The Underworld in the show just looked so uninspired. When I was a kid I was picturing a goth Wonderland, especially for Persephone’s garden. Idk if they were trying to go for realism which… why? It’s the mythical land of the dead, bring some color into it ffs.

I was also picturing the weird neon town in that one episode of Spongebob where he’s stuck at the bottom of a trench trying to catch the bus.

And I know saying the land of the dead was lifeless sounds weird, but there was a time and a place for hopelessness and that was only Asphodel and even that was, I believe, described as an endless, monocultural wheat field. Not a desert.

The version we got in the TLT movie wasn’t accurate but at least it was inspired. At least it had color, even if it was colored more like Christian Hell than a fantastical Greek Underworld.

The books make it a point that Hades runs a kingdom, the largest realm of any god that will keep on growing where the sky and the sea are finite and that he’s deeply unappreciated for his essential role in his stewardship of the dead. There was absolutely nothing magnificent or evoking of a kingdom in this version of the Underworld.

I could soapbox all day about whatever the DP was smoking to make this fantasy show feel so unfantastical and it starts with the color grading. It felt like it was filmed with an iphone. No extra saturation for the mythical world, no de-saturation for the mortal world. It was one step above studio lighting on a sound stage from one of the Disney Channel sitcoms. No dynamic shots, nothing epic or grand to add momentum to the fight scenes. Just flat, soulless camera work.

I know it will never happen now, but I would have loved to see PJO animated.

Changes are expected when a story is translated from books to the screen, and than there’s whatever the hell the pjo show is doing

Hot take but if an author’s main motivation for a screen adaptation of their book(s) is to do what they wished they had written in the first place, then maybe a screen adaptation shouldn’t be made. People fell in love with what already existed and that’s what they want to see. Isn’t that enough? Anyways, if you like seeing what-if things went differently for stories, fanfiction is right there. There are so many fanfics that do exactly that
