hi I’m the one who plays the card based roguelike (ecaflip) and gives @kallyico 200% crit and dmg bonus.

as someone who’s played wakfu, but also played waven quite a bit, I think waven is fine as game. I think it’s unfair to compare waven to wakfu, since it it’s own thing... they have very different gameplay. The nice thing about waven is that it’s more casual, but still has interesting depth to it; I made several characters just out of the joy to test out new mechanics.

as a successor to the Dofus and wakfu mmo? Eh. Narratively, it feels more in line with the universe of the series rather than the previous mmos, so from the get go the target audience is people who like the transmedia. The story is overall, enjoyable. It lacks some of oomf that Dofus and wakfu mmo stories bring, but I don’t think this is what it is trying to do. And as a mobile game, I think it’s quite good for one.

but also they announced it’s gonna get reworked in a pretty big way so who knows how it’s gonna end up. Probably not a good time to try out waven, current waven as it is is at deaths door, but I think it’s worth checking out when it re-releases.

honestly i have never tried waven even though ive been meaning to haha. ive liked the wakfu mmo and wanted to get back into it at some point but i am afraid of not getting my account back haha.

Okay last post for now because I got a few things coming up irl and I realized that my brain is weird about stuff and cannot deal with several things at the same time. Hate to be doing the most slow and irregular liveblog known to man, but hey, I’d rather fumble this than very important life things!

hey, so remember the prophecy?

It seems like the Ogrest Cult is aware of it, and trying to safeguard any funny looking trinkets from the prying hands of pesky adventures (else some bad fate could befall their Ogrest). They are trying to prevent the forming of a PC. Their plan’s execution is a classic rookie fumble. If I were to hide some sort of powerful power or artifact or like the legacy of the gods or some shit, I’m just spitballing here, I would have put it in some very obtuse place nigh inaccesible to mortals and hidden the answer of its location in some very other very far away and harrowing to get to locations. I would then erase my own memory, and then, unburdened by the past, spend my days being the funniest NPC a quest has ever known. But that’s just me.

Funnily enough, it seems like main PCs motivation here is vengeance rather than heroic aspiration.

Which, makes sense. PC has only memories of how long they’ve lived, and they’ve lived barely. It is easy to hold a grudge if even 4% of your total memory of everything that has happened to you so far involved getting flung down the sewer by a creature named grambo.

PC is a very prideful creature in these quests (and we love that for her. I support her) as seen with them seeing themselves capable of taking on a dragon in Rii, and incessantly complaining that they were worthy of more that just a lowly Rat Quest. To be tossed away like trash is not good for her. When I was little I thought that if a thick tree trunk fell on me I could just… move it away effortlessly. No tree fell on me to prove me wrong. PC at these stages exudes that child-like belief of being invincible. Maybe there aren’t too many confirmed incarnates hanging around because they have the wisdom of a kid yet the agency of a fully formed being that won’t be stopped by a parent if it wants to wrestle a dragon. (But PC did and she survived sooo….)

Okay whatever, I'll spill:

There's an area in Zinit called shneck cave, which hosts creatures very similar in appearance to Donalangelo (and Donalangelo himself will be reffered to as a shneck in the future by a character, so we have no doubt that he is just a sligtly greener shneck, on account of the TMNT reference).

Governing them is the Shneck Queen, a lovely lady that is a boss of the area.

To beat her, you must give her a little kiss. (Don't worry about it). But first you must become a sexy shneck yourself to suit her fancies. The way to do it is to step into some sort of weird milk liquid that will metamorphosize you into a shneck for a brief time (Don't worry about IT!!!).

Now, if you interpret Donalangelo's line as saying that he was a non shneck before, was born and hanging around in Zinit for some reason, and fought Ogrest and was punted up to here and woke up in a strange liquid. That strange liquid could very much be the Queen Shneck's milk. Which has already shown to have shneck turning properties. And he mistakenly attributes this metamorphosis to a divine intervention when really, it was just the Shneck Queen doing him a solid before he got got out of Zinit.

BUT WAIT! The french text has an interesting difference: Donalangelo doesn't say the line where he praises the gods ("Then the gods - oh praise them!"), he merely states that the gods gave him a second chance.

(This doesn't change things too much besides making Donalangelo come across as less zealous, but do you see what I mean by the english translation always diverging in some weird way?)

BUT there's a small problem here. The text is kinda vague about whether he was a non-shneck before. And why the hell was he hanging around in Zinit? I know that he states that it was before Ogrest came along to where he was, but again, what?? But you know who we know does hang around in Zinit? The shnecks.

You could interpet it as Donalangelo being some sort of regular shneck that encountered Ogrest and tried to fight the threat (maybe to protect some Shneck Queen?). He was unsucessful but as a reward for his bravery (or for shits and giggles) the gods gave him the gift of turning into some sort of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Shneck. This does align more with the origin of said turtles where they used to be normal pet turtles (or something. idk dont @ me, I'm not TMNT-weekly am I?).

For the longest time I interpreted it as him being turned into a Shneck, but maybe I am wrong? What’s the truth... Or was there no transformation in the first place, and the only godly part was the entrusting of the sewers?

I love this part at the end because we are not going to go to the kitchens actually. We are going to go to a larva´s nest for ingredients for a pizzzarva instead.

This is probably outdated dialogue because there IS a kitchen related quest / minigame, though that is now part of the mercenary quests of the area.

In the original French (and Spanish and Portuguese, most of the time too), gendered words will differ depending on the character you are playing. In this situation, the english translation doesn't give a fuck and geniuously opts to call your character it instead.
