well the votes are in so i shall start posting studies here :D and up first, we have these egrets based on a wonderful picture by @sandpaperoctopi (og picture under the cut)

The Oilwing Rurebe is a species of flying myriapod, like the Bachi, that lives in wetlands. Its bright colors warns potential predators of its very foul taste. If something is still getting too close for its taste despite that, it will begin vibrating its wings; they have shifting, rainbow colors on them, like the slight coat of oil from decomposing leaves on puddles. When they do that, the sudden show of changing colors tends to startle the threat, at least long enough for the Rurebe to fly away.

Should I post non-okali art?

Hey everyone! I've been wondering something ; would you all be interested if i posted some art that's not directly related to okali? Stuff like my study sketches, plein air, etc... I'm thinking a "#graphi's studies" tag for when i draw from life or from my own photos, and "#via iNaturalist" for when i draw from pretty pictures I find on the iNaturalist website :)

The lobuut is a hardy animal that lives in the coastal areas of Omikti's breath. They use their strong paws and large tusks to overturn rocks or dig in the beach to find crustaceans or seashells, which they crush with their powerful molars. It's not all they eat though, they also eat seaweed and are scavengers on occasion, often taking over large carcasses by driving away smaller animals from it. They excel in environments with quicksand, which they have no problem traversing thanks to their thick, heavy tails keeping their weight spread out over a large area.

They are domesticated and used as beasts of burden and livestock within the Rain Ravine. Domesticated lobuutu have smaller horns than their wild counterparts, but keep the large tusks as people have trained them to catch and retrieve crustaceans along the coasts and the riverbanks. Though they are poor swimmers, their heavyset build and ability to hold their breath for a long time lets them traverse waters by trudging along the bottom without needing to truly swim.

some colors/breeds of Nakulla! pink is the most common color for them, but there's variety. Piebald and brindle stripes are pretty common and found across all colors!

WO Game Update

This week, I got some more work done on the various backgrounds and CGs, many of which are now in a state of being only "unfinished" because I haven't pressed the "save a png copy" button, so pretty darn close to being officially done. I also started detailed work on the notes for one of the species encountered this chapter, which you can see above :3c

The plikelo is a species of kulla that lives in tree hollows and other such crevices. They mostly fly in short bursts, though their hindwings allow them to glide nicely on the hot air currents above some patches of magic-using mushrooms that grow in their habitats, which lets them reach higher trees with little effort. The tip of their muzzle is a hard beak, with which they pierce through the bark of trees before lapping up the sugary sap.

continuing slight redesigns of oldie goldies! the akusel is a small hardy kulla that lives in cold conifer forests in the northern hemisphere, both on Omikti's Breath and Eskor's peace. They have a varied diet and are fierce defenders of their territories, which are occupied by small groups of about a dozen akuselu.

a bit of fashion!

this type of bell-sleeve that only stops at the fingertips is common for phériu in the hotter seasons all around Omikti's Breath. They're a comfortable item, made with light fabric such a silk. They're often sewn onto a small top which has attachments for accessories or work items (pictured here are some sewing supplies), and all that is worn over either a wrapped garment or a sleeveless buttoned tunic. It's a kind of clothes to wear to lounge around, maybe do small manual activities, but not much more.

So, they are not domesticated per say, but people are quite aware of their migration patterns and potential to aid in the spread of plants, so it's common to use them to sort of "tailor" environments to their benefit. You see, what plants grow on them will depend on what seeds a female eats during pregnancy, so when it's that time, they are lured with food filled with seeds of edible plants/cultivars of nearby wild species so that they may spread those out in the wild, basically setting up some wild agriculture.

a slight redesign of the Olwo, an ungulate which grows plants on itself. It has large, thick legs to support the weight of the plants, a long tail with fine, long fur, and a vividly colored patch of fur on its throat.

They use the plants growing on them as both camouflage, a source of food, and a way to stock magic. While most hardy enough species will take root in an olwo, some are specialized for this.

Due to the movement of herds, they are an important part of spreading seeds around in the parts of the world where they live.
