I did not realize now much of the aphverse was stolen from FF. like tu’la is obviously in ref to tu’lia, ru’aun, the music, ro’maeve, zvahl, aaron’s og last name being lomensa, “when angels fall,” and prolly more i’m forgetting

Jess referenced a LOT of stuff in MCD. Most is various Final Fantasy stuff, but there's more too. Just off the top of my head:

A lot of early wyvern lore content involves Skyrim, the language Aphmau speaks to them is the dragon language from Skyrim. According to comments on the episode where she initially speaks the language to them and is taught the phrase "Bo hofkiin, mu saraan," the words mean "fly home, we await" in the Skyrim dragon language. Fitting, since it's a message to the Wyverns to return home to the Wyvern Realm.

Meif'wa's are also initially referred to as Khajiit once or twice, again a Skyrim thing. Werewolves are also initially referred to as Lupines once or twice, not a specific reference to anything I just think it's funny and silly.

90% of the last names are based off areas in FFXI, including Ro'meave, Zvahl, and Valkrum. Tu'la and Ru'aun are also references like you pointed out, to Tu'lia and Ru'aun respectively.

The Yggdrasil forest, aka Elf Land, is also a reference to... Something. The original concept of Yggdrasil originates from Norse mythology, but plenty of other media use the name, including. You guessed it. Final Fantasy. Yggdrasil is used in FFXIV. Didn’t put this with the other locations though because it could just be a coincidence, lots of things use Yggdrasil in their own media tbh. But like. knowing Jess. It could be.

Very likely the concept of the Shadow Lord and the conflict he causes in the initial parts of S1 is on some level inspired by Dark Cloud, a ps2 game which has a lot of songs featured in MCD's soundtrack. Idk much about the game itself and I've been planning to watch a playthrough for a while but I looked up a basic plot summary and the game starts with like a big demonic entity being released on the world that destroys all the villages and shit and hm where have i heard at before *looking at the shadowknights* *looking at the shadowknights* *looking at the shadowknights* *loo

I also know nothing about Okage: Shadow King but. once again it has Shadow King in the name and features on the MCD Soundtrack. so. well. I have my suspicions.

And while we're on the soundtrack stuff, plenty of FF songs from multiple different installments in the series feature in MCD. Most are from FFXI, I believe there's also some from FFVI in there. The S2 opening song, which is also featured in Rebirth, is The Forgotten City / Taznavian Safehold from FFXI. Fun fact.

Theres also an Undertale song in there. Not used much but I remember hearing it like Once in S2 and losing my mind.

Its unintentional, but Laurance's original skin is of Luke fon Fabre from Tales of the Abyss. KC's skin heavily resembles Tokyo Mew Mew. Brendan's skin is Bolin from Legend of Korra, which Jess herself even points out early in the series. Kenmur has a Bajan Canadian face. Laurance and Brendan's skins were both autogenerated by the Minecraft Comes Alive mod, so those weren't Jess's choices. There's probably more I'm not thinking of too. Basically if you ever recognized one of the skins from the early MCD episodes as being from something else, you're probably right.

Basically all the NPCS that populate New Meteli in S2, aside from Cadenza and Ulrich, are characters from FFVII. This includes Vincent, Cloud, Zach, Aerith, Yuffie, and Tifa. The names and skins are the same, and very very basic character concepts/tropes are the same, but not much else beyond that.

I always suspected that Jess giving Vylad an Ocarina was inspired from LOZ, and that was basically confirmed when he used it to play a song from LOZ in S2 Ep61. (It's Stone Tower Temple from Majora's Mask).

Another LOZ thing. The ancient language™ featured on the Irene/Divine Warriors Mural in S2 EP68 is a version of Hylian, most notably used in Ocarina of Time. (The characters don’t translate to anything as far as I can tell though. I’ve tried.)

Menphia is likely a reference to Menphina, who is described on the FFXIV wiki as "a keeper of the moon and the goddess of love." Her full title is Menphina, the Lover. There are other gods with titles you might recongize as well, including Halone the Fury, Oschon the Wanderer, Althyk the Keeper, Rhalgr the Destroyer, and. get this. Nophica the Matron.

And I'm really not a MS fan and I never finished S6 but based off the few screencaps I've seen, they stole heavy elements of the S6 finale from FMA/FMAB lmao.
