Lunchtime!
Finally, all the homework is done. Sophie sighs in relief. Now I can watch the next tape. Sophie takes the tape and sticks it into the VCR. It begins to play.
“Hi friends, I’m Amanda.” Amanda beams.
“And I’m Wooly…” Wooly smiles. They are standing in the kitchen.
“And today we’re going to make lunch together for our picnic!” Amanda announces. “We had a picnic with Riley once! It was fun.” Amanda grins.
“A… picnic…” Wooly says quietly.
“Hm? What was that?” Amanda wonders, Wooly doesn’t respond, he looks deep in thought. “Okay anyway… First we need to make some sandwiches! What’s your favorite kind of sandwich?” Sophie thinks for a moment. BLT. she answers “Really? Oh my gosh me too! Guess what? That’s what we’re going to be making today!” Amanda cheers.
“I… think I’ll have a PB and J…” Wooly mumbles.
“What? But you have that every day! And we went out of our way to grow the vegetables and buy the bacon!” Amanda protests.
“I don’t think I want bacon…”
“You could just have lettuce and tomato.” Amanda suggests. Wooly still looks unsure. “You know, you should never be afraid to try new things!”
“I want a PB and J.” Wooly pouts. Amanda smiles.
“Okay Wooly, you can have your PB and J.” she chuckles. “Let’s get our ingredients first! We’ll need bread, lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, and… peanut butter and jelly.” She grabs a step stool and climbs up on the counter. “Can you tell me where the bread is?” she asks. Sophie clicks on it. “Alright, then the peanut butter?” Sophie clicks on that too. “Great!” Amanda stumbles a little as she climbs down. Wooly’s face folds in worry, and he immediately runs over to help her. “I’m okay Wooly, just lost my footing a little. How about you have a turn?” she suggests.
“Can you tell me where the fridge is?” Sophie clicks on it. “Nice! We need bacon and peach jelly. Do you see them?” Sophie clicks on them. “Thanks!” He puts them on the counter and waits patiently, looking toward Amanda.
“Wooly… we still need lettuce and tomatoes.” Amanda reminds him.
“Oh right… those should be…” he walks back to the fridge. Amanda transports them to the garden. “Oh right! I forgot! We gotta pick some more!” Sophie clicks on the lettuce and tomatoes. Amanda and Wooly pick some and put them into a bowl. Then the tape freezes and glitches back into the kitchen. “Now it’s time to make sandwiches!”
“Um wait a second Wooly, we gotta rinse off the vegetables first.” Amanda reminds him.
“Right, right.” Wooly chuckles nervously. Amanda looks at him with concern. She waits a moment. As if expecting him to say something more.
“It’s important to rinse off your vegetables before eating them, and check them for any bugs! You wouldn’t want to find a worm in your sandwich, gross!” Amanda says, “Where do we rinse off our vegetables?” Sophie clicks on the sink. She watches Amanda rinse them off. “Alright! Now it’s time to make sandwiches!” Amanda separates the bread. Wooly just stares at it. “Wooly, is something wrong?”
“Oh um… I’m… fine.”
“Really? Are you sure? We can take a break if-” “No Amanda, I’m fine. Really!”
“Okay…” Amanda still looks worried, “Um…” Amanda looks unsure as to what to do. “Let’s make sandwiches!” the tape glitches and the sandwiches are made.
“Okay, we got the sandwiches, a blanket, some juice boxes, now all we need is a special treat!” Amanda explains.
“Wait Amanda… did you fast-forward the tape?” Wooly asks.
“What? No, I had all this prepared before the episode, remember?” Amanda answers.
“Amanda you didn’t have to do that.”
“Wooly I don’t know what you’re talking about. I prepared them all this morning, remember? Oh right, you were asleep.” Amanda recalls. Wooly looks, kinda mad. “If you think I did it for you because I know you’re tired, I didn’t okay? Now let’s get some cooki- you know what, forget cookies. I want cupcakes. Let’s grab some of those instead!”
“Amanda…”
“Alright, we got the cupcakes!” the tape glitches. “Now let’s pack our lunch!” Amanda starts putting everything in the picnic basket. “Yay! We’re done, and look, it’s lunchtime! Let’s go have our picnic!” the tape glitches to the park where they had a picnic before.
“Yay! It’s such a nice day out! It’s a perfect day for a picnic!” Amanda beams.
“Amanda, those clouds are looking pretty dark.” Wooly points out. “And it’s pretty windy…” Amanda gives him a little glare.
“Let’s set up our picnic!” she smiles. “First we need to lay out the blanket!” Sophie clicks on the blanket. Amanda tries to lay it out but the wind makes this very difficult. Wooly, a little help here?”
