“He’s sick,” Cody calls after you, appearing in the doorway as you go. “Please- please come back.”

“Yeah I’m sure he is sick in the head,” I snort, “I don’t think normal people murder but you know, I’ve been wrong before.”

“I’m sorry,” he whispers, tearing up. “We- we didn’t know- we couldn’t control it. I tried to. Tried so hard. Please believe me.”

I stare at him for a long moment and then say, “I do not blame you for the chip in your head. I do blame you for dating and marrying the monster that is my ex husband.” I shrug a shoulder and then head out swiftly.

“He did great,” Cody assures you. “He’s real quiet. And uh- I didn’t… tell V he was here with me. Didn’t know how you’d feel about that.”

“I would not have appreciated it,” I say stiffly, “and yeah. Luca can’t talk,” I shake my head, “I got stabbed in my stomach by Jet and they think that’s why.”

“My gods,” he shakes his head a little. “Just uhm… can- can you please tell him I miss him?”

“Sure,” I scoop Luca from his arms and tuck his blanket around him better, “did he do okay? Ate and slept?”

Cody winces. “Fuck happened to him? Where is he? Can I see him?”

“No. He’s not even thrilled I left Lu with you, let alone wanting to see you.” I sigh, “but he got swallowed by some giant cat, thing.”

“Mhm,” he nods a little, brows furrowing. “My brother okay? What- what happened?”

“He’ll live,” I say quietly, “he might lose his left arm, though. It depends on if infection sets in.”

Cody gets up and slowly pads to the door, opening it with disheveled curls and half-lidded eyes, one of his arms holding Luca to his bare chest for skin time.

“Oh- h’lo,” he rasps, stepping aside so you can come in.

I give a nod, “hey. Thank you for watching him.” I step in and start to pack up the diaper bag.

“What’s wrong with- damn,” he sighs, his call to you having failed since you’re already gone.

He looks down at the baby in his arms and puts the baby bag over his shoulder, slowly heading out of the cantina with him. “I’ll keep you safe, little man. Don’t you worry.”

I’m gone four days instead of two, with Rex’s stitches taking a long time along with getting him settled safely in a safe house not far from here.

I come back on the fourth day around midnight, knocking on Cody’s hotel room door.

Cody nods and starts to get up, wanting to get back to the hotel immediately. “Okay- I won’t leave. Seriously, do you need help? What’s- what can I do?”

I shake my head, “this is you doing something. Rex is injured and I need to go to him, but as long as you stay with my son, you’re helping.” I give a nod and then turn, hurrying out of the cantina to get back to my ship. I’ve already spent too much time on this planet tracking Cody down.

“I- what- d’you- yes,” he nods a little, “yes I can- what’s going on?”

I nod and scoot around the booth, gently passing Luca into his arms and then setting the diaper bag next to him, “I need to go. Do not leave this planet or the hotel you’re staying in, I will come back as soon as I can.”

Cody straightens at the sight of you, his eyes quickly widening. “What the fuck?” He murmurs in shock.

“I need your help,” I say quietly, “can you babysit, here, for two days?”

I tuck in my little baby closer to my body, him snuggly wrapped in blankets and napping against my shoulder, his heavy weight comforting as I move through the streets of Corellia.

Rex needs help. Rex is hurt and he called me crying for help and I need to go, but I can’t bring Luca. I’d never forgive myself if he got hurt.

But… Cody is here. Cody is here to discuss certain things with certain people and make deals while Vader is away somewhere else.

I kiss the top of Luca’s head and pull the blanket up higher before slipping into the cantina I know Cody to be at. He can’t cause a giant scene here, so at least there’s that.

I press my hand over Luca’s exposed ear to keep it quiet for him before moving over to the booth I see Cody at and sliding in front of him calmly.

Ask him if he would like to go for a flight. I promise I will fly easy and pull no tricks.

“Daddy, dragon asks if you wanna fly?” I point.

He lays down so you can crawl more comfortably, giving Chernan a huff in greeting as the man approaches.

He seems timid. I think it is funny.

“Daddy ‘s okay,” I look over as I crawl up onto Raka’s back.!

A letter? But I cannot read. Or is it for the king from my region?

“King,” I nod a little, starting to climb up his body slowly.

I nod a little, “mhm. Daddy has let-ter for you.”

Raka ducks his head down to see you better. Hello, little one. I have missed seeing you.

I move over and crawl right onto his paw again, “hi hi hi.”
