Since I liked this comic so much, I decided to translate it.

I always love it when games like Bubsy, Jazz Jackrabbit, and this include short comics to serve as the story section of the manual. They give a better look into the game's world, have incredible artwork, and (in the case of the Bubsy games) contain better characterizations of the characters than the actual game. They're so much fun to read through and make you appreciate what went into making them.
It's great when the official artist for the game draws out the entire story comic as some games have excellent artwork made for them, and comics like this allow you to continue to admire their work. And Ardy Lightfoot is of no exception. I prefer this compared to what they use for the box art.
I should get back to translating Pokémon Pocket Monsters Sun Moon now.

Pokémon Pocket Monsters Sun Moon Volume 1 - Chapter 2
Clefairy puts the beginner Pokémon of Alola, Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio through a series of tests to determine which one of them will join Red on his adventures.
In this chapter, we get to meet Hala and the Alola starter Pokémon. There's not much to say about Hala. He's a lot more in line with how he is in other media. The Kahuna of Melemele Island who is pretty much the strongest there is.
For some reason, Professor Kukui isn't present at this point in the saga, despite him being an important Pokémon researcher. In some other stories surrounding the Sun and Moon series, Kukui would be there right at the beginning to greet the protagonist. Considering how you receive the starter Pokémon from Hala in Iki Town in the Sun and Moon versions, I can take this as a sign that Anakubo tried sticking to what was present in those games. And as we've seen throughout this manga, staying in line with the events of the video games is something Pokémon Pocket Monsters handles surprisingly well.

Despite this being their introduction chapter, there isn't much to the beginner Pokémon themselves.
Rowlet is a little lazy but he has a sarcastic side and questions Clefairy about everything. Popplio is a bit of a jokester and, unlike the others, actually takes a liking to Clefairy's antics; laughing every time he does something stupid. Litten is a calm Pokémon who is the most intelligent of the three besides Rowlet. He's stern, logical, and has no time for tomfoolery. It's because of these characteristics that he has a large disdain for Clefairy.

Litten is aware of Clefairy's stupidity and doesn't care for him very much. In fact, he exceeds Professor Oak in how much he hates Clefairy. He frequently talks about how dumb he is, gets annoyed when Clefairy gets in the way of his activities, and often points out how ridiculous his plans or statements are. Litten even admits right to Red's face that the only reason he didn't want to come with him at first was because being around Clefairy makes him feel embarrassed.
When it comes to Litten, he's a lot more composed compared to the other main characters in Pokémon Pocket Monsters. He has a relaxed disposition and is blunt with the things he says and does. He's practically the most normal character in the manga. A straight man who has to either constantly keep the people around him under control before they do something reckless or distance himself as a means not to enable trouble.
This is something the manga needed since BW. (I wouldn't call Red a straight man as he also acts pretty dumb from time to time.) I'd say Tyrogue was a good straight man, as he would always be focused on training and would keep Clefairy and the others under control. Unlike Tyrogue, however, Litten isn't as quirky and is more strict and straightforward. That's why his cool personality makes him the perfect straight man the manga needs.

This chapter was pretty good. Clefairy's antics are fine on their own, but the Alola beginner Pokémon's interactions with him make for even funnier scenes since they don't react as wildly as Red. (This is especially true with Rowlet and Litten.) At this point in Pokémon Pocket Monsters, I'd expect there to be a lot of filler that prevents the characters from reaching their long-term goals. Instead, there's a proper start to the adventure as Red tries to get his first Pokémon in the Alola region. Unlike the XY series, I actually feel like there's a journey present here with a solid beginning.
As for the Pokémon Red obtains, it's Litten.
I'm not trying to show any bias towards it. Litten is the third Pokémon partner who will join Red in his adventure across the islands of Alola. He appears in the very next chapter alongside Clefairy and Pikachu, he's shown traveling with Red in future chapters (some of which don't even have Rowlet and Popplio in them.), and from what I've seen, he might evolve into Incineroar in volume 4. With all this evidence, it's very obvious that Litten is the third member of Red's team; replacing the often-forgotten Conkeldurr. (Does anyone really like Conkeldurr? He's barely as iconic as Tyrogue.)
This is turning out to be a better reading experience than Pokémon Pocket Monsters XY. Not only do we get to see our heroes embark on a journey, but we also get to see new Pokémon with each new chapter. "Let's Judge Our Alola Friends!" is a good chapter that fixes all the problems the manga has faced for 4 years. It's a fresh new start with refreshing new cast members!
TRANSLATOR'S NOTES
I'm not sure why I didn't bring this up in the last chapter. But I think I should talk about it now. The most well-known thing about Pokémon in Pokémon Pocket Monsters is that most of them can speak the human language.
However, starting with Pokémon Pocket Monsters Sun Moon, all Pokémon can no longer talk.
This is a bizarre change as most Pokémon would always speak the human language. Now they all have their dialogue written in parentheses as a way to provide translations for their speech. This even extends to Pokémon who never talk like Pikachu. Because of these changes, Clefairy is now the only Pokémon in Pokémon Pocket Monsters capable of human speech.
It's never discussed how or why Clefairy is able to talk like a human. The only theories I have for this is that he taught himself how to talk (like Meowth in the TV show) or, being a Clefairy, he is an alien from the moon who is naturally able to speak the human language. Unless the manga addresses this in a future chapter, we'll probably never know the answer.