“Right.” They both try to lay the blanket down, but a gust of wind blows it out of their hands.
“Wa-wait! Wait! Wait!” Amanda runs after it but it flies far away. “My picnic blanket…” she says sadly. “Mmm… Well whatever, we’ll sit in the grass.”
“But I don’t like sitting in the grass…” Wooly protests.
“We’re sitting in. The. Grass.” Amanda demands. Wooly nods. “Ah! Sorry! I just… got a little mad about the blanket and… aaaah… I just wanted this picnic to go well!” she groans.
“It’s okay…”
“No, I shouldn't have shouted at you like that.” Amanda sighs, “anyway… let’s just eat and get out of here before it rains.” She hands Wooly his sandwich and takes out her own. “Mmmm! These are so good! How’s yours Wooly?”
“It’s good…” he mumbles, but he hasn’t even taken a bite.
“Are you sure you’re okay Wooly, you’ve been acting kind of… off… today.”
“No no… it’s fine… I’m…” tears start dripping down his cheeks. “Oh my… heh heh… I guess my allergies are really bad today…” he tries to wipe them away. Amanda comes over and gives him a big hug.
“Hey… you’re allowed to not be okay.” Amanda tells him. Wooly responds by hugging her really tight. Really really tight. “Ow ow ow… but you are not allowed to break my back.”
“Amanda… remember our last picnic?”
“Yeah I- Oh.” Amanda suddenly realizes their last picnic was not so pleasant.
“Sometimes… I feel myself rotting too…” he says quietly. “Amanda… I know I ask this all the time… but are we really getting out of here? Are we really going to be able to go to the real world and do… I don’t know… fun stuff together?”
“Maybe not Wooly… maybe not…” Amanda sighs, gently petting the fluff on his head, “that’s why I decided… that we might as well have some fun adventures here… make here as comfortable as possible.”
“Okay…” he sniffles.
“So Wooly? How are we going to make this place as fun and comfortable as possible, for both of us?” Amanda asks. Wooly thinks about it for a bit. He takes a bite of his sandwich.
“This really is good.” he says, “Um… I… don’t want to eat meat anymore… it kind of freaks me out.”
“That’s fine.”
“And maybe you could stop commenting about my weight?”
“Urk! Have I? Okay… I’ll keep that in mind…” “And… could we lower the cabinets so we can reach them?”
“Alright.”
“And I don’t like it when you do dangerous stuff… and I’d rather not go out at night.”
“Aww… but what about stargazing?” Amanda asks.
“That’s fine… and I don’t like it when you talk about death and rotting and stuff…”
“Mmm… okay. Got it.” “And… could we have warm milk and cookies before bed.”
“Like… every night? That’s a lot of milk and cookies!” Amanda laughs. Wooly looks sad. “Yeah we can do that…”
“What about you?”
“Me? Hmm… Well, I don’t like being interrupted. I don’t like it when things go wrong. I wanna try and see just how much we can do in this imaginary world. I don’t wanna go to the library anymore… and I don’t want to talk about Hameln or whether or not we can leave. What happens will happen and whatever happens I’ll be right here by your side, okay?”
“You’re like a big sister Amanda.” Wooly smiles.
“Is that right?” Amanda chuckles forcefully. She pauses for a moment, “Here’s something else that I want to… and I’m not sure how to say this… because I don’t want you to take it the wrong way but… every now and then… could I have some alone time?”
“What do you mean?”
“Like… an episode where I just do an activity on my own…”
“Huh? Why? Di-Did I do something wrong?”
“No, you’re fine. I just want a little me-time sometimes.  Sometimes… I wanna do something by myself with Riley. Or… like you talking to Sophie with the cookies…”
“How did you-” “I couldn’t sleep either… I guess we kind of had a similar idea but… I didn’t want to interrupt.”
“Oh… so you heard all that…” Wooly looks a bit… distraught.
“Not all of it… ah! I didn’t mean to eavesdrop or anything… it was an accident!” Amanda frantically explains, “Look, the point is… I’m glad we’re friends again… it’s just… this time I want us to really be able to depend on each other… but not be dependent on each other.” Wooly looks hurt. Amanda sighs, “I knew this was a bad time…”
“No no, it’s fiiiine.” Wooly says, sounding annoyed, “I totally get it.”
“I don’t think you do.”
“You’re just sick of me aren’t you?” Wooly laughs, pushing Amanda away.
“See you don’t get it at all!”
“What do I not get?” Wooly snaps.
“I’m not sick of you! I want to be your friend, I want to be a better friend! I’m trying really hard to respect your boundaries and make things better for you Wooly, all I’m asking is that you do the same.”
