The Weird Unicorn's World
3K posts
I go by many names but Shara is the most common. A place to put all the strange, awesome, cool and weird things I find in my travels along the Inter-Tubes. I am an artist that just enjoys completely random things. Don't like what I post, then don't follow me.

A Kraken pretending to be a Sea Serpent, inspired by the art below I randomly found years ago. Just a goofy little wiggly armed friend for my desk lol.

A baby Mothman, just minding his business lol, and some Erosion Birds (new obsession, late to the party though lol) that I made a while ago and forgot to post. The birbs look kind of like melted nekkid Peeps since I made them so tiny, they're barely an inch high XD

I made a bobblehead! He's a baby Jersey Devil, one of my favorite cryptids. Made using the spun cotton method, I wanted him to look both innocent and devious, if that's possible. I'm pretty proud of him, he's the biggest sculpture I've done so far at 4 and a little over half inches high.
Here's a very short vid showing his head wiggle capabilities: https://youtu.be/tfc8FaaugP8

I have a very good friend that told me that the Danish word for cricket is fårekylling and it translates to… Sheep Chicken. 😆
I couldn't get the image out of my head, so I had to make one for myself. Apparently its named that because of the sound they make, kind of a bleating chirp, which I can understand. But still, the idea of a Sheep Chicken just tickled me and now I made one and named it Cricket 🤣

Made a baby Kraken having a bubblebath ^_^
He's about 3 inches high, made of my usual bits and trash; ash, glue, wire and paint. The tub is a condiment container with cardstock for the 'wood' planks, more cardstock for the 'metal' bands and bolts. The rings are actually O-rings used for jewelry. The rubber ducky is more ash and glue, the scrub brush is cardstock and twine. And the bubbles are hot glue drops and small hole-less beads, with a thin silver paint coat to make them shimmer.
Overall I am very proud of this one!

Made a Biblically Accurate Angel out of Spun Cotton. I love how the angel said "Be not afraid" but I can guarantee if I saw something like this I would very much be afraid! XD

I made another Mushroom Octopus!
This one is based on Coprinus comatus, the Shaggy Ink Cap.
And I made a very very rough tutorial video on how I made it if anyone is curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04iVRswDFUo

Inspired by the art of Gustavo Floering who uses plastic bags in the making of his art dolls, I made a baby Mothman!
His innards are multiple plastic bags twisted together, cardstock, and wrapped in masking tape. His outside is an old bear plushie I had no real room for anymore, and the eyes are from the bear too, just painted red.
He's a bit lumpy here and there, the back is a bit more lumpy than the front, but for a first time attempt at this type of thing I'm pretty proud of him!
Bonus, I finished him yesterday, Friday the 13th

So, mom wanted a little Amanita Mushroom Octopus of her own but she wanted it to be able to hang from her side table lamp. So it had to be light and hard to break just in case it fell…and with what I usually use for my sculptures it wasn't gonna work. I then tried hot glue, but while that's unbreakable, it's heavy. It was taking forever and I was stymied on how to make it work, when I discovered Spun Cotton. After making my Mothman and Fresno Nightcrawler I knew I could make the little mush-octo and so I have! I love Spun Cotton, it came to me in my moment of need lol.

I'm really really liking the Spun Cotton thing and had to make another cryptid fave of mine. This little guy is a Fresno Nightcrawler! Even if they're a hoax I still love these weird little pants monsters XD

I learned of a new craft recently and had to give it a try. It's called Spun Cotton and usually was used in making ornaments. It started in Germany in the late 19th century, basically layering cotton and starch or glue, very like paper mache. So of course I had to make myself a little Mothman, because he's my all-time favorite Cryptid XD

Dad got me this 2.5in tall 3D printed Godzilla and I painted it to look like he's powering up his atomic breath. And whoo boy, whoever sculpted it put some DETAIL into it! So many scales and crevices, but the base…the base nearly offed me XD It has 3 cars, I-beams, asphalt, dirt and rocks, pipes…so many details. Kudos for all the details but my goodness it was nerve-wracking, I only have one teeny-tiny brush and hands that aren't 100% steady lol. But I'm proud of it!

I keep forgetting to post this little guy (he's only about 5 inches long lol) and I made him last year XD He's a Fur-bearing Trout, a legendary creature found in American and Icelandic folklore. According to tales, the trout has created a thick coat of fur to maintain its body heat in the cold rivers, streams and lakes it lives in. My favorite American theory says that its fur is due to four jugs of hair tonic being spilled into the Arkansas River, lol. Made of the usual bits and bobs and trash, the only thing bought for it was the fake fur.

These are mushroom octopi I made!
The white one is a mix of Agaricus xanthodermus (Yellow Stainer mushroom) and Blue-ringed Octopus, it's about 2 inches tall. And the other is based off of the Amanita muscaria (Fly Agaric mushroom), it's about 2 and a half inches tall. Both are made of my usual medium these days, trash lol. Wire, ash, dried tea, glue, paper, and the cups are from a drink cap and medicine cap/drink cap glued together respectively.

I've been real into making octopus stuff lately, the last two years really. These are pendants, made of wire, glue, ash, wood and glass. Not the best photos but I'm very proud of these little guys!

I was watching a video a bit ago by an artist I love on YouTube, Clayfect, and got inspired!
She created the "Weedling", a dandelion goose (can be other weeds too but I like dandelions lol), and I just fell in love with how cute and goofy it is and couldn't get the idea of making my own out of my head.
Hers is made of Sculpey clay, while mine is made in my favorite medium, trash lol. It's made of wire, paper, dried tea and ashes mixed with glue and then painted.
I'm pretty proud of him! But I am starting to build a tiny weird plant collection on my desk…first Alice my man-eating plant, now this little guy. I might have a problem lol.
If you're interested, watch her video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuAp9YhtRpY
