“Photographers tend not to photograph what they can’t see, which is the very reason one should try to attempt it. Otherwise we’re going to go on forever just photographing more faces and more rooms and more places. Photography has to transcend description. It has to go beyond description to bring insight into the subject, or reveal the subject, not as it looks, but how does it feel?”
— Duane Michals (via garygraphy)

JONATHAN CHERRY: What did you want to be growing up?
WARREN SEBASTIEN: I remember growing up I wanted to be an athlete or work with animals in a zoo
JC: Who or what is inspiring you at the moment?
WS: Walks around my town and the photos that I didn’t get. The possibility of the photos I could take & the knowing I can. Nature is always inspiring the change of the seasons. Music inspires me a lot too. Photography, art wise I get inspired by a lot of collage work lately especially John turck & recently discovered Guy Bolongaro’s & Chris Verene’s who’s work I really enjoy.
JC: What are you up to right now?
WS: Looking at the different avenues I can take in photography with regards to my approach & projects, unravelling the puzzles with the current photos I have with regards to creating a series & maybe a small book in the near future
JC: Have you had mentors along the way?
WS: None. Only myself
JC: Where are you based right now and how is it shaping you?
WS: I’m based in Brighton, England. its a great place to be as a creative person & connect with others
JC: One piece of advice to photography graduates?
WS: Hard to say as I’ve never taken any photography course. Find your inspiration and immerse yourself in it as much as you can. Do it for yourself first & make it personal
JC: If all else fails - what is your plan B?
WS: There’s no reason for me to fail. Photography is one of my hobbies, a release & creative outlet. It serves as a second income from time to time which I am very grateful for & that suits me fine. I never approached photography with the idea to make money.
JC: Is it important to you to be a part of a creative community?
WS: Haven’t really been a part of one myself. I’m sure it is. Finding a few friends to obsess over things with. I have a couple friends who have gone a similar path I’d like to take with my photography so I’m always grateful for their input & knowledge.
