Tech Chronicles ft.Yoga 8 B6000 Update #1
Hello
This post will briefly cover the mini-improvement of the original Yoga Tab; The device that has filled the role of an e-reader and the tinkering that has gone into it to make it more useful. The TLDR will consist of rooting and bloatware cleanup.
If you’d like to check out the original intro post you can do so here – @Tech Chronicles ft.Yoga 8 B6000 Intro
Yoga B6000 Update
A few weeks back the android workshop re-commenced with my good friend Alistair. We tinkered with more than half a dozen or so devices and managed to get some promising results.
The Lenovo Yoga B6000 was one of the well treated few. It received root privileges which in turn allowed for the installation of titanium backup. That in turn allowed for a thorough analysis and removal of all unnecessary applications.
(It’s Tactical Too)
I would have liked to install a custom ROM on the device but due to the age and specs of the kit it was not a viable option.
Results
The Yoga B6000 will be going into retirement as a solely dedicated e-reader with a estimated bank of 36 hours on a single charge. A target it has hit without fail.
(36 Hours of Reading)
A new shiny case should keep it protected from the worst drops. The tempered glass should keep the screen scratch free for a few years longer. Or so I hope.
(Black was Out of Stock)
It’s surprising what a little bit of tinkering can do to breathe back new life into a device that would have otherwise become obsolete.
Brought to you by MannyJammy & Alistair Have a good day tinkerer.

Virtual Reality – Project floW
VR
Virtual Reality. A topic that has been long overdue here on my platform. The way I see VR today is an encompassing collective of a vast variety of technologies. Ranging from Project Tango to HoloLens or HTC Vive to Daydream, Oculus Rift or Hypereal Pano and even then these but make up the tip iceberg.
(The “Cardboard” Headset)
The capabilities of the technology in question is increasing with every project that is published. Every game, app and video that is made pushes the boundaries just a little further. Now I’m not here to tell you that I’ll be pushing boundaries but I’m determined to give it a fair go.
It’s funny to think about this in hindsight as merely a year ago I didn’t even know what Unity was & now I’m here, asking you if you’d like to see this project developed further.
Project floW Example
youtube
(Video Showcase – Youtube)
This is one of the examples I designed in order to recreate a Vikings scene from the early first season using my final year project. Its sole purpose was to create a transition scene. A scene that could be used as a phase between graphic heavy scenes or as a main menu backdrop. All this was designed with VR at the forefront.
Project floW is currently a menu scene template.

Tech Chronicles ft.Ferrus Manus (Mac Pro Tower)
Mac Pro Tower (2008)
A fun little project I planned back in the middle of 2016 and managed to carry out in early 2017. It involved the conversion of an old Mac Pro Tower into a media hub / insentient render slave for overnight rendering. A big shoutout to the peeps at everymac.com and the documentation they have for the procedure.
(Sturdy Case is Sturdy)
Research showed that the machine was capable of running two Xeons which naturally made me want to push the boundaries. Since the original only came with a single E5462 CPU I would have to acquire an extra heatsink; That and a more powerful pair of Xeon CPUs.
(Heatsink Cover)
Project – Ferrus Manus
All in all the upgrade consisted of 2 new CPU’s, 16GB of extra ram, 6 terabytes worth of HDD and a 120 gigabyte SSD for the operating system. The name itself is another stolen inspiration from the 40K Universe just like all the other personal builds on here. I know you’re here for the specs so here’s the list.
CPU: Intel Xeon X5365 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor x2 CPU Cooler: Apple Mac Pro Heat-sink (2008) x2 Motherboard: Apple Mac Pro Logic Board (2008) Memory: PC6400 DDR2 800MHz ECC 20GBs Storage: Hitachi Ultrastar 7K4000 3TB 3.5″ 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive x2 Storage: Crucial 128 GB Internal SSD – 2.5″ – m4 – SATA 6Gb/s Case: Apple Mac Pro Tower
Amazon wasn’t really useful in this case due to how old the parts in question were so the majority of the list can be purchased on Ebay.
(Even Apple Internals are Pretty)
It’s Running at 32 Degrees Celsius with El Capitan as the operating system of choice; currently used as a media hub and a proof of concept that states “Mantas can upgrade Macs” makes it a little underwhelming so implementing it into my video editing workflow is the next step in this mini venture.
Yours Truly, MannyJammy with another Tech Chronicle P.S If you are doing a similar project don’t hesitate in reaching out for help, I’m here for A.M.As