Weenie Hut Jr., huh? Let's just say that I'm so tough, I have a 42 win streak in single battles and 49 wins in double battles. I could always go for a hundred with either format. (That other SpongeBob reference in the second panel is priceless!)
Does the country this school is located in have a Battle Tower of its own? I imagine it's like the one from Destiny Deoxys where it's above a mall. But who would be the leader or boss of the tower? It couldn't be someone from this school.
to jokull : do you ever go to Battle Tower when not teaching at the university

That's just how things in the art world work. No one can speed through an art piece without destroying its artistic value and beauty. At least you can get the line art and coloring down for a piece's first draft. It takes me weeks to finish any kind of art because of these health issues that are ruining my life.
It feels like I'm wasting my life not being able to work on art while other artists like me can do things with relative ease. At this point, I should just commission someone to draw all the artwork I need. But I don't have the money to have them help me all the time, and they just wouldn't be able to get the style down.
This is turning out nicely so far. I'm waiting for the final version of the piece. Hopefully, you can finish it more efficiently than I ever could with my art.

I miss when i was able to draw like 80 things in 3 seconds because ive been working on this for literally 5 hours now and realistically its going to take another like 8 hours to finish it and its making me want to tear my hair out. Ive been watching 5 hours worth of plane crash, tornado, and radioactive disaster videos while working on this my brain is mush
I guess as a treat heres a preview. Its just a mothers day doodle page with a fun little theme :)

(Turn down the volume around 0:11.)
Since this movie was released before May got her own Munchlax, this might be the first time most people ever saw it. I always thought the scenes with Munchlax in Destiny Deoxys were hilarious. It's even funnier when you remember that before this, Munchlax was playing soccer with a bottle and hesitated whether or not it should leave it there. Then, in this scene, it eats up Ash and the other's lunch before taking off like a rocket. We never see it again until sometime after the Deoxys clones attack Larousse City.
I never realized how timeless the art and animation in this movie is. The show already moved on to a digital animation format years before this movie came out. But most of the film has a specific look to it that makes it seem like it was animated using cels. It makes certain scenes look kind of vibrant and beautiful.
The writing in the Pokémon movies are always pretty solid most of the time. But they really improved with the Advanced series. (This movie and Lucario and the Mystery of Mew are excellent examples of this.) I'm glad I brought this film. I never got to see it when it first aired. Ever since a few years ago, I can continue to experience something I missed out on all those years ago.
(Some of these early 2000s Pokémon films were pretty obscure. I almost forgot everything that happened in Jirachi: Wish Maker until a few summers ago. I guess that's what happens when you tie your releases to a company like Miramax.
Hey you! That was our lunch-

It's bizarre how the cover art for these two books is actually part of one big illustration. (That's what the blog post is talking about.) I think there are some more books in the franchise that do this. But I can't seem to confirm that right now.
I wonder when I'll get to those Kaiketsu Zorori books I have. I could have gotten the one where Zorori meets his mom in heaven. But the class I was in at the time had some tough assignments I had to focus on.
I wonder if I should take a look at the latest book. That one has Noshishi get swapped with a young boar prince who looks exactly like him. The one after that has Zorori and Ishishi try to bail him out while avoiding potential imprisonment. With synopses like those, I want to check out these books even more.

Looks like Team Rocket are slowing down on their disguise game.
This is another sign of how smart the writers made Ash in Advanced. He scanned Meowth with the Pokédex and dismantled Team Rocket's scam right then and there. If this was Diamond and Pearl, he would've ordered Pikachu to Thunderbolt them to oblivion while they were performing their motto. (Meowth didn't even try to hide his tail.)
It's like watching a show when it was still good and being glad the characters aren't as brain dead or terribly written as they are in future seasons. As I watch more of these shows, I begin to realize there was a certain point where the writing and art faced a major decline. SpongeBob, Pokémon, Gumball, all of these shows had something in their newer episodes that just dismantled the quality they once possessed.
Is this what it feels like to practice your critical thinking skills?

This is the reason only people 10 years and older can become Pokémon Trainers...
I should have uploaded this on Children's Day. But I was too busy with class to do anything for it. I thought this was the Children's Day episode from the original series. But it turns out this scene comes from Earl's introduction episode.
I wanted to watch the former episode on the Pokémon website, but I can't find it anywhere. Did something happen to it? I guess Doraemon was good enough of a substitute.

