Despite your initial expectations; Today, unfortunately, was not destined to be a normal day for the townspeople. Your mere action of hitting a palace guard was deemed fit enough to be arrested for, apparently. What sort of rule was that when it came to defending yourself?
Title and rank aside, was it not acceptable to set your foot down in situations like this? According to the guards, townspeople and even Bakugo, it definitely was not.
“Assaulting the King’s men is like assaulting the King himself.” The guard spat, the corners of his mouth curling into a snarl. “To think you’d be able to get away with thievery was a foolish act in itself. But to raise a hand against authority? You are just asking for all sorts of trouble, Miss.”
Intimidated by his words, you cower further behind Bakugo, trying to hide yourself from their line of sight. Of course, this tactic was futile and seemed to only anger the guards even more.
“I do apologize for striking at you, sir, but I’m afraid I cannot give you my bracelet.” You weakly explained, clutching your wrist that adorned the said item closely to your chest. “It is the only thing I have left of my mother.”
Despite the current events unrolling, Bakugo couldn’t help but look back at you in pure confusion. The current Queen was still alive and well, why would a bracelet mean so much to you when you could see the gifter herself? Although you noticed his gaze on you, you didn’t meet the blonde’s stare. Instead, you firmly glared back at the red-faced guard, observing the way his fingers twitched towards his sword’s hilt.
“Enough of these feeble lies. If you are not going to cooperate with us, we have no choice but to arrest you and charge you for your crimes.” He abruptly unsheathed his sword and held it up to intimidate you further.
Before the gleaming metal of the weapon could come down to falsely strike, the attacking guard’s face was whipped to the side from the impact of a leather shoe. You audibly gasped, quickly looking in the direction it was thrown from to see the striking sight of Mina’s pink form a small distance away.
Bakugo took this opportunity to swiftly lower himself and deliver a sweeping kick to the man’s ankles, forcing the guard to topple over and into his companion. Rising back to his feet, Bakugo grasped your hand and began to run from the guards.
You risk a glance over your shoulder, seeing that Mina was no longer in your view. Their actions had worked nearly harmoniously, and you wondered how often they came into such encounters in order to read each other’s thoughts so well.
As you were dragged by your initial captor through the town’s streets, you nearly tumbled over only for him to catch your tilting figure and steady you once more. The straining action of running had you gasping for air in little to no time, but you forced yourself to match his pace.
You had managed to escape through the town by following an entirely different path that led to an opposite destination of where the campsite was.
“It’s to lead them on an empty trail.” Bakugo had briefly explained during your running, hand gently coaxing yours with a firm grip. If you weren’t in such a dire situation, you’d be flustering over the contact of the opposite sex.
Once Bakugo was certain you were a safe distance from the town, your pacing slowed to a brisk walk.
“To think you’d be stupid enough to hit a person as big as that guy.” He huffed out, helping you over a protruding tree root. “Well, then again, I’m sure it’s not all that uncommon to raise a hand to people who do not do your bidding.”
Your heart wrenched painfully at his words and you pulled your hand out of his grasp. You both halt in your steps, him turning back to look at you, a single eyebrow raised in question.
“I’ve never struck anyone before today,” your voice was barely audible due to your heaving breaths, but Bakugo hears you all the same.
For a brief moment, he found himself staring at you in scrutiny. Your eyes showed no signs of lying, but he knew of the horrid actions of the cruel princess through idle gossip. He categorized the look in your expression as a well-practiced one.
“I’m one to believe the victim before the abuser, I’m afraid.” He replied, shrugging his shoulders.
You wrapped your arms around yourself, lowering your gaze to the leaf-covered ground. It was true that Bibi had assaulted the help on more than one occasion, and to be accused of doing such things yourself made you ill to no end.
“Hey… Why didn’t they recognize you?”
You forced yourself to look back at him, and wrack through your thoughts for a convincing response.
I’m not Bibi.
I occupied the part of the palace that didn’t have many guards stationed.
I’m not Bibi.
I’m the bastard princess. My life isn’t worth enough to protect in our father’s eyes.
