Nyx, princess of the Court of Death’s, true looks without her glamours. Nyx is half Nightmare Fae, hence the horns. Darkstar Vampire on Facebook has once again knocked it out of the park.

Nyx Morana
I’m going to do a little series about each of the Princesses and I thought I’d start with Nyx, as she’s one of my favorites! Cairo belongs to @capricornrabies
Nyx is half Nightmare Fae, half Death Fae; her mother was the younger princess of the Nightmare throne while her father was the king of the Death throne. Tanda kept it secret from Nyx for centuries, unwilling to share the truth with her. She was raised by her aunt for the first century of her life as Tanda was in no condition to raise a child after the devastating loss of her mate.
Calandra, Nyx’s aunt, knew the truth of the matter, but was sworn to secrecy by Tanda. She disapproved of Tanda keeping a glamour over her daughter to keep her real appearance hidden as it reminded her too much of her late mate, Calagero, as Nyx was almost a spitting image of him, only with a lighter skin tone, as well as having the telltale signs of being half Nightmare Fae: a set of horns and clawed hands that looked darker blue compared to the rest of her. She trained Nyx on how to use the glamour as she got older, working with the young girl in strengthening her magic, pushing her to master spells far beyond her years. She also kept a stronger glamour even Nyx knew nothing about to keep her Nightmare Fae traits hidden. Nyx found out the trut about being half Nightmare Fae upon meeting her grandfather, Adrastos Ironguard, who broke the more powerful glamour Nyx knew nothing about, revealing the horns and her hands, exposing the truth in its entirety to her.
Tanda made a deal with Death to trade Nyx’s life for Calagero’s when Nyx reached a certain age, though unknown to Tanda, Death had other plans for the situation: Nyx would be following her path to take over for her Fate, Sybella, and that Tanda was be reunited with Calagero, just not the way she was thinking.
Nyx is a quiet, highly intelligent young woman who spends a good deal of her time reading or writing poetry, learning as much as she can about the world outside of the palace, and spending time with the few friends she’s been allowed to have. Nyx spent her whole life living in the palace, never being allowed to leave unless she was with Tanda. She was living in a gilded cage, unable to stretch her wings so to speak, so her life experience is fairly limited beyond what she’s experienced at her court or her aunt’s.
Nyx’s mate, Cairo Ulf, is the oldest son of the Ulf family, the noble family set to take over the throne in the Nightmare Court if anything were to happen to Nyx’s cousin Aycin before he and his mate could produce heirs to the throne. Cairo, also known as Jack, is the lead guitarist for the band the Hallowed Crypt. Cairo, Nyx, and Aycin grew up together, the trio very close despite the age differences between Aycin, Cairo and Nyx, Nyx being the baby of the group. Cairo dotes on Nyx, calling her his Blueberry in private, and the two are very affectionate towards each other.

Shadows
Tumblr media
Pairing: None Word Count: 1.3k Warnings: Some blood, little bit of violence Tagging: @senator-nahberries, @capricornrabies, and @valkyrieofthehighfae
Tumblr media
A large, ornate book sat on the table in front of me, the smell of leather and magic strong as I reached out with a hand to rest my fingertips on the books’ cover. My grandfather was sitting across the way from me, a serious expression on his face as he watched me pull the book towards myself, a steadfast frown tugging at his mouth.
“If you’ve gained enough power little one, you’ll be able to open the book. You’ve been working hard at your lessons and I am so proud of you. You’ve mastered spells even your grandmother can’t do, it’s amazing to see how much you’ve progressed in the short time we’ve been training.” He was leaning forward onto the dark wood of the table we were sitting at, silvery eyes gleaming as a smile tugged at his lips. “Go on darling, see if you can open the book.”
I hesitated a moment, unsure about this. It was exciting but something wasn’t quite sitting well with me about this situation. He was too eager and it was off putting if I was being honest with myself. I wasn’t sure I should open the book, but I didn’t want to disappoint Grandfather, so I took a breath and went to open the book, gasping softly as it flipped open easily at my touch.
