Ghost From Your Past {Creed III} Pt. II
Adonis x wife! Oc x onesided! Dame
Summary: Jade and Dame hang out one on one since he’s been out. Jade is trying to avoid dwelling on the past but it’s so hard not too
Authors note: I have no clue what rode I want to travel down with these two. I have so many ideas but oh my god I’m trying to decide what’s right.
“Hey”
Adonis looked up at the girl standing in front of his desk, a finger pressed in the middle of it. “What happened last night? Did Dame win?” Adonis took a shaky look up at her, unsure of what to say. “Uh…Yeah. He did” Jade smiled as she pulled up a seat. “He’s so amazing, ugh I just know he’s gonna flaunt it when we hang out later” Adonis nodded his head slowly. He really didn’t have the heart to break it to her.
“Why don’t you like talking to me anymore?” Jade tilts her head as her finger circled his desk. “We use to talk all the time” Adonis scoffed. “You mean I use to talk all the time? You never talked” “That doesn’t mean I didn’t listen or studied you” Adonis picked his head up to stare into her green eyes. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Jade flinched at his harsh language. “It means…I can tell when something is on your mind…” Jade reached into her bag and pulled out her yellow pen.
“Remember how I use to draw on your arm to relax your mind?” Adonis nodded and extended out his hand, unclenching his hand as jade gently grabbed his arm. Her thumb ran on the crease bicep and arm, tapping the pen on her desk. “You don’t have to tell me now, but you gotta tell me something” Jade began to outline something on his forearm. “So?”
“I’m sorry…”
Jade didn’t want to get out of bed, she wanted to hide from him and her obligations. She scrolled through her phone, her friends all texting her simultaneously.

Bro is that really Damian???
Jade threw her phone back against the pillow, groaning. “Ugh…” She sat up and stretched, turning to look at the bright blue sky. She had things to do, she can’t just hide from the past in her room. Sudden vibration was felt on her bed, and without a second thought, she reached for her phone and answered.
“Hey”
“Hey Jade”
She paused, cursing herself mentally for not checking the caller ID. “Who dis?” Jade stood up and walked out toward her window. Her hip cocked to the side as she stared out at the city below.
“Oh, it’s uh me. Damian?”
Oh.
“Oh!” Jade laughed awkwardly. “How did you get my number?”
“I asked Seven for it when I met back up with him”
Of course, Seven did. He never respected her wishes once she took off. “Ah. Well, it’s good that you have it now. How are you Dami?” She could hear him chuckle through the phone.
“I’m good peaches. Listen, is there a chance for us to hang out together? Diamond and Precious again?” Jade sucks her teeth, rubbing the side of her neck.
“If you don’t mind coming along to pick up the twins with me”
“Nah! Of course, I don’t mind!” Jade smiles and walked into her closet. “Where do you want me to pick you up at?”
“No, I’ll come to you. I’ll be there in twenty” Dame hung up, and Jade placed her phone on the seat in her closet. It shouldn’t be a big deal, he’s an old friend. She went through all her clothes, pulling out her black tracksuit. She walks out of her closet and threw the tracksuit on her bed. It was her favorite one that Adonis had bought her, it had his first name embroidered in cursive small while the butt of the pants had his last name bedazzled in huge letters.
She grabbed her towel and ran into the bathroom to get a quick shower.
~
“Okay, that’s it…” Jade grabbed her clip and pinned up her braids halfway. Nothing too much, she still looked great. She grabbed her purse and walked up out of her room. She could hear the knocking from downstairs. Jade finally stood at the door, opening it to reveal Damian.
“Jesus, I was out there for five minutes” Jade rolled her eyes and moved the man down the steps. “Not even. Come on, I gotta pick the kids from school” “Oh, I get to run errands with you now?” Dame chuckled as Jade locked the front door behind her. She walked down the steps to her car, turning to the man who still stood at the top of the steps. “You comin'?”
“…Yeah” Jade unlocked her car door and climbed into her truck. “Damn, you sittin real pretty up there” Dame got into the passenger seat. “I thought you would have a butler driving you around” “Nah, I like doing my own things too much.” Dame nodded as they finally pulled out of the gates house.
“Are you still adjusting to change?” Jade asked, side-eying the man in the passenger seat. “Yeah, especially between us three you know?” Dame lets out a sigh as he looked at all of the mansions passing by. “Listen, I appreciate you visiting me for the time that you did while I was gone” Jade stops at a red light. “I thought…I thought it was really fucked up what the court did to you…”
“Twenty years?!” She stood up with tears in her eyes, and her father had to pull her back down before she busted out in tears again.
“You know what’s funny? I wanted to become a lawyer because of you…but when I did study, and try, I could never. I was never smart, like…” Jade laughs as she turns once the light turned green. “I could never pass the bar test. I tried sooo many times” Dame stared at her as she rambled on. “Hold on…You went to law school?”
“Yeah..? I mean the modeling thing was a way for me to pay for everything. But it kinda took off so, I guess I shifted focus after my third attempt at the exam” Jade puts on her blinker and turns into the circle of the school where all the parents were lined up in the area for their kids. “Wow, I…” Dame was at a loss for words, things he didn’t know about the girl. “I appreciate it. I’ll pay you back”
“By?”
