Ween Song Info #2: She Caught My Fancy
She Caught My Fancy was originally recorded during the White Pepper sessions as an acoustic demo. In early 2000, the band made the choice to include the track on their upcoming record, White Pepper, and tracking began on a studio version. Stu Basore played the pedal steel, Dave played upright bass, Mickey on classical guitar, Claude on percussion and Glenn on Moog Synth. The track was recorded live under 2 mics at Woodstock and percussion was helped by a Univox drum machine. The finished studio cut never had vocals as Aaron was asleep on the last night of tracking, and the band just couldn't wake him up. Mickey has stated the song is one of his all-time favorites, and that it's "so stony and sweet". In 2001 the original demo recording was brought back into the running as a demo for their next album, Caesar (to be known later as quebec). Ultimately the song was scrapped, and the last known reference to it was in 2017 where the band performed it live for the first and last time in over 17 years.

Ween Song Info #1: The Rift
The Rift was originally written in early 1992 by Mickey after watching an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation and feeling inspired. The 4-track demo version features Scott Lowe on lead vocals. Later that year, in June, Scott Lowe was taken into the studio to help record backing harmonies on the first studio version of the track. This session, done on 6/7/1992 at Graphic Sound on 24-track tape, finalized the recordings of many songs such as Young Chou Lin, Baby Bitch and the HIV Song. Multiple mixes of the track were done and 2 of them can be found online, one of them even being mixed by Pat Frey. Years later, after the song was scrapped during the production of Chocolate and Cheese, Ween pitched the idea of submitting the song for the X-Files soundtrack (before Beacon Light was written). An uncirculated 11-minute studio recording was produced and rejected. Years later, in 2004 in preparation for Shinola Vol. 1, the 1997 recording of this track was revisited and cut down, with a shorter remixed version making the final cut of that record. - Arin of Ween Archived