“Yes! I knew you were ready! That’s my girl, I’m so proud of you Nyx. Come, pass the book over please. There’s a specific spell I want you to perform.” He was beaming happily as he held a hand out for the book and I handed it over to him, curious about this spell. “Let’s see… where is it? Ah, here we go. Come, we must go to the summoning circle at the temple.” He waved his hand, conjuring a portal for us to step through and I followed after him, gasping softly to see we had been brought to an ancient ruin that had once been the Temple of Shadows before the cult had been killed off and the building fell into ruin.
“Grandfather, why here? What’s so special about this ruin?” I inquired curiously, following him down a spiraling stairway, eager to see what this spell was exactly. Clearly it had something to do with this old ruin, but I didn’t understand how or why.
“You’ll see soon enough darling girl,” He rasped. He was always so mysterious with things, keeping answers vague and maddeningly unhelpful sometimes. It could be rather frustrating at times, especially with my need to learn and understand how and why things worked. “We’re almost to the ritual spot. Then you shall receive your answer. Be a dear and conjure a light, would you? It’s going to grow dark here momentarily.” He continued on and I nodded, murmuring the spell to call forth a bright ball of light that floated above us, shining down to guide our way in the growing shadows. The descent down to this summoning circle seemed to drag on forever, a chill seeping into my bones the further down we went, and I shivered a little bit at the cold.
“Grandfather, how much further must we go? The temple didn’t seem like it was this large from the outside.” I ventured after a while of walking.
“We’re nearly there. Just a little longer. Be patient.” He murmured reassuringly.
“Yes Grandfather.” I sighed softly, casting a small spell to chase the cold away, shivering a bit. Finally, what felt like an eternity later, we were stepping into a large, open chamber where a strange spell circle had been carved deep into the obsidian. I had the feeling of being watched as we entered the chamber, grandfather walking quickly and with purpose to the circle, barking at me to hurry after him.
“Give me your hand, little one,” He motioned for me to approach him. I did as I was told, reaching for his large hand, and cried out when he slashed my palm open, taking my hand and pressing it into the middle of the circle. “There, the ritual is now tied to your blood. Quickly, say the spell.” He handed me the book, snapping at me to hurry. I took the book with trembling hands and read the spell out loud, gasping as the circle lit up a deep, royal purple and a dragon appeared from the shadows, snarling viciously at us.
“Grandfather!” I was actually scared, taking a step back from the dragon as it prowled towards me, glowing purple eyes eyeing me warily, growling dangerously as it took a run towards me.
“Repeat the spell Nyx! Do it!” He growled and I did, my voice shaking as I called out the spell once more, gasping as the dragon became shade like and was drawn into my body, the feeling overwhelming, and I fell into the summoning circle with a cry of pain. “You’re stronger than this, Nyx! You are of my bloodline! Master the dragon, tame it!” Grandfather bellowed, watching on as I writhed on the ground, screaming in agony as a burning sensation overtook my entire being. I felt the air get knocked from my lungs as I fought back, my body fighting with everything it had in it when the sensations just… stopped. The world was no longer as if it were on fire, I felt… normal. I lay there for a moment, trying to regain my bearings, staggering to my feet when I felt like I was ready to get up, my vision swimming as I swayed on my feet.
“I-I don’t… what happened? Why did you bring me here for this? What was the purpose?” I whispered, glancing down at my palm to see the wound was gone, completely knitted up like nothing had ever happened. I felt betrayed, hurt, and confused, looking up at my grandfather with angry tears welling in my eyes.