“But I don’t like being alone…”
“Why not?”
“Because when I’m alone I start thinking a lot of… dark thoughts… sad stuff…”
“Well, what do you do when you're alone?”
“Um… nothing?”
“Well that’s your issue, you gotta do something. Get a hobby.”
“Like…”
“Whatever you want. Personally I like to draw.”
“But I’m not good at drawing.” Wooly pouts.
“Then find something else you like.” Amanda shrugs, “How’s this? If you find something you really like, we can do it together sometime!”
“Well okay…” he turns to Sophie, “What do you like to do?” Amanda facepalms. Reading. Sophie types. Wooly makes a very disinterested face.
“See, you got plenty of time to figure it out next time I want some me-time! Got it?”
“I guess so…”
“Don’t worry so much Wooly!” Amanda says, this seems to bother him a little, “I’m not saying we’re NEVER going to hang out. I just want a little bit of me-time, okay?”
“Okay…” Wooly sighs. Just then, the picnic blanket blows by. “Oh, I’ll get it!” Wooly shouts, running after it. He jumps up and grabs it, falling onto the ground.
“Wooly, are you okay?” Amanda asks, running over.
“Look, I caught it!” Wooly beams, seeming super proud of himself. Amanda laughs and helps him up.
“Yeah, you did!”
“Now we can sit on it!” Wooly points out, “Can you help us?” Sophie clicks on the blanket and they lay it out.
“Now let’s have some cupcakes!” Amanda beams. She goes back and grabs them. “For you Wooly.”
“Why thank you.” he giggles.
“So, are you feeling a bit better now?”
“I guess so…” Wooly replies.
“Good. Now let’s enjoy this dang picnic!” Amanda announces, digging into her cupcake. “Mmm so good!” she glances over at Wooly and laughs, “Wooly, you got a bit of frosting on your nose!”
“Oh really? Ha! Take that!” he snickers, sticking a blob of frosting on Amanda’s nose. They both laugh.
“See, we can have fun here too.” Amanda says.
“Ye-yeah!” he replies, still looking a bit unsure.
“Enjoy your picnic!” Amanda calls out to Sophie, and the tape ends. She turns around and sees a picnic basket. Inside are some toy cupcakes… and the next tape. Aww… I was enjoying those puzzles. Sophie thinks to herself. It looks like things are working out but… I still sense a storm on the horizon. Just then, Riley comes inside.
“Oh hey, did you get the tapes?”
“Yeah… only four of them though.”
“I got some toy cupcakes, and a tape from Amanda without even needing to do a puzzle!”
“She just gave it to you? Like a freebie? No way! How many tapes have you watched with her?”
“Only like… four…” Sophie smirks. Riley looks so frustrated and betrayed it makes Sophie laugh. “Maybe she wouldn’t mess with you if you didn’t mess with her so much!”
“Well fine!” Riley pouts, “If that’s the way it is I guess you’ll be the only one watching the tapes from now on! They shouldn’t mind since they like you sooooo much!” Now Sophie is absolutely cracking up.
“No no, don’t do that! Amanda was just talking about wanting to spend time with you! Like… just you!” Sophie explains. Riley now seems touched. “She really misses you a ton.”
“And Wooly?”
“He seems… happy that you’re gone.”
“That little-” Riley grumbles, “Oh right, about those demons I mentioned, don’t get Amanda and Wooly too pissed off at you or they will attack you!”
“Um… excuse me?!” Sophie gasps, immediately catching Riley in a noogie, “Listen here you! I don’t mind you getting me mixed up in this weird, creepy, cult business, but demons? Well I guess they are a demonic cult… but huh? You didn’t think to tell me this BEFORE?”
“I told you the demons were attached to the tapes! I wasn’t really in the best headspace at that point so it kinda slipped my mind.”
“So those cuts and scrapes on your arms?”
“The other demon saved my life. But uh yeah it’s kinda my fault… shouldn’t have pushed Wooly’s buttons like that…”
“That poor kid constantly looks one wrong word away from a mental breakdown.” Sophie observed.
“So has Amanda absolutely lost it on you yet?”
“She gave me some hard puzzles for a bit… but I think I finally got on her good side.” Sophie explains.
“Scary.”
“Huh?”
“You are scary good with kids Sophie. I don’t know how you do it.”
“Well I am studying to become a daycare provider.”
“Girl you could go to much higher places-”
“Maybe…” Sophie sighs, “One day I might want to be a child psychologist… but I want to have enough money saved to go to a better school for that.”
“I told you, I have some inheritance from Aunt Kate-”
“That you should use for yourself. It’s fine.”
