Thanks so much for the express mail! Apologies for replying so late -- still working on school stuff. I was quite happy when I saw the news! A romance film for Kamiki at last! Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. :)

Fortuna no Hitomi (2019) starring Kamiki Ryunosuke and Arimura Kasumi
Kamiki Ryunosuke and Arimura Kasumi have been cast in the film ā€œFortuna no Hitomiā€ (Fortuna’s Eye), which is based on a book by Hyakuta Naoki. They will act as lovers.Ā
Kamiki plays Kiyama Shinichiro, a lonely man who mysteriously gained the ability to see through the bodies of those who are about to die. Arimura plays Kiryu Aoi, the lover of Kiyama. However, Kiyama is able to see through Kiryu’s body one day.
Dir. Miki Takahiro (Solanin, Control Tower, Ao Haru Ride, Aozora Yell, Sensei态态态Suki ni Natte mo Ii Desuka?, Sakamichi no Apollon) will direct the film. The film is slated for a 2019 release.Ā
Kamiki and Arimura have previously worked together in:
SPEC franchise (no scenes together, Kamiki as a major villain, Arimura as a side character on the protagonists’ side)
11 Nin mo Iru! (Kamiki as main character and older brother, Arimura as one of his younger siblings)
Sangatsu no Lion duology (Kamiki as main character and younger brother, Arimura as older adoptive sister)
Judging from their interactions, they are close enough to be playfully rude, so at least I’m not worried about them having to adjust to each other since they have worked together many times. The only thing I’m more worried about is Arimura’s acting, which is rather average. The situation might end up with Kamiki steamrolling her once again like he did each time he acted with her.
Last but not least, the joke about this film is that Kamiki has finally gotten a romance project that he has been wishing so hard for.Ā

TV Guide PERSON Vol. 68 9th Apr 2018, feat. Kamiki Ryunosuke
http://www.tvguide.or.jp/news/20180328/p01.html
p.s. Hanyu Yuzuru and Kamiki Ryunosuke in the same magazine. Also, Kamiki voiced the main character Tachibana Taki in Kimi no Na wa, which is one of Uno Shoma’s fave works. Talk about coincidence.

I chuckled a little when I saw how Amazon JP translated the name of HSJ member Yaotome Hikaru (八乙儳光)Ā into ā€œEight Virgo Lightā€ for me in English. Ah, well, you’re not completely wrong, Amazon... XDĀ And Eight Virgo Light is not bad for a nickname, you know ;)

I’m starting this new post and copying some stuff from our oldĀ postĀ here to keep stuff about the same topic in one post. Hope you don’t mind :)
Here’s our previous conversation about Yuto:
@wakaechan:
I’m impressed with Yuto’s acting! Personally, I really enjoyed his performance in Pink and Gray. His skills are not totally up there yet, but I think he has a lot of potential and I look forward to watching his future projects.Ā
@the50-person replied:
Indeed!
Yes, he’s still a work in progress, and it’s a pity that JE focuses most of the resources on Yamada. I’m not against Yamada, just that it’s really a pity because Yuto has the potential and also giving him good resources like they did for Yamada will help him to grow and develop as an actor. In the long-term, that’ll be an investment that will ensure stability as the current generation matures to become the core pillar of JE. It’s better to also spread out the risks and not put eggs all in one basket, and logically speaking, having one more talent with acting and box office potential is better no?
Ā @wakaechan replied:
Yes, I completely agree. God knows how much I love Ryosuke and everyone in HSJ, but I would certainly love to see Yuto getting more opportunities to act, especially in more diverse material. Ryosuke has been doing a broader range of stuff in recent years and I think it really helped him grow. If Yuto can go on a similar path, it strengthens HSJ as a group and also helps with the long-term development of JE. Ah, well, resources are always problematic for idol groups with lots of members, and with nine members HSJ will always be struggling hard in this aspect. Fingers crossed for more resources!Ā
@the50-person replied:
The thing is that Yamada has always been developed as the centre right from the early days. It’s only been recently that Yuto got a bit more spotlight.
And here’s my new reply:Ā
That’s very true. I’m a new fan of HSJ, so I’m not going to pretend that I’m an expert on them, but based on my limited knowledge of their history I do have a lot of frustration about how JE has handled the group since their debut back in 2007. I have nothing against Ryosuke being developed as the center – with such a large group they do need one, and I think Ryosuke’s the right choice and worthy of every job JE has given him. The problem is how they manage other members of the group around Ryosuke, so everyone can work together as a team while highlighting Ryosuke as the center. It should be about developing him to serve as an introductory/entry point to the group and keeping him as a focal point, not throwing every job they can at him and ignoring the development of other members. As a fan of the group, it’s painful to think about how poor Ryosuke was clearly overworked while other members suffered from fragmentary developing opportunities for quite some time. Thankfully, things have been getting much better in recent years, and I’m finally seeing HSJ moving forward as a team.
I think most of their problems occurred in the period a couple years after their debut. They weren't given that much good work in general during that time, and with the stuff they were able to get, like I said above, my impression is their management team didn’t put in enough effort to figure out more clearly which direction(s) each member should be mainly focusing on, so they can allocate different kinds of resources to members who are most fit for a certain job. It almost felt like they simply resorted to giving the best jobs (acting or otherwise) to Ryosuke (and Chinen sometimes) and then rather haphazardly assigning other things to other members. There was also the whole NYC business. I can understand how they wanted to use the popularity of Ryosuke to boost the group, but this strategy won’t work in the long term if they fail to invest in and take risks with other members at the same time. I can also understand how they may have wanted each member to try out a couple of different things to find their strengths, but with nine members it’s logistically impossible to give them that amount of resources for trial and error, so wouldn’t it just be more realistic to do some general planning earlier on about how to develop each member and then adjust along the way if needed? Well, we’ll never know about the inner workings of JE management, so this is just a bunch of thoughts I’m pulling out of my head as an outsider and I could totally be wrong, but in retrospect I really feel like they could have designed a better development strategy for the group over their ten-year career trajectory.
Now at HSJ’s eleventh year it’s good to see how they’ve finally settled at least some members into more focused directions, and the group has been getting more high quality resources in the past few years, so I really hope they can keep this up. They’ve already put Yuto on the actor trajectory, so I’m sure he will be getting more acting opportunities soon. Better late than never, right?