I’m not -
“Well, not everyone is allowed to see the Royal Family. The Commander is the only person that takes direct orders.”
“I see.”
The rest of your afternoon consisted of circling back in the forest, skimming the borders of town as you made your way back to camp. Throughout the time it took, the coil in your gut only seemed to worsen.

Two uneventful days pass on, and you begin to wonder if the king was actually going to send a search party for you. Did he care enough to even do so? You liked to fool yourself into believing he did.
Although you were still determined to distance yourself from Bakugo and his group of mischiefs, this apparently was not a mutual goal. For one, the crew members - save for Bakugo himself - tried to include you in activities such as laundry, herb picking, cooking, and… fishing. You were no longer invited into town and you were admittedly disappointed with this.
Your visit to town the other day was interesting, and you quite enjoyed seeing the daily, normal lives of your people.
It was during your treacherous chopping of scallions that Bakugo waltzed up to you and asked if you wanted to go back into town, as it was apparently the last day you would be in this area before you were to head out for travel. If he noticed the shock on your face, he did not comment on it, as you humbly accepted his invite.
So, here you were now, walking the cobble-stoned street paths with Bakugo. Mina had accompanied you both, claiming she needed some new… things. As soon as you arrived, she promptly left you alone with the blonde.
“Is there any place you’d like to visit?” Bakugo asks, looking over his shoulder to glance back at you. You had internally refused to walk beside him based on pure stubbornness.
“I don’t know this town well enough to choose someplace.” Your honest reply causes him to purse his lips.
You follow his long stride in shorter steps for some time before you hastily stop yourself from colliding into his back from his abrupt stop.
“Let’s visit there, then.” His forefinger is pointing at a modest-looking restaurant that has a couple of tables outside for its customers’ leisure. “If I remember correctly, they’ve some good dessert dishes... Do you like sweets?”
“I quite enjoy them.”
“Perfect.” The grin he shows gives you an unsettling feeling you are unable to pinpoint a name to.
In the midst of crossing the street, Bakugo throws out an arm to stop in your tracks once more. You bump into the sprawled limb, gazing up at him in question.
“Royal guards.” He hisses out in a tone that’s all too venomous. You look towards the restaurant, noticing a trio of palace guards exiting the building. “Let’s turn around and head back to camp.”
“Is there a problem with the guards?” Your question is asked in pure innocence but you receive a scowl in return.
“Did you forget your minions would recognize you?” His hand lands calmly on your wrist.
Oh.
You allowed him to hurriedly guide you away from the restaurant, and the guards. Biting back a frown, you stopped yourself from telling him the guards would never recognize someone they’ve never seen before.
“Halt right there.”
On second thought...
“Fuck.” Bakugo curses, slowing to a stop before turning around - you also turn, finding the guards were now trailing after you two. Once they are close enough, he calls out to no guard in particular, “What seems to be the problem, sir?”
A heavy-mustached guard motions in your direction and your breath lodges itself in your throat. Do they know you? The sudden hope that fills you does not last long, though. “We couldn’t help but notice that dazzling bracelet your lady has here.”
“What’s this now? You noticed such a thing from that distance?” Bakugo’s attempt of jestering dies off in vain much too quickly once he notices the steely sets of eyes that were glaring down at him.
You subtly hide behind his figure, tugging down the sleeve of your shirt in the process to conceal your emerald-crested accessory.
“I’m afraid we have no choice but to be under the assumption that this article of clothing has been stolen.” The same guard explains, his right hand now hovering over the hilt of his sheathed sword. “We’ll have to confiscate this from you.”
What?
“How dare you assume such a thing.” You fight back. “This was a sentiment from my mother; it was not stolen.”
“False justifications we’ve heard before and have grown tired of hearing. Now, hand over the bracelet while we’re still asking politely, Miss.” With a nod of his head, a fellow guard begins to reach for you.
At the same instant Bakugo is pushing you away from the guard, you have knocked back his outstretched hand with an audible slap. Bakugo visibly stiffened at this realization and you knew you were in trouble the moment the guard’s face began to transition between thirty shades of red.