“I’m sorry Sophie… I shouldn’t have-”
“Nuh-uh. Shut up. You are not going to apologize for getting me involved. I am happy to be involved. I want to be involved. Now do you want to watch the next tape with me?” Sophie smiles, gently rocking the tape in her hand. Riley kisses her on the forehead.
“Of course I do.”
Authors Note: Kay I lied. Ended up having some free time today and I really wanted to write. So here's the next chapter. :) Riley and Sophie's conversation was really funny to write. Next fic is completely fluff. I am committing myself to one completely fluff fic for you guys (This will be very hard for me, lol). But only cuz I want Amanda and Wooly to have some fun!

:33 < ok so this one is def my favorite fantape so far
Bedtime snacks!
Okay… I had some time and Amanda seemed upset when I did my homework before watching the next tape but… wow. That… that was hard. I don’t remember Riley saying the puzzles were this hard. Okay… maybe I felt they were exaggerating because I know they hate puzzles… but I love puzzles! So like… it shouldn’t be this hard right? Sophie thinks. But now she finally has it. The next tape, titled Bedtime Snacks!
I’m going to need a bedtime snack after this… Sophie thinks to herself. Looking at the time. She puts the next tape into the VCR and it starts to play. The tape begins with Wooly laying in bed, staring at the ceiling. He eventually notices Sophie.
“Oh, hi there friend! Are there ever times where you feel like you just can’t sleep?” he asks. Sophie types in yes. “Yeah… heh heh… it happens all the time. It’s like your thoughts are just whirling around in your head and they just won’t stop! Well… sometimes it’s not even that. Sometimes I just… wait and wait and wait… and I just don’t fall asleep. It’s kind of annoying honestly.”
Honestly I just stay up really late on my phone or doing assignments and suddenly it’s morning. We’re not the same. Sophie thinks.
“What do you do when you can’t sleep?” he asks, but no text box appears so Sophie stays quiet. Wooly stands there awkwardly. “Um… good for you? I think? Um anyway, I think a nice bedtime snack can sometimes be good. Like some milk and cookies! But don’t tell Amanda okay? If she finds out we had cookies without her she’ll be really upset.”
“Maybe you could invite her?” Sophie suggests. Wait, I'm not supposed to talk!
“Well she’s sleeping, and I think she’d be more upset if I woke her up so… hmm… let’s just keep this between us okay?” Sophie types in yes. Wooly smiles. “Don’t go telling Amanda behind my back, okay?” Okay Sophie types. “Ooookay then. Let’s go to the kitchen!” the tape glitches to the kitchen. Wooly is quiet for a bit, as if contemplating something.
“Milk is so much better at night when it’s warm…” he whispers. “But we don’t have a microwave… so I guess it’ll have to be cold.” Wooly pouts. Sophie clicks on the stove. “I… I’m confused, what do you want me to do?” she clicks it again. “You can talk, you know, I won’t get mad.”
“You can heat up the milk in a saucepan on the stovetop.” she explains. Wooly’s eyes light up with excitement. Then he stops.
“But… we really shouldn’t be using the stove without an adult…” he mumbles. His face contorts a bit in frustration, “but it’s been forever since I’ve gotten to make myself a warm cup of milk…”
He sounds like he’s arguing with himself Sophie thinks.
“Mmm… weeeeelll. You’re an adult right? So it should be fine! Just… don’t tell Amanda okay?”
This really isn’t going to help Amanda trust me… but okay… Sophie thinks. “Do you need any help?”
“Yeah… maybe… I’ve only ever done this in a microwave…” Wooly answers.
“You’ve done this before?”
“Yeah I used to have warm milk with my little sister every night… then I’d read her a story… We had this whole routine. She couldn’t fall asleep without it… honestly neither could I… mmmm….” he pauses, “being able to remember her again after so long is weird… but I think I’m starting to see why Amanda wanted to remember her dad and Kate so much…” he stays quiet for a moment, as if reminiscing. Sophie gives him a moment. “So… what do we do?” he asks.
“Well, like I said, you heat up the milk in a saucepan over the stovetop on low heat…”
“Great! Can you help me find the saucepan? Is it under the sink, in the fridge, or in the stove?” Sophie clicks under the sink. “That’s… right.” Wooly says, a little surprised by this. He goes under the sink and gets the saucepan. “Now… Could you tell me where the milk is?” Sophie clicks on the fridge. Wooly smiles. “Hehe, great job. Now could you tell me where the measuring cup is?” Sophie clicks on the cupboard. “Wow, right again! You’re a master at this!”
Honestly I have no idea where any of your stuff is. I'm just picking what I think is the most logical answer. Sophie thinks to herself.