“I brought you here to tame a shadow dragon. They’re rare, powerful creatures. I have one as does your mother, I brought her here when she was your age to give her the gift of being able to summon one of the dragons. He is a part of you now Nyx, you may summon him at will, and he will boost your powers beyond what you have now the more you work with him and strengthen your bond. Go on, summon him.” He encouraged me and I took a steadying breath, and concentrated, calling the dragon forth. I watched as he stepped out of my shadow and nudged his head into my chest, making an almost purring sound as I slowly reached up to pet him. He was a pretty beast with dark, smoke colored scales and those glowing purple eyes were unique, but I still didn’t quite understand why I was chosen for this.
“What did you mean by ‘he’s part of me’?” I was watching as he curled around me protectively, a low growl emanating from him when he studied my grandfather.
“Come now Nyx, you’re not a stupid woman. Surely you can deduce the meaning of that on your own?” Grandfather snorted derisively and I sighed, waving my hand and dismissing the dragon and watched as he became one with my shadow again.
“I’d like to go home please. This experience has been… draining to say the least.” I mumbled, looking down at my feet, hands still gripping onto the spellbook tightly. I could hear the gentle whooshing sound of a portal being conjured up and stepped through it into my room, turning to hand Grandfather the book back.
“No darling, keep it. Read over it and learn all that you can from it. Just keep it safe and hidden from prying eyes. This is our little secret, alright? I’m proud of you for this accomplishment. You did well today. Get some rest little one and I shall see you tomorrow.”

Kids Say the Damndest Things
Warnings: Just a kid being a kid and saying weird shit Word Count: 759 Pumpkin belongs to the lovely @capricornrabies Tagging: @senator-nahberries @capricornrabies and @valkyrieofthehighfae Translations: mamae - mom/mommy/mama, babae - dad/daddy, da’lath’in - little heart
Tumblr media
“Mamae,” A little voice whispered from my left. “Mamae!”
“Mmm wha-?” I shifted in Pumpkin’s arms, rolling over and opening my eyes to see my little three year old daughter standing by the side of our bed, inches away from my face, and it took everything in me not to freak out. “What is it, da’lath’in?” I mumbled tiredly, looking to see what time it was. Seven in the morning. Of course it was seven in the morning. Why wouldn’t it be?
“Mamae, I wanna peel all your skin off.” She whispered in the most serious tone of voice she could muster, her little hands coming up to rest on my cheeks, and I lay there for a moment, trying to process what was just whispered to me in a sweet little voice, blinking rapidly a few times. Was this really happening or was it some wacky little dream I was having?
“Pumpkin? Pumpkin honey, can you wake up please?” I rolled back over to shake my snoozing husband, who woke up quickly and looked around sleepily.
 “What? What’s wrong?”
“Am I dreaming or is the little one standing next to me?”
“Hi sweetie, what’re you doing up?” Pumpkin all but confirmed that yes, she was standing next to me and yes, I heard what I’d heard correctly.
“I told mamae that I wanted to peel all her skin off,” She sounded very pleased with herself and even Pumpkin had to stop for a second to process that bit of horror.
“Uh… okay then, honey, c’mon why don’t we go make breakfast for mamae? Mamae, what do you want for breakfast?” Pumpkin leaned down to kiss me lovingly, nuzzling his face against mine when I groaned a little bit.
“I don’t care babae, surprise me,” I yawned, nuzzling him back tiredly, still trying to wrap my head around what had just happened. “I’ll be down soon, let me just wake up some.”
“No, no, you stay here, we’ll do breakfast in bed today, okay?” He pressed another kiss to my forehead, followed by a wet kiss from our daughter right on the cheek before she squealed in delight as Pumpkin scooped her up before taking her downstairs. Now I could actually take a second and process what the hell just happened. She’s said some weird things before but this took the cake on weird and creepy things she’s said.
“Oh! Wait! I’m an idiot!” It clicked after a moment and I was smacking myself in the face. I’d had a really bad sunburn the previous week and had been peeling pretty badly as it healed up and she’d seen Pumpkin peeling it off of me randomly when he’d walk past me cuz he knew it drove me nuts.