You grasp onto the frozen blonde for coverage, fear now taking its course through you. In a whisper so low and almost inaudible, you hear his muttering;
“Now you’ve done it.”

Midnight, you came to find out, was a curvaceous woman who was still living out her youthful days despite reaching her thirties. She had warmly welcomed your trio into her shop after seeing your companions, and even offered to start tea before her eyes settled on your figure.
“Found yourself a lady, did you? Who's the lucky one?” Her teasing words only cause your forehead to scrunch in distaste.
Kirishima let out an awkward laugh, “Our relationship is strictly business, ma’am.”
Midnight hums in response as she settles behind a counter decorated with an assortment of trinkets, and a medium-sized fish bowl filled halfway with colorful wrapped hard candy. She pushes aside some of the items, allowing herself room to settle her arms.
“What brings you back into town? Been quite some time since your last visit.”
“Passing through, just like always.” Sero replies, stepping up to the counter. “We brought something you may be interested in.”
Her eyes glimmer at the mention of the unknown item and she layers out a hand, palm faced towards the ceiling. “Let’s see it, then. I’m always fond of the things you bring me.”
Sero wastes no time in showing off your earring and placing it in her awaiting palm, much to your silent irritation. Folding your arms over your midriff, you cast a glance around the shop to view the variety of goods she had to offer.
“Now if that isn’t the prettiest piece of jewelry I’ve seen,” she comments, bringing it closer to her face. “Where’s its twin?”
“Dunno, we found it.”
“Mhm-hm, I’m sure you did.” She flashes the duo a knowing smile and casts a brief glance your way. Midnight reaches underneath her counter only to bring back up a leather-skin pouch. “How much would you like for it?”
“How much are you willing to offer, ma’am?”
Midnight digs into the pouch and pulls out several silver coins - six, to be exact - and offers it to Sero. “Will this do?”
Of course, not. You weren’t sure how much the pair of earrings was, yourself, but you were more than aware of it being on the pricier side.
“It’s more than what we were expecting.” Kirishima bashfully admits as Sero pockets the money.
After a few more exchanges and a heartfelt goodbye sent your way, Midnight sends your trio off back into the now bustling streets of town. “Take care now, will you?”
Before you can register your actions, you find yourself curtseying out of pure instinct. She raises an eyebrow but says nothing more; instead, she promptly closes her shop’s door with a dismissive wave.
“Here.” You turn to look at Sero who’s holding out a closed fist towards you.
“What is it?” you question, cautiously staring at him.
“Your money. The earring was yours, no?”
You timidly open your hands, allowing him to unenthusiastically dump the coins into your palms. “I didn’t think I would be given the money.”
“Well, it was yours, so it’s only fair for you to keep the money.” Kirishima explains with patience. “I think we mentioned this before, too. You’ll need to be able to support yourself during the short time you’re with us.”
Before you can question his choice of wording, Sero had beaten you by nudging his friend in a not-so-subtle way. You weren’t sure what Kirishima meant by your short time period, but you decided there were bigger things to dwell over.
Like purchasing a new change of clothes that actually fit you.
♕♛♕♛
You were surprised to find out how cheap clothing was when you purchased three blouses, matching pants, and even a pair of shoes that didn’t have heels attached to them. You had four silver coins left to spare, although no clue what to spend them on in the future. You doubted there would be another time you would need to.
The boys lead you back to camp once your trip to town is over. It was close ro lunch hour by the time you returned, finding Mina and Denki were beginning food preparations.
Your stomach twists unsettlingly at the sight of speared fish being grilled over the small fire.
“I see you’ve returned with no restraints on you.” Bakugo calls out to you from his spot on one of the logs. He was busying himself with descaling one of the fish.
“Would there have been a need to?” you walk by the small group as you walk to your shared tent.
“If you did anything stupid, yeah.”
The hold on your clothes tighten as you release a breath through your nose. You open the tent’s flap and crawl into it. Settling onto your knees, you fold the clothes in a snail-like fashion in order to lengthen your time to yourself.
