one of my favorite bikes from the pre-Lugano Charter era. I know that my Burrows inspired design doesn’t do justice to his original curvy flowing frame, but I hope that it is viewed as a sincere tribute to one of my design heroes. RIP Mike. You can find the listing on OpenSea here. An unlockable 3D .glb file is included with each edition (10 total) of the NFT so that you can import the bike into virtual spaces like Spatial or Monaverse.

This rendering is the result of Spencer asking himself the question, "what would the 1992 Lotus 108 world hour track bike look like today?" From simple sketch, to marker render, to full CAD model, the bike is as complete as I can make it alone. I have called it the Lotus 103 and I feel that it stays true to the original idea behind the Lotus 108 bike. It features a simple fixed drivetrain, but much more integrated components. The fork and handlebars are all one piece. Everything has been designed with aerodynamics and speed in mind. Swipe through for all the detail shots. I wish this bike was real and if there is anyone out there that would like to collaborate on a carbon fiber bike frame, I would love to add my expertise.
