someone on tiktok was asking why do people treat zero day so poorly in compared to other fictional movies that are based in reality and it really got me thinking so! autism rant!

i’m gonna say this as a fan of the movie, but a big reason is because of how intricately tied to columbine is to the movie. this is the same for elephant, in fact, many moments in both movies that i didn’t like were almost all because they were direct columbine references either from facts of the case or conspiracy theories that were popular at the time.

for zd in particular, it’s moments like andre saying ‘natural selection’ while cal is shooting or when andre works at a literal pizza shop (i also understand this was andre keuck’s irl job atm but still worth pointing out) these tiny details that didn’t need to be there takes the viewer out of the fictional immersion and reminds people of the real tragedy.

Why do you say Cal would commit a familicide? Not judging at all just genuinely curious and want to hear your thoughts 🙂‍↕️ !

hi so first off i don’t really think he would, but of the two, would be the most likely. see, his reasoning for zero day is less revenge based compared to andre’s. in the final will & testament tape in andre’s basement while he is going on about how people at school have mistreated him, cal stays silent. andre also switches from using ‘we’ to ‘i’ in this moment, implying that cal doesn’t share the same sentiments or memories. i don’t think it’s wrong to say cal did get bullied or was ostracized, look at the prom scene with rachel’s friends who obviously was weirded out by him, but that wasn’t his main motivation for zd.

cal wanted to leave a message. in his solo tapes we get to see his thought process more clearly on the plans and he never once mentions people who bullied him, instead focusing on himself. as i’ve said, by january he knows he’s gonna be dead in a couple months, but it feels like he already planned on it since the beginning. but he doesn’t want to just kill himself he wants to cause destruction and chaos around him, which is why he goes along with zero day. i mean let’s look at his last name, gabriel, which seems to be a reference to the angel gabriel from the bible, who was the messenger to let mary know she’ll was pregnant with the son of god.

cal very much doesn’t care who he killed, we see this early on in his tape where he’s playing the sitar. “people are gonna be like ‘oh, i had cousins in the school’ and i just… good for you.” (not a direct quote going off of memory) he has detached himself from everyone else’s lives at least by this point but we can take this evidence and believe this has been his thought process since before zero day was fully thought out.

taking everything i said, i believe it’s enough to say that if zero day wasn’t a thing, he still would have gone off and done something terrible and i don’t think familicide would have been entirely off the table. anything to get his message of destruction across to the world, even if his own blood was the collateral.

when thinking about ‘what if’ scenarios in the world of zero day, many people talk about what if they called it off, if they backed out. most of the time, these headcanons typically follow cal being the one to call it off. however, going off of the characterization from the movie, there’s more evidence pointing that if one of them were to back out of zero day it would be andre. by january, cal is fully set on dying. he’s ready while andre has already postponed zero day (whether intentional or unintentional, up to you). cal makes it clear zero day from the beginning was a suicide mission for him, he already planned his death but he wanted to leave a message with his death. of the two, i think he’d be more likely to have committed a familicide if he had access to guns outside of andre (though that’s a topic for another day).

honestly, i could be convinced that yeah, maybe cal would call off zero day in another universe. however most of these hcs seem a little ooc for cal taking away canon divergence as a whole. if you believe that he WOULD call off zero day i would love to hear your thoughts

i watched duck for the first time last night and after a whole day of thinking, i think it’s a godawful movie but that’s the charm of it. the sound mixing, the lighting, the acting, etc was all shit, however i probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it if all of that was good quality. it was also funny as hell. i would love to analyze it but its so on the nose theres like nothing to dig deep. whatever, those were my thoughts

We need to show some respect for the victims families. Have fucking common sense.

"But I'm on the tcc" I don't give a fuck if you are or not, showing respect is common sense.

You barely had respect for other shootings and now you are all doing the same. It's okay to be interested in the shooting, what's not okay is to not show respect.

Get out of your small edgy room and show some respect because of what happened. You all say "Oooh school shootings are amazing¡ Ooh" But if you were in one or one of your family members was there, you'll be fucking terrified.

If you ever feel like harming people or harming yourself. Please, look for help.

It's okay to have thoughts, but making them become reality is not normal. Hurting people, yourself or both is not okay. Please seek help.

I know lots of people are not able to look for help, maybe because of money or it's just difficult for them.

andre and cal need each other for zero day to happen. if andre was alone, sure he’d have a plan and the means to do it, but he wouldn’t have the right push for him to go through with it, i see him abandoning the plans if he didn’t have cal. meanwhile w cal, he has that push, that drive to go through w it, but if he acted alone he wouldn’t have a plan and harder means to get the weapons. in the end, they are a match made in hell. despite the odds, they become friends and are able to commit this horrible tragedy
