and it reminds you that, yes, you are a revenant,
that you breathe again, with stolen lungs,
encased in splintered ribs,
protected within skin that is not yours, but a ghost’s you fail to imitate,
others won’t know, that you came back wrong, that the you they see is another, but you will.
that is the price of resurrection.
you came back wrong.

HEIRESS OF DREAMS ↳ a wip by @inkandcinnamon
“Tonight, I had my first dream. Please, don’t let me dream again.”
CATEGORY: novel
GENRE: YA fantasy
FEATURES: a magical dream world, a diverse cast, LGBTQ+ representation, subversion of gender stereotypes, strong female characters, a talking ferret named Buttercream, a soft librarian boy, a plot that darkens as it goes, my very favorite friends to lovers trope, much snark
WARNINGS: violence, insomnia, death, creepy monsters, being pursued, nightmares, memory loss (this is all I know of for now but I will always include warnings on my posts)
STATUS: outlining/plotting
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS
Clarity Blair has never had a dream. You don’t believe her, do you? That’s okay–people usually don’t. They tell her she dreams; she just doesn’t remember them when she wakes. She doesn’t care either way. Dreams sound weird, anyway. Actually, her best friend, Edry, describes them as downright terrifying. Clarity would rather experience fantasy worlds through the video games she designs.
Then, unexpectedly, Clarity dreams for the very first time. But to her, dreaming feels much more like waking up.
She finds herself crossing through the Gate of the Woken, sailing down a milky lavender canal toward Eve, a city bathed in stardust. There, Clarity meets Arabella, her chipper, chaotic “dream weaver,” who can create stories out of memories. Clarity tours Luneas, the moonlit district where fish swim the skies and galaxies swirl in teacups. She visits Sola, the sunbathed district where skyscrapers walk and a mysterious tower looms.
Then, she’s dragged unwilling to the realm of the Nightmares. There, she watches a grotesque monster eat a boy before it chases her back to the Gate of the Woken.
When Clarity wakes, she remembers everything. And she’s terrified. Not even Edry believes her story about where dreams really take you. She doesn’t want to return to Eve, but she does, of course–and discovers that the monsters are multiplying. In fact, she watches them devour the Gate of the Woken… trapping her (and the rest of the dreamers) in the City forever–never to return to the waking world.
Okay, that sucks… but it’s not Clarity’s fault, right?
The dream weavers think otherwise. You see, these monsters never existed before Clarity showed.
Clarity: the girl who wasn’t supposed to remember. The girl who wasn’t supposed to dream.
i’m currently working on character outlines/mood boards, so expect those soon!
THANK YOU for reading! if you’d like to be added to the taglist, just ask!

ACTA NON VERBA.      /     a wip introduction
“i will not let this go,” he said, mouth quivering in barely repressed anger. “i will find you and i will hurt you. i will make you feel this hopelessness, this bone-crushing anger. i will take away all that you like, all that you love, all that makes you last and i will replace it with anger, with sorrow, with loneliness; loneliness you’ll have to live with for the rest of your life, loneliness that will then become a part of you. and before you know it, you and i won’t be all that different anymore.” power. power and madness. a strange combination; something to be afraid of, to fall before.
title: acta non verba
setting: harriet, pennsylvania (a fictional town)
genre: dark academia, young adult
tropes: murder, creepy vibes, vodka aunt adopts asshole teen, human hate, found family, bisexuality strikes again, homosexuality thrives, heterosexuality? umm, in the asexual girl perhaps, opposite ends of the fucking spectrum, mutual pining (for a really long unreasonable time), resting bitch face and his chaotic boyfriend, basically a bad decision, oh no
characters.
a.   xavier fernandes: foolish boy. likes to fuck around. loves his adoptive family and will literally kill for the people he likes. doesn’t think of the consequences that might come kick him in the ass when he’s not looking for all his actions. has one single brain cell that likes sleeping as much as him. literally just a baby who Does Not Deserve This Shit.
b.   connor xiao: straight a student everyone hates. he has like heavenly visuals that xavier keeps pointing out in his no-homo proses. he doesn’t actually want to do this business management course and shit but his father won’t let him out of it. he likes motorbiking and skateboarding n shit is basically a neutral good who drinks respect women juice every morning.
c.   nadine james: bro chaotic is her middle name. she will definitely kick all your asses and jump of a building to prove a point. the combined chaotic genius of xavier and nadine is enough to rock all of america’s economy tbh. she likes learning skills in martial arts and has a black belt in taekwondo. she’s a lone wolf who likes people but doesn’t think much of skinship and to some degree, even dislikes it.
c.    adrien dasgupta: dude this guy seriously doesn’t deserve all this shit. like. why do bad things keep happening to him. a child basically. he runs away from his house and his school in another town and hides in the backyard of delton prep’s dining hall where nadine finds him and basically adopts him since she lives off campus. he’s crazy smart and all and a little too trusting. it actually suprises him when ppl care about him. baby boy. baby.

