Hey there!
Are you an American? Do you have a sec to stand up for the millions of poor people, disabled people, people with pre-existing conditions and freelancers who rely on the ACA to keep them, y’know, not-broke and not-dead? (Hi!)
Do you live in Alaska, Arizona, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee or West Virginia?
Congrats: you have a Republican Senator who has publicly expressed some concern about repealing the ACA without a replacement plan! If you haven’t already, this is your reminder to give their offices a call and help them make up their minds!
Alaska – Lisa Murkowski:   (202)-224-6665
Arizona – John McCain:  (202) 224-2235
Arizona –  Jeff Flake:  (202) 224-4521
Kentucky – Rand Paul:  202-224-4343
Louisiana – Bill Cassidy:  (202) 224-5824
Maine – Susan Collins:  (202) 224-2523
Nevada – Dean Heller:  202-224-6244
Ohio – Rob Portman:  (202) 224-3353
Pennsylvania – Pat Toomey:  (202) 224-4254
Tennessee – Bob Corker: (202) 224-3344
Tennessee –  Lamar Alexander:  (202) 224-4944
West Virginia – Shelley Moore Capito:  202-224-6472
Sample call script:  “My name is [YOUR NAME]. I’m a constituent calling to thank [YOUR SENATOR’S NAME] for having the integrity and foresight to see how disastrous it would be to [YOUR STATE] and to the rest of America if Congress votes to repeal the ACA without first agreeing on a solid replacement plan. Not only would it jeopardize the health and economic security of millions of Americans, it would also place a tremendous financial strain on our hospitals and our entire healthcare system, costing potentially hundreds of thousands of jobs. As you know, in [YOUR STATE], we [SOMETHING PERSONAL ABOUT HEALTH CONCERNS SPECIFIC TO YOUR STATE; YOU MIGHT WANNA DO A 30-SECOND GOOGLE. IF NOTHING ELSE SURFACES, JUST SAY YOUR STATE BELIEVES IN SOME POSITIVE CHARACTER TRAIT THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH KEEPING HEALTHCARE AFFORDABLE FOR AMERICANS, LIKE “LOOKING OUT FOR YOUR NEIGHBOR” OR SOMETHING.] As a voter, this is a vital issue to me, and I will be paying close attention to how [SENATOR’S NAME] votes.”
Call today if you haven’t already, and bug your local friends/family to call, too!
We only need to flip three senators, so it’s not impossible. Do this before this Friday, the 27th.
I’m sorry to ask this of you–I know there’s a lot of these things going around right now–but I depend on the ACA for my healthcare and I’m pretty damn terrified.

Stranger Things (a wee rant)
My mom and I bond over Gilmore Girls and I thought my dad was being left out so we watched all of Stranger Things together. It wasn’t bad-bad, but there was some awkward tropey writing I’d like to get off my chest. SPOILERS:
1. I liked and believed that Jonathan loved his family. That scene where they (Will and Jonathan) were bonding over music was really sweet. That doesn’t change the fact that taking pictures of people with out their consent is super creepy. No matter how you flip it. Romanticizing obsessive behavior where boys place all these fake ideas on girls, is just gross.
2. This started happening about a third or half of the way into the show but: was the Sheriff punching his way through this mystery compelling to anyone anywhere actually?...nah, it was just lazy.
3. I understand that young people and people in general, often have some stereotypical flaws in the real world. So I wasn’t mad when Nancy dug her basic boyfriend. That was whatever. But, who is she? Why am I supposed to like her? And if I’m not supposed to, what was the intended feeling the writer was going for? Teenage girls have personalities. Their most interesting trait isn’t how ignorant they are to the world and the relationships around them. This can’t be the foundation of how we always write young girls; there’s more nuance there. Also, you can’t just give her a gun and assume this makes her more interesting.
4. Stop killing the Barbara characters. I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN AND I’M STILL SALTY D:<!! I don’t want this to sound objectifying, maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see a lot of body-type diversity in period TV/film. There isn’t enough representation in Hollywood in general though, so I might be reaching. Anyways I liked Barbara. I liked her nerdy Molly Ringwald aesthetic. I connected with her character far more than I did to Nancy’s and this is a position I find myself in ALL dee time. Often these throwaway friends are people of color or people who represent any marginalized group. It bums me out. Please stop it.
Anywhooos, from what I can remember, the kids were pretty cool. I enjoyed it, especially the beginning. And I appreciated it as tribute to 80′s horror films. Just a few gripes.
(Additionally, I would have liked a little more diversity in the cast. And it would have been cool if they tried to humanize the people outside the main cast a little more instead of them all being clueless or cruel or just plain evil.Whatever. I’m done. Bye.)

Wish I would hear about this more often. Especially considering the early ballots are being mailed out tomorrow.
Tumblr media
WHAT THIS MEANS:
34 Senate seats are up for election this year.
All 435 House of Representative seats are up for election this year.
A total of 469 seats in the US Congress is up for election in November 8, 2016.
In order to TAKE BACK the chamber, Democrats need to gain 5 seats.
In order to FLIP the chamber, the Democrats need to gain 30 seats.
Democrats only have 10 seats to defend while Republicans have 24.
Confirmation of a new Supreme Court justice requires 60 votes in the Senate.
Should Democrats fail to retake the Senate in 2016, it is unlikely that they will get another opportunity until at least 2020.
It’s incredibly important that we place attention not only to the presidential candidates, but to the Senators and Representatives that are up for election this year.
