Leaving aside that any variation of "this is happening because leftists wouldn't pinch their nose and vote for the lesser evil™" about the bombing of Iran is just factually untrue (Harris made it repeatedly clear that she considered Iran a threat which she would make a priority to stop with military force, and Democrat presidents don't exactly have a track record of being more opposed to bombing middle-eastern countries than Republican presidents), it's just such a perfect demonstration of first-world ghoulishness how so many self-proclaimed progressive americans will see people in another country get bombed and their first though will be "I should use this to votescold other americans" before the bodies are even cold.

people will tell you they hate tofu and think its disgusting and then you ask them how they prepared it and you find out they cooked it in the most disturbingly bland unseasoned way possible. like yeah no shit
#someone should explain this to my local Chinese restaurant down the street#their idea of “general tso's tofu” is thick cubes of boiled tofu coated in sauce that instantly slides off the moment you take a bite

I want to make one thing extremely clear- all the memes that USAmericans are making about the bombing of Iran are extremely fucking insensitive. Get a sense of self-awareness, people fucking died. This isn't about you.

I don't consider myself asexual (though I have floated the thought around more than a few times) but watching most porn of any orientation makes me go "why would somebody do something like that"

it’s like this.
if you only have one person in your life that you trust, you probably are always going to turn to that person when something shit happens. as well as whenever something good happens. or anything else. this is not inherently a bad thing, and it’s really beautiful to have someone in your life that you trust so much
but if that person is suddenly busy or going through something difficult themselves or doesn’t have emotional capacity for a while, suddenly there’s a problem. not necessarily through any fault of your own, you don’t have anyone to turn to with as much regularity as you did before
this is true of any kind of relationship. this is true of any kind of coping mechanism, also. the problem is not that you trust that person. the problem is not that you use that coping mechanism. the problem is not even that there’s something wrong with you and that it’s all your fault. the problem is that nothing can be everything
the solution is not to cut off your one trusted person or to cut yourself off from your one trusted coping mechanism. the solution is to do the difficult work of diversifying your life as much as it’s possible for you to do. which is why it sucks so much when external factors prevent you from being able to live a truly diverse life. okay that’s all have a good one

I feel like I'd hate the "God is evil and needs to be killed" trope even if I were an atheist partly because it's done to death but also because it puts so much blame for the state of the world on God(s) instead of the human power structures and material conditions that are actually causing the problem
Like yeah disease and natural disasters suck (even though values-wise these events are amoral at worst) but poverty doesn't exist because of God, it exists because of capitalism. Wars don't exist because of God, they exist because of human economic and ideological conflict. Women aren't treated as lesser because God made them weak and inferior, they're treated poorly because of misogyny.
Different religions obviously have their own justifications for certain social structures to exist but by and large it feels like the pseudo-Gnostic attitude of "God is the problem and we can kill him" is a convenient way to compartmentalize your anger at capitalism and patriarchy and redirect it towards something more abstract to distract you from the actual solutions to these problems (i.e. redistribution of wealth, resources, and political power)

George: They're platonizing me Jerry! Platonizing me! I have a perfectly good temple cult Jerry, but they keep talking about Henads and Monads. I can't keep up!
Jerry: The nerve of some people. You know, a Buddy of mine had to syncretize his temple cult. His statue god is one of Zeus's daughters now.
Elaine: Look on the bright side, if you learn Greek you can slip your own theology into Christianity. It'll be like you never left.
Kramer: Jerry! Jerry! A new prophet was born in Mecca!

This father's day I spent time appreciating all of the positive masculine role models in my life who inspire me to be a better man, and that includes lots of people in my life EXCEPT for my father or my stepfather, two absolute trashfires of men who taught me above all how NOT to be a man
Anyway the only father I need in my life is the Divine Father of Gods and Men who embodies and shapes the Cosmos with the Logos

Perseus was my favorite mythological hero growing up because I too wanted to go on a magical quest to save my mother from an abusive, powerful tyrant who was also my stepfather and turn him and his loser friends to stone
#if you bring up ovid's version of the story to do Medusa apologia you're getting blocked#thats not the only version of the story#Greek mythology#Perseus

On one hand you will never get me to believe that eternal punishment for any living being (who is by nature impermanent and temporary) exists in a world governed by an all-good divinity, but on the other hand I totally understand why the concept of hell is so appealing to many because some people go out of their way to loudly and proudly demonstrate why they deserve it