WHAT IS AND WHAT CAN BE. by voxastra
“Times are changing, Alexander,” Mr. Redmond says. His voice is ancient, dry, but his eyes twinkle a brilliant blue behind wide frame glasses. “Best we swim with the current.”
GENRE. urban fantasy, new adult
THEMES. magic, family (found and otherwise), sacrifice, the realization of potential, kindness in the face of a cold and uncaring world.
SYNOPSIS.
The city of Baltimore is teeming with the fantastical.
Magic thrives within its walls, seeping from cracks in the cement, flickering in the streetlights. Since its creation, Baltimore has been the beating heart of the supernatural on the East Coast, being the city where most of the extraplanar realms intersect with reality. And for centuries, the magical community has remained this way, hidden from the rest of the world.
However, there are some who are not satisfied with crouching in the shadows.
The only thing a prophetic medical student, a fae antiquities dealer, and a werewolf MMA fighter have in common is their connection to this hidden part of the city, and the fact that the three of them were all in the wrong place at the right time. Now, with the barrier between real and imagined becoming more fragile by the day, these three unlikely heroes will either have to get over their differences and work together, or watch the only world they know disappear forever.
one time tags for those i think would be interested! ask to be added/added permanently/removed <3

DAVIS & WALSH -> A WIP INTRODUCTION
“She committed murder in cold blood. What are you saying, Mr Walsh? That the devil made her do it?”
A true smile crossed Walsh’s face, almost too brilliant to look at. Clara recognized it—the smile of a collector talking of his pieces, or a writer talking of his novel, or her grandmother talking of etiquette. It was the smile of the enthusiast who has finally been asked the right question. “Not the devil,” he said. “Something else. Miss Davis, do you believe in ghosts?”
QUICK SUMMARY -> Wholesome Victorian era rom-com about the true meaning of family includes a surprising amount of people being possessed by murderous ghosts
AUDIENCE & GENRE -> YA, paranormal, historical fiction, romance, adventure
STATUS -> Outlining
THEMES & TROPES -> Family & found family, love, loss, death, betrayal, hopes & dreams, social convention, skeptic/believer duo, mutual pining
PREMISE -> No-nonsense Clara Davis chose independence over a loveless marriage at the cost of her family’s approval. She intends to work until she can afford her dream of travelling to India and meeting her father for the first time, but few in Victorian London will hire a young brown woman for a decent postion. Jonathan Walsh is the exception. His only demands in an assistant are courage, intelligence and practicality. The catch? He’s the eccentric young gentleman claiming ghosts are responsible for the vicious murders taking place across London—and needing her help to prove it.

Hi! For storyteller Saturday, tell me what are your characters' favorite piece of clothing! Something they wear everyday or something they feel really comfortable in, for example.
hi!! thank you so much for sending this in!!!
for the most part, ellie likes wearing oversized shirts and sweatshirts, bc like. a physical form? in this economy?? her favorite color is yellow and she has this light yellow hoodie that is super soft and she wears it A Lot ! (once she meets the other two she starts stealing their clothes too but that’s a ways off)
alex is something of a Fancy Boy in that he takes a lot of comfort in being in control of his appearance. he wears nicer clothes to work, button downs and khakis and all that. but his favorite item of clothing is this lil black bow tie he has, bc it was the first item of clothing he bought with his own money after he’d been working at the antiquities shop long enough to get paid. he wears it when he goes to see nana and the other kids.
cass isn’t much for the visual aspect of clothes, all she needs is the ability to move fast and free. most of her wardrobe consists of leggings and tighter fitting t shirts. however she does have the necklace her mom pressed into her palm the night she was turned and taken away. it’s a simple gold chain with a single ruby on the end. in the beginning harrison and the others tried to get it away from her to pawn it off, but she hissed and bit so much that they eventually grew tired and gave up.

