PERSONAL CRISIS: LUIS MIGUEL

An example, and taking in advantage that the second season was aired this last sunday, is Luis Miguel’s accident while playing in Lima, Peru in 2005. 
The “personal” crisis did not have an initial phase since it occurred from one second to another. Nevertheless, and as we saw on the showm it could be prevented. 
What happened? In few words, the in-ear monitor exploted while doing the show; the medical results showed that he lost part of the internal ear. However, they didn’t want anyone to know that he couldn’t sing due to the accident and told the media, within minutes, that he was in perfect conditions and just a bit tired from all the tour. 
They did that in order to mantain his reputation and keep gossips away from his career. Also, to prevent fans from worrying or the competition to take advantage from the accident. 
From that mistake, all artist can learn to check all the material before any show and prevent any damage to the artist or the public.

CRISIS AND COMMUNICATION
PHASES
Initial: the warning phase and if addressed immediately, it can reverse the potential crisis.
Acute: shortest phase of all, but its intensity makes us perceive it as the longest. The ley is to control most of the possible crisis.
Chronic: the post-mortem phase where it’s time to count the damage and pay the consequences of them.
Resolution: the final phase of a crisis where we find analysis, learnings, and ethics.
Continuity: time to recover from the damage; concrete actions.
IDENTIFICATION
Damage to physical property: natural disaster or violence
Crisis of the company: stikes, equipment failures, lawsuits, or ecological damage.
OBJECTIVES
Protect the people, the public interest, and the owners.
Protect the reputation and image.
PRINCIPLES OF THE AUDIENCE'S PERCEPTION
Being well-known helps to be less guilty
Responsibility from the first moment
Silence means they are less concerned
Honesty counts to be better qualified
Perception of the public affects directly the results of the company
MISSION
Preparation before the crisis
Crisis Management Team: plant manager, security manager, communication officer, head of industrial relations, executive legal department and CFO.
Principles of operation: a. Get all the information, b. Remain open to suggestions, c. Be serious, d. Cooperate with authorities, e. Be proactive, f. Adress to media, g. Inform employees, h. If necessary, get outside counseling, i. Assing responsibilities and j. do not talk about it without preparation.
Spokesperson: with presence and good looks, ability to speak, extensive knowledge of the business and crisis, and with experience.
Policy media relations: a. communicate with key audience, b. first 24hrs are crutial, c. the media covers when you don't provide information, d. remove obstacles, e. do no act with favoritism, f. explain why you can't report, g. alert with photographers, h. safety records of the company and i. be willing to emphasize any act of heroism.

Importance of a good image in the music industry
I don't know if you have seen the movie "Yesterday". I actually saw it last week and there's a scene where the main character is doing his process as a new member of a record label.
He had "no style", as his manager said, and told him that they needed to create a new image for him and the public he wanted to reach.

Principles of Public Image
There are 13 principles of public image and are the following:
Having an Image is unavoidable Everything and everyone has an image.
83% of our decisions are taken through sight Having a good image helps to stand out. Therefore, people always choose what LOOKS the best.
The decodifying process of the perceived stimuli takes only a few seconds "The first impression"
People decide mostly based on feelings A good image gives positive "hunches" and we are very visual for our decisions.
Public image is dynamic We always try to adapt our image to the new trends.
Image creation must respect the essence of the communicator Must always fit the person's essence and the physical traits.
Image is always relative Depends on the context and communication efforts.
The image creation process is rational, and therefore needs a method The method should be based on the needs of the desired public.
The efficiency of an image depends directly on the coherence of its conforming stimuli Also depends on the client/public.
It will always be harder and take longer to rebuild an image than to creat one from the beginning BE CAREFUL! How can you fix a damaged image?
A better image has a stronger influence Helps to maintain public trust.
The leader's image permeates within the institution Both images are connected; therefore, the leade's image is very important to guide the whole company.
The institution's image permeates through its members

STYLES: “The overall appearance”
1. Natural: you are seen as friendly, accessible and optimistic. Moreover, you attract frinds and show an open personality. The risk is to look shaggy.

Examples
Behavioural Research: is a way to examine and understand the response to the product / service.
As an example, sometimes, bands launch a new song during a concert before actually have the material recorded. This, helps them to see the behavior among the audience and if they like it or not.

Another example for Marketing Research is when music festival do polls during and after the event, to know the experience of the audience and how they can improve it the next year.
