Higher Education: A Classy Scam

Yeah it is official! You meet your enrollment councilor who is more than excited to have you interested in their fine university known for (insert your interested field of study here).  This academic institution is different from others or it could be the same as others.  The date of inception on University or Community College’s seal is irrelevant. Yeah the one on the letterhead does not make a damn bit of difference on a resume!  A recruiter does not care where you got the degree, unless it sparks some smalltalk between you two. If anything they care about whether you are going to feel entitled to getting paid more than what they want to offer. Yes, this is a problem because of the false promises of wielding a college degree given to our parents and given to us as we enrolled and attended.  Also, it really does not matter whether they mold their curricula to be different and innovative or classic and tried and true.  The only thing that is tried and true is that they are going to get paid and you are going to have to scramble to pay for the piece of paper, uhum I mean degree, after many credit hours poured into ingestion and regurgitation of knowledge. Polly want a cracker? Yeah it is the same.

Do not get me wrong I have learned a myriad of information that is valuable. Not a quarter of a million US Dollars valuable, but valuable indeed.  I am able to understand organizational structure, metrics of measurement, EEO/ADA/etc. regulations, corporate culture, leadership theory, and all else that comes with a Masters of Science in Management and a Bachelors of Arts in Communications. But knowledge is cheap.  Knowledge is everywhere.  Heck if you want me to be honest I received excellent grades without reading many of my text books.  Does that make me smart? Hell no! I am writing to you about a house worth of debt in the chase for a degree that meant so much more to my parents career path and life than it does to the career path and life of me or my peers. 

There are very few things in life that you own. Debt is one of those. Especially Student Loan Debt. It owns you and any cosigners for life. No bankruptcy will not be your saving grace. The debt is your companion one Master Promissory Note at a time. Heck you do not even own a house once you pay it off because there is such thing as property tax. If there is a silver lining the dual ownership of my part in the greatest scam to millennials will be with me for life. Also, known as a College Degree. - I better get to working.

For critics, the proposals show a deal moving more toward protection than free trade, one more about corporate benefits than boosting economies and development.