Why did it have to be you who was put into this situation? You’d done nothing so wrongful that it would cause you to be the source of blackmail. You brush off the thought. It wasn’t you who was being used as a hostage. No, of course it wouldn’t be. No one knew of your existence, other than the castle staff who had been sworn to secrecy.
Y/N, the bastard princess of her kingdom, was a secret amongst her own people. Public appearances made by her were during balls that were held inside the castle, but the King refused to let her be treated like his kin during such events. During those dreadful nights, she would either attend as a guest or be absent entirely.
Folding the remaining clothes, you set them aside. You maneuver yourself in a way that allows you to change shoes, and you let out a quivering sigh.
Hot tears prick the corners of your eyes and you pitifully sniffle, rubbing them away with the back of your hands. How pitiful, indeed. You’re a sad example of royalty, and there was not a single soul you could confide in.
Outside, Kirishima casts a curious glance towards their crew leader, silently wondering why he was staring so intently at the tent you occupied.

Growing up, you had witnessed how the male staff were able to run their errands quicker than the females, and during the time of curiosity, you found yourself carefully watching their actions. Why did the men finish getting a message across faster than the women?
After much scrutinization and days of overthinking this unconcerning subject, you couldn’t find the answer until today.
Pants.
This article of clothing allowed their legs to stretch just that much further than the suffocating skirts of a dress allowed its wearer. Your curiosity was now subdued because of this simple answer, all due to the thanks of Jirou, much to your bitter dismay.
She lent you a pair of old clothing - consisting of a worn out, blue blouse and stained tanned pants - that you reluctantly changed into. You didn’t dare ask whose it was, in spite of what the answer may be. With a small sewing kit she carried around, she helped with having the outfit fit better to your form.
Apparently, walking around in your previous attire would attract unneeded attention during your trip to the nearby town. You had to admit, albeit to yourself, that the clothing was quite comfortable and your ease of movement greatly increased. You allowed yourself to continue wearing your mother’s ruby-crested bracelet, but your other jeweled accessories were stowed away with your other belongings.
“Princess? Are you okay there?” You look towards the tent’s closed fap, seeing Mina’s shadow hovering near.
You had gradually learned everyone’s names throughout your stay last night. During supper, Bakugou had introduced his group of bandits with prideful authority. He had taken great care to tell you about each member, and it was notable how fond he was of them - despite claiming otherwise.
It was also during that time you found out you would be sleeping on an uncomfortable, makeshift bed inside an old tent that smells sickeningly of campfire smoke. To make matters worse, you shared the space with the group’s female members.
You were more than displeased with the arrangements and due to the overbearing situation in its entirety, you hadn’t slept much during the night. Being abruptly awoken by the clanging of dishware and joyous chatter did not improve your sleep-deprived mood this morning, either.
“Yes, I am finished.” You call back, making your way out of the tent. You startle from nearly bumping right into Mina as the woman herself takes a step back, hastily. “Oh, my apologies.”
“The fault was mine.” She offers an apologetic smile before tilting her head to the side, motioning towards Kirishima who stood by the smoldering campfire. You scan the camp site, finding Bakugou nowhere in sight. Was he sleeping in?
Your eyes squint into a glare upon looking at Kirishima. Just looking in his or Denki’s direction was enough to have your blood boiling all over again. So when Bakugou had announced - demanded - you’d be accompanying Kirishima and Sero on the town trip, it was enough to send you internally fuming.
“All set, Princess?” The corners of Kirishima’s mouth lift up into a polite smile that you choose to ignore. “We should head off to town now. There should be a few shops open at this early hour and Bakugou wants the trip to be as short as possible.”
You make it a point to show him that you’ll be openly ignoring his existence by walking past him and in the direction of the woods.
“Uhm…” Sero begins to laugh, bringing the back of his hand against his mouth to muffle the sound. His tone has a hint of smugness in it, and makes a show of pointing behind him, “You’re going the wrong way. Town’s this way, Princess.”
A red hue decorates your face within seconds and you vehemently curse him under your breath.