Mercurial Unity User Guide
Hey @everyone, I hear you want some tips on how you can use TortoiseHg to interact with that online repository you created earlier. Alphe and I have gone and compiled a user guide to help you. Here’s how you shouldn’t do it –
Your checklist before you get started accompanied by the corresponding URL’s: – Unity Game Engine – Downloaded and Installed. – A Bitbucket – Registered Account. – Tortoise Hg – Downloaded and Installed. – A Mercurial Unity Repository – Previously Set.
Your First Pull (The First Voyage)
– Step One; Open TortoiseHg Wrokbench – – Step Two; Define the local project repository (Where you will store the project locally). – Step Three; Enter the Synchronise Tab (Click the Two Green Arrows).
(Sync Tab)
– Step Four; Paste the Bitbucket Repo URL into the text input alongside the Floppy Disk Icon. – Step Five; Save this Path by clicking said Floppy Disk. – Step Six; Pull Incoming Changes
(Commit Tab)
– Step Seven; Input Bitbucket Login Credentials. – Step Eight; Right click most recent revision and update.
– Step Eight.5; Open Unity – – Step Nine; Open Existing Project (Located at the directory defined in Step Two.)
(Unity Test Scene)
– Step Ten; On the settings Go to Edit > Project Settings > Editor > Version Control > and select PlasticSCM.
Once you have pulled the online repository, made changes to the project and would like to update the rest of your team with the progress you made. You will need to push the updated ‘thing’ back to Bitbucket. Here’s how –
Your First Push (The First Expedition)
– Step 1; Open TortoiseHg Workbench – – Step 2; Enter the Commit Tab (One Green Tick)
(Push Scenario)
– Step 3; Refresh file list and select/check all new files. – Step 4; Annotate, Commit & Add Untracked Files. – Step 5; Push this New Commitment. – Step 6; Input Bitbucket Login Credentials. – Step 7; Cross your legs & fingers and hope for the best (Y)
We hope this helped, Alphe & MannyJammy, Over ‘n’ Out

Mercurial Unity Setup Guide
Hey everyone, I hear you need a way to setup an online repo for a unity project using mercurial as the version control. Well here’s how you shouldn’t be doing it. *
Things you will need: – Unity Game Engine – Downloaded and Installed. – A Bitbucket – Registered Account. – Tortoise Hg – Downloaded and Installed. – Webcam – Shameless Amazon Associate Plug.
The Mercurial Unity Setup Guide
– Step 0; Sign into Bitbucket – – Step 1; Create a new Mercurial Repository – Step 2; Create a Team & Add its Members. – Step 3; Allocate User Access.
– Step Four; Open TortoiseHg Workbench – – Step 5; Define the local project repository. (Print out a sticker with the target location, stick it on your forehead and take a photo of it using your newly acquired webcam then send it to us with the #WhoNeedsReposAnyway
– Step 6; Define the .hgignore file found in your local project repo by pasting the ignore list found below into it using notepad. (If you know what you’re doing you shouldn’t be reading this. You have been warned.)
” syntax: glob .DS_Store *.sln *.userprefs *.csproj *.pidb .unitypackage .suo
syntax: regexp ^Build/. ^Library/.* ^Temp/.* ”
– Step 7; Enter the Sync Tab (Click the Two Green Arrows). – Step 8; Paste your Bitbucket Repo URL into the text input alongside the Floppy Disk Icon.
– Step 9; Save this Path by clicking said Floppy Disk.
– Step 10; Enter the Commit Tab (One Green Tick)
– Step 11; Refresh file list and select/check all new files.
– Step 12; Annotate, Commit & Add Untracked Files.
– Step 13; Push this New Commit.
– Step 14; Input Bitbucket Login Credentials and you’re set.
– Step Fifteen; Open Unity –
– Step 16; Create a new Unity Project in the pre-defined local repository space.
– Step 17; On the settings Go to Edit > Project Settings > Editor > Version Control > and select PlasticSCM.
– Step 18; Just sit there and hope for the best haha; Give it a test spin. See if it works and let me know if it doesn’t ~
* Take note as this setup does not allow you to work on the same Unity scene simultaneously. Anyone with better methods / suggestions please do “hit us up”.
A Disclaimer of Sorts
Our particular Mercurial Unity Setup may not be the best but it is a working solution. We have also made a user guide for the non set-up uppers here.
Brought to you by Alphe and MannyJammy, Over ‘n’ Out P.S Don’t try this at home.