It's been a while since my last Pokkén Tournament DX montage. But I've managed to enter a few good matches this time. Due to upload issues with the blog's web host, I had to use another method to upload the video. You can watch it on the provided web page.
I ran into someone I was able to counter really well. But when I was just about to land the finishing blow, they disconnected. That's been the case with a lot of matches I've had recently. And, these players are either in C or even B rank.

Besides getting some automatic victories, disconnections like that are good opportunities for reference screenshots.
After a few wins (including one against someone I find myself playing with regularly), I made it to Rank B. With how well I've been doing, it's only natural that I went up a rank. My skills are getting so good that my daily win count has risen to 8.
I don't expect to make it to B4 today. But I do plan on keeping a consistent win streak. I also don't know whether or not I should keep uploading gameplay montages from this game like this. I'll probably continue this upload method until I can solve the issue on my host site.

I'm not sure why Arthur is here to celebrate Zorori, considering the fact he's tried to kill or embarrass him on multiple occasions. The same goes for Inutaku. The only time he'd cheer for Zorori is when he permanently gets locked in the nearest jail cell.
It's like having certain people show up to a party under the illusion that all of you are good friends.

A Morenatsu manga focusing on Shin? That sounds like something I'd want to read. I wonder where I can read it...

Oh. I see how it is. Shin's route in the game is complete while Torahiko's isn't, but Shin's manga gets canceled while Torahiko's managed to get out the door. It's amazing how things turn out in life.
This is just as bitter as the cancelations of Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures and the Engllsh dubs for Doraemon and Yo-Kai Watch. (I'll never forgive them for ending that first show on a cliffhanger.)

Yeah... This was probably one of the most strangest things to come out of the manga. Instead of making them the same character, Anakubo tends to make them separate people. This is a trend that's been in the manga since the beginning with there being two Giovannis. (One owns the Game Corner in Celadon City and the other is the leader of Team Rocket everybody is more familiar with.)
I'm not sure where I heard it, but the Bill from Kanto is supposedly the cousin of the Bill from Johto. (Who is the true Bill from other Pokémon media.) Considering I only heard about this years before I even read a chapter of Pokémon Pocket Monsters, it might be nothing more than a rumor or misinformation on part of the person I got this info from. Considering how the manga pretty much retires older characters who share the same name with another who's closer to the source material, I don't think the original series Bill will make any future appearances.
Kosaku Anakubo sure likes presenting Pokemon characters in a strange way.
This is Bill in the “Pocket Monsters” manga, or rather two versions of him.
This bizarre, scary version from the first picture appears in the Kanto chapter of the manga. While the other version, much more similar to his game incarnation appears in the Johto chapter. Inconsistency much?

Gamercat is going to regret that wish...

An overpriced camera accessory that could have been built into the system like the microphone and poor implementation of live backgrounds. That's not mentioning the fact that unless you have friends you can play with and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, the C button (and GameChat as a whole) will practically be useless. If Nintendo is going to utilize something like this for the Switch 2, they'd better have a feature that allows you to join someone in your Friend List who's already playing online.
About the Nintendo Switch 2 itself, I can't really say much about it right now. But as someone who's had a few issues with the original Nintendo Switch for 8 years, I personally believe this console is one of the most backwards decisions Nintendo has ever made in recent memory. With the way things are going for it now, I'm betting this thing will set the company back for a while.

Pokémon Pocket Monsters Sun Moon Volume 1 - Chapter 1
Red pits Clefairy against Pikachu in a Pokémon battle to determine who will be the new star of the manga.
The Sun and Moon saga begins. And unlike the XY series, we actually get a surprisingly good first chapter. Complete with a prologue.
It's surprising that the people of Alola already know about Clefairy and his bizarre antics. In most other regions, nobody knew who Clefairy was, and it was only after they interacted with him that they realized how moronic he could be. CoroCoro isn't distributed in Hawaii, is it? (You could only wish a magazine like this was published in parts of the US.)
The main draw of this chapter is the battle between Clefairy and Pikachu. There aren't any made-up moves used throughout the match either. The attacks used by the two are legitimate moves they can learn. With Clefairy, we get an extensive look at his moveset, which consists of entirely new attacks.

