Roxas scoffed with an eye roll,

“Truly a man with personality.” Talking about Xemnas had been. . .well easier than expected. The ‘boss’ was somewhat of a sore spot for him. After all, he’d been through a lot of pain just because of that one person. And all his friends who had been hurt. . .well the past is the past. Roxas shook off his thoughts and returned to the question at hand,

“Well…to be honest there’s a lot of new for me currently. So adding three more to the hurdle hasn’t been too overwhelming,” There’s a warm smile across his face as he spoke, “I have so many questions, but I don’t know what I should ask first…” Roxas shifted to cross his legs and better face Ventus. If this was going to become a full-on talk he wanted to be comfortable,

“I wanna know about your home I guess. What was is like training to use the Keyblade? And how you met Aqua and Terra? Or I guess how did you become friends?” He could feel a rush of other questions just on the tip of his tongue but he stayed quiet. Honestly, he needed to relax. The insatiable curiosity Roxas had needed to be taken down a peg or two eventually…

“Home? Well... For a while. it was all I knew! Training, goofing off with those two... Hoping Master Eraqus didn’t catch Terra and I doing anything too dumb... It was nice. Every day was a lesson. Something new to learn! It wasn’t easy.”

He turns as well. The conversation was turning out more more interestingly than the sunset, for the moment.

“In fact, I bet lots of the others couldn’t take it!!” Ven laughs, crossing his arms in an almost playful manner. “Or... Not. Yeah they’d probably do fine... The lessons and exercises were just... what we did, I guess. Learning about light and our duty to defend it. The world order... Still though, responsibilities or not, it was nice. Simple, back then. Everything I ever really wanted was just... down the hall! As for Aqua and Terra... I didn’t know how I met them until later.”

He thinks for a moment... How do you explain this..? Ah well... Here goes. “Before I trained with Master Eraqus, I was Xehanort’s pupil. Uh... Yeah. Bad start, I know. But at the time, nobody knew he was trouble! I... don’t remember much, but the training was brutal. It was all about embracing rage and darkness, and crushing enemies... I think, even then, he was setting me up to form that weapon. The X-Blade... Maybe to fight Aqua or Terra for it? I don’t know. Eventually, it was too much. There was a whole horde of heartless. I remember begging for help. Saying that I wasn’t ready... But he just watched. Eventually... They got me. My heart was being overrun by darkness... So Xehanort split me in two. Forcefully pulled that darkness out. That’s what Vanitas is...”

He trails off, but shakes his head. This wasn’t even the question he’d been asked! “That’s when I met Sora for the first time. I didn’t really know it, but his heart reached out to mine. He gave me some of his light, so I wouldn’t lose anything else. After that, I guess I wasn’t as dead as Xehanort thought. But he didn’t want to train me anymore? So he took me to Master Eraqus. Terra and Aqua were already there. I was really out of it, so I don’t remember much about the beginning. But eventually, we got to be pretty close friends. Training alongside each other, and laughing together!! Lots of stargazing. How about you? Xion and Axel, right? How’d you guys start out?? And get this close?!”

The story Ventus had just shared was a heavy one, true. But... Oddly enough, he didn’t seem to mind. He felt Roxas would understand, even if that didn’t make much sense. And he really did wonder about the other’s friends. He has his own curiosity in this!!

Theory Time

Having looked into this more, I THINK I get it. A little. Okay so. The Missing Ache originally debued in Days, but I think for this we’ll have to look at things chronologically. The running theory is that because his keyblade signifies emptiness and possibly a loss of memory, Ventus was the one that killed Strelitzia. Does that seem like a stretch to anyone else? I mean, a different keyblade is hardly a reason to suspect someone of murder. I’m not even COMPLETELY sure it IS a different keyblade. More on that later.

We all know that the Ventus we see in KHUX is a different version of the same character than the one in Birth By Sleep. The primary difference is that KHUX takes place before Xehanort split him into light, (the Ven we know) and darkness (Vanitas.) This has nothing to do with his keyblade, however, because we see him with the Wayward Wind just before Xehanort split him in two.