“Can I tell you a secret? Honestly climbing and grabbing stuff from high places always makes me super nervous… could you grab it for me?” he asks. Sophie clicks and drags the measuring cup down onto the counter. “Awww thanks! You’re so nice! Alright. We need one cup of milk. Can you help me pour it?” Wooly starts pouring the milk in and Sophie clicks on it once it reaches one cup. “Perfect!” Then Wooly pours the milk into the saucepan. “You know what? I like you way better than Riley. Usually Riley always teases us and keeps picking the wrong answers on purpose! But you’re actually helpful!”
Riley… Sophie thinks to herself. “Yeah Riley tends to tease people they care about. It’s kind of their way of showing love.” Sophie laughs.
“Well I find it really annoying!” Wooly pouts, “Ah! But don’t tell them that, okay? Um… what do I do next?”
“You have to simmer it on low heat until it reaches the desired temperature.” Sophie answers. Wooly pauses for a moment, as if considering something.
“Hey, why don’t you make some warm milk with me?” he suggests. Sophie looks confused. “Turn around,” he whispers. She turns around and realizes there’s a toy mini stove and plastic saucepan behind her. Toys from when she was growing up.
That’s right… After mom died, dad started using the shelter like it was an attic or something… next to it is a plastic saucepan. She puts the mini-stove dial on low heat and puts the saucepan on it. “Should I… get some milk?”
“NO! Heh heh… just make believe, okay? Trust me…” Wooly whispers nervously. Sophie comes back to the tv and sits down. “While I watch the milk, can you get the cookies from the cupboard for me?” Sophie clicks and drags the cookies down on the counter. Wooly glances over his shoulder and sees them. “Ah! The milk is done! Which color cup should I use?” Sophie picks blue. “Ah… blue is…” the tape glitches, “nice…”
Did I make a mistake? Sophie wonders. Wooly pours the milk into the blue cup. He dips the cookie into the milk and takes a bite. Then he takes a big sip of milk.
“Aaaaaaaaah… this is the LIFE! Honestly… sometimes I can’t get why Amanda wants to leave SO badly! Just give me warm milk and some bubble baths and I might never want to leave.” he sighs.
“Well you can get plenty of those in the real world too.” Sophie laughs.
“That’s true… hmm…” Wooly says thoughtfully, as if daydreaming about all the other things he could do, “Thanks for spending time with me Sophie… I don’t like being alone at night.”
“No problem Wooly.” she replies.
“Really? It’s not a burden?”
“Not at all.” she smiles. He seems really happy to hear this.
“This is nice. I haven’t gotten to do this since… well… since before my sister… well… Riley probably already told you…”
“Yeah…”
“I know this is going to sound really weird… but it feels nice to have someone to talk to. I mean there’s Amanda… but up until recently we weren’t even friends anymore… and even now it still feels… awkward. And Riley… eeeeeeeeh… I don’t hate them but… I don’t know… you’re different. I feel comfortable around you… you feel safe…”
“Aww Wooly I’m flattered.” “Hey um… Sophie… Can I talk to you about something? Can I… vent a bit?”
“Sure Wooly.” Oh?
“This is going to sound awful but… this place… was the first place I ever felt safe.” Wooly confesses. “I mean, it was because I didn’t have my memories but still… It was a safe place. And Amanda… was the first person I ever felt like I could lean on. She was safe too. I mean… before that all I had was my little sister and… she needed me to be strong so…I was always either taking care of someone else or on my own. And for once… I felt like I had a friend. Someone I could lean on… even just a little…”
“I see…” Sophie responds.
“And then… she ruined it… they all ruined it. Making us remember that this world wasn’t real and we were. And sometimes… I really hate them for it. They were trying to do what was best for us but… they didn’t think any of it through… why screw everything up if you can’t fix it?” Wooly grumbles, then he stops, “Oh, I’m sorry. I know they were just trying to help… and I know you mom died trying to help us… wow that was really horrible of me right? You must hate me now.”
“I don’t hate you.” Sophie says, “To tell you the truth I… also resent my mom a bit.”
“Huh?”
“She was willing to do anything to save you guys… even if it killed her… she didn’t mind dying for this but… what the people she left behind. Her family. Me. Honestly I resented Hameln and… you guys too a little for the longest time. Why do some random kids in a TV show matter more?”
“I get it… I am mad at my mom too… I mean…  she abandoned us… she was never there… she always just left when things hurt too much… but we needed her… if she had only just been around… maybe she wouldn’t have kil-… maybe things would be different.” Wooly sighs. “Sophie?”
“Yes?”
“Can I ask a question?”
“Go ahead.”
