When I lived in North Carolina, I used to visit a gourmet specialty store in Chapel Hill called Southern Season from time to time. I stumbled upon it by chance in 2014 while driving toward Chapel Hill and noticed it from afar. Curious, I decided to check it out and was amazed by the wide variety of gourmet foods, beers, and wines I had never seen in regular stores before. My favorite part of the store was walking through the coffee section, where I’d pass by glass containers full with coffee beans. The warm and welcoming aroma of the coffee beans would greet me as I ventured deeper into the store. I looked forward to trying their wares when I had the time (and money! This place wasn't exactly cheap!) since getting to Chapel Hill wasn't a short drive! My favorite time to visit was during the autumn, when the store was beautifully decorated. Around November and December, they would set up several Christmas trees with a specific theme. Since most of their products were seasonal, I was always excited to visit them during that period.

Southern Season played a pivotal role in shaping my food and drink preferences over the years. Although I’m not a food connoisseur, so don’t take my opinions too seriously, I’ve become much more open to trying out a wide variety of cuisines. So thanks, Southern Season for helping me become who I am!

Sadly, in late 2019, Southern Season announced that they would shut down for good in early 2020, leaving me heartbroken and devastated. While it may seem silly to mourn the loss of a store, it had become a bit of a permanent fixture in my life over the years. I visited Southern Season while they hadn't made preparations to close down yet in late 2019, cherishing the remaining time before they began emptying the store. In January 2020, I made my final visit to Southern Season to bid it farewell. Since their closure, I haven’t been to Chapel Hill since.