Dame grins, placing his hand on her arm. “By winning the belt. Like I told you I would” Jade pulled up at the front of the loop, unlocking the doors for Honey and Blue to climb in. “Dame…I’m just worried for you” She turns in her seat towards him. “You know, we’re getting old. And, fighting like you use to-“ “I fight the same.” He interrupted, turning his head towards the window. “Take hits hard, Punch harder” The twins came running to the car, Blue helping his sister get in before he got in himself.
“Hey! How was your day babies?” Jade smiled looking at the visor mirror at her children. “Good, honey had a good day” Blue smiled, and soon turned to look at the man in the passenger seat. “Do you want me to drop you off at the gym?” Jade asked as she pulled out of the school circle. “Yeah, I promised him I’d be there at a certain time”
Jade began driving to the gym, the rest of the ride was in silence for the most part. “Oh uh, Adonis is having this party and it’s going to have our old friend Bianca presenting a new song. You down to come?” She turns onto the busy street, the gym was right up ahead. “Of course! What, I gotta wear something nice?” Jade laughed and nodded. “If you don’t have nice clothes, I can get you some if you want” She pulled into the gym parking lot.
Dame grabbed his bag from between his legs, gazing over at Jade once again. “You’ve always been a sweetheart. Look out for yourself, and your mini-mes” He climbed out of the car and closed the door. She watched him enter the gym and sighed. She turned around to look at her kids, Blue had an irritated look on his face. “Mom.” “I know Blue, just…” Jade sighs as she pulled out of the parking lot. “Just give him a chance, he’s nice”
“Does Dad really like him?” Blue asked, he had slight annoyance in his voice. “Yeah,” Jade answers quickly. “They were…are! Best friends. Like how Nathan is your best friend” Blue didn’t say much after that, leaning on his sister’s shoulder. Jade tried her best to be transparent with her kids, but it’s difficult when she tries to bury a past of bad choices that are coming to light. She blinks, did she call dame a bad choice?
To her, he was never a bad choice. She loved him deeply, she still does. But it’s different, she’s married, a mother. But…
She isn’t ready to cross that road

Ghost from your past {Creed III}
Adonis x wife! oc x onesided! Dame
Description: Spoilers for Creed 3. Jade, Adonis, and Dame were all friends when they were teenagers. However, things changed when they all grew apart. Adonis and Jade were able to rekindle their love for each other and even start a family, they get revisited by a ghost that they’ve been trying to forget about.
Authors note: I’m mentally ill for these men so I wrote more self indulgent shit. I’m gonna see how many chapters I can string out, it’s pretty weird that I’m going in reverse anyways but who cares.

Jade sat in her window, staring out at the street.
It was about nine pm, and nothing good happens on the streets of LA past eight. But she was waiting for something, more like someone.
Just then, the lights of a car slowly pulled into view and stopped in front of her house. She grins, leaving her window seat to go downstairs. She tip-toed past her father sleeping on the couch and walked out the front door. She had to push open her gate so it wouldn’t make a loud noise if she punched in the code. Afterward, she ran up to the car and leaned in the roll-down window.
“What you sneakin' around for shawty?” Dame grins as he stared at the light skin girl. “I was just comin' by and seein if you were up. Don’t you got class in the morning?” “Both of y’all got class in the morning” She props her arm up on the window, glancing over at Adonis. He was always nervous to talk to her, even after all these years. “Hey Donnie, why so quiet?” The boy cleared his throat, shaking his head. “That’s funny coming from you. Didn’t you just start learning how to talk?”
Jade rolled her eyes. “Yeah, six years ago. Shut up. Where y’all rolling off to?” “My match,” Dame says proudly, tapping the bag that Adonis had on his lap. “I’m ready to win baby” “Ooh! Can I come? Please?” Jade smiles, leaning towards the back seat. “You said one day I can see your boxing matches, come on Dame!” “Nah Shawty” Jade frowns, her bottom lips forming into a pout. “Why not? C'mon, you promised!” “I know I did. I keep my promises baby, You’ll see me. Check it” Dame fully turns towards her, placing his hand on top of hers.
“You’ll see me, my face plastered everywhere. My name on them announcement posters like Mike Tyson, and, you’ll be there front row when I beat his ass. You and Donnie” Jade’s smile began to grow on her face. Her head cocked to the side, “You better not be lying. Because I still think it’s unfair that I can’t see you fight” Jade backed away from the car, “I’ll see you guys tomorrow”
“Bet. The same spot as always” He nodded, putting the car in drive. “Now sneak back into your castle Rapunzel” Jade flipped Dame off before sneaking back into the gates, locking them behind her.
Adonis looked at Dame, nearly having stars in his eyes. “..Cause one day, I’m gonna save you” He pulled away from Jade’s house and went into the main road. “You like her?” Adonis asked, staring out the rearview mirror. “…Something like that.” Dame turns to his friend and grinned. “When I make it, I’ll do my thing with you, bro. Scoop out some ladies, then settle down with her.