♕♛♕♛
The walk to the town couldn’t have been more than twenty minutes, but because you were quite inactive during your upbringing, you were struggling to keep your breathing at a normal rate. A thin layer of perspiration was beginning to collect on your forehead and other areas of your body that made you want to squirm in disgust. This amount of discomfort was alien-like to you. Were the others not affected by this?
By the time you reach the welcoming gate of town, you want nothing more than a cold glass of water and a cushioned seat to rest your aching feet on.
“I forgot to mention this earlier,” Sero grabs your attention as your small group passes the tall, iron gates, “don’t think about running off. For one, I reckon you wouldn’t get very far just by seeing how the walk took a toll on you. And on another note, the townspeople wouldn’t believe you if you revealed yourself. Not with the way you’re dressed.”
The smile he offers doesn’t reach his eyes, causing chills to take through you. This was not just a warning, but a threat hidden underneath.
“Do you think Midnight’s is open?” Kirishima muses aloud from behind you. “She’s always been the best at buying things from us.”
The ravenette thoughtfully purses his lips, taking a moment to think before responding, “I think she is. Let’s stop by, anyway. Bakugou asked us to talk with some of the town residents to check how everyone is doing, too.”
“Does your group come here often?” you find yourself asking.
Kirishima nods in answer. “We tend to move around a lot while we do odd jobs, but we always end up hitting the same places. This town in particular is a frequent stop for us. They’re always having trouble with the Royal guards.” You notice the side glance he gives you, and for a moment, you’re unsure why.
You then realize Bibimi had taken responsibility for the planning and deployment of the Royal Family’s guards earlier this year. Of course there would be trouble with the guards. Just your luck.
“I see.”
“Yeah, well, I’m sure you know all about that.” Sero adds. He brushes past you and walks in a direction you assumed Midnight’s shop was in. After a few steps, as though remembering something, he stuffs a hand into his pocket before pulling it back out in a closed fist. “Kiri, what do you think she’d give for this?”
He opens his hand, allowing you to see the shiny piece of jewelry that lies on his palm. You let out a sharp gasp upon seeing what he was displaying. “You took one of my earrings?”
“How else are we going to pay for your clothes?” he retorts, rolling the small pearl stud in his palm. “You didn’t think you’d be given stuff for free, did you?”
“I expected no such thing, but I also did not expect for you to rob me so soon.” You bite out, folding your arms against your chest for an attempt at some sort of comfort.
“It’s not robbery if it’s being used for your benefit in the end. And news flash, you’re not royalty out in these parts.” He purposely plays with the earring a moment longer before pocketing it. “It’d be best for you to stop expecting to be treated like a princess, got it?”

“I fear I’m having trouble understanding you.” The uncertainty you’re feeling resonated in your voice.
Corrupted? How dare he speak of the King - despite how unfatherly and inhumane he is at times - in such a way. And yes, your foul-tempted sister could be tiring at times, but you knew her to be anything but corrupt.
“Feigning innocence, Princess Bibimi?” he tilted his head to the side, his blond locks shifting from the subtle movement. Refusing to stare at him any longer, your eyes locked onto his fists instead, watching their subtle clenching.
After collecting yourself, you spoke up once more, “Your choice of words against the King can be misinterpreted as treason.”
“You’re mistaken,” he began, and you began to sigh in relief when he continued on, forcing the planned exhale to lodge itself in your throat, “it’s not a misinterpretation.”
You’re shocked back into your silence once more and at this point, you’re unable to fully understand what the hell he is talking about. Had he gone mad whilst hiding away in these woods with his own bandwagon of thieves?
“We’re nearly close to camp and I’m sure the rest of the group is getting antsy to meet our special guest.” He was already walking away before you could say another word, forcing you to begrudgingly follow close behind him. “Come on, Princess.”
Your fingers intertwined, wringing themselves against each other. “How large are your numbers?”
He fought back a snort, “Do I look as though I could afford more than a handful of men?” Your ears burned at the mocking words. “Six.”
“Six men?” you repeated, eyes widening.
“And women. We’re able to get the job done more efficiently due to our small number, and it leaves a more generous pay for each of us.”