“What do you do when you feel… too many feelings? Too strongly? All at once?” Wooly asks.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean… I feel happy. Amanda and I are friends again. We might actually be able to escape… things might get better but… I also feel… sad… about my memories… and betrayed by what Amanda and Riley did… and… and…” Wooly stops, “Ever since I started really getting my memories back… I don’t know what it is… but sometimes- all the time? I just feel this… something bubbling up inside…  like… I don’t want to blame anybody but…” Wooly glares at his cup of milk. “Then there’s Hameln… and all the things they did and Am-” he stops, the look on his face suggests that he felt like he was just about to say something horrible. “Amanda.” he says it very slowly and carefully, like it’s some cursed word that should never ever be spoken. “I can’t believe I put those two in the same sentence…” he mutters. Wooly grips his cup tightly, watching little ripples form in the milk. “I thought once I made amends with her… my safe space would come back but… after all the things she did… it’s like… I can’t trust her anymore. I don’t want to be mad at my best friend… but… UGH! I hate it! I hate it so much! I shouldn’t be thinking like this!”
“It’s totally normal to be upset when someone does something bad to you… sometimes it takes time to forgive them… and that’s okay…”
“But… being angry about it won’t fix anything.”
“It’s still okay to be mad…  I mean… it’s not healthy to hold onto that anger-”
“I’m trying to let it go… really…”
“But it’s not healthy to hold it all in.” Sophie says, Wooly looks conflicted. “Hey… you okay?”
“Honestly? Honestly? No.” Wooly chuckles sadly, burying his face into his hands, his voice cracking a bit. “I hate this… I hate it here… I hate everything. I’m scared to leave and yet… I don’t want to stay…”
“That is… complicated.” These kids need a therapist… Sophie thinks.
“I… feel like she brings out the worst in me… like I want to just explode… and she makes me wanna do it. Even if just for a minute… to just scream at the world till my lungs burst… She asks me if I’m mad… I am mad… I’m mad at… everything. At Amanda, at Hameln, at my parents, at all the stupid adults who never listened and never cared, at all the adults who said they were going to help but only made things worse, at Riley, at… at… but I can’t… I can’t do it… I just can’t live like that…” Wooly stops, “I’m jealous… Amanda can just let it all out… I don’t know how she does that… She’s just as trapped as me… and yet she always seems so free…”
“Maybe you should talk to her about this?” Sophie suggests.
“No, I’m fine. Everything’s fine. I just needed to vent a bit. That’s it. That’s all, really.”
“Are you sure?” Sophie asks, Wooly pauses.
“Sophie? Do you really think we can get out of here?”
“Um…”
“Sometimes I don’t even know if I want to… I just… hate uncertainty so much.”
“Me too…”
“Sometimes… I wish… that when Amanda killed me… I had just stayed gone…” Wooly mumbles, “At least that way… I wouldn’t have to feel anything again. That way I wouldn’t have to remember… all of this… why did she make me remember? Why did I have to? I just… I…”
“Wooly…” “I’m sorry. That got really dark, huh? Guess I’m no good at this kids show stuff after all… heh heh… but um… thanks for listening, really. It means a lot.” Wooly smiles, “I think… I can… yawn go to… sleep now… could you… tuck me in?”
“Sure.” Sophie says softly. They glitch to Wooly’s room and she clicks on the blankets. Wooly lets out one last big yawn and says… “Goodnight.” Sophie expects the tape to end but the tape glitches to Amanda in the kitchen.
“You had milk and cookies without me?” Amanda mumbles, sounding hurt.
“I’m sorry, it was Wooly’s idea.”
“I know…”
“Oh.”
“I knew it… he is mad…” Amanda sighs.
“I…”
“He doesn’t talk to me about anything anymore…” Amanda cries.
“I’m sorry…?” Sophie wasn’t sure what to say.
“No… thanks for listening to him… I guess you aren’t so bad…” Amanda says. “I just… I…”
“You should talk. Both of you…”
“Mmm…” Amanda looks away.
“I mean it.”
“I’ve tried but…”
“Try again. Keep trying. Don’t give up.” Sophie says encouragingly. Amanda smiles.
“Thanks Sophie.” the tape ends and falls out of the VCR. She looks behind her at the toy mini-stove, now in the saucepan is a new tape titled: Lunchtime.
Ah… so that’s why he said no milk.
Author's note: Alright. That's the last fic for a while. Hope you enjoyed a little fluff there. As I wrote this fic, I found myself slowly creating this interesting dynamic. Amanda really only fully trusts Riley, and Wooly only fully trusts Sophie. Maybe they can use that to their advantage? But wow... Wooly's feeling... A LOT lately...
Also, trying out some new formatting with the thoughts. Do you like it or should I go back to the old method?