I have it allll planned out”
“Come on Honey and Blue” Jade walked out with dry towels as the twins climbed out of the pool. She promised them that on the first warm day, they could do so, but it was drawing close to the sun setting. “Your dad is going to be home soon” Blue removes his goggles. “Will I get to show him my picture I made today?” “Of course, after you take a bath” Blue grins and ran into the house to a bathroom. Jade turns to her daughter, quiet like always. She signs to her.
‘What’s wrong?’
Honey glanced at her, shaking her head. She moved closer to her mother and leaned into her. Now she got it, she missed Adonis. That’s all. “Don’t worry, he’ll be home soon” Jade picks up the little girl and took her to the bathroom.
Hours passed and Adonis wasn’t home, it was weird. He would usually call if he was going to be at the gym late. She sat on the couch with the twins, watching Blue’s favorite Tv show while honey curled up next to her. The front door finally opened and Jade stood up. “I’ll be back, Blue watch your sister” “Okay mama”
Jade walked down the steps to the front door, her arms crossed. “And where were you?” Adonis turns towards her, a smile on his face. “Baby-“ “I called you multiple times Adonis. You had me worried sick!” Jade playfully smacked his arm. “You aren’t gonna believe who I ran into” Jade tilts her head, her eyebrows knitted together with confusion. “Who?”
“Man…This place is nice…” Jade peered passed her husband, her arms dropping to her side and her eyes widened. “What’s up lil lady?” “Dame…?” He smiled, walking passed Adonis. “At least someone remembered me first. No bullshit” He held his arms out, looking at the woman. “What? No hug for me?” Jade had conflict in her eyes. “Yeah, of course!” She hugged the man, it was strange. Seeing him after all these years.
“And who are these little rascals?” Jade’s eyes snapped open and she pulled back from the hug. She turned around and stared at the twins who stood there, Honey held her brother’s hand who greeted the stranger with a hard unwelcoming stare. “Oh, Dame. These are the twins, Honey and Blue” “Twins…y’all had twins?” Dame crouched down to the height of the children, extending his hand. “Im Uncle Dame”
Blue looked at his parents, his glare didn’t falter. “You’ll have to forgive them. The twins aren’t too fond of strangers” Dame chuckled and stood back. “It’s cool, I would be lookin at a nigga weird if someone I aint know was in my house” Jade glanced at Adonis before walking over to the twins. “It’s bedtime babies, I’ll be up soon okay?” Jade moved Blue’s face gently to look at her. “Okay?”
“…okay” Blue took Honey’s hand and lead her to their shared bedroom.
“How is it possible that they both like you and Adonis? That’s just crazy” Dame turned back to the couple that stared awkwardly at him. “Dame, how have you been? Would you like some dinner?” “Oh please, I would love to” Dame took off his jacket and placed it on the coat rack near the door. “I’ve been cool, Just got out. Tryin' to get my PO off my back” “That’s good…” Jade led the two men to the kitchen, and the chef was finishing up the meal. “Yeah, how have you been Jade?”
“I’ve been okay” Jade moved to put the plates on the table for the three of them. “Got your modeling career off the ground? I had all your shoots when I was in the pin” Jade sat beside her husband. “Did you? I always look at my early work and cringe a bit” “Nah, you still look as good as the last time I saw you” Dame watched as the chef poured the food onto his plate. “Private chef, glass floors…yall really went all Hollywood huh” Adonis chuckled and reached for his fork. “Yeah, I guess you could say that”
“No really, you guys don’t come around the hood no more.” Jade sighed as she picked with her food. “Nothing is for us there anymore. Times changed Dami” Dame smiled, pointing his fork at the girl. “Not long enough if you still callin' me Dami. It’s fine”
It was a long awkward silence, mainly on Jade and Adonis’s part. They didn’t know what to say to the man, he felt like a stranger again. The boy they grew up with, someone they just locked away and tried to forget about…he’s here in their house. “So, what do you plan on doing now that you’re out?” “I want to get back in the game” Jade rose her eyebrow. “The game…As in boxing?” Dame smiled. “Yeah, Adonis promised to put me on”
Jade side-eyes her husband quickly. “Did he…” “I told him I’ll see what I can do” Adonis corrected them, stuffing his face full of food. “Okay,” Jade pushed her plate away. She suddenly lost her appetite but she decided to look at the two men. “You know you can always come to us if you need something” “You don’t need to worry about me, Jade. I’ll get it all together” Jade stood up and gave Dame another hug before going upstairs to check on the kids.
~
Jade sat on the edge of the bed biting her thumb, she couldn’t sleep. She was on edge, her heart ridden with guilt. The door creaked open and she turned her head, Adonis stood in the doorway. “Hey,” He came over and sat beside her, leaning his head on her shoulder. “God I feel so horrible” She mutters quietly. “I stopped writing him a few years ago around the time me and you were getting together, I just couldn’t-“ “Hey, Hey” He grabbed her shoulders, making Jade look at him.
