This semester brought up a brand new wave of professors who would rather waste 2 hours vertue signaling than just do their job at the risk of not being appreciated on a personal level by their students.
Go girl, give us nothing, academic edition, I guess.

Getting to the point where I know people won't know how to pronounce my name when I meet them, but still expecting the ones closest to me to make the effort to learn how to say it and being disappointed when it doesn't happen.
I have lived for more than a year with my roommates. This has been a full year of seeing my name written on the cleaning schedule, hearing me say it to introduce myself when they bring people over. They still get it wrong.
This boy I met asked me for an audio message of me pronouncing my name, so he could learn to say it properly. I have known him for three months, he has yet to mispronounce it.
Learning is caring.

becoming a better student ₊˚⊹♡

Prepare for your classes ˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆
Wake up on time. We don't want to be stressed first thing in the morning, right?
Eat breakfast. So you will be able to better focus in class.
Assigned reading and homework. Make sure you are prepared for your classes!! :)
Review your notes. Going through some of your flashcards before class is really helpful.
Check your bag and charge your devices. Ensure you have everything you need: Books, homework, chargers, pens, water...

In Class ˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆
Listen and pay attention. You can save yourself a lot of trouble by simply paying attention, trust me.
Take notes. My favourite note-taking method is the Cornell method; I can make a separate post on that!! <3
"Quick notes." If you struggle with note-taking, try taking quick and messy notes. You can clean them up once you get home!!
Engage. If you have any questions or don't understand something, make sure to ask!! Most teachers really appreciate students who speak up. :)
No distractions. Turn off your phone, no chatting, you'll be glad...

After class ˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆
Finish your assignments as soon as you can. Go home, put on a cosy outfit, have a snack, and get working!! <3
Prepare flash cards. A great way of reviewing your notes, too... :)
Update your Study schedule. Write down any assignment and due dates, reading you must do, upcoming tests, etc...
Clean up your notes. Review them, highlight the important parts, and maybe even make them look cute!! :)
Don't avoid topics/Subjects you dislike. I know it is tempting, but you can't avoid them forever, so you might as well get them done

Structure and routine ˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆
Goals and Priorities. Keep them realistic and manageable.
Time management. Having a set schedule makes studying less overwhelming; it takes some discipline but is so worth it!! <3
Develop a routine. Figure out what works best for you; I prefer studying in the morning or at night.
No "zero days". Even if you can only do a bit, do it!! NO. ZERO. DAYS.
Remember your goals. Dreams will keep you motivated; remind yourself of what you're working for!! <3

Self-care and balance ˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆
Don't forget about your hobbies. You need to do things that make you happy, so make time for those things!!
Maintain a balanced diet. I know chocolates and junk are tempting, especially when you are busy studying all day, but you're not doing yourself any favours.
Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. 8 Hours. Non-negotiable.
Exercise regularly. Even if it's just a walk, put on some headphones, listen to music, and give yourself a break. <3
Care for your social life. Reach out to your friends, make plans, and keep in touch; a good work-life balance is critical!!

Romanticising ˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆
Study dates. Meet up with your friends at a cosy cafe, discuss your work, and have some fun!! Studying doesn't have to be all serious all the time ;)
Silly Pinterest boards. Visualising your goals will help you find motivation!!
Music to set the mood. I have a bunch of playlists on my Spotify that might help!! <3
Cosy sweater and candles. The cosy Rory Gilmore vibes haha...
Getting a coffee before class. A little treat before things get serious... Simple pleasures, you know? :)
Babes, The hiatus is OVER, and I'm finally back!! I got a lot of asks on studying, burnout, and school in general, so I thought, why not start off with a little student guide?? I Hope October has been kind to you, and school hasn't been too overwhelming (though I know it, unfortunately, has been for many of you), and I'm glad to finally be back!! <33
As always, Please feel free to add your own suggestions and tips in the comments!!

I partied, and although it was fun to get drunk and dance, I felt invisible in the mass of party people.
Now I don't party anymore, and I get confused stares and people's attempts at pressuring me to drink. As if wanting to stay sober is so inconceivable, and the obvious proof that something must be wrong with me.
So I don’t party anymore, and people don't invite me to go out anymore, because partying makes me feel empty and having a nice chat over tea or coffee makes them feel like they're in a phase of their life they're not yet ready for.
So I'm stuck, and I'm lonely, but at least I stay true to myself and this is something I'm sure I'll eventually come to be proud of.
This is for the people who didn’t party in their teens and twenties. For the people who didn’t have that “coming of age” movie experience with shenanigans and revelations. This is for the people who mostly keep to themselves. Who maybe prefer things to be quieter and gentler. This is for the people who don’t feel like they belong in a culture that values loud parties and flashing lights. I see you. And you are valid.

Sometimes studying abroad can be so isolating.
I want people who will love me. I want people who will text me to ask if I'm free to grab some coffee, or go on a walk. I want people who will ask about how I'm doing and expect a genuine answer. I want people who will hold my hand to make sure they won't lose me in a crowded street, and laugh at me when my glasses leave marks on the bridge of my nose after being worn all day.
I don't know if it's me, or them, or both, but God, I'm so alone.

Everyone talks about how hard it is to go back to your studies after a years-long break, but no one talks about about how hard it is to be surrounded by people younger than you who already have their lives figured out and planned in details.
Earlier this year we had to choose an optional class, and on the first session our teacher asked why we had chosen his class. Two people (both 18yo) explained they had chosen it based on the master they wanted to do in two years and that these masters had been chosen because of the very specific jobs they wanted after university.
I'm 22 and most days I don't even know what I'm going to eat for dinner but okay.

For any college student struggling with their mental health in exam season:
You can find 15-minutes-long dance workout videos on YouTube. It's short, good for your physical health, and sweating to 80s songs at 7am saved me from several mental breakdowns

Earlier in class, my tutor announced the man in charge of the uni's cafeteria was his "arch-nemesis".
Not the type of drama I expected in uni but definitely the one I need.

I'm trying to turn the (far too long) ride to the Netherlands into a journey. So I took a 24h break in Brugge, Belgium.
I cannot tell you how beautiful this city is. It makes me even more motivated to move away from my country to start my studies. Try going if you ever happen to be around!

I'm on my way to get coffee with a friend. There is a book in my bag. Will I have or take time to read it? Of course not, but it's my emotional support book. It's staying where it is.

Sometimes a productive day is one in which you finish a book for Uni or find an apartment for your studies abroad. Sometimes it is just a day in which you get a shower and hang out with your family or friends.
Both are okay, be proud of yourself.

I am not supposed to move abroad for university for another two months but I am already trying to plan what I'll bring with me and what I'll leave in my mother's home.
Does anyone who already went through it has any advice to give me?
Thanks in advance for any answer 🤎