@the50-person replied to the postĀ Idaten: Tokyo Orinpikku Banashi (A Tale of the Tokyo Olympics)…
The original post was getting a little long so I trimmed it, hope you don’t mindĀ :)Ā
Yeah, I’m also just diverting my attention nowadays to not go crazy. I’ve actually fallen deep into the Hey! Say! JUMP pit recently partly because of Kamiki and his harem… It almost felt inevitable in a sense. I mean, look at this:
Loves Kamiki -> watches Tantei Gakuen Q and the first episode of Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo N for KamikiĀ -> also falls in love with Yamada Ryosuke in the process -> stumbles deep into the Hey! Say! JUMP pit…
Loves Dori -> watches HOPE and Yowakutemo Katemasu for Dori -> also falls in love with Nakajima Yuto in the processĀ -> stumbles deep into the Hey! Say! JUMP pit…
Loves Oryo -> watchesĀ Water Polo Yankees for Oryo -> also falls in love with Nakajima Yuto and Takaki YuyaĀ in the processĀ -> stumbles deep into the Hey! Say! JUMP pit…
LOL this was my experience anyway. There isĀ of course some degree of coincidence in here, but my impression isĀ Kamiki does seems like a central node in this vast network of Japanese young actors/idols, and by admiring and following his work and the work of those around him, you can expand your knowledge of young Japanese talents very easily in a short span of time.Ā
Anyway, that was kind of off topic, so once again let’s keep our fingers crossed for some Kamiki news soon!

Mine too! I've been watching this on repeat and it gets me every time. I love how the story is so layered and rich without losing a beautiful sense of simplicity. It delivers so much in such a short amount of time.Ā

SEKAI NO OWARIć€Œć‚µć‚¶ćƒ³ć‚«ć€MV starring Kamiki Ryunosuke as the younger brother (Sayama Hanato)
SEKAI NO OWARI’s latest MV for their new songć€Œć‚µć‚¶ćƒ³ć‚«ć€(Sazanka) stars Kamiki Ryunosuke as the younger brother who is an aspiring artist suffering from a case of artist’s block.
The MV is more of a short film, with a story revolving around the heartwarming relationship of two brothers.
Food is the main plot device in the story, acting asĀ
a representation of the brothers’ bond
a display of conflictĀ
a heartwarming resolution.Ā

Thanks so much for all this awesome info about Kamiki’s gigantic social circle! Yeah, I absolutely agree with how his long and fruitful career, wonderful personality, and outstanding social skills are a large part of why he’s a central node in the Japanese talent circle. And this surely is a really nice plus side to following his work, since we get to know a lot of other talents from various areas as well as different generations along the way. :)