“It’s not your fault…You did more than me” Adonis kissed her forehead. “I never even got any of his letters.” Jade took a deep breath and nodded. “Alright…What did you promise him?” Adonis rubbed the back of his head. “Dame wants a shot in the world league to get the belt” “What?” Jade said astonishingly. “We’re getting old, even you are retired! Dame wouldn’t even have a shot against half those young guys now” “Way to have faith in him” Adonis chuckled. “Faith? I’m being real.” “The man said he kept himself in shape, so we can see”
Jade fell backward on their bed, sighing. “Just…Don’t do anything you’ll regret. You…We don’t owe him that much just because we knew him” Adonis stared at his wife as she pulled the blanket on herself. “At least, that’s what I’m trying to tell myself. I’m gonna come by the gym tomorrow to see so myself” Adonis kissed her forehead, stroking her face. “It’s going to be okay…I’m going to check on the kids” Jade snuggled deeper into the blanket. “Mhm…Okay”
Jade tried to fall into a deep sleep, but her thoughts couldn’t help but linger on her old friend. I don't owe him anything, she tried to convince herself. He made that decision by himself, she reminded. But god, it didn’t help her from feeling less bad.

Cracks in the Sun (Euphoria)
This is a little snippet of my euphoria character synopsis. All of this is done by Rue’s narration.
Tumblr media
Jaden Art was the definition of a sheltered child.
Her entire life, her family kept things from her. She was the moment for them, they wanted her to be happy. And in return, she bloomed. She was one of the wealthy families, sitting at the house at the tip of the hill of the block known as ‘rich row’ her family seemed like your average wealthy black family.
Her father, Andrew Art, was an big investor in Jacob’s construction. Him and Cal went way back to College, promising that they’d always look out for each other. Andrew would buy land, allow Cal to put buildings, and boom. They both made their money. Andrew was handed his company by his father, and the rest was history. Well of course, just like every wealthy black family, Andrew was faced with certain scandals. All that were just out to get him like OJ.
That’s not a good comparison now is it, he’s more like Kobe Bryant or Tupac with the false allegations.
Andrew always kept his mouth shut, the coke wasn’t his and the pills were prescribed he’d always say. And every single time he beat them, now he wasn’t technically telling a lie. They weren’t his, and he did have certain medications. But Andrew was hiding and covering for someone. But it’s not like that matters, the cases were always thrown out and swept under the rug just like every other rich person case.
Now her mother, Lashawn Art, was first in it for the money. Her mother would tell her when she first came to America to either get rich or marry into it. And Lashawn did just that, but along the way they did end up falling in love. And it wasn’t one sided anymore, they were both full blown in love. They had two beautiful kids and the rest was history. Some what. Lashawn was somewhat of a trophy to Andrew, he was always eager to show her off. To get her the biggest of diamonds and the flashiest of clothes. Lashawn loved to be envied, you could say that green truly was her color.
Lashawn would always tell jade to never settle for less, to find someone who would go to the end of the earth and come back with the biggest diamond possible and then and only then, consider marriage. It worked for her didn’t it?
Now the woman did have her faults, her faults came as her son. Demetrius Art.
Demetrius was a wild child growing up, he was never humbled. His mother adored him and his father fed his ego. He was fed with a silver spoon, on a silver platter, in a fucking diamond chair. He was a dick needless to say. Remember what I said about Andrew covering for someone? This is someone, his own damn son. Andrew was hoping that one day Demetrius would grow up and get serious, that one day he could take the boy around the office and teach him stocks. But Demetrius was far from growing up actually, he was living it to the fullest.
Demetrius met Fez during middle school and the two of them were practically inseparable. Everything Fez did, Meech did. Everything Meech did, Fez followed. Demetrius didn’t get into the gangs, the dealing, the problems, until his sophomore year. He learned that dirty money was a lot more quicker to get compared to investing, waiting, dealing your cards. With dirty money it comes right to you, with the needles out high and junkies coming to get higher.
His father found out about his side hustle and lost all faith in Demetrius, but instead of confronting him. Arguing, or even talking about it, he ignored it. Hid it from the world, and just like that Demetrius became forgotten to the company and to many people. But hey, his father’s leadership talk did end him up somewhere. He became the leader of Cobra Kings during his first year of college all the while raising his 4 year old son and making sure he was alright.
But back to the person at hand, her. Jaden Art, the golden child. She was Junior chess champion six years in a row, regular chess champion four years in a row. Jaden was never really a people person, she was quiet and shy. She would always freeze when people talked to her and they only found it cute. Jade was everything that her mother and father wanted. A quiet, obedient, soft spoken child. It always took her a little push to talk, to make friends. Andrew ‘forced’ her to be friends with Nate Jacobs. If you ask me, Nate was full of shit since we were kids. If you ask Jade, Nate didn’t become full of shit until eighth grade.
Now Negatively Nate Jacobs being your first friend never seemed good, but he did give jade the push she needed. She met Seven Mckay, from Seven she met two more friends. Sierra and Sekani. Together they called themselves SSS and it just kinda, stuck. Jade was slowly coming out of her shell and needless to say she was proud of herself, she started talking more, smiling a lot, she was like the sun to some people. They could look at her for hours…
Jaden Art continued to be, well her. She was always sweet, never judged anyone. Some would say she was even a saint, others would claim she was just being stuck up. But that all changed when her brother got kicked out of college and was put on house arrest her first year of high school. Demetrius was losing money, he owed people, and he could feel himself slipping at the thought of his family getting hurt. He couldn’t find a solution to move the drugs and money without getting caught until…
“Meech? Are you okay?”