Light Screen is an attack that we've never seen Clefairy use before. Visually, it's a bit similar to Barrier from the second chapter of the original series. But instead of being used at the wrong time, Clefairy uses it correctly. Only to fumble it up.
The other move Clefairy tries to use is Metronome. And despite being an attack that is mostly associated with Clefairy (that's paired more with Togepi these days), isn't really used in this manga. This is the second time Anakubo missed out on including something in Pokémon Pocket Monsters that personally ties to Clefairy. First Mt. Moon and now this. If this Clefairy doesn't come from the moon, I'd be even more disappointed.
Clefairy's final new move is Fire Blast. Here, instead of releasing a giant flame in the shape of the kanji for "great" (大), Clefairy lies on the ground with his body in the shape of the symbol before lighting himself on fire. It's not shown how he hits the opponent with it. But my best guess is that he rams himself into the enemy with great force.
We've never seen Clefairy use any moves since the original series. (The last attack he learned was Sing. But that move was only ever used in Pokémon Pocket Monsters RS.) Most of the time, they're just actions that result in comedic gags. But here, Clefairy is given a new set of attacks, with one of them being a unique use of the move in the franchise.
Zygarde's appearance in this chapter is a bit brief. He only shows up to end the chapter by showing how bad a fighter Clefairy is. I'd be kind of disappointed and even a bit angry. But I think Zygarde's treatment makes sense given the plot of the chapter. It's only natural for Clefairy to prove how much of a fluke his victory was by fighting what could be considered a powerful Pokémon.
I'm actually amazed. "Clefairy Steps Down?! Who Will Take The Lead Role?!" is a surprisingly good start to the Sun and Moon saga. The flow of the story is solid, it doesn't flash ugly faces at the reader as a poor attempt at comedy, and there's a lot of action that keeps them hooked. The battle between Clefairy and Pikachu is easily the best part of the chapter. (You have to remember that we haven't seen a Pokémon battle in this manga since Pokémon Pocket Monsters BW.) It easily makes up for all the garbage I had to sit through during Pokémon Pocket Monsters XY.
I'm looking forward to what will happen in the next chapter!
TRANSLATOR'S NOTES
According to the prologue, Pokémon Pocket Monsters went through a 12-month hiatus.
If you remember an earlier blog post, the manga's last hiatus was in January of this year. While 2 months is fine on its own, an entire year is something else. Given what he did with Pokémon Pocket Monsters XY, a hiatus seemed to have worked well for Anakubo. Given the publication dates of chapters from Pokémon Pocket Monsters XY, this would put the start of Pokémon Pocket Monsters Sun Moon at either the end of 2016 or in the middle of 2017. The latter date is more plausible as the blurb for this volume mentions the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon versions of the games, which were revealed earlier that same year.

Yesterday was the day I uploaded the answer to the last question for my Ask Katz ask blog. I was amazed that I was able to answer so many. There are still a few more questions I wish I had the time to answer. (I'll always remain bitter at the fact that I never got to answer that one question regarding Katz' boss...) I don't know what I'll do with those remaining 4 questions.
I still remember creating the blog a year after I started this one. I was working on a new IP at the time and thought that it would be fun to have the characters answer questions from whoever visited the Ask Katz blog. From the start, it was clear that a few problems would arise. Since the blog was based around a new, original property instead of an already existing franchise, it didn't receive that much attention. Slowly, but surely, however, the blog would reach a sizeable audience and would have new questions sent in periodically.
9 years after its conception, I don't ever regret making it. (I just wish the character designs were better back then.)
What will become of the Ask Katz ask blog now? As I've stated earlier, the blog is finished and won't be updated again. As for Katz and the other characters, this isn't the end for them. If I can get another project out the door, you can be certain that the Battle Cat Squadron will be back to stay.
If you've been visiting the Ask Katz ask blog for all these years, all I can do is thank you for coming along on this long but nearly forgotten ride.

Autism Acceptance Month is finally over, and I don't have any topics I can end it off with.
The one thing about autism is that sometimes, you have to learn how to learn how to face society. Most of the time, you'll feel like a loser who has nothing to look forward to in life. That's why you have to toughen yourself up so you can take on the world and show them that you're not a pushover.
I just wish this month turned out better. I'm always getting left behind in class, never being able to draw to my full potential, always feeling like I'm a joke among my peers. I wouldn't be lying when I say my mental health has sunk incredibly low.
I hope I can get the services I need to improve my life next month...

I think I have something like that in my house. It's a gadget used to clean salads. There's a big button in the middle that you press to spin it around so that the lettuce in the salad can be thoroughly washed and clean enough for eating. I like to press it multiple times in succession to keep a rhythm going.
I guess it reminded me of the Pokéblock Maker in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Those skills really helped me get Glampurr ready to wipe the floor in every contest. If only the food made with the salad tosser and the supposed real life Pokéblock Maker would turn out better with more people using it.

Ever since I saw the maker on Pokemon Advacned Generation, I always had the idea of Hasbro or TOMY selling a Pokeblock maker in real life, it would have you putting actual fruits and/or fruit juice into it and creating your own Fruit Snacks in the form of Pokeblocks, with the center being the mixer and the buttons around it used to cut the pieces into blocks
