Mateo Keller background

42 yrs, black hair slicked back, grey roots just starting to show, amber eyes, lots of wrinkles/smile lines, persistent 5 o'clock shadow, 6’2”

fluent in spanish

serial killer/rapist. vulgar and despicable. Outwardly, he’s loud, friendly, and jokes a lot. 

capricorn (dec 31, 1975ish)

FAMILY: mom, dad, two brothers. Large extended family. None of them know about what he does.

Mr. Keller- loves his son very much, and thinks he’s doing very well for himself. He still thinks he works in construction. 

Mrs. Keller- old and tired. quiet. loving. 

Hector- older brother- doesn’t pay any attention to Mateo, and yet, Mateo looked up to him when he was younger. He was hurt in an accident as a teenager, disabling him. Wheelchair bound. Mateo witnessed the accident.

Antonio- younger brother- thinks Mateo is the worst because he’s a bully who ruins everything, and doesn’t get why everyone likes him. He has no idea what happened to Joaquín.

As a child, Mateo was a little brute. His parents had their hands full raising 3 unruly little boys, and even with the whole family’s help, nobody ever noticed that Mateo wasn’t quite right. Sure, he played rough with other kids, but boys will be boys, right?

He and his brothers were always expected to work in construction, just like their dad and uncles. His mom insisted he finish school first, so that’s what he did. His first victim was in high school. Joaquín was Antonio’s best friend. Mateo came onto him, but Joaquín denied his advances. Joaquín never told anybody what happened and he eventually dropped out. Mateo kept his eye on him. Mateo graduated, started working at his uncle’s site, and moved into his own apartment. He found Joaquín again and raped him, and the next day, Joaquín killed himself. 

Mateo’s second victim, Elijah, was a stranger he spotted on the street. He stalked, cornered, and raped him, but during the assault Elijah had a seizure and hit his head, killing him. Mateo covered it up. Community members were concerned, but nothing pointed to Mateo.

His third victim, Jack, was his first actual premeditated abduction. Mateo didn’t count on Jack fighting back so hard. His fighting back resulted in his accidental death. After that, Mateo bought a gun. 

His victim criteria is broad, since he doesn’t have a specific type, but they're all young men whose disappearances won’t be seen as suspicious. If they're too noticeable, Mateo doesn’t go after them. 

Mateo finally reached a system (stalk, kidnap, photograph, rape, kill, dispose, repeat) a couple years after starting out. He always liked taking pretty pictures of boys who caught his eye, so when a friend at the construction site saw his camera, he suggested selling photos for extra cash, not knowing exactly what Mateo was taking pictures of. As it turned out, that guy was also a pervert and became one of his first customers. 

Once his human trafficking side job picked up, he quit construction when he was 30. On paper somewhere, he still works for his cousin’s company. 

He has several dozens of clients in rotation, and he delivers weekly bundles of polaroids to each, depending on their preferences. He also films one video a week, which costs extra. Occasionally he streams live, and the cover fee is much steeper, but also occasionally takes requests. 

He’s had romantic relationships with women in the past, but they were facades. He can make himself out to be a charming man, but it’s all a fake. He successfully passes himself off as a normal guy. He never lets people get too close.

He usually drives a light blue Ford F-150, a hand-me-down from his father, but he has several other vehicles that were stolen from previous victims. (A blue sedan, a grey van, a grey jeep wrangler). He always carries his glock with him, but owns several other handguns so he doesn’t leave any consistent forensic evidence.

He has several safehouses spread over adjoining states. A couple isolated houses, cabins, an abandoned hotel, an empty warehouse, an old factory. When one area gets too much police attention, he moves on to another. Most of the money he earns from his operation goes into keeping it a secret. He makes tens of thousands from each victim, which is enough to cover costs for upkeep of getaway vehicles/safehouses and bribing the authorities. 

He's never been caught for rape or kidnapping before because there was never enough solid evidence to condemn him. It's usually only "circumstantial" (thanks to a couple of his clients being cops.) He's done time for smaller crimes though:

He served several months for stealing a car.  It belonged to a coworker from his old construction job. He was going to use the vehicle as a getaway car when abducting a victim but never got the chance. He wasn't charged with grand theft auto- it was a joyriding misdemeanor. He got off easy. 

