Once again, DO NOT donate to the huge scam aka Red Cross to support relief/humanitarian efforts of Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. We all remember what the Red Cross did with the $500 million it received to build houses after the earthquake in Haiti back in 2010.
Haitian-led orgs you can contribute to directly for relief efforts: Konbit Mizik, Haiti Communitere, ACFFC, Sakala Haiti, SOIL, Fondation Aquin Solidarité , Volontariat pour le Développement d'Haïti, Lambi Fund, MADRE, Sowaseed, Konbit Solèy Leve, Sakala
Non-Haitian Orgs with proven track records in Haiti: Doctors without Borders, Roots of Development, Partners in Health, Border of Lights, Nova Hope for Haiti

“Books can not be killed by fire. People die, but books never die. No man and no force can abolish memory... In this war, we know, books are weapons. And it is a part of your dedication always to make them weapons for man's freedom.”  ― Franklin D. Roosevelt

Hey guys! We still have that lame-o icon that we should replace. If any of you have a suggestion/idea/picture you want to use, you can submit it or send it to Becky and just ask her to forward it to me via email.  I mean come on, it's a math shape. Who wants that as their icon???

We’re talking about story. Esther’s story is powerful because it’s all of our story - we face hard times, trauma, painful things, we look for meaning in those hard things, we look for people to love us and people who we love. That’s how we see her story.
Lori Earl on the Accio Books stream. (via thehpalliance)
Okay, again this isn't necessarily about the HPA, but it still holds meaning. Esther Earl was a girl with cancer, she died at 16, but she was... inspirational , her story, her life, is what spurred the creation the the This Star Won't Go Out Foundation. TSWGO is an organization started by Esther's parents to help families with children who have cancer to pay for their medical bills. What Esther went through, all of the hard times, trauma, and painful things, everyone goes through that, too, and those issues are shown in the Harry Potter books, too. But, like Esther, Harry pulled through those rough times and he kept smiling afterwards, and that's the most important thing, is it not? Too keep smiling, despite the pain and the hardships, one of the things the Harry Potter books and Esther's story teach us is to keep smiling, to push through those hard times and remember that there are people waiting beside you who love you and are willing to take on some of your burden, to keep you from falling to far and to pick you up when you do fall and they were unable to catch you. Again, sorry for the rambling, but this holds meaning for me and I hope it at least means a little to you guys, too~ :)

So this isn't necessarily about the HPA, but it does hold meaning. It's because I read Harry Potter as a child, and I continue to read the series to this day, that I want to start a chapter. If I didn't love Harry Potter as much as I do, and have a love for helping people, then I would never have thought that creating a chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance at school would be a good idea. I am so grateful that J.K Rowling wrote these books, but also that I was able to read them and they have shaped my entire life, it is because of these books that I am the way I am. The issues expressed in the novels are, unfortunately, reflected in our world, the media ignoring important issues, bigotry and hatred, but the HPA is trying to stop all of that and I love that I am being given a chance to be part of this and I hope you all will join me in this endeavor and have just as much fun as I know I will be having! :) ...I'm sorry for rambling, by the way, but it's all true, so~