His baby sister, naive and worried. She’d do anything to make sure he was straight. He swallowed a lump in his throat as he picked up a black book bag.
“Hey, can you take this to Fez for me? Make sure you keep your head down and watch everything around you”
Now that should’ve set every red flag off in Jade’s head but she smiled and nodded her head. “Yeah!! Uh!! And we’re gonna watch movies when I get back right?” Demetrius mustered all the courage to put a smile on his face, nodding. “Yeah, Sixteen candles. It’s our day now” Jade took the book bag and walked out of the room, Demetrius watched her from his bedroom window that day. Guilt pooled in his stomach, unknowing to jade, she got herself into the game.
It was like that for two years, every time Demetrius was in gang or legal trouble jade would deliver his things to the buyer, the seller, to whoever. Jade was happy to help her brother, it meant they got to hang out more. And that’s all that really mattered to her, she truly really cared for him. But after awhile, Demetrius stopped needing her help. He stopped coming by, and eventually she rarely saw him. She was lonely in that big house by herself, her mother was too deep in her head and her father was so busy trying to impress his business friends with how beautiful his daughter was.
Jade learned that getting out more was for the better, hanging out with Seven. They even had a thing for each other sophomore year much to his brother’s annoyance. Or, getting high with SSS to even forget everything that burdened her. Now jade hated drugs, she was the goodie two shoes who actually followed the dare pledge. But when she got high that night, she never wanted to come down.
“Holy shit, look at Shante” Sekani giggled seeing the girl pull Seven in for a kiss, his hands couldn’t stay restricted to one place. They went up her hoodie, in her pants for a bit. For a moment she was focused, on him and only him.
Then the high came down and she felt like shit. There were unexplained marks and hickies on her neck and stomach. Seven became clingy and wouldn’t leave her alone. But the very next day, the girl had to do what she’d did best and put on her pretty yellow dress with the bow high on the back. Followed by the mask she always wore and practice so hard in the mirror to make sure it didn’t falter as she prepares to head out with her family to do whatever rich people activities they’d do.
And just like that, that was her life. It was short and sweet, something that people drooled over to have. To me, I could as tell she was a bit miserable. You can always tell, because when the sun shines you can always see the cracks left behind. But that was the beauty of being her, everyone was too blind to see. I wasn’t though, I saw her for her. And I guess that’s why I fell in love…But this isn’t about us anymore. Only her, and the prettiest of sunshine was going to get her wake up call to what such a cruel dark world we really reside in.

Dove in the water
A little story a wrote based on a few conversations I had with friends and I have a huge obsession with Jason from Friday the 13th. So, enjoy. This is not revised.
Tumblr media
“Okay! Everyone line up!”
Jason frowned looking at his painting, he wasn’t quite done yet and he didn’t want to leave until he was done. “Jason, come on it’s time to go outside” He looked up at the camp counselor, Miss Marie. He gripped his paper looking at her, he could tell she didn’t like being left in a room with him alone. He picked up his paint brush and continued to paint, ignoring her. She lets out an annoyed sigh, putting her hand on her hip. “Jason, you can do that later. Come on” Jason continued to ignore her, finally her patience ran thin and she left the room. He liked to be alone, hell he was sitting at a table by himself in the first place. No one didn’t want to be near him, befriend him. His mom said it was because he’s special, but he couldn’t tell if it meant good or bad now a days.
“Jason, what are you doing?” He heard a softer, more kinder voice enter the room. He looked up to see Miss Nicole, a frown remaining on his face. He’d thought she’d understand more then anyone. “I’m finishing my painting Miss, I’m almost done...” She moved over to take a seat next to him, peering over to look at his paper. “What are you painting?” His eyes lit up hearing her have interest in what he was doing. “I-It’s a painting of me and mom! See!” He started pointing at the many places on his picture. “We’re sitting by the docks watching the sunset!! And- oh no!!” Jason accidentally knocked over the red paint bottle and it spilled on his painting. Shawna quickly picked it up before too much could spill.
“It’s ruined...” he muttered looking at the red paint splatters. “Hm...I don’t think so” He looks up at Miss Nicole as she grabbed her paint brush. “Red doesn’t always have to be bad” “Red is the color of blood...” he muttered looking at the red splatters. It reminded him of the kids pushing him around on the playground. “Red can be the color of many things, like...Red birds!” He watched as she added red birds to the sunset of the sky, his eyes slowly watching in interest. “This red building” She adds the mini red camp building to the corner of the painting. “And finally, a red boat in the water!” She painted a red boat near the docks where him and his mother were standing. Just like that all the red paint was no longer a spill, it was apart of it.
“Wow!!” He said excitedly. “It’s done! I want to show mom!” Shawna giggled and rubbed his shoulder. “How about we let it dry first, then show mom okay?” Jason nodded his head as he carefully carried his painting over to the drying rack. “Don’t forget to wash your hands Jason!” “Okay!” Jason quickly washed his hands, drying them with the paper towel before throwing it in the trash and walking back over to Shawna. “Do I have to go outside Miss Nicole? I -I really don’t wan-“ “It’s only for a few more minutes, then it’s dinner and bedtime. Can you do that for me Jason?” He started fidgeting with his fingers, looking down at his feet. “Y...Yes ma’am” Shawna smiles and gives him a hug before opening the door for them.