PREPPING YOUR NOVEL.
if you want to start your novel but you’re not sure where to start, i’ve collected a bunch of resources to help you along! this includes characterization, plotting, worldbuilding, etc. @made-of-sunlight-moonlight
CHARACTERS.
name generator: this one is pretty handy. it has a bunch of different generators based on language, gods, fantasy, medieval, archetypes, etc.
➥ reedsy name generator
personality types: this is just the standard mbti personality list. it lists the strengths and weaknesses of each type, as well as how they do in relationships, etc.
➥ mbti 16 personalities
enneagram: the enneagram personality types. this may help with characterization because it has “levels of development.” it also lists common fears, desires, and how each type interacts with one another.
➥ enneagram types
emotional wound: your character should have something they believe about themselves that isn’t true. (ex: i’m worthless, i’m powerless.) this should start with an “origin” scene from their past, where something happens to create the wound. then there are three “crossroads” scenes to brainstorm, where things could have gone right for your character, but didn’t due to the wound, and because of that strengthened their belief in the wound. this helps you figure out why your character acts like they do. this is a really important one!!!
➥ emotional wound explained
WORLDBUILDING.
worldbuilding template: this is a pretty good template / guide about how to build your world. it talks about geography, people, civilizations, magic, technology, economy, and politics. (you have to download this through email though.)
➥ reedsy worldbuilding template
world anvil: if you really really want to go in-depth — this website is for you. there is so much you can do with this; i can’t list it all. history, timelines, important objects, cities, species — you name it, it’s probably on there.
➥ world anvil website
worldbuilding bible: this is just a general list on things to think about when worldbuilding.
➥ ellen brock’s worldbuilding bible
world creator: this website generates an entire planet. you can play around with the amount of land, as well as climate, although i’m not sure since i haven’t used it too much. here is the link if needed, though!
➥ donjin fractal world generator
inkarnate: this is a really commonly used one. it’s free and makes good quality maps. you can lay out cities, landmarks, regions, and they even have little dragon drawings you can put on your map.
➥ inkarnate website
a tip: don’t over-worldbuild! you’ll end up spending a lot of time on things you won’t need. focus mainly on the things that you will use!
PLOT.
plot generator: this one’s kind of nice because you can lock elements of the plot that you like. that way you can get rid of the ones you don’t like while keeping the ones you do.
➥ reedsy plot generator
writing exercises: this one has a couple different generators, including one that gives you a situation, characters, and themes.
➥ writing exercises
plot cheat sheet: this lists a whole bunch of plotting methods and their basic steps. i would play around with them and see which one works best for your method.
➥ plot cheat sheet by ea deverell
plot formula: this is mentioned on the cheat sheet, but it lists a bunch of beats and scenes which you might want to consider for those beats. kind of fill-in-the-blank-ish sort of thing?
➥ plot formula by ea deverell
save the cat: a method of plotting also on the plot cheat sheet above, but i wanted to point it out. i have been using this recently by taking a giant piece of paper, laying it out onto the floor, and making a timeline. pivotal scenes go on the right (ex: catalyst), while the bulk of scenes go on the left (ex: fun and games). i didn’t really have a website on this, but here is one that explains the beats. (i might make a post about this later, though?)
➥ save the cat explained
ETC.
story planner: this basically has a lot of templates that cover everything up there. the problem is that you get a free trial for a little while where you get as many documents as you want, then you have to pay for it. (although you can get around this by copying and pasting into a doc…?)
➥ story planner website
describing / related words: these kind of go hand in hand. if you put a word intothese websites, they will give you either a list of related words or adjectives respectively.
➥ describing words website
➥ related words website
ea deverell: i’ve pulled a lot of stuff from this website to put in this post, but there’s a lot more that can be used. Like a lot on basically anything — plot, character, world, outlining, writing itself.
➥ ea deverell website
reedsy: again, i’ve pulled a lot of stuff from them to put in this post, but there’s much more. it’s similar to the ea deverell one.
➥ reedsy website
canva: this is more for making aesthetics and covers. (this thing is really helpful —and free!) although if you use this, i’d suggest pulling pictures off a website like unsplash; that way the pictures are free to use.
➥ canva website
i hope you found this helpful!! :) happy writing!!

Storyteller Saturday
Once again, Saturday has struck! And once again, I want to attempt to revive this lovely event! (It was a whole lot of fun last week!)
Reblog this post if you want people to send you asks about your writing, wip, or characters today! For each ask you get, try and send one back in return!
This event was originally started by @lonely-pages-of-ink and @drist-n-dither, and was a huge, incredibly fun writeblr event when I first joined this community, but has since fallen in participation and awareness. You can read the original info post here!
And don’t feel shy about sending asks to writeblrs you know nothing about—this is a wonderful way to get to know new stories, and make new friends!
