“i know high school is long gone, but honestly? i expected a little more from someone that i did so much for.” selena sighed, applying her lip gloss, “ quinn wouldn’t have asked her to prom if it wasn’t for me.” she closed the compact mirror in her hand before looking up at her friend across the table. her hands folded as she leaned in to listen to the other. “anyways, enough about her. what have you been up to? seems like you haven’t changed one bit.”

“well... i found out that fashion wasn’t much for me anymore, so i ended up taking another route in college. although, i still love doing wedding fashion,” he answered, clicking his tongue as he spoke. “took a few years off and worked in the cosmetology section at sephora. and now i’m a undecided and a bit torn.” the male pushed the small tray of fries towards her as he snacked on one. “fry?”

“all right i can do this...” the young musician mumbled to herself as she stared at the pile of books in front of her. music theory for music composition... great. it felt like she was in school again, but she had to write this. music piece she had to pass the competition with if she was trying to be better in life. go back to the days before the darkness took over. celeste was currently sitting at the public library, writing music on her tablet. her phone doubling as a mini keyboard.

she rolls her eyes, “ boring edward, come on be more interesting for once in your life.” arya clicks her tongue, “ answer the question, come on, plus half the people we know are related to us you sicko. so historical figures are the best and most fun option.”

“you could have picked a classmate or something,” the male shrugged, giving his cousin’s question a thought. “and besides we’re all related to each other one way or another. our parents could be 36th cousins apart from each other and not know it.” he pressed his lips together before answering her, sprouting randomly, “marry rosa parks, kill george washington, and fuck julius cesar... your turn. tolkien, shakespeare, and poe.”

“ so since we’re stuck here for a while,” arya drawled out, leaning back on her chair, “ fuck marry kill? george washington, julius caesar, or rosa parks, go.”

“must i have to answer?” edward said, staring at his cousin. “you could have picked someone like the forbe’s sexiest man alive or someone we know, that isn’t written in history books.” the young male crossed his legs as he sat there.

min was so late. groaning at the realization that she had overslept yet again, the college student rushed to get ready to see her older sister. it had at least been half a year since she had seen minju last, the older woman usually busy with her career as a social worker. and with min going to school upstate full time and either studying or working part time during her time off, it was nearly impossible to set a time to meet which was why this date was so important. by the time min had made it to the restaurant, she was already a little over twenty minutes late, the young woman looking exhausted as she searched the perimeters for her sister, only to spot her seconds later. “i’m sorry i’m late.” she was quick to apologize, pulling her bag off her shoulder and sitting down across from minju. “the whole morning has been off for me. have you been waiting long?” 

minju was going through all her paperwork, making sure everything was filled out properly. if they weren't, she would need to fixe it quickly before handing those files over. the elder sibling then took her eyes off of her work and smiled at min as she closed her folder. “it’s fine. don’t worry about it,” minju said as she placed the file back into her bag, “i had a few phones calls to make, so i had to finish up that business first. i didn’t want to cut breakfast short either since i’m only here for a few days before i fly back down.” she smiled as she picked up her coffee cup again. “is everything all right? did something happen?” the social worker questioned, a tad bit worried as she handed her little sister the menu. “i don’t want to pry, but you know i’m always here to help. i’m only a call and text away. also order anything you want, it’s on me.”

"yes, of course... i’ll have the court documents ready by then, there is still some last minute paperwork to fill out, but hopefully i can get it for you in time,” the social worker said, as she flipped through her paperwork in the restaurant. “yeah, i’m currently out of town, checking up on a former client. since i’m not a part of their jurisdiction, i have to have a meeting with their new case worker. yes, of course... all right, you too. bye.” minju sighed as she hung up the call with the lawyer. the female continued to shift her papers around while taking a sip of her morning coffee. she was patiently waiting for her younger sister to arrive, wanting to see how the younger hwang was doing. even though the pair don’t often see each other, minju always tries her best to make up for lost time.

how long has it been?

six hours? no, it was longer than that, quan didn’t want to eat anything those rotten pigs gave him. 

but, yes it’s been at least ten hours since he ate, maybe he should have stopped by burger king before the protest started. oh well, it was too late now, whatever.

shoving the dumpling into his mouth, he raised an eyebrow at the person in front of him, “ hey thanks for bailing me out, i’ll pay you back later. but you were the only person i knew who would answer their beeper because you have no other friends.” he laughs in between shoving the food into his mouth. 