He served a few months on a trespassing charge when he was scouting new locations to hold victims. Turns out the place wasn’t abandoned. 

He keeps mementos of his past victims. Usually it’s just clothes or polaroids. He’s not very violent towards his victims. He’ll hit them occasionally to get them to behave, or threaten them with his gun, but he doesn’t cut them. He doesn’t especially enjoy being violent, it’s just a tool for him.

He always kills his victims. It’s not personal, he’s just done with them and chooses to dispose of them to start again. When he gets bored with them after several months, he takes them out into the middle of nowhere and shoots them in the back of the head and buries their corpse. He doesn’t have one specific dumping location and he doesn’t visit the graves of his victims.

Thomas Wong

18 yrs (August 4- Leo), Bisexual. Biracial (chinese/white)

fluffy dark brown hair, green/hazel eyes. 5'9". lean, toned.

Lavender's first solo victim

A high school senior who's got it all- he's smart, he's cute, he's athletic, he's kind. He's TOO kind, and he shouldn't be so fuckin nice to people who don't deserve it. He's got anxiety.

His boyfriend is Nico Cisneros. They've been dating 8 months. Nico is his first boyfriend, but Thomas has dated girls before.

His favorite colors are candy apple green and turquoise, his favorite animal is a giraffe, and his favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip. Baseball's just a hobby but he's good at it. He plays 3rd base.

His parents are Ada and Daniel Wong. Ada is a nurse and Daniel works as some business executive for a tech company. Thomas's older sister Jessica (age 20) is studying abroad. When he grows up, he goes to college in NYC for a degree in English, and gets a job as an editor at a book publishing company

Lavender Rhodes

24 yrs (July 26- Leo) Sexual orientation unknown. Mixed race (white/ute/japanese)

Dark (possibly dyed?) indigo-ish hair, dark reddish-brown eyes. 5'10". Broad-shouldered, muscular

Mateo's (former) apprentice

Cruel and sadistic. Sociopathic tendencies. She needs to make herself feel powerful by (1) hurting others, (2) making everyone witness it, and (3) getting away with it.

She was always a total menace to everyone around her growing up. She tried to live a normal life but it didn’t fit. She was always getting into fights on purpose.

Her sister's fatal car crash pushed her into a depressive spiral, and Mateo was the only one who was able to get her off her ass. She staged her disappearance at age 20, after agreeing to do work for Mateo. She and Mateo spent about four years working together and did six jobs. All six victims are dead, but not by her hand. She has standards.

She likes sour candy. She's a pretty good actress. She likes to play mean pranks. Fluent in Spanish. She was a business administration major before she dropped out of college

Her parents are Alicia and Marcus Rhodes. They're both businesspeople. Her (step)sister Maritza died at age 21 in a hit-and-run when Lavender was 19

Nico Cisneros

17 yrs (April 16- Aries) Gay. Latino (Guatemalan)

Chocolate brown hair and eyes. 5'6". Slightly petite.

A high school senior who doesn't quite fit into the nerd, geek, or dweeb categories.

He has a knack for investigating. He’s creative in a puzzle sort of way, but a little awkward. He’s got a lot of fight inside of him, despite being itty bitty. He’s determined and makes brash decisions.

He plays the clarinet in his school's jazz band and wants to learn more instruments, starting with the piccolo. Fluent in Spanish. Nearsighted.

His favorite color is peach, his favorite animals are blue parakeets, and his favorite food is strawberry cupcakes.

He had a huge crush on Thomas since he met him in sophomore year English class. He sat behind him and would draw him on his notes. Their first date was at a go-kart place.

His parents are Daniella and Angel Cisneros. Daniella's a part-time dance teacher. Nico is the middle child of 6. His siblings are Alejandro (age 25), Beatriz (age 19), Diego (age 14), Ricky (age 10), and Roxy (age 7). His extended family in Guatemala is even bigger.

When he grows up, he studies criminology and becomes a private investigator for missing persons.

Mateo Keller

42 yrs (December 31- Capricorn) Latino (Mexican)

Black/dark brown hair (just starting to grey), amber eyes. 6'2". Solid burly build.

