GOOD NEWS (And some bad)

It's been about a day, almost 2 since I last let ya'll know what I'm doing. I'll start with the bad news.

HOW DO I BACKGROUNDS?! I AM BLANKING ON HOW THE INTERIOR OF NIGHTMARE'S CASTLE SHOULD LOOK! Oh, also: Game takes place in Nightmare's Castle.

Only one location in the place I actually know what I'll be drawing for it. Sadly, it's not even the bedroom that you wake up in. No, it's the f-ing bathroom.

Now: the good news. I HAVE THE CHARACTER SPRITES DONE(ish)! I have the actual basic design for all three that shows up before the route is selected.

And a few outfits too! Not many, but I do have... 3 days left? 4 days left? Anyways... I AM SO CLOSE! The full body sprites underneath- including the POV Character.

Ah, that reminds me... the color for the sweaters that Killer and one of the outfits that Horror can wear isn't actually done. If I am able to finish the backgrounds today, there's a higher chance (IE not zero) that the sweaters will be the actual colors they are meant to have.

Swiching Gears

Instead of having at least one route and no art, I shifted gears into no routes and sketch art. Mainly because I want to ensure that the 'screenshots' are decent instead of just being a black screen. Wish me luck on backgrounds.

As for other things, for now, I'll use default Ren'Py GUI... mainly as I don't have time to make my own. That, and I don't exactly have time to mess with the GUI that is provided with the FL2L game jam.

The version I'll release will... 1) Won't have CGs; 2) Mainly be colored sketch work; 3) End before you pick which route you want; 4) Black and white backgrounds.

OH AND FUN FACT! I HAVE FINALLY GOTTEN A POSE FOR KILLER! I DON'T HATE THIS ONE (I actually liked the original, but that one fills me with dread. This one doesn't).

RIP me. I don't have art for either. I've been focus on writing after all. Today is a major break for reasons called Birthday- not mine though. Mine is in 5 days.

I'll probably have no art in my game. At least on the initial release. Art is second after writing. I don't even have both routes done.

Sadly, none of the art (or even GUI) is made yet. This is an actual screenshots for what game looks like RN- oh and a screenshot of the files in sweet timings.

MEANWHILE THIS IS ALL I HAVE IN MY FOLDERS. Audio and GUI are empty, the fonts folder having the fonts from Undertale... and the raw art files in the images (IE .clip files).

Yeah. Obviously I drew it, otherwise I would have the artist in the description thingy. I kind of wanted to share this anyways... but it slipped my mind and I ain't done with what I've been drawing for the PFP.

That's the PFP pic, BTW! I'll explain who this is in- who knows how long it takes me to finish the drawing. I might have changed a bit of lore on Wendelin. Don't worry though! She's still a tiny skeleton the size of a bitty! To a point...

For the FL2L Jam

Depending on how long it takes me to write this game... and motivation being as fleeting as it is (Apparently)... I might not be able to finish the art for the game. The story is the most important thing to me.

I might extend a hand to another artist to be the person who does the art for the game. I kind of wanted to extend a hand to an artist anyways for the background sketches... mainly because I don't know how to draw the setting that I placed it in. However, I might have another artist even draw the sprites as well.

I don't know if I'll be doing that or not, too. Anyways...

I have gotten to a good point that I am sharing this much! I have successfully gotten to the point were we get the diverging routes! Yaya! Super happy about this!

I'm gonna share the amount of word count that I've gotten through for the 'intro' part. This includes every choice and every line of dialogue one can end up getting during the intro. However, it doesn't include the text in the menus.

We have a total of...

Five thousand two hundred seventy two words!

I have three main characters (maybe four. Don't know just yet) for the fangame. Of course, the character you play as will be the one I'm gonna have the most fun with. However, that's all I'll say about them.

The other two would be versions of Sans. Okay, correction... everyone in this game is a version of Sans. Anyways, the other two is gonna be fun! I get to write a gremlin!

Of course, you should know that the one I'm talking about is Killer. He's always fun to write, being an agent of chaos and all that. I don't know if I'll have him show up in both routes just yet as I do like the idea of him trying to sneak a taste of uncooked batter- yeah. He's gonna be showing up in both routes.

Meanwhile the other is Dust. He's much quieter- well, he should be more quieter compared to Killer. I think I might have given him more lines of dialogue though. However, unlike Killer... Dust has more presence for the game. I'll likely have him only be in the one route to balance out the amount of screen time he gets.

As for my favorite accomplishment during the development? Eh, I don't know. Maybe just the fact that I'm getting this thing done? Yeah, that's probably it.

... Motivation. I'm running into the obstacle called not having motivation. Thankfully, I'm back in the running again, but it sucks so much.

Speaking of, I'll be going and writing more! I'm so close to the diverging path for the game I'm gonna submit. Just need to get through one last scene before we get to see where the two routes diverge from the 'intro'.

non-writers will never understand the mental illness of writing an entire conversation in your head while doing dishes and then forgetting every word the second you open a blank doc