this was the first time melissa had ever done this, but at the same time, she felt like it wouldn’t be the last of it. it was obvious her parents would have thrown a fit about bailing some random boy out of jail, but it wasn’t like she would told them the truth about it either. “it’s fine, you don’t have to worry about it,” she replied, hiding her smile with a cough. “however, it’s rude of you to assume that i have no friends. i didn’t come to hawaii to spend time alone by myself. besides, you caught me at a good time too.” the marine biologist gave the other a sweet smile as she picked up another dumpling to eat. the young woman had wasted most of her energy in the sun, picking up and cleaning after beach go-ers. she didn’t realize how hungry she was until she got a beep from quan. “so what did you go in for?” the researcher curiously tilted her head.

“ stop giving out free desserts, you should get people to pay for those,” kenneth advised, looking through his fridge for any ingredients, “ people aren’t going to buy it if they can get it for free.”  the chef lets out a dry laugh, pulling out jar of his own pesto sauce, “ you’ll have to buy my cookbook like everyone else then ash, i don’t give them out for free.” he hums and begins boiling some water, “ they should have just dropped it off when we went to dinner last week, i’m leaving for hawaii in a few days, so they’ll most likely go to waste,” kenneth sighs, picking up some of the fruit, “ you take them home, make some desserts with them.”

“are you really trying to make your baby sister pay for your cookbook when i make free desserts for you?” her lips pressed together, pouting even further. “that doesn’t seem fair to make money off of your little sister. i don’t see my friends making off of their little siblings.” ashlynn huffed as she opened the small box of sweets, showing kenneth four petite cakes. “i made extras by accident for a beta test run, i wanted opinions before i could finalize my decision and take it up to the head chef,” the younger female said, before turning to take a look at the fruits and taking a small handful out and placing them on the counter. “at least take a few, so it looks like you took some out of courtesy,” the baker picked up one up and took a whiff of the fresh scent that lingered on the fruit. “i could make candied fruit peels with a mousse and shell coating with it...” she hummed, putting the fruit down. “what do you plan to do in hawaii, ge?”

cory flinched in reaction to clover’s high energy, “jeez, how did you get all the way up here without notifying me?” he held the door open a little more, inviting his sister inside. “it’s cool, you just might have to sleep on the couch. someone’s currently occupying the guest room.”

the swimmer sighed as he saw the package of savory treats his sibling brought with her. it seemed as though every time he turned around someone or something was tempting him to cheat on his diet. “i’m not sure if i’ll be able to eat much of it, so if you want anything out of it feel free to take what you want. tell her i said thank you as well.”

“what’s with you going to all these cons anyways? shouldn’t you be saving your money?” he, for one, was not one to talk, but clover’s fascination with anime and their conventions was something cory never understood. cory plopped down on the couch, sprawling himself out before looking back at clover. “don’t tell me this is the only thing you’ve been up to. there’s gotta be more.”

the moment her brother allowed her in, clover rolled her two giant suitcases into the living room before going back out to pick up the box that was sitting outside. “i’m secretly running away from the leaf village because i’m out seeking my revenge,” the younger sibling joked, suddenly peaked an interest upon hearing cory having guest in the house. “i’m fine with the couch, but if you’re hiding a girl in the guest room, i can’t make any promises about mom asking me how is your living conditions.” 

clover followed behind her brother, sitting directly across from him, bouncing on the chair a few times to get comfortable. “i don’t think my suitcases can fit anymore things inside, but i’ll see if i can make use of another carry-on bag. i’m sure my artist friends would be needing some friend for our late night printing camping sessions and our snack times at our booths.”

the young artist stretched her back as she crossed her legs on the couch, slightly giving the other a displeasing look. “excuse me, mr. ariel, but that is how i make most of my money,” clover rebutted, “aside from taking in commissions and all, these cons help showcase our talent and art style. you also have top artists who are very popular among the anime art community going to these places well.” 

“i’m sad that you think so little of me,” clover pouted, her eyes wide with fake puppy tears, “it’s not like i’ve been selling my soul to dante himself to find him find his brother vergil and probably knock him on the head for cutting his son’s arm off. in other words, i also make money off of donations with the amount of anime episodes i react to and games i play.” the gamer stuck her tongue out at her brother. “what about you? are you still working your way towards the 2020 olympic gold?”