Serial killer and rapist. Vulgar and despicable. Outwardly, he acts friendly and laughs a lot. He's entitled and usually gets his way.

Detective Amos

Mid-to-late 40s. African American. Black hair and slightly overgrown beard, dark brown eyes. 5'11. Slightly hunched.

The head detective on Thomas's case. Nico kept sticking around, so he took the kid under his wing.

Gruff and tired, but sympathetic. The job has definitely worn him down. He's well-meaning.

After Nico grows up, his mentorship of Nico is more formalized. They end up working together.

Ada Wong

Thomas's mother. White American with brown hair, green eyes. She started growing a grey streak when Thomas was kidnapped. She works as a nurse for the American Red Cross. Now that her kids have outgrown her, she's the shortest in the family.

Daniel Wong

Thomas's father. Chinese-American, dark brown hair, brown eyes. He works as a business executive for a tech company. He makes enough money to keep his family very comfortable. Lavender was confident he'd be able to pay the ransom... eventually.

Jessica Wong

Thomas's sister. Mixed race (white/chinese), Dyed ombre hair, hazel eyes. Age 20. Studying microbiology abroad. Unfortunately heterosexual (?) but she's a good ally. She’s great with makeup and probably posts tutorials on her instagram.

MONTHS

note: MONTHS takes place 4 years before WEEKS. Therefore, Lavender Rhodes starts the story at age 20, and Mateo Keller starts the story at age 38.

Kenton Wayne

20 yrs (October 12- Libra) Straight. White. Blonde hair, grey-brown eyes. 5'8". Lean.

Lavender's first victim with Mateo

A chill skater dude. He's friendly, sociable, and great at getting introverts to come out other shells at parties. He's irresponsible though, and his parents cut him off for being lazy.

He wants to open up his own skate shop, but doesn't have the smarts to be an entrepreneur.

He likes small animals. He's a total sucker for cheap gift shop jewelry, like shell bracelets and shit.

He smokes a lot. He's tried other stuff (shrooms, acid) but usually just sticks with weed. That's how he got caught by Mateo.

His parents are Jacob and Emily Wayne. He's an only child. His middle name is Emmett, after his mother.

Curtis

Late 20's (Taurus). He "claims" he's "straight". Egyptian. Brown hair, brown eyes. 5'7"

a total dumbass, but he's one of Mateo's top clients so he keeps him around

Watches too much porn. Has a thing for blondes. Fluent in Arabic.

He really wants to help with Mateo's whole operation, but that'll never happen because he's too much of a loudmouth.

He keeps forgetting to be afraid of Lavender, and keeps making the mistake of trying to be chummy with her to get more of Mateo's pics at a discount.

Nick Alvarado-Craft

20 yrs (Taurus) Straight. White. Dark brown hair, brown eyes. 6'0". Muscular.

Lavender's second victim with Mateo

A douchebag. Great at lacrosse, but he dropped his college scholarship.

Kind of a partier. Doesn't take things seriously.

He doesn't know how to connect with people past the point of macho sports talk. He's sent unsolicited dick pics for sure. His issues stem from being a disappointment to his father despite being handsome and talented.

His parents are Samuel Alvarado and Linda Craft. Samuel works in construction. Linda's a bitchy PTA mom but doesn’t even go to the meetings. His sister is Katherine (Katie) Alvarado-Craft (16 yrs), a cheerleader.

Daniel Delaney

34 yrs (Scorpio) Bisexual. Turkish. Brown hair with gold highlights, caramel eyes. 5'10". Lean.

Friend and client of Mateo. He's an electrician and he makes good money, so he's one of Mateo's top clients. Sometimes Mateo invites him over to have private sessions with his victims.

He appreciates the finer things in life and likes to appear sophisticated. Suave and charismatic.

He doesn't know shit about kidnapping though. He doesn't really like to get his hands dirty. He dabbles in reselling drugs but doesn't touch it himself.

He's always flirting, and has a HUGE thing for Lavender, despite not actually getting to know her.

Julian Manuel Vasquez

19 yrs (Cancer) Straight. Chicano. Brown hair, chocolate brown eyes. 5'7". Slightly muscled.

