wanted to play with a new watercolor and some of my ink pens, ended up sketching a little Caleb. i referenced the pose from an in-game screenshot but otherwise free-handed the thing, and it was really fun to figure out how i'd like to go about the shading right in the moment. wanna try drawing an Essek next, see if the process comes more naturally now that i've had some practice 🙂↕️

I wanted to try to design some Real Wizard Robes for Essek that he would wear for boring ceremonial court events. It just turns out that the best reference i have for robes is graduation regalia so hes giving a commencement speech i guess

don’t you hate it when your only friends show up to your work and quickly dismantle your carefully constructed cold persona in front of your workers with a simple hug?

WIZARD ACTIVITIES WIZARD ACTIVITIES
Obsessed with the phrasing of "the precision of a scholar and the force of a man who understands exactly what he is capable of with magic in his hands" to describe Caleb, incredible, nailed it.
The whole description from showrunner Tasha Huo of their approach to magic is making me SO hyped, this is for ME PERSONALLY, I am being CATERED TO.
“Our approach to spellcasting had to be incredibly specific in The Mighty Nein. The show is full of unique characters whose magical abilities are deeply rooted in who they are as people, and stem from the trauma they've experienced in their past. Their magic reflects their personality. For instance, Caleb — a meticulous and severe young wizard — requires rare materials, measured and used precisely, to cast spells. His magic will look nothing like that of the other characters. We're confident you're not going to see magic like this in any other show."

i'm not in this fandom anymore, but i've been thinking about this lately and thought i'd ask.
the fandom i was in, there was a trans character that i really loved, and since i love writing smut, i wanted to write one that included this character. however, there was no indication in canon of whether this character had surgery "down there" or not (i don't know how to phrase this, i'm sorry), and while that's definitely fine, i saw fans really divided on what the situation was and which would be "disrespectful" to write this character with. i saw arguments against both ways, ones that said without the surgery were fetishizing, and with the surgery were "basically writing the character as cis", which meant i never knew which would be the "right and respectful" way to write this character in smut, since both had been called disrespectful. i ended up leaving the fandom before i could figure out how to write smut for my favorite character.
thinking about this again, how should i have handled this?
This sounds like a situation where people have strong personal feelings about the character being shown as one way or the other, and they're using arguments to make people feel bad for doing the opposite. If they can make you feel bad enough, you'll stop writing the thing they dislike (or at least, that's the assumption)
It happens a lot in fandom. Like, a lot - with characters, with ships, with redemption arcs, you name it.
This character is an imaginary person, and therefore they can be anything at all. There are trans people who make changes to their bodies and there are trans people who don't. They're still trans either way - that "they're basically cis" argument doesn't track for me at all. Transness is about the person and their relationship to their gender, not about what junk they happen to have in their pants at any given time.
As with so many things in fandom, people are going to disagree about what they do and don't want to read. That's fair. In order to allow people to make informed choices, you could add a tag or an author's note so that they know going in and can decide not to read further. If they make a big stink about it after being informed, then that's their problem not yours.
I'm not trans and I haven't written smut for a trans character yet, and I apologize if anything I've said above is ignorant or misinformed. Please do correct me in the notes. I want to be supportive of trans fans 🏳️⚧️
If anyone knows of good tags to use in this situation, please do leave them in the notes. Are there other good ways to make this clear so that people who like a particular interpretation of a character can find those fics and those who hate it can avoid them?

The psychiatrist who wrote the criteria for narcissism just made an extremely important point about what’s wrong with diagnosing Trump with mental disorders
Dr. Allen Frances says in speculating about Trump’s mental health, we are doing a disservice to those who do suffer from mental illness. In a series of tweets, he explained why he doesn’t think Trump is a narcissist — and how harmful it can be for us to keep assuming that he is.

Story time: In which my coworkers thought I was cheating on my partner…with my partner
Ok so B and I are very tactile people. We mostly work from home, spend 90% of our days together, and touch each other all the time in a deeply habitual way.
We also work in the same industry, which means sometimes we go to the same in-person trainings/conferences/events.
We were at one such event yesterday and while a couple folks in attendance knew we were married to each other, most did not. Though, importantly, they did know that we each were married. We both wear rings. We regularly mention our spouses.
So, we arrived together and walked holding hands through the parking lot and, yes, had a smooch while alone in the elevator before we had to be on our professional best behavior (he was wearing a suit, kissing was unavoidable).
When the doors opened we were still a bit close together and got some looks. But I didn’t really clock them until later. We also checked in with each other a couple times through the evening and stepped out for a quiet moment here and there, which some people likely noticed.
So toward the end of the night, I was chatting with some peers and B came to stand next to me with some of his peers and without thinking I reached over to pull a bit of debris out of his hair and without pausing in his conversation, he reached over to squeeze the back of my neck and run his knuckles down my shoulder/arm in thanks.
There was a sudden lull in the conversation and I realized multiple people were looking at us with obvious discomfort. I rewound the last few seconds, considered some earlier indicators, and then hastily said, “we’re married! To each other! He’s my partner!”
And everyone let out a relieved exhale, had a laugh about it, and we continued on.
Whoops.

"Essek would TOTALLY be jealous if he found out about this interaction between Caleb and X character-"
Essek and Caleb canonically have a relationship with some fluidity to it. Essek would be like, "Go have fun, babe, I'll have dinner on the stove when you get home."