“surprise!“ clover jumped the moment her brother opened the door. “i hope you don’t mind me crashing for a few days, i’m heading up north for miyakocon in oregon and i’ll be out of your hair by then. mom also has be bringing some snacks for you.” the otaku pointed at the giant package by her feet. “she thought you would miss eating some snacks from home.”

“ i don’t know why you keep coming to my home and begging for food,” kenneth said with a sigh, bringing a pot out onto the stove, “ you’re old enough to find food yourself, what are you going to do if i move somewhere further away?” he questions dryly.

“i came all this way to see my loving big brother and to share my cute little desserts, only to be sadly questioned...” the younger female pouted, “and i miss your cooking at home, so isn’t that another reason to visit. even if you did move away, i’ll just be calling you for your recipes.” ash placed her small box of cakes on the kitchen table. “also mom and dad want me to drop off some fruits. courtesy of their co-workers and their lovely fruit gardens, i think.”

the pastry chef took a small bite out of her ten creations on the table before setting the spoon down. “this could do with less sugar. artistic wise it’s rather plain,” she hummed, critiquing her own work as she jotted down some notes in her notebook. “what do you think?” ashlynn looked up from her paperwork on the sun kitchen table. “do you think i should make any adjustments then what i have written down?” she asked her beta tester.

perhaps it was her pregnancy or her lack of interest, but the young editor could barely stay awake reading the novel in her hands. she had promised her co-worker that she would read it considering how highly the other spoke of it– although that was before she found out what it was about. “mm, hello.” lan tried to focus on each word her eyes scanned, yet she couldn’t. “  my co-worker suggested that i read american psycho because i ran out of things to do.” the young woman sighed, placing the book down next to her, “i’m not sure if it’s me, but i don’t really see the rave about it.” slowly, the woman stood up from her spot on the couch. “ why don’t we cook dinner together? it would probably be more entertaining than reading right now, if i’m honest.”

nathan hummed, pressing his lips together as he placed his bag down next to the sofa before walking over to the other. “if you’re not that interested in it, don’t force yourself to finish it either,” he said, taking her hand in his. “and besides, you look tired. why don’t you relax a bit more? or at least rest. i’ll take care of the cooking for tonight.” the medical intern smiled at lan, planting a soft kiss on her forehead. “you really do look like you need it. i think the twins are taking a lot out of you.” he gestured back to the cushioned seat. nathan could tell this was a difficult pregnancy for lan. of course, the male was ecstatic about being a father, but upon the news of twins, it made him worry quite a bit. “what do you feel like eating?” he asked.

“i mean, yeah, a little more green than you usually are.” allie said with a curt nod, as she continued to fold the laundry beside her, “ oh, so lan came back from the doctors? twins huh? i mean that’s surprising but..” she sighs, unsure how to put her brother at ease, after all, she wasn’t the picture-perfect example of serenity when she found out “ i’d be happy that the babies were healthy, and that you have a sister who happens to have a lot of old baby clothes you can use.”

the elder was still in a bit of a shock, it was a lot to process. sure, he was a twin himself, but these are his own children. his own blood and as a first time father, it was nerve wrecking enough. “of course, i would want my children to be born healthy, but these are twins. it’s double the work of one single child,” he said, trying to avoid stressing out too much. “i think  we have our baby clothes covered, lan did say something about dressing them up herself,” nathan added, “thanks for the offer though. i’ll keep it in mind in case of anything.”

“lan, i’m home!” the younger male called out from the door as he took off his shoes. “are you hungry? i don’t mind cooking dinner for tonig-” nathan soon stumbled upon his pregnant wife sitting on the couch, reading a book. the medical intern peered over, kissing the top of his wife’s head. “what are you reading?” he asked.

“ you look like you’re going to puke,” allie said dryly, unamused by her older brother’s behavior.” did you really come here just to throw up all over my new furniture or is there something important? kyle’s taking his nap so i don’t have a lot of free time.”

the older male glanced up at his younger sister. god, he could feel his stomach churning at the sight thought of telling allie that he wasn’t expecting just one child, but two. a first time father to not one, but two was rather sudden news to him. “do i look that pale to you?” he asked, taking in a deep breath for a moment. “i have to ask though; how would you feel when you hear the news that you aren’t going to be a parent to one newborn, but two in day?”
