Nothing beats the feeling when you start getting comments on every fic in a fandom or ship from one person, and it’s clear that they’re going on a fic-binge.

idk if this is a young fan thing or new fandom culture but some of yall think fics are abandoned way too quickly. a few months or a year or two is not unusual to go without a fic update. sometimes fics take longer to write, other times writers have rl events, or maybe there's multiple fics and one gets more priority. there are tons of reasons for fics not to be updated every week or every month. it also isn't uncommon for people to come back and update fics after a number of years—ive read updates that took five, or ten years. people's lives change, but they still want to tell their stories. personally, i never consider a fic abandoned unless the author has said so; though if it's been a few years i manage my expectations. but a last update being a year ago is... generally not a sign that a writer has abandoned their fic
#nothing I’ve written is abandoned yet#but I am guilty of the 1yr+ hiatus in Dare to Tread because Life Happened#and now sidetracked on different projects#one day

New Keefe POV story up!
This is chapter one of an AU, which promises to be a long one. I'll try to be fairly regular about posting - the plan is to drop a chapter every week or so. Wish me luck!
Synopsis:
Keefe and Fitz have just finished their Elite Levels when Keefe's view of himself and his whole life are turned upside down after he realises he can speak a human language he never learned. The signs all appear to point to London, so Biana - who has taken over the Vacker family's ongoing search for a hidden elf among humans - drops him off for an extended stay to find answers.
What (and who) he finds there will have ramifications beyond his wildest dreams - or worst nightmares.
(Or: What if Sophie wasn't found and so the Black Swan and Neverseen never came to light? Set more than 5 years post start-of-canon divergence, where the extra years of "peace" have been nothing more than breathing room...)

This is a wheel with 250 fandoms, people, topics, specific words, etc. Spin it once.
Whatever you landed on has completely disappeared from Tumblr. Any posts including or referencing it have vanished, and none will ever be made again. No one else notices its absence, and no one else will ever ask about it.
#I got Star Trek (all forms)#I would notice this absence IMMEDIATELY#not just for myself but also because Star Trek is a special subject for my eldest spawn (who is autistic like me)

Trying to work out when I first found your fics. Maybe 2014 or so, I think.
I really valued finding a strong and proud adult woman in fandom and fic spaces at a time when I thought I was the only adult woman there, sticking out like a sore thumb in a sea of people much younger than me.
It gave me strength to stop being apologetic for being me and for enjoying the fandom spaces I was in. Eventually, a couple of years ago I even started to write my own fics - partially inspired by my kids who are now old enough to be entering fandom themselves, for the fandom they were drawing me into, but only actually brave enough to convert their prompting into actual stories because I had been inspired by you.
Congratulations, @annerbhp, on your anniversary and a heartfelt thank you for your fics, your enthusiasm, your example. Here’s to many more years!
This day TWENTY YEARS AGO, I apparently posted my first ever fic to ffnet.
This 1800 word fic was a Sam/Jack fic in the SG-1 fandom. It was written in first person POV, which is something I rarely, if ever, did again. It also had major character death, which, wow, way to come out swinging with the angst.
The header info is even funnier and gives a great glimpse into naughty-aughts approaches to such things:
Ha! Disclaimers! And not for content, but from a "PLEASE DON'T SUE ME FOR THIS LITTLE FIC." Ah, what a time, what a time. Also the classic archiving fic to some places I am sure aren't around anymore. The SJD, which I cannot remember what that is for the life of me, and good old Heliopolis. Which is STILL THERE! Wow. Amazing. Though apparently I posted this and another fic in January to Heliopolis, so maybe I missed the date. Whatever, let me have my joy.
Since it it officially my 20-year anniversary, I am planning on taking some time this week to reflect back on the last 20 years, not just the fic I've written, but the fic I've read, the experiences I've had, and the friendships I've built. So buckle in! And if you were around back in 2005, I want to hear your experiences too!
My inbox is open and my nostalgia is high, so ask away about anything!

Honestly among the best renderings of Keefe’s hair I’ve ever seen. (I mean, and the rest of him too).
His hair must be about the hardest thing on the planet to draw well, but I truly dig this!

I use so many of them that I have to em-dash-check myself and change some of them to other punctuation types to make me feel better 😅
Semi-colons often work well in place of an em-dash; they’re not used particularly often (or well) either - so am I going to get accused of being AI for those, next??
someone on twitter is trying to claim that use of an em-dash is an indication of AI-generated writing because it’s “relatively rare” for actual humans to use it. skill issue

#see that there#used an em-dash and a semi-colon in one sentence#fic writer#AI can fuck off and do my dishes so I have more time for fic writing

So much this!
Being in fandom spaces is so surreal-
Bc once your age hits a 'serious' number, you start to think - "damn, I should probably stop geeking and get more serious." But then you scroll and see a 34y/o woman writing fics after driving her kids to school, a 40y/o dude making fanart of his fav super heroes and you realize - "nah, I'm actually good"
#I write fic for a series my kids got me into#so yes I’m older than the standard demographic - the standard demographic are my nerdy spawn and we will nerd together#‘mature’ age fanfic writer#(does not make me actually mature)#age is just a number#fandom life is forever

I theorise not.
Alden got one because his mind was accidentally broken, and he was important to society so holding a Planting was an important gesture.
Prentice’s mind was deliberately broken when he was believed to be a criminal. To society at large, it was not important to have a planting. In fact, it’d be easier on them all *not* to have to think about the fact that their “justice” process was effectively killing people - and we know elves are very good at making sure uncomfortable things like that are kept “out of sight, out of mind” (sometimes too literally! i.e. Washing memories).
The only people it would’ve mattered to would be his family and the Black Swan, and their belief that the situation would eventually be reversed by the Moonlark means they probably wouldn’t have wanted a planting, either.
Does Prentice have a wandering? Alden got one when his mind was broken so…