Also... yeah I deleted this post and rewrote the Wooly vents scene. Heh heh...

In the garden.
The first puzzle was really hard. Riley says that usually the answer is hidden somewhere within the episode, but Amanda wouldn’t let her replay it to check. Good thing I take notes. Sophie thought to herself. She looks through her notes. She looks around the room. There are several posters on the walls and memorabilia from all of Hameln’s different productions, with notes around them of different actors and their family members that went missing during or after production, among other odd notes about the show. Her mother told her once they realized Hameln was associated with the cult they started doing a deep dive on all their creative properties outside of Amanda. The results of this research are posted all around in sticky notes and long stapled printouts taped around the room. Like a controlled chaotic masterpiece. That’s mom for you. Sophie thought with a smile. Of course, most of the merch and stuff was from Amanda the Adventurer. Which… didn’t make things too easy. Sophie figured Amanda was going to hide it somewhere within the merch. Finally, she notices a specific poster. “Amanda the Adventurer! New Show! Starring Rebecca Colton and William Scott. Soon airing on Hameln Jr!” The poster showed Amanda and Wooly, sitting on Apples and Peaches respectively. Could this be it? Sophie recognized this poster. It was a collectors edition poster mimicking the show’s initial announcement ad. It was crazy popular and really hard for her mother to get a copy. Sophie feels the poster and realizes there’s a weird shape behind it. She gently peels back the tape on the poster revealing a safe and two tapes. One being an Amanda episode titled: In The Garden. The other being a bright cyan colored tape. Never understood why they chose to record all their evidence against Hameln on colored tapes. Sophie chose to watch the cyan tape first. It appeared rather unassuming, simply being a collection of Amanda the Adventurer commercials. There’s got to be more here… something I’m missing. Sophie thinks to herself. Oh well… I don’t have much free time. I better watch the next tape now. Sophie puts the tape in the machine.
“Hi friends, I’m Amanda!” Amanda beams.
“And I’m Wooly!”
“Gee it took you a while to find that tape huh? I hid it well, didn't I?”
“Well… it only took me half an hour to find it.”
“HUH?”
“I had like 5 assignments due today… I had to do the dishes… and the laundry… then I watched this other tape first… so yeah… not too hard.”
“Grrrrrrrrrr…” Amanda grumbled.
“To-today we’re planting seeds to grow in our garden!” Wooly announces, changing the subject.
“That’s right Wooly! Say, what kinds of plants do you like to grow?” Cacti Sophie responds. “You’re weird.” Amanda responds. The tape glitches.  “First we’re going to need to go to the store to buy some seeds, can you tell me where the store is?” Sophie clicks on the store. “Great! Let’s go-go-go-go-go-” the tape glitches again. Wow, these are so old. Sophie thinks to herself.
“Wow there’s so many options, what are we going to grow?” Wooly asks.
“Vegetables!”
“Vegata..bles?” Wooly repeats.
“Yep!”
“In our new garden?” “That’s right!” Amanda beams. Wooly looks disappointed. “What is it?”
“Nothing, I just thought we’d be growing flowers.” Wooly mumbles in an annoyed tone under his breath.
“Flowers are boring! Vegetables are flowers you can eat!”
“Wha- No! Flowers are pretty! They’re nice to look at and they smell nice!”
“And they die wither and rot come fall. Good idea Wooly!” Amanda beams.
“Wha- no!” Wooly sounds angrier at this then he should be. He stops himself and takes a deep breath. “How about this? I get flowers, you get the vegetables. Okay?”
“Okay…” Amanda seems a little confused and uncomfortable.
“So can you tell me where the---------” The tape glitches as Amanda and Wooly talk over each other, both glaring at each other with annoyance.
“Sorry, you go first.” Wooly chuckles nervously.
“Can you tell me where the vegetable seeds are?” Amanda smiles. Sophie clicks on the vegetables. “Great job!”
“Can you tell me where the flower seeds are?” Wooly asks. Sophie clicks on them. “Thank you!”
“Now we need to pick out which vegetables we want! I want to make some BLTs at some point. So we definitely need some lettuce and tomatoes. Then maybe some cucumbers so we can have salads.”
“Honestly… that doesn’t sound so bad.”
“Can you tell me where the seeds are?” Amanda asks. Sophie clicks on all three seeds with no problem. “Good job!” Amanda smiles.
“As for flowers I’m thinking daffodils, daisies, and… lavender…” Wooly closes his eyes wistfully.
“Lavender?”
“It smells so good. And I remember once hearing that it can help with anxiety and sleep!” Wooly explains, “um… not that I have any problems with anxiety or sleep or anything. The point is it’s known to be a very calming flower.”
