Josephine nodded slowly, tapping her fingers against the pile of letters in front of her while she contemplated the situation. In this case, as in so many more, political fancies would be absolutely crucial for the well-being of the little people - but if she had not known how to play a hand of political favors to rake in the chips that would feed the downtrodden, she would have been quite the wrong person to fill the position of the Inquisition’s ambassador.
Tumblr media
“By your leave, then, I would suggest that we take the side of Baron Ludaine, then. His claim on the land might be weaker, but he would also be more deeply indebted to the Inquisition than Comte Alcard. We could let him know that the condition for the Inquisition’s support is a promise on his part to do everything in his power to help those who have been driven from their own homes by the war.”
She stood up and turned to her shelf. “Now, as for the matter of Comte Alcard... If we are not careful, we might find ourselves confronted with the ire of his family... Let’s see...” She pulled out a tome of genealogy and put it onto the table, then she started to browse through the pages until she found the one family tree she had been looking for. Brows furrowed, she leaned over the tome and drew her fingers over the branches - then her face lighted up slightly, and she turned to another pile of letters to pull out one of them.
“As luck would have it, the favorite daughter of Marquis Suchand, the head of the family which Alcard belongs to, is going to marry in two weeks’s time. We should send a gift to the ceremony, and an invitation to the newlyweds to stay at Skyhold for a week or so. This sort of honor should sway the Suchands in our favor, and after that, Alcards grievances of us will be of little importance.”
Tumblr media
“ I am aware of my duties, Josephine. Believe me. “ It seemed she could never escape the ever piling list of things she needed to accomplish. One problem resolved and three more form in their wake. It was enough to push anyone to the bottle, but she couldn’t afford to act so irrationally. She knew her ambassador had her hands full with the nobility at her door at all hours of the day, but she wasn’t sure what her insight could truly offer. Still, she looked from her advisor to her feet as she began to shift across the floor with an all too familiar prompting for pacing. “ What I want to accomplish from this is more support for the refugees. I will not allow them to be beaten while they’re already down. the taxation of these people is near criminal, my lady. So do what you can to help them, I care not for political fancies while those people linger in filth and ruin. What is being done is unjust. “

I don't know about anyone else, but I missed your writing and your Josephine in particular. You get her voice down always so well and you're never boring, you do her great justice. On top of that, you are a very kind and accommodating mun and I don't think anyone could wish for more than that. You're great. keep that up.

It’s a marvelous thing, the ocean. For some reason when two people sit together looking out at it, they stop caring whether they talk or stay silent. You never get tired of watching it. And no matter how rough the waves get, you’re never bothered by the noise the water makes by the commotion of the surface - it never seems too loud, or too wild.

She raised her eyebrows slightly when Enelya looked down, and she tilted her head inquisitively.
Tumblr media
“Are you not confident in your own goodness, then, Inquisitor?”
She ponders over the words, staring closely at the diplomat. After a moment, she blinks, her gaze dropping.
”You make it sound so easy. You’re… good. You’re confident in it.”

“Orlesian pastries are especially delicious, really. We have quite a few sweet dishes in Antiva, but we are better with savory things in general.”
Tumblr media
She smiled as she carefully took the little pot from the flame, then she extinguished the stove by putting a metal cap over the fire. “Our cook makes a pastry with a filling of tomatoes, herbs and onions. Sometimes I really miss it...”
She took a mug from one of the many shelves in the kitchen before she carefully poured the mulled wine into it, not spilling a single droplet.
“And the work I’m doing is nothing to write home about, really. Just letters to nobles or agents, nothing but routine, don’t you worry.”
"Would discussing it get the weight off your chest? Or just a bit more wine?" She returned the apologetic smile with a close-lipped, teasing grin, leaning over against the counter to watch Josephine stir.
"We have wine, but not like your human wine. You have vineyards and places to grow grapes and ferment them. Yours is much more potent. Ours is created from all manners of fruits, sometimes mixed, occasionally herbs rather than spices. It has a lighter, fruitier taste. And, unfortunately, we don’t have the great pleasure of your little pastry cakes. This, I must say, we are sad to lack."

The boy had been watching the duel with bated breath. It was exciting to see people fight like that - fight with those huge big swords and shields instead of the rapiers that were usual at home. He came out from behind the post when the one fighter was pushed back and barked out something to the other fighter, something the boy didn’t completely understand. His common wasn’t as good as it should have been, but that didn’t keep him from calling out to the female fighter: “Did he win now?”

“I am the ambassador of the Inquisition, Your Worship. That means I have not been ‘fed these lines’. I am the one who feeds them to other people.”
A servant appeared in the doorway, and Josephine quickly ordered her to tell the cook to prepare the Ostwick dishes. The girl nodded and bowed in the direction of Owen, then she ran off again.
Josephine turned to Owen. “Would you join me for a walk in the garden? I should have a little break anyway, and I’d really like to catch some fresh air.” She had been working since daybreak, and her back was acting up again... Moving her legs a little would maybe ease some of her discomfort.
Tumblr media
"I do think, unsurprisingly.” he smiled, his eyes crinkling up at the corners. “Though hearing you say so is reward in itself, my lady. Is someone feeding you these lines? No, wait. Don’t answer. My heart might actually break.”
He followed her with his gaze as she crossed the room, noting the way the gold silk of her blouse caught licks of flame in it as she passed the sconces, the flutter of her skirts. Her attire had always seemed so complicated to him. They betrayed precious little about the shape of the woman beneath, but that only impelled his fascination with them, with her.
"No mission yet, though the day is young. I’m all yours, for as long as you’ll have me. Or until the next life-threatening disaster."

“Wynne? I have read your name in some of the stories and reports of the Fifth Blight. You returned to Kinloch Lake after the arch demon was defeated, right? Did you come right from there?” She could only imagine how taxing that sort of journey must have been for a woman of Wynne’s age - and with a war between mages and templars going on, at that...
Tumblr media
"It’s all stairways and piles of stone and cobwebs! I have not encountered any giant spiders, at least — so far, anyway," she laughed, shaking her head. Why was it always giant spiders? “I am indeed, at that! Sometimes it feels so long ago, and other times, like yesterday. My name is Wynne, formerly of Kinloch Hold.”

Josephine raised her eyes at that last comment, then mirth glinted in her eyes for a second before she nodded her head ever so slightly.
“I’m not here for anybody in particular, to say the truth. Or rather, I was just taking a breath of fresh air and thought I’d come and have a talk with you when I saw that you were out and about. The weather’s quite wonderful at the moment, is it not?”
She grinned slightly, then nodded towards a flight of stairs that led up to the battlements. “You wouldn’t maybe have a few moments to spare for a little chat, would you?”
A Hero in Skyhold
Alistair had not been lying to the Inquisitor when he said that talking or fighting were the times that the song in his head faded away enough for it to not affect him. So as a result he often made his way to the training range or the tavern, letting himself be drawn into loud discussions. Anything that made noise to drown out the song that when it became quiet around him and the song grew made him feel like clawing at his face just to dig it out.
He was rather morbidly pleased with himself that he hadn’t yet.
For the moment though he’d stepped back, letting the soldiers who needed more practice then him claim the space, laughing at the bawdy jokes that seemed to be the same the world over, countries or languages bedamned. He caught a flash of shine and colour that was out of place in the corner of his vision and turned, giving a broad grin to the Ambassador of the Inquisition.
"Ambassador, to what do I owe this pleasure?" he said, snatching up his shirt from where he’d tossed it on the low wooden fence to not get soaked through with sweat. "Unless you’re not here for me. Though I warn you, I might mourn knowing you are not."