Marie was outside the door, rolling her eyes as Shawna tapped Jason on the back for him to go play. “You know, you need to stop babying that boy” Shawna watched as Jason played in the sandbox by himself. “I’m not babying him...I’m teaching him a new found appreciation for things. You gotta teach kids to look on the bright side” Marie scoffs crossing her arms. “Whatever, I’m just saying just because he’s...special doesn’t mean the rules don’t apply to him” “I understand that” Shawna sighs pinching her forehead. “You just gotta be patient with him, you know the other kids necessarily don’t like him” Marie looked back at the kids playing around with Louis, Andrew, and Phil.
“Yeah...I know...But they’re kids. They don’t know any better” Marie muttered. “Exactly, I get that but...it takes time” Shawna smiles, he seemed so happy and content with himself. “Hey!” Marie and Shawna turned their heads to see Marcia walking up to them, taking off her gloves and hairnet. “Gather up the little fucks, it’s dinner time” “You did not call the children that” Marie said shaking her head, slightly amused. “Yeah, I did. The faster we get them to bed, Steven said we can have a bonfire tonight” “I’m down, I’ll get Jason first. Jason!!” Jason looked up hearing Shawna call out his name, she held out her hand with a kind smile. “Come on, aren’t you hungry?” He nodded his head silently as he stood up and dusted the sand off his shorts. Marie and Marcia watched as he took Shawna’s hand. “I say, give the kids five more minutes so I can get Jason situated? You know how Miss Voorhees is. Come on Jason!” “What’s for dinner?” He asked her as they started to walk off to the dining hall. “Oh I don’t know, your mom and Miss Marcie made it!”
~
It made Shawna sad that Miss Voorhees made Jason eat dinner in the kitchen with her while the other kids ate out in the hall. She wanted to figure out a way for them all to get along despite the differences they shared. “Nicole I have to thank you” Shawna looked up seeing Miss Voorhees wash the dishes. “Oh do you need help? I can-“ “Nonsense child, just have a seat” She sat silently next to Jason who was eating his sandwich. “You have a heart of gold Nicole, I know some people would’ve just given up with my boy” “Jason? He’s just like everyone else Miss Voorhees” She smiled looking at the boy finish off of the foam plate. “Be a dear and get him ready for bed? Me and Marie are in charge of cleaning the kitchen”
“Of course Miss Voorhees, are you done Jason?” “Yes” Jason got up and threw his plate in the trash. “Be a good boy Jason, mommy will be up soon” Shawna bit her tongue, their relationship sometimes made multiple people uncomfortable on the camp grounds. Shawna tried to past it for mother and son but it was just weird. Shawna held out her and Jason took it quickly as they went out the side door. “Okay, what do you want for a bed time story tonight?” Jason’s eyes lit up as he started to stutter on his words. “Green eggs and ham? I love that book!” Shawna giggled as they walked into the cabin. “I do too!”
~
“I do so like green eggs and ham! Thank you, Thank you! Sam-I-am” Shawna closed the book to see Jason fast asleep in bed. She puts the book on his nightstand as she quietly tip toed out of the room. She carefully closed the door and sighed, once she turned around she jumped being met with Miss Voorhees and her signature creepy smile. “Oh! Miss V! I -“ “No need for excuses, I can tell he’s asleep” She puts a hand on Shawna’s shoulder. “Tell me Nicole, do you want to have kids?” Shawna nodded, curling her finger around her braid. “Yes...I do” She pats Shawna’s shoulder before moving past her to walk into Jason’s room. She side eyes the girl, giving her a tight lipped smile. “You’ll be a great mother Nicole. I know you would be” The door shut and Shawna stood in the hall for a moment. A smile appeared on her face as she started to walk out the building to the bonfire.
~
“Louis one more drink you’re gone for the night” Marie smiles as she watches him get a hold of Marcia’s mystery flask. “Whatever she carries in that thing is strong as hell!” He shakes out his head before passing it over to Andrew. “No thanks, I don’t like to drink” Andrew passes it back to Phil who shrugs. “Don’t be a downer Drew” Louis said slapping his back, Andrew glared for a moment before rolling his eyes. “Hey guys! Sorry I’m late!” Shawna came jogging up to the logs. “I was putting Jason to sleep!” “Jesus Christ Shawna, you treat that boy like he’s your son” Phil took another hit from the flask. “He’s a sweet boy Phil, if I were to have a son I’d like him to be like Jason” Louis paused for a moment. “Without the uh, facial deformities” “Jesus Christ Louis” Marie pitched her nose. “You aren’t supposed to point that out”
“I’m just saying! That’s the face only a mother could love!
“I’m sure when he gets older he’ll find someone” Andrew adds as he brought his stick over to Shawna. “Marshmallow?” Shawna smiles and took it off the stick. “Thanks Drew” She gave him a kiss on his cheek before putting the marshmallow in her mouth. “Someone will come his way, rather it be love or friendship. He’ll find someone” “I hope so, but truthfully I say he just need tough love” Marcia says as she snatched her flask back from Phil. “Hey...” He frowned looking at her down it in one sip. “The boy has...too soft skin. He shouldn’t let words hurt him” Shawna leans onto Andrew’s shoulder as they started to listen to Marcia go on her rant.