“I guess that’s interesting…” Amanda sighs.
“Can you tell me where those are?” Wooly asks. Sophie clicks on the correct flowers. “Yay! These are going to look so pretty in the yard.”
“Now let’s go home so we can plant these seeds!” Amanda tells us. The tape glitches back to the back yard. “I have all the gardening tools laid out here. What do we need first?” Sophie clicks on the shovel. “That’s… right…” Amanda says, then she shakes it off. “First we need to plant the seeds!”
“Be sure to look at the instructions on the back!” Wooly instructs.
“Wooly… there are no instructions on the back…” “Oh… there are in real life though…” Wooly sighs.
“First we dig a hole about this deep, then we put the seeds in…” “I’m starting to think we should’ve gotten plants instead.” Wooly thinks out loud.
“Well the store only has seeds, Wooly.”
“Ah… haha… Bummer.”
“Anyway we planted the seeds. Now what do they need?” “Fertilizer!” Wooly announces. Water Sophie types.
“Water!” Amanda beams.
“What? No, they'll grow faster with fertilizer!” Wooly protests.
“But the only place we can get that is the farm.” Amanda replies.
“No! I don’t want to go baaaack there!” Wooly panics. Amanda looks… a little guilty.
“Yeah I know. Which is why we don’t have fertilizer.” Amanda sighs.
“I’m sorry…”
“It’s fine Wooly.” “What do we use to water the seeds?” Sophie clicks on the watering can. “Riiiight.” Amanda says slowly. She starts to water the plants.
“Don’t water them too much!” Wooly warns.
“I know Wooly, I got this.” Amanda sighs. “There. Now we wait.” Amanda and Wooly stand there waiting for a bit.
“Huh? Usually when we do this episode they grow immediately.”
“It’s probably because we don’t have fertilizer.” Amanda deduces. “Guess we’ll have to… get some.” Wooly looks terrified. “Wooly, the episode won’t end until the plants grow!” Amanda reminds him.
“So? We can play some more right?” Wooly laughs nervously. Amanda bits her lip.
“How about this, you stay home and keep an eye on the plants so the birds don’t eat the seeds.” Amanda suggests, “And I go to the farm.”
“Okay…” Wooly sighs. The tape glitches to the farm. But both Amanda and Wooly are there.
“Oh… I guess… the show won’t let you do that.” Amanda notes, she sees Wooly panicking, “It’s just the farm stand, not the petting zoo. You should be fine. We’ll be quick.” Amanda reussers him. But he says nothing. “Wooly, you can talk, you know.” Amanda says.
“Oh, okay…” Wooly mumbles.
“Can you tell the farmer what we need?” Amanda asks. The “farmer” is a motionless scarecrow, placed between the crops and the farm stand. Sophie types in fertilizer. “That’s right! Now let’s go home!”
“Meow!”
“Aww… it’s a lonely kitt-” The tape glitches back to the backyard.
“I’m fine? I’m… fine. I’m fine!” Wooly gasps, fully relieved and almost a little excited. Amanda looks away. “Haha! Hahahaha! Take that stupid farm! Sheep says Baaa! No more! Haha!”
“Glad you’re happy Wooly.” Amanda sighs tiredly, “But uh… the flower bed is all dug up.”
“They’re what now?” Wooly stops in his tracks. Amanda checks the beds for seeds.
“No no no no! The birds ate all our seeds! Now we’ll have to plant them all OVER again!” Amanda screams. “GRAH!” she stamps her foot.
“Don’t worry Amanda, we still have more seeds, we can plant them again!” Wooly reussers her.
“Yeah but aren’t you frustrated?” Amanda asks, “Aren’t you mad?”
“I… I uh…” Wooly freezes up, “Let’s get these… seeds… pla-planted…”  the tape glitches and the seeds are all planted again. “Whew! That was a lot of work! Now let’s add fertilizer!” Wooly smiles. Sophie clicks and drags the fertilizer to each plant.
“Now what do we use to water them?” Amanda questions. Sophie clicks on the watering can. “That’s right.”
“Can I water them this time?” Wooly asks.
“Sure Wooly!” Amanda says cheerfully. Wooly creates little moats around the holes and waters them.
“Gotta make a moat to protect the castle from invaders!” Wooly laughs. The tape glitches and the plants are watered. “Now we wait.” This time, Amanda and Wooly watch as the plants slowly rise from the ground. “Yay! Now we can pick our plants!” Amanda beams and the tape ends. Now to find that next tape… Sophie thinks.
Authors note: Finally managed to finish this one. Have been doing a lot more editing on the recent episodes. Trying to figure out the future of this fic series lol.
