i am a Sucker for scenarios where someone encounters their younger/other self and has the opportunity to give them the compassion and understanding they haven't received.
but I am also, and possibly even more, a Sucker for scenarios where someone encounters their younger/other self and uses it as an opportunity to externalize absolutely horrifying levels of self-loathing

Self sacrifice in an "i can take it; you can't" way X self sacrifice in an "you can take it; and i know i can't, but it'd rather this than letting you through it" way X self sacrifice in an "neither of us can take it. it doesn't matter, 'cause its gonna be me" way

Have you considered: punishing whumpees for involuntary actions?
Threaten to cut out their tongue if they scream. Then hurt them until they do.
Tell them you'll kill the friend they were captured with if they fall asleep. See how long they can force themselves to stay awake.
Force water down their throat and wait. When they piss themselves, rub their face in it like a puppy.
Cut them, then punish them for bleeding all over the floor. Make them lick it up - wouldn't want them to inconsiderately leave bloodstains on your nice clean floor, after all.
Tell them they can earn food and water by staying perfectly still. Then give them an electric shock.
With your hands around their throat, order them to keep their attention on you. Choke them until they pass out. When they wake up, break a couple of fingers as punishment for letting their attention waver.

“Why am I lying down?”
“Because you’re bleeding.”
“I can bleed sitting up.”
“I’m trying to prevent you from going into shock.”
“I don’t think it’s working.”
“I know. Shut up.”

A vampire basically having to be an amazing Caretaker to their blood source because human blood tastes so much better (and maybe more nutritious just for fun) if the human is well fed, happy, calm, ect. Maybe the human wants to stay with the vampire, because honestly this is so much better than their life used to be. They don't have to stress about anything, the food's the best they've ever eaten and they barely ever have to feel scared or sad anymore.
Bonus: The human had a condition that made it much more difficult for them to live life before, whether mental or physical.

“From now on, you have no responsibilities, no stress. I understand if you need to keep fighting, though. You need to feel like this is completely out of your control, or else you’ll feel guilty for resting. It’s alright. Fight until you’re satisfied that there’s no escape. I won’t take it personally.”

"You don't have to feel this way anymore," the whumper cooed, holding the whumpee's head in their hands.
The whumpee whimpered softly, weakly struggling against their captor's grip, hands tied tightly behind their back.
"Tell me what I need to know," the whumper stroked their thumb across the whumpee's cheek, "I don't want to hurt you."
Tears trickled down the whumpee's face, "you... you're lying."
The whumpee stared back at them, eyes unblinking, "You're smart."

"I never could have survived that. Everything you went through… I'm not that strong."
"Of course you fucking could have. Strength has nothing to do with it. I survived because they didn't fucking kill me. It's not like I had any say in the matter."

(Directly in front of whumpee)
“Whumper,” says Carewhumper, grabbing Whumper’s forearm to hold them back. “Hey.”
“They’ve got to learn,” Whumper says while maintaining eye contact with Whumpee, their singular focus. “Let go of me.”
“No. You need to cool off. We’ll deal with this later.”
Whumper narrows their eyes at Carewhumper, a grin spreading over their face. “Are you protecting them now? Really?”
“Only because your viciousness is getting a reputation for itself. They’ll be punished, but not by you. Not while you’re like this.”
“By who then? You?”
Carewhumper locks eyes with scared Whumpee. “Yes. By me.”

prim and proper dignified characters pale, sickly, weak on their feet. unbuttoning their collar, sweat-soaked hair, unsure footing and fluttery breaths. muttering a hesitant, "I don't... feel well."

I think we as a community underestimate how truly terrifying it is to be stuck/restrained, and the panic response that comes with it. I got my hand lodged in a tight place, and while it was very simple to get it unstuck, it wasn't as easy as a simple slip. It was scary just to have my hand stuck of my own actions, while knowing how to get it unstuck.
So imagine the terror that ensues when it's your entire body, restrained by someone who wants to do you harm. Plus, the panic that comes as as result causes you to pull or fight against whatever it is that has you, which is painful. Trying to tug and force your way out of a situation will only cause you to hurt and become even more panicked when it doesn't work. Just. We need to describe that terror more I think.

Whumpee watches the whumper with a sense of curiosity. Yes, there is dread, there is always dread.
But there is something else underneath. Something the whumper is unaware of.
A sense of want.
A sharp toothed smile hidden by pain.
Were that the whumpee could be in the whumper's position instead.
Whumper is beautiful. And they would be more beautiful, splintering and breaking under the whumpee's hands.

They do it on a whim. Not planned, not even thought about.
A hand reaches up. Fingers press against the whumper's cheek. A moment of realization. A dreadful mix of horror and pity.
The whumper blinks. Startled. Eyes narrowing. The anger trails off, interrupted by whumpee's gesture.
The whumpee smiles. A bloody, wounded smile. The bruise on their cheek aches.
The whumper pulls away in discomfort. Eyes averted. Teeth half-bared, but the bite is gone.
It's pathetic, whumpee thinks, watching their tormentor all but run away from such a simple gesture.