Lavender's third victim with Mateo

A sharp tongue and a sharp temper. He likes to make mixtapes and write his own verses. Fluent in Spanish.

He's a cashier at a corner minimart and he HATES it. He hates his boss, he hates how there's no way for him to move up, and he hates how he always gets the worst shifts. He only sticks through it because he wants to help his family. His love for his mom, his baby sister, and God motivate him. He's stubborn like that.

He doesn't know what he wants to do. Most of his friends have moved away.

His parents are Román Emanuel, a cop, and Morena Elena, a part-time fast food cashier. Julian is the oldest of three. His sisters are Carina Violeta (17 yrs) and Selena (1 yr)

Beau Morales

24 yrs (Virgo) Straight. White. Dark brown hair, bright blue eyes. 6'0". Strong arms, well-built.

Lavender's fourth victim with Mateo

A loner. Introspective and thoughtful. He wants to fix the world but doesn't have the means to do so.

He works at a bakery. He knows a little bit of French. His favorite color is dark blue.

He's still very in love with his ex, Beverly, despite trying to move on. Such a hopeless romantic.

His parents are Nathaniel Morales (57 yrs), a lawyer, and Nancy Barnett (60 yrs), a secretary, who are divorced. His sister is Rebecca Petersen (27 yrs). He has a large evangelical Christian family, but he's estranged because he stood up for his gay cousin.

Solomon (Ollie) Cruise

15 yrs (Sagittarius) Straight. Korean. Soft black hair, dark brown eyes. 5'6"

Lavender's fifth victim with Mateo

His Korean name is Kwon Ji-Hun

The kindest little candle ever. So very polite. He's easily mistaken for being younger.

Shy, but has a passion for music. A talented pianist and singer. As a sophomore transfer student in a new school, he doesn't have many friends.

He’s still figuring himself out and trying new hobbies (some of his favorites are archery, DND, and pokemon)

His parents are Peter and Tiffany Cruise and his sister is Hannah (Hye-Jin) (12 yrs)

Emory Jackson

17/18 yrs (Capricorn) Bisexual. Lebanese. Black hair, hazel eyes. Scrawny. 5'7"

Lavender's sixth (and final) victim with Mateo

Claims to hates everyone and everything, but he's just lost. He likes to feel smarter than people, and he often is. He’s a clever boy. He's good at coming up with scathing insults.

He likes animals. He takes care of the strays on the streets as often as possible. He wants to find somewhere to belong.

His homophobic/abusive dad basically dumped Emory on his sister to take care of. The first time his dad hit him, Emory ran away. He forces himself to stay independent even though he’s got friends who’d be happy to help him.

His parents are Marley Jackson (46 yrs), a mechanic, and Lacey Jackson (36 at death), a waitress who died when Emory was 12. Emory's aunt (Janelle Mallard) and uncle (Norman Mallard) are supposed to have custody of him.

Maritza Rhodes

21 yrs at death. Bisexual. Mixed race (ute/white latino). Curly light brown hair, russet brown eyes. 5'8"

Killed in a hit-and-run in the middle of the night.

A bad girl, but definitely not as mean as Lavender. She mostly wanted to piss off her stepdad because he tried to force a "traditional" upbringing. He sent her to an all-girls catholic school to straighten her out, which didn't work.

She and Lavender were extremely close. Lavender looked up to her, and she was arguably the only person Lavender ever really loved. Despite bullying each other relentlessly, they took on the world together.

Her friends at the private girl’s school called her Ritz and they smoked cigarettes on campus and broke the dress code with combat boots and leather jackets

She went to community college to be a nurse. She liked to play the violin. Fluent in Spanish.

Her parents are Alicia Rhodes and some unnamed man. Her stepdad is Marcus Rhodes and stepsister is Lavender

Alicia Rhodes

Lavender and Maritza's mother. Mixed race (white/ute). Curly brown hair, dark brown eyes. She had Maritza first with some unnamed man, then soon married Marcus and had Lavender. She insisted on her daughters learning spanish.

Marcus Rhodes

Maritza's stepfather and Lavender's father. Japanese-American. blue-black hair, dark brown eyes. He always had a "tough love" style of parenting but could never handle either of his daughters.