“Tomorrow is our last day” Louis stretches. “For the most part, Steven and Alice said we can let them do whatever they want. Pickup is gonna be twelve thirty so that means we can leave around...one?” “Thank god!” Marcia stood up and stretched. “I finally completed my community service!” “Seriously? Is that why you were so willing to sign up?” Louis started to pour water down on the fire to put it out. “Yeah, it was either this or picking up trash. I’m just shocked they trusted me around kids for three weeks straight” “Aren’t we all” Marie says grabbing the jacket Louis gave her. “Come on, I’m tired. We’ll see you boys tomorrow” Marcia and Shawna followed Marie back to their cabin.
“God, I think that marshmallow made me sick” Shawna muttered holding her stomach. “You sure it was that?” Marie teased nudging her shoulder. “What? Are you trying to say that I’m pregnant?” “Gross” Marcia gags. “I mean, you could be. Your motherly instincts been out of control lately” Marie opened the cabin doors for them to walk through. “I told you guys, I just really love kids. I hope this is a step for me to become a nurse or maybe a pediatrician!” Marcia taps her back as she closed the cabin doors. “You have big dreams, but I think it’s time for you to go to sleep” Shawna fell onto the bed with a sigh. She was right, dealing with kids could be very tiring but it still didn’t change her mind.
~
It was their last day, a free day. The kids could do whatever they want, under supervision of the counselors. “Did you show your mom your painting?” Shawna and Jason were sitting in the shade watching Andrew and Phil deal with the huge group of kids. Phil was covering for Louis who went god knows where with Marie. “I did! She loved it! She said when we get home, she’s gonna hang it on the refrigerator!” Shawna smiles as she presses her head against the wooden wall. “I’m glad she liked it, and there you were about to cry over happy little accidents” She poked his stomach causing him to laugh. For a moment it was quiet between them, watching the group at play.
“Miss Nicole?” Shawna looks down at him, titling her head. “Yes Jay?” “You made this summer really fun for me! I can’t wait to see you next summer!” Shawna smiles and rubs his shoulder. “I can’t wait either”
“Shawna!” Shawna looks up to see Marcia storm over to her and Jason. “It’s your turn to make lunch. Get to it” Immediately she saw how Jason’s face formed a sad one. “Alright...give me a minute” Shawna stood up and turned to Jason. “Now, Jason-“ “I know...” He mutters quietly to himself. She bit her lip, trying to think of anything to make him feel better. Her eyes lit up and she crouched down in front of him. “What’s your favorite animal Jason?” She said as she fumbled with her sash filled with pins.
“Birds, they can fly anywhere and aren’t judged. I want to fly too...Fly away from here so no one can judge me” Shawna felt her heart throb with pain. She just wanted to hug him and tell him otherwise. She pulls out a bird pin and smiles. “Here. If you’re ever having a bad day, one of your mid day burst, I want you to look at this and think about all the people who care for you and would do anything for you” Jason looks at the pin, it had a white dove. Beautiful graceful birds, something he wasn’t.
“My mom is the only one who cares”
“Of course! It’s mother’s love! I care for you too, and so does Mister Andrew, and Mister Lou, Phil, Miss Marie, and Marcia!” Marcia glanced at them for a moment before looking elsewhere. “Now, I’ll be back as fast as possible. But keep that on you okay?” Shawna stood up and started to walk away. “Wait!” Jason jumped up. “Aren’t you gonna want it back?” Shawna smiles and rubs her chin. “I’ll get it back when we come back next summer, okay? Promise me you won’t lose it” Jason grips it in his hand, nodding his head. “I promise!”
“Cmon, Miss Voorhees is waiting!” Marcia pulled Shawna along, leaving Jason alone near the cabin. He could do it, it’ll be a short period before she’ll return. He held the pin tight in his hand as he made his way over towards the sandbox. He was trying to enjoy himself, making castles and what not until his sunny view became crowded. He looked up to see that he was surrounded by a group of kids, all of them looking down at him in disgust. “What are you doing in MY sandbox?” One of the kids said, kicking the sand in his eyes. “I -I’m sorry! I didn’t know it was your turn!” He stood up just for them to push him out of the sandbox. He winced in pain feeling the palm of his hand get cut on a rock. He heard their laughter grow louder as he struggled to stand up.
He didn’t understand, why? What do they want from him? He didn’t bother them at all, he was really missing his mom. He was really missing Nicole. He looked around, trying to spot any other camp counselor but he couldn’t see one in sight. He got up and just, ran. He didn’t know that they were gonna chase him, they kept throwing plastic buckets, shovels, and rocks at him as he tried to run from them. They backed him into the dock area, he was stuck. They were closing in on him, all laughing and giggling. “Stop!” He screamed. “Get away from me!!” He felt a hand shove him backwards, far enough. The water consumed him fully, he didn’t feel anything for a moment before it hit him.
He can’t swim.
He was screaming, crying for help. “Mom! Mommy!” The children watched, one by one they ran off to god knows where. It was getting hard for him to stay above water. “Nicole!! Nicole!!” His face was slowly going under, water getting in his mouth every time he spoke.
