Exclusive BLOODSHOT BILL song!

Round about 13 years ago I had that dreaded notion of doing "the lead singer solo album." Basic plan was a bunch of covers with various friends backing me up.
I knocked out a couple songs with pals, The Othermen, and one with ol' Columbus cohort, Karen Graves. You can hear those here. That's about as far as it got... for now.
After asking neo-trash-abilly-cranker, Bloodshot Bill, if he'd make a backing track for a song, he ended up sending me an awesome, full version with him singing, and it was too good to slap on a harmony vocal or some such shit. I tripped over it recently, Bill said it'd be fine to post it, so there you go. It's a slinky, slow-burn, midnight walker with some shadowy synth or something creepin' in towards the end....
The original song, "The Storm," is a great B-side on the Rolling Stones' 1994 hit, "Love is Strong." I believe the song goes back to the Stones' '70s heydaze, and it almost sounds like it might've been a demo older than 1994. But who knows...
Upon asking Bill if he had any recollection of making this track, he said, "I remember not knowing the song before u mentioned it…was a cool challenge to do. Was years ago..don't remember much else!"
Thanks again to Bloodshot Bill for the track, and letting me post it lo these many years later.

As we enter summer, instead of posting the Undertones' "Here Comes the Summer" for the millionth time (not that there's anything wrong with that), I came across this fun article about vintage-styled summertime "fun" postcards that feature alien invasions -- and an interview with the Italian artist who made them, Franco Brambilla.
As we're currently being invaded by our own government and its bootlicking armies, it seemed timely. Nevertheless, stay strong and keep fighting, freedom lovers!!

Been meaning to post this - an Aussie news report about the recent sad passing of legendary drummer, James Baker.
I was lucky to get to see him play with the Hoodoo Gurus a couple times, the earliest in 1986 at the Phantasy Nightclub in Cleveland, OH. Got to say hi to him briefly. That show was amazing, and a personal pivotal moment of my life where I knew I would always prefer club shows over huge venues.
Baker had a long, fantastic career, and was by all accounts a great guy, rockin' to the end.
R.I.P. James Baker.

Hey, I'm on Billy Childish's bookshelf!
Well, technically We Never Learn is on Billy Childish's bookshelf. A while back, @newbombturks' bassist, Matt Reber, sent me these pix of a book called Unpacking My Library: Artists and Their Books, which has a pretty self-explanatory title. Inside, Matt's strong peepers noticed that my book, We Never Learn, was in the photo of the legendary British trash rocker's bookshelf. I'm quite proud of this fact, given the intellectual titan Mr. Childish is; though as you can tell from the orange binding, he doesn't have the latest expanded edition, which I should have sent to him pronto.

Quick story -- On our first European tour in 1993, we played a few shows in England, and Crypt Records head honcho, Tim Warren, set up a meeting with Billy at his house in Chatham. We met Billy at his pad, an amazing little home that housed an endless pile of his great paintings, woodcuts, books, and of course records. He made us tea, showed us around the place, and we recorded a few songs in the tiny room he was then using to record most of his music (apparently he did some vocal overdubs and mixing at a local studio). My vox came through the same amp that the guitar Jim was playing went through. Billy yalped along on a cover of his Headcoats' "Youngblood." It was incredible.
Then he took us to his favorite pub where we played snooker (poorly, since it was us yankees' first time playing). We had a few pints, and as we walked there and back, he told us some great stuff about his town -- like how it was once a thriving navel port, and hence housed the largest concentration of prostitutes in England. Dropped him off at his door, waved goodbye, and it was just one of the best days ever.
When I got home I developed the little disposable instamatic camera I had with me that day, and it must've gotten exposed, as only one photo survived of that whole day -- a shot of one of his paintings.
