this is a piece i’ve been working on for a super long time, and 7kpp week finally gives me an excuse to post it!

“The Dowager Baroness of Namaire to see you, my lady.”

Countess Juno de Vradola glanced up from her mending, her expression sharp. She had been quite absorbed, before Erik had interrupted. Only her silver thimble had prevented her from plunging her needle straight into her hand. “My husband stopped taking appointments at half past three,” she said, delicately picking at a stitch. “If this Dowager Baroness’ petition was so terribly important, she should have come first thing this morning, like everyone else.”

“I am aware, my lady.” Erik cleared his throat apologetically, an extra layer of deference on top of his usual opaque courtesy. “But the lady did request to see you, specifically.”

Can you tell us a small childhood memory for each of the delegates?

Ana- one time as a young girl she rescued an injured bird and kept it until it healed. Even when it got better it started hopping and following her around on foot. Everyone else thought it was funny, Ana kept trying to reteach it to fly, but it like hanging out with her better.

Ava- she used to bamboozle bakers and stall-keepers into giving her treats by challenging them to games she was sure they would lose.

Clarmont- Once he and his childhood best friend got lost in the woods and wandered back hours later, carrying the baby bunny of infamy.

Cordelia - She once subdued a bully armed only with an embroidery hoop as a child.

Emmett- He has always loved flowers and plants. His mother was thrilled with the presents he used to pick her, his father did not appreciate the one time he was presented with a weed.

Gisette- She loved collecting brightly colored marbles when she was very young.

Hamin- Once successfully stowed on his father’s ship, but was caught close to shore so was thrown overboard by his dad to teach him a lesson. (He of course swam like a fish from practically birth, but they were ready to save him if something happened)

Jarrod - Jarrod and Gisette’s grandmother hated everyone, but she adored Jarrod. She gave him candies so he would stay with her and everyone else was just happy she wasn’t getting into arguments and sassing people.

Lyon- whenever he was supposed to go do something he didn’t want, he would become an escape artist. Once it took the entire staff an entire day to find him when he didn’t want to go visit his great aunt.

Lisle - When Penelope was born, he used to sneak into her nursery to give her toys and presents. He wasn’t very good at sneaking, but the nurses thought it was cute so allowed it and only took them away from the baby after he had gone.

Penelope - Penelope as a small child would follow Lisle around like a duckling.

Zarad - Zarad used to prank his oldest brother all the time. But he made sure that not only was he never caught, his brother kept trying to tell on him but no one could find any evidence that the prank happened at all.

So far you can meet both Greer (well, *see* her anyway) and Kade. I don’t think Leala will be showing up in person until you unlock her though. (Subject to change of course.)

I'm just asking for drawing purposes, since she isn't coloured yet in the the post where she was first introduced and it would be really helpful to see her if possible! *continues in next ask*

Edit - Picture features the majestic leaning tower of Jiyel. Zarad is despairing over Blain not noticing him and it’s all very tragic. Ana really doesn’t want to be there. Leaning tower of Jiyel doesn’t want to be there either. Jarrod should probably never leave that headlock for everyone’s safety. Hamin has figured out how to float in mid air apparently. Ok I’ll stop I promise.

15 for Evadne!

 15. Friends - childhood.

Okay, so a little backstory here: Evadne’s whole build came into being because I was high on my “start with 75 Manipulation, steamroll the summit” approach to 7KPP, but I also wanted skills/knowledge that would be relevant to pursuing Lyon? So obviously she needed to have Street Smarts, given the week one secret scene with our boy and Falon. And since the Street Smarts text during CC specifies that “[y]ou spent time on the streets learning to survive with your wits” it’s spiraled into a whole thing where Eva was part of a Dickensian street gang during her youth.

Because this was during one of the Lowest Points for the Updegraves, okay, they were struggling financially (per the norm) but none of Papa’s schemes were panning out and Mama had even stopped responding to letters from the debt collectors, rather than trying to sweet talk them with promises of being paid off soon like she normally did. And there were six (out of the eventual nine) children to think of including Eva, and she couldn’t exactly go out and get a job, she was only ten and the industrial revolution has yet to hit the Seven Kingdoms and besides her parents would’ve objected since we’re nobility, Evadne, that means something, you know so. When she saw a boy pocket a pie at Market Day, it was a lightbulb moment of “this is how I’m gonna make sure we can Eat until Mama and Papa Get Their Shit Together.”

The gang was really more of a gang in name only, like, it wasn’t a huge operation. And kids came and went over the years, Evadne included, since she stole on and off from the time she was ten to when she turned fifteen and things had kind of stabilized at home, but there were two kids she did become pretty close to in that time. There was Ilari, the boy she initially saw stealing, who was pretty alarmed/mistrustful when she followed him but eventually warmed up to her when he realized she wasn’t going to turn him in. His family had also fallen on hard times, though that was because his dad had just died (as opposed to being Horrible At Business Deals unlike some fathers), so he related to Eva’s need to do something to help her family until things got better. After a few years, Ilari and his family moved to the Revairan capitol to live with his uncle, who’d recently been employed as a servant within the royal household and thus could support his sister and her children. By the time Evadne made it to court several years later, however, Ilari had enlisted within the military, so she hasn’t really seen her friend since.

Ilari and Evadne both learned the finer arts of pickpocketing from Laudine, an older girl at twelve who’d been an orphan for most of her life. She mainly enjoyed the company the other kids provided, and chose to ignore the fact that they had families to go home to at the end of the day. Eventually, she managed to save enough money to start an apprenticeship within the local seamstress’s guild; Evadne insisted on commissioning Laudine to make her wedding gown, when it came time for her to marry the Baron.

For what it’s worth, Evadne and her friends mainly stole food, apart from a few exceptions when things were Real Bad and she swiped something of real value and could trade it in at the pawn shop (the pawnbroker, having been disgraced during the Coup decades back, could be trusted for her discretion). She did keep a record of everything she stole, however, and once she married the Baron she was able to anonymously pay the merchants (or their successors) back in full. Plus interest, since that 75 Intelligence has to come into play somewhere, right?

Character Names Masterpost

So I’m the type of person who really likes naming characters, and I tend to put a good deal of thought into their names. Though those thoughts range from "this name's meaning perfectly encapsulates this character's personality" to "I'll avoid alliteration if i use this name, works for me", so, y’know, ymmv. Since I’ve finally gotten around to setting up a 7KPP sideblog, I thought I'd take this opportunity to ramble a bit about the reasoning behind my MCs's names. Which turned from “a bit” into “a lot” into “basically one post per MC, please help”.

For those of you who also like names, I really recommend checking out the Nameshake phone app; it randomly generates a bunch of names and provides you with the meanings associated with them, as found on Behind The Name (I think the app might be made by them, actually, but I've had it so long I'm not sure). You can adjust the filters by origin, which is useful if you're trying to give a character a Specific Sort Of Name, and also save names you think are interesting for future reference. I use it a lot in my writing, and the majority of my MCs's names I initially found via the Nameshake app, so it was money well spent so far as I'm concerned.

I wrote the posts in chronological order, so I’d recommend reading them in that order since I sometimes make references to other MCs, but whatever floats your boat, it’s all good. I hope y’all enjoy!
