happy earth day!
here's some ways you can be a little nicer to the planet
*if i need to edit something, or add something, or you have a better idea, ect, politely comment it please! i like feedback, and i'm just tryin to make the world a slightly more okay place
-use reusable cups for your drinks!
-hang birdhouses and bat-boxes! if you can also provide bird seed, birdbaths, and other stuff for your outdoor buddies, i encourage you to do so!
-feed squirrels and pigeons and crows and ducks and stuff! (if you're okay with them coming back :} if not, feed em at parks)
-don't vote for republicans!
-use a water bottle!
-wear a CLOTH MASK!
-wash your clothes with cold water!
-do your own independent research! don't just take whatever people are saying at face value; if you want to find out the truth, the easiest way to do this is by educating yourself
-try to walk places instead of driving!
-if you're getting things like fruits and veggies at the store, bring a reusable bag to put them in, instead of using those thin plastic ones
-do your best! i know it's hard to be super environmentally cautious, especially if you're low income, ESPECIALLY during COVID, but if you can't afford to directly change your lifestyle (which is unfortunately common) vote for change! find out inexpensive ways to help! advocate for environmental change! eat the rich!
-support small businesses!
-use bar soap!
-COMPOST! this goes double if you're a plant parent! you can buy or build a composter (indoors and outdoors, odor free), add some soil, get some worms, and compost things like coffee grounds, stems, old fruit, plant and animal based things, ect!
-try not to use amazon so much! it impacts the environment (yes, i'm aware some of these links are to amazon, i just don't know where you live and what you can get; if you can find local alternatives, or even order from a more environmentally friendly place, DO SO!)
-reuse glass jars, coffee cans, ect, for things like planters, organizers, projects, and so on!
-try to minimize how much you eat pre-packaged food. your body and the planet will thank you
-if you can, get reusable straws! these little dudes minimize how much single use plastic you use
-don't clean w/like, bleach and really harsh chemicals unless necessary! don't put them down the drain!
-on that note, try not to use single-use plastic! if your school/work only provides plastic ware, try to bring your own from home
-if you DO have to use single-use stuff, try to use paper and cardboard products
-recycle your k-cup pods, your drink lids, your coke bottles, your aluminum foil, etc. check your city's recycling policies so you know what to recycle
-donate old clothes! try to thrift shop! some of my fave clothes came from thrift shops
-if your city has a plato's closet, go there for trendy, high-quality, brand name, second-hand clothes. i got a pair of perfect condition vans from there for twenty dollars!
-try to minimize how much meat, fish, and animal products you use. meat and dairy takes tons of water, food, and space to produce, and creates waste and methane, so the less you create a market for it, the better
-again, don't vote for republicans!! i would say to vote for people who are focused on solving the environmental crises, but do your own independent research!

REFUSE ♻️
Don’t be afraid to refuse things in an effort to protect the environment. And don’t be hard on yourself if you forget every now and then. The more you practice this, the more it will become habit. Here are some suggestions of things you can easily refuse:
STRAWS: “I’ll have a water with no straw please”, easy peasy!
PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL: Flyers, pamphlets, business cards. If you really want one, try taking a photo instead
SAMPLES: Samples at stores that come in single use plastics or containers that you would throw out right away, try to avoid. (also hotel shampoos, beauty product samples, food samples, etc)
DENTIST GIVEAWAYS: My dentist always kindly offers me a little plastic bag filled with floss in a plastic holder, a plastic toothbrush and a little plastic bottle of toothpaste. I always respectfully decline and use my own zero waste alternatives
GIFTS: It’s ok to say no if someone try’s to gift you something that is wasteful and you don’t want. I know it can be awkward, so use your own judgement or regift / donate
DISPOSABLE COFFEE CUPS: Bring a reusable mug if you know you’ll be out stopping for tea or coffee
PLASTIC CUTLERY, NAPKINS AND SAUCES: Ordering takeout? Ask if the server can not put these things in your takeout bag and bring your own reusable swaps
PLASTIC PACKAGING: Ordering something online? If you are able to, contact the sender and ask for no plastic packaging
Anything I forgot? Leave a comment 👇

Why did I decide to use bamboo toothbrushes?
I’m reducing the use of plastic at home
Bamboo handles are naturally antimicrobial and biodegradable
They are as effective as plastic and electric toothbrushes
They are organic while having good quality and design
Plastic toothbrushes are really difficult to recycle
All plastic toothbrushes you ever used are still out there!