I can’t breathe
My legs hurt
Where is she...?
She wouldn’t let anything happen to me....
“Jason!!” He heard the scream of her voice, her hand went into the water, trying to reach him. “Jason!!”
I can’t...
His hand tried to reach hers, his vision was blurry. He felt the warmth of her finger tips graze his.
“Come on Jason! I can’t reach you!!”
I can’t reach you...
Just when her hand went to grab his arm he started sinking to the bottom. Shawna watched in horror seeing him not be in reach. She screamed, her screamed echoed through the area. “Shawna?! What happened?!” Andrew came running up with children on his side, he was doing archery for their last day. “Ja-Jason!! He-He!” “Where is he?” Andrew handed his bow off to the boy next to him, holding Shawna’s shoulders. She points down in the water and his eyes widen. “Some kids grabbed me when I was making lunch! Miss Voorhees went to grab the med kit b-but-“
“What happened??” Louis and Marie came jogging up to the scene, Marie was buttoning up her shirt. “Shawna why are you crying?” “We need to call the police and the paramedics. Jason drowned, Shawna could reach him in time” Louis covered his mouth in shock while Marie stared at the ground. “H-He what?!” “Where is he?!” They all turned to see Miss Voorhees walk up with the first aid kit. “Marie, go call the police” Marie nodded and quickly took off before Miss Voorhees could approach her. “Where’s my son?!” “Miss Voorhees I need you to-“ A hard smack was heard and Both Andrew and Shawna flinched seeing Louis get smacked by the old lady.
“Nicole” Miss Voorhees approached her, tears in her eyes as they made eye contact. “Where. Is my son?” Shawna shook her head and she sniffles, “I’m sorry Miss Voorhees, I wasn’t quick enough” They saw her stop, her head shaking as she repeatedly screamed out no. Shawna held her to the best of her ability as she cried into her shoulder. “I’m sorry” She repeated, she wasn’t clear who she was sorry for;
If she was sorry for Pamela, or if she was sorry for Jason.
Sirens closed in on the area and children were escorted inside the building.
Guilt was the only feeling they all felt for a long time.
———-
He watched from the trees, she finally returned. She kept her promise, and he had to keep his. Would she even recognize him? The changes he went through? He’s much older now, he can say what he wants.
He wants her, he wants her to be in his arms. He wants to be in her arms, one last time if necessary. He looks at the pin in his hand, his thumb rubs over the dove. Even after all these years, he was still gentle with it. Graceful, he could see why she gave him this pin over the pigeon one he saw in her sash that day.
She saw something in him no one ever did, beauty. But she was in distress, upset.
“You’re overreacting”
“Okay, Whatever Billy. I’m going for a walk”
She walked off from the group, another familiar face from the group called out for her. Marie? But she looked more kind then the one he knew all those years ago.
He followed the girl as she took her walk, taking deep breathes as she done so. The wind blew her braids back so he got to get a great look of her face, he grips the tree branch. He was excited to face her again.
“I told you to leave me alone Billy”
“You move your mouth so much that you don’t even know when to shut up”
He gripped the tree branch, it snapped from the force. He didn’t like this, billy. He didn’t like the way he was speaking to her. He grabbed his machete and started to move in closer.
“Just give me another chance baby, I’m sorry”
No, no more chances. Not with someone who’s his. He shoved his machete right through his his stomach. He enjoyed listening to his chokes and pleads for her to run. He yanked it out and he fell onto the ground, he turns his head slowly to her, watching her shake in fear. He slowly started approaching her, her back was stuck against the tree. She had no where to run.
“Y-You’re Jason...” She muttered gripping the bark of the tree. “I -I’m sorry. Please, Please don’t kill me” His eyes looked down at her, he didn’t want her to think that. He drops his machete in the dirt and reached out to wipe the tear coming out of her eyes. She calmed down for a moment, but became confused. “What are you...” She looked at his other hand, he opened it to show a dove pin. He moved it closer, signaling for her to take it.
“I’ll get it back when we come back next summer, okay? Promise me you won’t lose it”
‘I didn’t lose it’ is what he wanted to say, ‘You’re back with me now. I’m bigger now, I can protect you. Protect us’
Her hand was shaky when she finally grabbed the pin, scanning it. She turned it to the back and her eyes slightly widened. “This...This is my mother’s handwriting. How did you find this?” Jason tilts his head, mother? He points his finger in her chest, trying to formulate his words.
“Ni....cole...” His voice was raspy after not being used for years. “No...I’m not Nicole” The girl replied, she held out her hand. It reminded him how she used to do it for him to take.
“I’m Jade. I’m her daughter” Jason perked up hearing that, he crouched down a bit trying to get a better look at her. It wasn’t her, but the energy was there. He could see that she was still scared, and if he let her go she would leave. But he didn’t want her to leave him, not again anyways. He grabbed her arm and threw her over his shoulder. “H-Hey!” He picked up his machete and tapped her back with his hand that was holding her. “Jason!”
“What are you doing?”
Taking you home, he wanted to reply. Taking you with me,
It wasn’t a mistake that they came across each other and he knew it, they were meant to meet. And in the words, there are no such things as a mistake. It’s only a happy accident.
