This scene makes me super sad because Even most likely attempted to protect Ienzo but Xehanort got them anyway.

Then when Even wakes up as a Nobody and discovers his weapon is a shield, he probably thinks it’s cruelly ironic. Like a constant reminder that he failed to protect the one thing he cared about other than science.