“Who’s an idiot?” Pumpkin came in with my favorite mug of coffee, setting it down on the nightstand before kneeling down on the bed so he could lay down on me.
“Me, I’m an idiot. Where’s the little one?” I asked him, kissing his forehead.
“Aunty Rune came by to pick her up. Remember, she and Uncle Spooks are keeping her for the weekend so we can get a break?” He mumbled into my chest, snuggling in close to me.
“Oh, that’s right. I forgot. Did you warn Rune about the creepy level shenanigans we’re starting our mornings with now?” I laughed, holding onto him tightly, petting his hair tenderly.
“Didn’t get a chance to before she was telling Uncle Spooks she wanted to wear his eyes on her charm bracelet because they’re, and I quote, very pretty.” He muttered and I burst out laughing.
“Yeah, that figures. Wonderful. We have a tiny little serial killer on our hands, babe,” I couldn’t help but sigh a little. “Oh, but I know why she said she wanted to peel all my skin off: it’s because she saw you peeling my sunburn when it started healing.”
Pumpkin started giggling and I couldn’t help but start laughing again, too. Only our child would take it to such extremes like this. I loved my strange little family, even if we might have a tiny, deranged future murder on our hands.
“That makes way more sense now. Still creepy, but less with that bit of information. And I will not do that again in front of her.” He snorted, moving his head so he was resting the side of his face on my shoulder instead of smashed into my chest. “Only our kid, right?”
“Well, you know what they say babe: kids say the damndest things.”

As Sweet as Sugar
Tumblr media
Pairing: Danica x Ansgar Word Count: 779 Warnings: None, just lots of fluff Ansgar belongs to @capricornrabies  Tagging: @capricornrabies, @valkyrieofthehighfae
Tumblr media
The smell of warm vanilla and sugar filled the kitchen as I worked on making cupcakes to surprise Ansgar with, singing along with the radio as I popped the cupcakes from the oven and set them aside to cool while turning my attention to making the frosting. I was trying to win over the captain that was my personal guard, hoping that these cupcakes would work or at least pave the way to us becoming friends. We’d grown a touch closer, but he was still so distant and I wanted to change that.
I just hope he likes them. I thought as I got the frosting into a piping bag and tied shut, checking the cupcakes to see if they were cool enough to frost yet. I made a slight face at the fact they were still just a touch too warm and set the piping bag down, going to rummage through the fridge, pulling out some fresh lost kingdom pears and began to wash them before dicing them up nicely to use as a nice topping on the frosting.
There! Cupcakes are all done! Let me just make him lunch really quick and then I’ll be on my way. I was beaming happily as I quickly put together a nice, homemade meal for Ansgar, gathering everything up and made my way to where the guards ate lunch, sitting down next to him and set the lunch and cupcakes down in front of him
“Surprise!” I smiled sweetly at the surprised guard, a grin lighting my face up when he gave me a puzzled look. “I wanted to make you some cupcakes and figured I’d make you lunch, too. I wasn’t sure what kind you liked, so I just kind of went the safe route and made vanilla cupcakes with brown sugar vanilla frosting and decorated the tops with lost kingdom pears and a drizzle of honey over it.”
“Thank you, princess. You didn’t need to do this.” He muttered, looking a little embarrassed and I chuckled softly, reaching over to rest my hand on his, squeezing softly.
“I know, but I wanted to. Enjoy them, you deserve a little something for working as hard as you do.” A soft smile tugged at my lips and he nodded a bit, still unsure of the gesture.
“Thank you…” He hesitated a moment before returning the light squeeze to my hand. “Will you stay and eat with me?”
“Of course! I made your favorite for lunch, by the way.” I was happy he’d asked if I would stay and made casual small talk, trying to get something out of him, a smile, a laugh, anything really. I was triumphant when he did crack a smile at one of my stupid puns and I was mighty pleased with myself for breaking that shell a smidge.
