final TOG 2 thoughts: there is a much better movie in there somewhere that strips the first immortal / last immortal concept out entirely and allows Quynh to be the big bad. Quynh wanting her immortality to end after centuries of repeated awful dying contrasting w/ Booker (who she's kidnapped and does not immediately release) slowly coming to the realization that he *does* have family to live for and that there's good shit out there in the world if he's willing to look for it. Quynh being convinced that Nile has the power to end her immortality bc she thinks Nile took away Andy's. Quynh trying to box Nile into a corner to do what Quynh wants by threatening Nile's mortal family. Nile having to face her mortal family after letting them believe she's dead, having to let the life & family she's left behind and the life & family she's chosen come together.
and then on the final showdown, Nile and Andy facing off against Quynh together. Quynh deals Andy a mortal wound; Nile deals Quynh one. Quynh still heals. it turns out her obsession with Nile was always wrong; Andy lost her immortality because she stopped *believing* in the life she was living. Quynh in angry hateful tears begging a dying Andy to come back, it's Quynh who's supposed to be dying. Andy quipping, "I always go first" and then dying
and then if you want a happy ending: Andy coming back after. Andy regaining her immortality *because* she cherishes her life and believes in what she does and isn't ready to end yet. Andy and Nile bringing Quynh back into the fold. Andy and Nile and Quynh and Booker and Nicky and Joe *healing* together
do you see my vision
#EXACTLY#The Old Guard 2#The Old Guard#I'd still find a place for Uma because she's awesome#I'd also keep Booker losing his powers but without him getting a pointless death

Been thinking about this all day, and I think the main thing this movie failed to understand about itself is this: the immortality was supposed to be the premise, not the plot.
Like, the immortality piece fuels the villains in the first film, but the unknowability of it is part of the point. It’s a dreadful curse, to outlive all your loved ones. Or, it’s a powerful gift, to grow and nurture a relationship for centuries on end. Or, it’s a complicated responsibility, a way you are uniquely positioned to help make the world a better place, and how much of that mantle should you take on? It’s the premise, the vessel through which the themes and characters can be explored.
The point was never to find out the “rules” and drop a bunch of lore about it. This movie took the premise and made it the plot, and that I think was its cardinal mistake.

Chyler and Melissa having family centric dramas out is making me reminis.
God, I want them to work together again so much.
Melissa recurring as a character Kat meets in the past. Chyler introduced as new important character for Bree in season 2 (a lawyer trying to help her with her son).
#Chyler Leigh#Melissa Benoist#The Way Home#The Waterfront#Maybe in either scenario their characters fall in love idk

you poor pretty little thing...
jooran in the end (i'm sure she would've agreed to be jeongnyeon's concubine 🤭):
Excerpt from Woo Davi's interview regarding this scene:
"I saw comments about that scene saying, ‘Who wouldn’t fall for Kim Tae-ri if she looks at you like that?’ and I totally agreed. (Laughs) Honestly, I fell for her in real life too. Her gaze has this way of pulling you in."
#jeongnyeon: the star is born#jeongran#Yoon Jeongnyeon#hong juran#this scene still has in a chokehold

This is exactly my analysis of Nueng.
And this carries true up to the latest episode. She doesn't want Anueng to isolate herself from her family (no matter how she feels about them in the present), she doesn't want to live life without considering the feelings and thoughts of those close to them. But then, in the heat of the moment, she makes a call, publically confesses her love, and was possibly going to ask Anueng once again to stay, and what happens? Anueng's life is now in danger. Once again, she's about to act "selfishly" and her worst fear comes to fruition.
I don't know how the writer will get Nueng through this trauma to accept happiness for herself again. But I look forward to it.
If Aneung asked this to Neung when she was younger, back in her rebellious stage, she would have said no without hesitation. But she doesn’t, and that’s because Aneung has taught her a life changing lesson: How to be selfless.
Prior to Aneung, Neung acted in her own self interest, or selfishly if you will. Meaning she put her needs before others no matter the cost. This mindset is what lead her to leave the palace, Chet, and her family in pursuit of her own happiness. But since then, Neung regrets how her decision negatively impacted the people closest to her.
We’ve seen her in turmoil over losing Song and refusing to patch things up with the Grandma’am before she died. Hell, her actions almost led to Aneung not being born.
Earlier in the episode, when they were fighting, Aneung called out Neung for this behavior.
Neung is trying to make amends for the past, and prevent Aneung from burning familial relationships. So yes, Neung does think about Aneung’s feelings A LOT. Because she cares for Anueng so deeply, Neung’s thinking transitions from selfish to selfless.
The temptation for Neung to act selfishly is great. A part of her wants to scream no, wants to pour her heart out, wants to fight against Aneung’s wishes and tell her no, I want more. I want you. The conflict is written all over her face.
But Neung has changed. She learned what it means to put others’ needs before your own.
So Neung decides to be selfless and let Aneung go because she believes that’s what Aneung truly wants and she respects Aneung’s desires. She doesn’t want to be like everyone else in Aneung’s life that’s imposing their own wishes onto her.
The irony is that Aneung wants Neung to never stop fighting for her. Aneung wants Neung to admit she wants to be with her. Admit that she wants everything from her even when Aneung tries to quit. And it’s obvious that Neung does want more, but she’s holding back and Aneung is beyond frustrated.
Bottom line: Anueng can’t see the self sacrifice Neung makes by accepting her offer to reset. Aneung can’t see that Neung loves her so much she is willing to sacrifice her happiness for Anuneng’s happiness. And Neung can’t see that Aneung’s happiness is having her and being hers.
This entire fight is basically an incredibly well executed and sophisticated “miscommunication” scenario and I’ll never be over it.
