Lumina smiled and retreated into the alley. It appeared to be empty until they moved a few feet past the entrance, then they were behind the illusion she'd set up. There were a few comforts there - some large cushions that could double as a bed or a chair, some books, and a space heater powered by a solar generator.

"That took some very clever tricks to get," Lumina said, gesturing to the generator, "The DUPs use 'em to power some of their equipment. Trust me, escaping a squad of pissed off troopers while lugging that thing around was not easy. And before you ask how I managed to hide this place, I'm a photokinetic - I can manipulate light. It's a bit of a chore keeping the illusion up especially at night but it's the best way I can hide at the moment."

"I’m not an idiot. Lying would get me killed," she said quietly, a hint of humor in her words. The offer for a place to crash was appealing, at least for tonight. Ri had plans to get in deep with this city, even if it meant going public. A night of anonymity could not hurt her cause. "I think I will take you up on that offer." Lumina was one of those types, Ri decided. The kind that were so outwardly aggressive and paranoid that the internal was just another, muted copy. If it meant survival, losing oneself made sense. Ri had just seen too many like Lumina to like it. “Let’s go before a patrol starts asking questions then.”

There was a long moment of silence while Lumina processed what she'd been told. Then she cracked a smile, "You didn't lie. Good," she said, holstering the pistol, "I did not want to get into a fight today. You need somewhere to hide? I mean my place is kinda small but you can crash for the night if you like. It's getting dark and I think I saw a patrol pass by like half an hour ago." She definitely wasn't a DUP. An agent wouldn't outright admit to being a government worker, though the fact that she could forge suggested something in a similar vein. Lumina didn't particularly care though - if she wasn't a DUP that was good enough for her.

Sayuri’s fucked up. The woman can feel it, in between the curiousity and bitterness of this woman and her own stupid, silly mistake of opening her mouth. There’s a couple options now: lie convincingly, and for this seemingly cynical woman, Sayuri’s not sure it’d work no matter how clever the lie, or be honest and vague about it.  The one thing she’d learned even after all these years was that she hated liars. And if she was struggling, she’d attack a liar before she asked for the truth.  "I’m a good forger, that’s why. Some of my old, government official paperwork and an hour of time and I got a pass in and out with no checkpoints. I do not like being kept tabs on."

"You had better start believing in nightmares, you're in one."

Lumina froze up, a chill running down her spine - not from the words themselves, but the tone that delivered them. This woman was dangerous. She hesitated for a second before she snapped out of it and set a smirk on her face, "I'm sorry, if you're trying to threaten me, you're going to need something much less...lame."

"Afraid not, Banner Man," she said, smiling a bit as she said his codename again, "You're stuck with the name. It'll grow on you, I'm sure."

     “Are you joking?”

"Something like that," Lumina said, a bitter edge to her voice. She wasn't exactly about to spill her life story to this woman, but she wasn't far off. "Well, not her personally, but the DUP, and since she's the head of the organisation..." she trailed off, shrugging.

"What I'm more interested in is how you got into the city with those powers. The DUPs have checkpoints set up everywhere."

"We’re trapped here," Ri said slowly, feeling the ball of tension building in her stomach, a strange choking sensation in her throat. Trapped, with the threat of capture. That didn’t make sense, not when she got in here so easily - first running from the other agents, now this. The woman stared at the ground, her shoulders tensing, the feeling of being caught in a corner lending her this wild, manic idea to escape, to fight, to anything. Anything was better than being caught, even by this force she didn’t know. "I… I didn’t know that. I thought, I thought that… it doesn’t matter." Ri paused. “Did she capture someone you care about?”

"Because we're trapped here. Augustine, the bitch in charge, she destroyed the bridges leading out of here and set up roadblocks at all the other exits. Any Conduit gets within a mile of any of the exits and they're as good as captured. Plus...I have another thing keeping me here."

"Oh, they never bothered me," Sayuri said, her hands going into her pockets. The fact she had been excused of the scanning thing they did, too, was not worth bringing up. This woman seemed tense and Ri did not want to push someone who was willing to do whatever was needed to survive. "I mean, I avoided them. They sound like a nightmare though. Why do you stay here if it’s that bad?"

The gun clattered to the rooftop as Lumina threw her arms around Shard, squeezing the other conduit tightly, "I'm sorry," she whispered, her head against his chest. She suddenly felt a wave of guilt. Here she'd been moping about losing her parents...but at least she had parents who were willing to accept her. She couldn't imagine what it would be like to have your own parents turn you into the DUPs.

"Nonono—It’s fine…" Shard paused for a second, "…Actually it kinda wasn’t but meh—" He waved his hand dismissively and waited a moment before continuing.

"So y’know how I was in Curdun Cay for awhile?…That was because my parents turned me in…after deliberately telling me they weren’t going to tell anyone anything about my powers—" Shard frowned, aiming his hand at the billboard again, but this time letting his shot charge enough so that when he fired it was one solid chunk of glass that took the corner off the structure. "—So I’m not too jazzed about celebrating parents when mine betrayed me not even 24 hours after I discovered my powers."

"...Yes, yes it is," Lumina said. This woman was completely clueless about the DUP invasion? What the fuck. "You mean you have seen military looking guys carrying guns? Some of 'em have concrete powers? They're called the D.U.P. Their one and only mission is to capture Conduits - people like use in case you're behind on that as well - and lock them away in a prison called Curdun Cay."

"I have… abilities, yes," Sayuri replied; she brushed the tension from her hand with a wave of her fingers, proceeding to stick both in the pockets of her coat. The ex-agent never anticipated running into any of the mutant variety, not with the current threat to them all. "The entire world is dangerous for people like us. I’m new to this city though… is surveillance that bad?"

"So," Lumina said after her next magazine was empty, "What happened to make you hate these holidays? If it's not too personal! You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to."

"Not." A shot went off. "At." Shot. "All." As the third shot hit the billboard, she looked over to Shard before patting the roof next to her, "This is the only gun I have, but we can share if you want."

"No thanks," he shook his head. Shooting glass out of his palms was enough, and he didn’t really have the proper knowledge to use her gun anyhow. So throwing a cluster of glass at the billboard would have to do for now; he moved like he was throwing a frisbee, but several misshapen pieces of glass took the place of the plastic disc. Shard took a seat beside her and continued, "Guns really aren’t my thing."

"Not." A shot went off. "At." Shot. "All." As the third shot hit the billboard, she looked over to Shard before patting the roof next to her, "This is the only gun I have, but we can share if you want."

Shard plugged his ears with his fingers as he materialized from a cloud of glass next to Lumina, saying, “So you’re not a huge fan of parent-related holidays either, I’m guessing?”

A small stack of spare magazines sat next to Lumina as she took aim at a billboard and started shooting, a foul look on her face. Once she heard the click of an empty mag, she reached for another one when she heard someone moving behind her.

"If you're here looking to settle a grudge or to haul me off to Curdun Cay, I'd suggest you reschedule," she said, though it sounded close to a growl.

Ever since her parents were killed, Mother's Day and Father's Day have been days where she's more on-edge and angry than usual. Before Seattle was locked down, she spent those days visiting her parents' graves.