“Cupcake?” He offered one to me and I took it with a murmured thanks, watching to see what he thought of them. He closed his eyes as he took a bite, groaning softly and I grinned, pleased he liked them, and took a bite of mine with gusto.
“Hold still, you’ve got some frosting on your face,” I teased him, trying to lean up to wipe it off, laughing as he batted at my hand. “Ansgar! C’mon!” I was giggling and snagged his chin in my hand, pulling him down and kissed the frosting off of his lip, much to his surprise.
“There, that’s better. Got it,” I turned my attention back to my cupcake and took another bite of it, pleased with just how well they turned out. He was staring hard at me as I continued eating and I glanced back over at him with raised brows. “Can I help you?” I teased and he seemed to snap out of it, face flushing and he turned away to focus on the remainder of the cupcake in his hand, finishing it off before carefully putting the rest away.
“Thank you again for lunch and the cupcakes. They were good,” He mumbled, his eyes focused on the table and I nodded quietly in response.
“I’m glad you enjoyed it. I should probably get going, I’ve got to check on Frigga, she should be having her foal any day now and I want to make sure she’s doing okay.” I went to stand up when he stopped me, his hand holding onto mine gently.
“Hold on, you’ve got a little something on your face,” He leaned in and caught my lips in a heated kiss that left me breathless, when he pulled away as quickly as he’d started. “There, got it. That’s better, now you look presentable again.”

Exploding Waffles
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hally Lavellan x Pumpkin Word Count: 719 Warnings: Language, fluff Pumpkin belongs to the lovely @capricornrabies  Tagging: @valkyrieofthehighfae, @capricornrabies
Tumblr media
It wasn’t much of a surprise that I was awake before Pumpkin; every morning consisted of me being up before the sleepy commando. I lay there quietly for a moment, smiling softly at the slightly snoring man, his hair a wreck and his mouth hanging open a little bit, soft rays of sunshine falling across his handsome face. Moving quietly, I slid out of bed, putting on a discarded tank top and some comfy pj shorts and headed out into the kitchen so I could make him some breakfast in bed.
Waffles are always a good choice. You can never go wrong with waffles, especially homemade ones! I started pulling everything that I needed out and got to work mixing everything together.
“Wait, where’s my baking powder? Oh, hold on, here it is.” I grumbled, finding the can on my counter, which was odd since it was usually in my cabinet. I must have forgotten to put it back the last time I used it. I measured out the amount I needed and tossed it into the batter, whisking it in before grabbing some chocolate to chop up so I could toss that into the mix as well.
Just as I set my knife down, a weird sound caught my attention and I turned to see the bowl of batter explode with a loud bang, startling me into screaming at the top of my lungs. I stood there for a second, batter covering my counter, ceiling, me, and the floor and cabinets.
“Hally?!” Pumpkin yelled, scrambling into the kitchen, panicked, until he saw me and started cackling.
“Uh surprise? I was gonna make you breakfast, and, well, I fucked up.” I was grinning sheepishly, batter dripping down my face and onto my chest and clothes. Pumpkin was holding himself up on the doorframe, crying from laughing so hard.
“Wha-what’d you do, put a grenade in the bowl?!” He howled, hyena laughing at the situation.
“Uh, well, sort of! I thought that I grabbed my baking powder, and as we can both see, this was not baking powder at all, but one of my experimental chemicals. Why it’s in the kitchen in an old baking powder container, I don’t have a fucking clue.” I had dissolved into a fit of giggles into a fit of giggles at this point, Pumpkin having fallen to the floor wheezing from laughing so hard. “So much for surprising you with breakfast.” I went to grab some towels, trying to get stuff cleaned up while Pumpkin was still on the floor dying of laughter. Something on the counter caught my eye and I groaned, picking up fragments of my bowl.
“That was my last mixing bowl! Aww man! Guess we’re making a trip up to Noveria so I can buy some new ones after I get this cleaned up. This has happened far too many times.” I shook my head while wiping up the counter. Pumpkin caught his breath, got to his feet and wandered over, grabbing some towels and wiped my face off, a grin lighting his face up.
