What if Human League wasn’t the name of a band, but a unit of measurement?

I have always had fun at the idea that the Valleyspeak contained a word - Monet - to define someone who is god looking from far away, but ugly when seen from a closer distance. I keep on thinking of it, while I’m listening to Mutant by the producer Arca of (Bjork and FKATwigs fame) which is very much about splatters of sound granules building an underlying sense of intimacy and longing (while I think a lot of peers - also in the let’s s call it post-internet abstract electronics, have stepped in the land of nostalgic kitsch), while keeping a very formalistic, detached almost catalogue-like nature. A long, bold record (in the sense he could have had a strange pop with vocals one by now) and probably on the most interesting of 2015 (December being just just the corner). The pic is a Monet: a cropped close-up of Saint-Georges majeur au crépuscule

In the ‘80s there was this trend of stores selling mixed goods as funny toys, birthday cards, pranks, school gear, stickers and pins. The one in my town was called Punto d’Incontro (”meeting point”). As kids, we trolled around there on Saturday afternoons to check new items that could have been in the line of stink-bombs or underwear with innuendo pics on them. Naj Oleari patterns and The Peanuts merchandise were king. Gerry Read in a way remembers me of Punto d’Incontro: it’s rough and there’s 80s house; profane fun and cutting-edge. Bravo.

You must love the way in which Zomby keeps up to (and articulates) his aesthetics in everything he does: from his troublemaking twitter persona to this black and white, stylish reinvention of early techno and acid in the first half of Let’s Jam, before going back to stylized  version of UK bass in the second half.

This weekend, as some other weekends, we won’t be listening club-related music, so we celebrate with one of the most ferociously anti-disco tune of rock and roll history: “Panic” from The Smiths. Wasn’t rock and roll, Morrisey was rabid fan of, a form of dance music in the first place? (or would Larry Levan “narrative” disc jockey style have fitted his taste?) Such issue seem to come now from the same era of the pyramids and the Sybil and imagine a parallel world in which young Moz visits Paradise Garage. Have a crunchy Saturday anyways.

Stump Valley fits in a long history of “mysterious” “faceless” techno producers: love the fact they are using “afro” and “cosmic” like the wandering hippie with a guitar that was on almost Italian Renault 4 in the early 80s. This is un-hollywoodesque as it gets: sparse and lunar deep house that could use a Frank & Tony edit.
