When I first heard There Are Other Ways, I was a little disappointed by the fact that Circe didn’t successfully seduce Odysseus, considering the huge Greek Mythology nerd I am.

Bear with me.

Then, I played the saga, and that song, for my wonderful mother tonight. About halfway through, I gasped.

The story is accurate to the Homeric version: he confronts her (clandestinely at first), she fights back, he pulls the sword.

But she’s not afraid. Of course she isn’t.

Why would an immortal being, with the rage and power of commanding a million different beasts if her Plan A goes down, be afraid of a measly man with a flimsy toothpick to her throat, just because he ate a flower and said “Be afraid!”?

That’s right! She wouldn’t.

Because Jay didn’t submit to the blatant misogyny of the tale.

Read this article for incredible information, if you please. It changed the way I saw Circe’s story.

If Circe cowered, simply because a man held a sword to her throat, only then would she have seduced him (if we’re going ultra-canon with the storyline, which Jay isn’t), which would have, yet again, thrown off the balance of power.

Circe could give less of a shit about the sword, in the song. She thinks he’s pretty hot, and maybe she’s manipulating him into coming to bed with her so she can trick him, so she offers a tryst or two. Here, if you read the article, she is throwing off the nature of men and women by being the active sexual partner.

He refuses, too enamored with Penelope, and shuns his curiosity in her. You can hear how it pains him, it’s a struggle to say no. But he does. He’s strong, he’s no god, cheating on his wife for the sake of sex appeal. He’s just a man.

He begs. That’s the thing that got me. Not her, him.

“So I beg you, Circe, grant us mercy, and let us puppets leave~”

Then, Circe offers to help him — not because she’s restoring the nature of being submissive — but because she has empathy and compassion for the man. She helps him because he’s proved himself, to be weary, and faithful, and human. She knows the feeling of love.

So, yes. So many layers. Like an onion, worthy of making you cry.

1. Jay is spitting in the face of misogyny and gender roles, and having her help him because she empathizes. Because she’s in power.

2. It’s sort of a jab, if interpreted a certain way, at sexual assault. He says no, and he holds true to it. Even though everything is telling him to give in, to let it happen, he refuses, and remains as sure as he can be.

3. It shows how very human Odysseus is. Athena forgot it, and somehow held him to it. Even the men forget it. But he never does. There is only so much he can do.

This is my favorite saga so far.

I keep rewatching Nightshade's conversation with Sam, and I'm just so euphoric...I know I'm not alone in saying that Nightshade resonated with me as a queer, trans/nb tf fan. and it's just so wonderful seeing how many people in the community can see themselves in Nightshade and the others...Transformers will always mean a lot to me, since it was my first big fandom growing up, and actually helped me navigate my identity as a queer person, even when I didn't know my identity had a name.

What especially resonates with me about Nightshade's character is their confidence and how affirmed they are in their identity, even before they could put a name to how they felt. Even before they gained their alt form, they felt whole just as they are. Even Tarantulas admires them for being so affirmed in their sense of self, seeing it as a gift! Their identity isn't a source of shame or suffering, but a source of pride and love. Even before they had a name to their queer identity, they were never 'lost'. And their conversation with Sam was just so liberating...finally having a name to their gender, and speaking it with such love...recognizing their nonbinary experience as something wonderful and beautiful.

And that means the world to me. Because it is what I want for myself. Growing up the way I did, I had always been afraid to explore my gender...shame was so deeply ingrained into me at a young age, and even now I still falter. But even if I'm scared, I feel more euphoria at being myself, my messy he/they self! So seeing Nightshade's confidence just resonates so deeply with me, and is certainly something my younger self could have used growing up. But I am so blessed I could see this now, and that the current age of young transformers fans have heroes they can see themselves in, and to see themselves and their experiences as something truly wonderful!

meeting him after he finishes volleyball practice, it's early evening, the sun is just beginning to disappear beyond the horizon, but the summer warmth is still very present in the air outside. he meets you at the same corner after every practice, although he is a few minutes later than he said he'd be tonight, and his face is dusted with a slight reddish hue.

your face lights up when you see him, and the first thing you do when he approaches is engulf him in a hug, he reciprocates, but, like always, he warns you that he's still sweaty and he doesn't want you to think he's smelly. and you, like always, tell him that it doesn't matter, and that you just want to hug him.

he grabs your hand sheepishly, still nervous, even though you've officially been dating for almost a month now (and were friends long before that). but he doesn't move to walk down the road like usual, instead he stands directly in front of you, your toes almost touching, and he asks, somehow braver than he was feeling 5 minutes ago, whether you'd be okay with him kissing you.

his face is a deep beetroot colour now, and you can feel your own cheeks heat up at his question. his voice is so quiet, and he avoids your gaze, afraid that he'll run away from you if he so much as looks at your face. but when you whisper a small yes in return, his eyes snap up to yours, a smile spreading across his face, and you can't help but match the grin that ghosts his features as he slowly brings his lips closer to yours.

I always stress that I’m one of those writers that completely disregards Miguel’s character and complexities and I don’t represent him properly in my writing.

He’s so cool it’d kill me if I didn’t do him justice, especially since a lot of my content is sexual and revolves around making inferences into what kind of a lover Miguel would be.

It means the world to know that I’m doing an okay job at writing him 😭💜

If anybody does have any issues with the way I write Miguel, PLEASE let me know. I try my hardest to stay true to the traits he portrays in both the comics and movies, but I can get caught up in the smut sometimes and lose sight of his character (i’m just a horny girl, your honour!!)

i get so feral thinking about usopp’s relationship with giants in the series. he was so inspired by broggy and dory as warriors and became even more motivated to reach his dream,,,,, he exposed the lies of the world government to the giants at eneis lobby thereby helping them and his crew,,,,, a giant lifted him up and proclaimed him a god after he fought for the tontatta!!!! idk something about lil ol usopp constantly making connections with some of the strongest beings makes me so emotional. if usopp doesn’t have the best arc of all time when we get to elbaf i will be rioting and storming oda’s home

also phil was ABSOLUTELY the best choice for the leader of the red team. everyone wanted him to be their leader and he's supportive of his team members, cares deeply for all of them and is doing as much as he can to make sure they're all taken care of. at the same time he's able to match their level of absolute chaos and and while he's just as hopeless as the rest of them he is Still able to offer them that spark of motivation that they need to keep going. everyone was down in the dumps at the beginning of day 2 and then carre came back to the server and phil popped into vc and gave them guidance and reassurance and they are DOING BETTER NOW!!! theyre not as hopeless anymore!! they're going out and doing wacky shit and inconveniencing others in the best way that they can. the game is DEFINITELY biased against team bolas but they are doing everything they can with the cards they've been dealt and there is no one better to spearhead their efforts than phil