“We’ll grab something while we’re out.”
While he wasn’t looking, I gathered up some of the batter and smashed it into his face with a laugh, squealing when he grabbed me around the waist.
“If I’m gonna be battered, so are you!” I was laughing as I smeared the batter on his chest and neck, laughing harder when he got me back.
“Brat! C’mere!” Pumpkin was cackling again, coming after me when I got free, tossing a handful of batter my way. Ten minutes later, we were cuddled up on the kitchen floor, covered in drying batter and laughing our asses off.
“I love you ma vhenan.” I managed to get out between giggles, leaning into his chest, resting my head on his shoulder.
 “I love you too, Hally.”
“C’mon, we should go shower before we go anywhere,” I wiggled free from his arms and held a hand out for him to take, making a face when he groaned. “No complaining ya nasty ass. Let’s go, shower time. I’m not taking you anywhere covered in dried waffle batter.”
“Alright, alright, fine. Will you wash my hair? I like it when you do that, it feels nice.”
“Yeah, okay, I can do that. C’mon big guy.”

Hunger Games
Tumblr media
Summary: Danica races against her cousins to get to dinner otherwise there’ll be no food for the Court of Stars princess to eat.
Word Count: 530 Warnings: Language Hagan, Sol, Mimir,  Jormungandr, and Gudbrand belong to @capricornrabies
Tumblr media
I was sprinting through the hallways, dodging around people and leaping over obstacles to get to the Great Hall before my cousins could get there, my stomach growling loudly as I slid through the heavy wooden doors, scrambling to the table and immediately began to pile food onto my plate. I had to be quick otherwise I wouldn’t get a damn thing and I was starving after a long day of training.
Fuck, fuck, fuck! I could hear the sounds of the group of men coming this way as I practically inhaled my food, clearing my plate and immediately began to serve myself seconds just as they came bursting in and headed to the large, wooden table, all of them talking over one another excitedly.
“Looks like Shorty made it here first this time. You’ve learned quickly kid,” Hagan, my oldest cousin, was grinning at me as he quickly filled his plate, leaning to try and snatch a biscuit off of mine. I bit down on his hand hard enough to draw blood, growling at him as I hunched over my plate protectively, eyeing the others with distrust.
“Don’t touch my food, jerkface.” I warned, smacking Sol’s hand aside before scarfing my food down as fast as I could without choking on it.
“Don’t be so hostile, Tiny.” Sol joked, smacking Mimir’s hand away from his plate with a warning growl and I took the opportunity to swipe some ribs off of his plate with a triumphant grin on my face. “Oi! Those were my ribs!”
“Not anymore!” I laughed, polishing them off and went for thirds, snagging what I could from the plates in front of us as well as stealing from the guys when I felt I could get away with it, only getting bitten once by Jormungandr. By the end of it, we were laughing our asses off and cracking jokes while my parents just stared at the empty table, distress all over their faces.
“How is it that you lot can eat so much?” Mother finally asked, looking at us with a tired sigh. We all shrugged, not really sure what she wanted us to say really.
“Sorry Aunt Anja?” Jormungand finally replied, a sheepish grin on his face. Mother could only shake her head and gesture at the table vaguely, Father muttering under his breath as he went to the kitchens to let the staff know that he and mother needed something to eat.
“It’s alright, just… go on, get out of here. I think the six of you have done enough damage for the night.”
“Aww Aunt Anja, what about dessert?” Gudbrand was trying his damnedest not to laugh and yelped when mother pinched his ear.
“If you want dessert, you can go to the kitchens and get it yourself, nephew.”
I looked at the guys, all of us sitting there for a moment before I was up and out of my seat quick as a shot, racing to the kitchens to get there before they could. There was a chocolate cake in there that I wanted a piece of and I wasn’t going to miss out on it because of moving too slow.