I’ve also heard that people think he has a form of schizophrenia, and that perhaps the “”Vanitas”” in him killed the poor girl. But at this point in the story, he’s not two people in one body. He’s just normal. He has his light and darkness, just like everyone else. Vanitas was not personified until he was, to quote Xehanort, “from Ventus riven”. So blaming Vanitas for anything in Khux seems unlikely to me. Though! It is worth noting that Vanitas was unharmed after the split, while Ventus was comatose. Possibly alluding to more darkness having been present in Ven’s heart to begin with? But this doesn’t make him a murderer either. That could also be simply the fact that darkness is more present in the world as a whole. Singular. There’s not as much light as there is darkness anymore. Kairi’s grandmother’s story explains as much. The light left in the hearts of children was the last light left.

Though, Kairi’s story COULD be the events of KHUX. Though, that’s a theory for another day. Back on track. The Missing Ache. The keyblade is actually obtainable in the game itself. The same way any of the much more friendly-looking keyblades are. It is very possible that we WERE looking at the Wayward Wind, the same way we’re looking at the Kingdom Key instead of the Grand Chef in Kingdom Hearts 3. Keyblades, since the very beginning of the series, have been cosmetically changeable. Via Keychains! And the Missing Ache is a keyblade that we KNOW to be accessible in that time. That keychain is obtainable not just by Ventus, but by the player as well. Is it so hard to believe that a union leader would have access to at LEAST the same upgrades we do?

And yes, Ventus was worried about Brain/Blaine. And I’ll tell you why. At least, to my best understanding of his character. Ventus, when he’s first meeting the other union leaders, mentions he doesn’t have any friends. This group became his first. Anyone who’s played Birth By Sleep knows all three of the Wayfinder Trio values friendship above just about anything. And with the tower glitching out in that way, would it really be far fetched for someone to be worried? Ventus also has this habit of... gravitating towards people. You see it in BBS with Terra. He’s VERY defensive, and believes in the guy to... a bit of an extreme. Possibly more than warranted. If Blaine/Brain got close enough to him, what’s to say he didn’t get the same treatment?

In short, this update didn’t give enough information to point fingers just yet. If you want my views on the traitor, let me know! Replies, messages, whatever. Maybe I’ll make a post on that too. I’d be lying if I said traitor!Ventus wouldn’t be interesting to explore, but I still doubt it to be the case. But! This is just my two cents. If you have a different idea, let me know! I’d love to theorize.

This is all just speculation, though. We’ll have to wait for more updates to know for sure.

Tiptoeing into the grass where notice ventus staring at trees, pete aimed at the blonde, trigger finger ready. He had to be cautious, one wrong move and the whole operation would be blown to pieces. Still, the impatient feline continued on until he was within close range. Raising his water gun, the commander of heartless let loose a few squirts of water before scrambling back with a smirk. "Gotcha!" you may ask why he had an water gun well he stole it for this occasion

Where was he..? Ventus stares out at the treeline, blue eyes hyper-focused. It was a huge cat of all things! The keybearer is armed, but not with the Wayward Wind. He’s got a supersoaker, and a vengeance.

Wait. Footsteps? No, it can’t be- Too late. The water hits the back of his head, dripping down his back, under the collar of his shirt and jacket. “Hey!!” He calls, turning on a dime. He lets loose with the water gun, aiming at the rather large target.“Take that!!”

her attention was solely focused on the dandelion in her hands, twirling the stem around as if it were a comforting movement. she paused, before blowing the seeds off, watching them float away with the winds. ❝ i .. actually, i wanted to gather you all and discuss further what would happen. after - after the war, i suppose. a strategy, some way for you to find each other if somehow things go awry. ❞

it wasn’t as if she expected anything to go wrong, but she was not one to let them gounprepared. they were the future of the world, and it was her duty to make them ready to face what was to come.

He feels his cheeks redden. She saw right through him! Well... She was one of the foretellers, after all. He doubted he could really hide something from someone who was said to be so wise.

His eyes leave the plant in her hand, moving up to her mask-covered face. Something frightening enough to make a Keyblade Master unsure? This war was the real thing alright. Ven could feel the pit in his stomach growing, but he nods! At a time like this, supporting their leaders was about all the average keybearer could do.

“A strategy? That’d be nice. I haven’t even met the others you’ve given the rulebooks to... Or even really know their names! I’ve... no idea how to find them.”

“Did you have some idea?” The blonde decides to... tactfully leave out the fact that he hasn’t even opened that book yet... He will! ... Later.