“Little” Update
Gifs aside.
It’s been a busy April. To start off this little update I have to announce that I’m nearing the end of my undergrad life as a student. More of an end to the undergraduate part rather than the students’. I hope to continue delving deeper into virtual reality and all its wonderful goodness. With the submission of the dissertation regarding Project – floW I’m more determined than ever.
(Primitive Submission Methods: Posted)
I’ll be sure to publish the paper here once It has passed the exam board. That way I will receive the opportunity to straighten out any shortcomings its submission uncovers. To give you a short description it’s a project that delves into virtual reality interface design through the eyes of an android reticule. More on it later though –
Vidya Gamez
Game-wise I’ve been preoccupied with Dawn of War 3, having participated in the beta it won me over just like its predecessors. This was done with no small thanks to the amazing back story that the authors of black library have given it. Andromeda has also seen some game time albeit not as much.
(Just Beneath the Ice)
Have to shamelessly state that I have also joined the knife ownership club on CSGO –
(‘Taste the Rainbow’).
Crypto-currency has played some part in my downtime where I have been furiously researching the potential “set & forget” investment targets. I could write a dissertation on the topic alone but If you are curious I suggest doing your own research and crunching those numbers before coming to a conclusion.
Fresh updates Inc. This means more articles for you. Starting with Project – MythMountain, the collaborative of TuGameDev2017. Stay tuned ~

FAQ – How do you make Gifs?
.Gif
I hear you like gifs. GIF – (Graphics Interchange Format). The widely supported and portable image format that along with much of the internet; I have come to adore. We have Steve Wilhite and his team to thank for that. Kudos to them.
When I say “gif” or “gifs” I’m referring to the animated iterations. Ones that you see peppered throughout my articles and sites just like the one below.
(From The Mini Project – “90 Days of Doodah”)
Now you know some background info I’ll be giving you some useful tools that I use in order to make my own short animated bursts of creativity.
Your Toolset (Minus Photoshop)
Boomerang; An app for creating perfectly looped videos via your mobile phone. It also allows you to export those videos into gif format when sharing to whatsapp. App Link – Google Play Store
Photoscape; Image manipulating software that allows me to batch edit images and create “gifs” out of them. It has a lot of other features that I haven’t gotten round to exploring so it’s worth checking out. Download Link – CNET
KMPlayer; The desktop media player that I use in order to extract video frames from scenes of shows that I want on my tumblr blog. Link – http://ift.tt/UJAxXe *
Ezgif.com; A gif-makers hub of a site. It has everything you could possibly need to make some cool creations. Link – https://ezgif.com/
* KMPlayer installation “.exe” files come with pre-packaged bloatware that are optional to install. If you don’t want to install junk on your machine I suggest paying attention to the installation process.
(- 24 Hour DK -)
Hope these help ~ MannyJammy, Over ‘n’ Out PS. This post was brought to you thanks to the questions asked by the ladies and gents at my gif outlet on tumblr. You can check them out @ mannyjammy.tumblr.com I’m more than happy to take questions. We’re all learners here.
