Interviewer: So you've announced that you're doing your own streaming platform correct? What's going to change really you know? Ryan: For Ghost Files, I mean it's kind of the thing that's going to allow us to take bigger swings like we did this season, like going international, upgrading some of our kit, and just overall making the show better and more sustainable behind the scenes 'cuz it's a really hard show to make. And then as far as like other series it's going to allow us to make those a little bit better but also allow us to make new series in general, and also bring on new faces to the to the channel that we haven't previously been able to. YouTube is like a little bit of a harder place sometimes for that kind of content to survive…sometimes if something isn't getting the proper amount of views that it would need it wouldn't survive perhaps in that environment but on a different environment, perhaps our own platform, then maybe it will have a better chance and now that we have both it'll allow us to, I guess, really give everything a try. But really more than anything it's just about improving things across the board and then taking bigger risks on our shows.

Watcher TV Update
For anyone who missed Watcher's update yesterday, they've made some changes and this is how the Watcher TV platform will now function:
Moving forward, shows will premiere on Watcher TV and be viewable there for subscribers, ad-free, for a month.
Shows will then be posted to their regular YouTube channel to be seen for free.
If you purchased a Watcher TV subscription and would now like a refund, you can request one.
All past episodes and series will remain on YouTube.
Current Watcher Patreon members will be given free subscription codes for the new platform, and may contact Watcher for refunds if they've already purchased a subscription.
Moving Forward
The Wiki mods are keeping their platform subscription and will be aware of episode spoilers, but will not post any here nor on the main blog.
Until the episodes premiere on YouTube any blog details will be kept vague (episode numbers and titles only). No trivia, easter eggs, or lore will be discussed until it's been posted to YouTube.
Ryan, Shane, and some of the crew are currently in the UK for Ghost Files Live shows and filming more content, so please be patient when reaching out to Watcher staff with your questions/refund requests.
Apologies for not posting yesterday. Mod illness & tech failures. Basically it was a busy day. Thank you to all our followers for being patient through this.

Note
What do you guys think about the changes? What was your reaction and how will you be moving forward now that new content is locked behind a pay wall? I can’t find any personal accounts linked, otherwise I would just ask directly.
Thanks for the message. Sorry we didn't get to it yesterday, because well, *waves hand*. Reaction amongst the mods has been mixed, so coming to a consensus on a few things is still in development, and might change as we receive any updates from Watcher's social media.
We're excited to see what the new content could be, but also sympathize with fans who feel priced out or unable to pay because they live in a country that doesn't have a usable payment method or high conversion rate. That's something we hope Watcher is able to see through all the other messages and address soon.
This announcement might hinder some additions we wanted to make to the wiki, but it's not a resource the fandom is utilizing (as far as we know). We'll probably continue to track a few things for the shows over there, as far as listing episode titles or adding details to our maps. Luckily, all the existing YouTube Playlists will still be available for re-watches. Watcher's Instagram stories will continued to be archived here on tumblr. But we won't be sharing full streaming episodes or things like that on this blog.
We are privileged enough to be able to subscribe to Watcher TV, and fortunate enough to share among the mods. Hopefully fans who want to see the upcoming content, but feel it's outside their budget, will be able to share or get a gifted sub. We know that's not a cure-all solution, but trying to stay somewhat neutral as this situation develops. As you mentioned, our personal blogs aren't attached to this one. That's so we have an outlet to talk about how we feel and process our emotions without it getting in the way of what this blog is - an archival tool.

The night before Watcher's big Announcement
4/18/24; no spoilers here. Just a bit of reflection.
12 years ago, I started blogging on this Tumblr page to capture my feelings and where I was at. Even though so much has changed, it also feels like nothing at all has changed. Back then, I was a kid from Ohio just trying to make a living off YouTube. At the time, I didn't even know how to operate a camera, how to act on screen, or even how to edit a video. But I knew that I loved the process of making videos, and that propelled me day by day.
When I started making YouTube videos in 2012, I gave myself 4 years before I'd call it quits. 4 years to make a living or I'd reconsider and find a different career path. Looking back, I didn't realize how close I cut it. But it really wasn't until 3 years in that I made a hit. And I thank God every day because it was some combination of luck, hard work. and divine intervention that somehow someway led me to work at BuzzFeed, create Worth It, meet Ryan and Shane, launch Watcher, and well.. the rest is history.
That being said, I'm at a crossroads here again. Tomorrow is kind of a big day for me and our team. It's nerve-wracking to take risks at this stage of my career and company's life. Who knows where things will go? Will we succeed or will we fall flat on our face? I truly don't know. But no matter what, I just wanted to take this time to dwell in a place of gratitude. Thank you to all the people who have supported my career, team Watcher, and the shows we make. I can't believe this is my job that I get to wake up and do every single day. Speaking of job, thank you to my team at Watcher, I love you and am so grateful for all of you. I can't believe how hard you all work day in and day out to make the beautiful videos and shows that we do. Thank you to my wife, thank you to my family and friends, thank you to our investors/mentors, and thank you to God.
For some reason this journal entry came out like an acceptance speech at the People's Choice Awards. Whoops. I honestly don't even know what I wanted to get across when I started writing but that's it for now. Tomorrow's a big day and I don't know what this means for myself or for Watcher's. But what I do know is that it's been the best five years of my life building Watcher and I thank God every day for that.
See you on the other side,
Steven
