“Yes, we are only human,” he says. “I am only human. And you are something else. Something bigger. Something more powerful. I don’t know what it is and I don’t want to know. But we are human. And that is its own vital thing. Our lives are so brief and they matter so much. They matter all the more for how quickly they pass.”

"Cecil’s talking to someone very specific, and I understand. There’s a car in front of us. Inside that car is David Lane. Cecil is telling David a story about him, and only him. But this, what I am telling you, is a story about me."

"You were driving a yellow Honda. I was in a silver Ford. We shared a moment of acknowledgment as you passed me. The highway was slippery from gallons of marinara sauce that had spilled out of a jackknifed semi. You were going too fast and almost hit me, then cut right in front of me, spraying tomato all over my windshield. I was too shocked to do anything at the time. But I now really wish I had honked at you. If this was you, please come to the Ralphs at 6PM today. You don’t have to stop. Just drive by slowly. I’ll recognize your car. I’d love to blast you one with my horn and yell a swear word that only I can hear. I think that would give me a lot of closure about what happened between us."

"We’ve come a long way as a town, Night Vale. Eleven years ago, it was taboo to even look toward the Dog Park, let alone directly inside it, but nowadays, it’s less of a big deal. I’m proud of how we’ve grown. But also, I’m out of paper towels and cereal, and I’m not really sure the Ralphs is ever going to restock. So I guess if it’s not one bother, it’s another."

"All in all, kind of a mixed day. Time to return the equipment to the station. Oh no, the exit from the crate disappeared, so I’ll first have to find my way out of this vast, otherworldly hotel. I hate when this happens."

"Birth is where the real drama is, but no one cares about that because everyone’s done it already and no one remembers it. We come screaming into the world with nearly infinite alternate realities opening up in front of us at light speed, and we go out mumbling and hallucinating animals until we fall into a dreamless sleep."

"Here are some quick do’s and don’ts to have a safe and scientific time at home. Do have beakers filled with different coloured substances. If some of the beakers are bubbling, all the better. Do not have the little machine with two antennae and some electricity that goes zip-zip up them. That is only for experienced professionals in well equipped laboratories. Do look at stuff under a microscope. It’s a great way to learn more about the world, because the microscope makes everything look bigger. Like, so much bigger. Do not attempt to look at your own eye through a microscope using a mirror. I tried that and it doesn’t work. Do get your partner’s enthusiastic consent and have a conversation with them about what they are hoping to get out of this scientific session. Do not try to disprove god. She hates that. Do avoid all don’ts. Don’t avoid all do’s. This has been a children’s fun fact science corner.

"Some officers tried to resist. Others surrendered to the beat. One was reminded of a time before she had ever put on a uniform, a life she had forgotten existed, and she was compelled to slip out a side exit and disappear into a third life, one that had yet to be written. Her jacket and hat were later found dressing up a saguaro cactus, which was quickly inducted as a replacement officer in her absence."

"Oh, this question wasn’t in any of the interview guides. Ok this one is a little complicated, so I’m just going to repeat the question back to you to make sure I got it right. Have I ever seen a dark planet of awesome size, lit by no sun. An invisible titan, all thick black forests and jagged mountains and deep, turbulent oceans. A monster spinning soundless, forgotten? Did I get that right? Great. The answer is no, I have not."

"As you can imagine, some of those questions were tough to answer, but Carlos and I sat him down and did the best we could. It’s a discussion that every family has to have at some point. And I’m proud to say we were able to provide Esteban with factual, non-sensationalized information about landlines, rotary dials, star codes, and answering machines. I highly recommend this movie if you’re looking for a way to open the door on having this difficult conversation with your loved ones."