Having nothing more to say, you looked past his figure to see makeshift tents coming into view.
“I must warn you ahead of time that our group is rather rowdy. They are all good people at the end of the day, though.”
“How good can thieves and kidnappers be?” your voice came out bitter and resentful.
“Well, I reckon we’re on the same tier as the royal family. Which isn’t too high, really.” His words stung and the anger in you was beginning to boil again.
“You have no right to talk about my family this way. If you continue to speak in this manner then-”
“Then, what?” He looked back at you once more, eyes squinting in scrutinization. “I don’t know if you’ve realized this by now but you have no power outside those castle walls. As of right now, you’re no one in these parts of the area.”
“Ah, Bakugo, you’re back just in time!” A third voice chimed into your uncomfortable conversation and you found yourself almost thankful for it.
It was then that you realized you hadn’t known this man’s name until seconds ago.
Bakugo.
You hated it, already. You hated him and the way his eyes glinted in pride upon looking at his scattered crew.
“Mhm? What for?” His aggressive tone didn’t let up.
He left your side, leaving you alone to fend for yourself in the new and unknown territory. You watched with weary eyes at the camp’s occupants, mentally noting that only three other members were present.
“Princess Bibimi?” Your gaze landed on one of the female figures that was seated by a worn down fire pit. “Would you like some water? I’m sure you must be parched.”
You stay rooted in your spot, not daring to fall for the mock generosity. “I am quite fine.”
“Don’t bother, Mina.” One of your captors, Denki, from earlier sat beside her, stretching out his legs in an annoying fashion.
“It would be poor manners if we didn’t offer her at least something as simple as water.” She pursed her lips together for a brief moment, then brought her attention back to you. “Are you sure? It’s purified, if you are worried about that.”
“I am not -” you halted your words, and tried to collect yourself. You were undoubtedly angry at the situation, but it would be a smart move to at least keep hydrated. There would be no benefit in risking your health for pettiness. “I suppose a sip or two would do.”
Mina shared a gleeful smile with her female companion beside her. “Please, come sit over here. Sero will be getting a fire up before dark.”
You’re unmoving for a few moments. Should you continue in being defiant, much like you did during your argument with Bakugo, or would it be for the better to act docile until the right moment comes for your departure?
“Thank you.” You murmured out, timidly walking towards the trio. You smoothed down the backside of your dress’s skirt and awkwardly sat upon the log across from theirs.
You would gain their trust slowly, and when the moment arrives, you will escape their clutches and have them punished for their actions.

You lost track of how much time was spent travelling. You assumed their hideout was located somewhere deep in the forest as the rustle of trees and the snapping of fallen branches were your only indication of constant sound.
The men rarely spoke with each other - presumably because of your presence. You feared hearing even just a sliver of information about your captors could result in your untimely death. It wasn’t as if you weren’t afraid at the moment, because you most certainly were.
You were ripped away from the safety of your home and are now in the hands of ruly men whose main goal was unknown. Is this a hostage encounter? Bibimi and yourself were briefed as children on what to do in situations like these.
The basic rules were to be followed: Remain calm, always comply with the enemy, never provoke your captor, and do not unveil secrets of the Royal Family.
You could proudly say the last one would stay unbroken, but as for the others… Well, we can leave it at that.
“Just up ahead now.” One announced, bringing your senses into high alert. You felt your heart rate pick up and the familiar feeling of your anxiety began to seep its way back into your chest.
Your horse came to an abrupt stop after its owner’s command, causing your body to shift forward. To your horror, this small action was enough to start a chain reaction where your body began to slide off the saddle and in your blinded and immobile state, there was nothing you could physically do to stop it.
Your legs began to dangle loosely off the animal’s side and your entire figure tensed up in the moment, your body unsure of how else to react to the situation. You felt yourself slip further off the horse and with gravity’s help, your body fell.
Your mouth flew open for a shriek yet it stayed lodged in your throat as you felt yourself fall against something that was definitely not the ground. Arms wrapped themselves around your midsection, causing your muscles to run taut and still. No one had dared to ever touch you in such a forward way.
You lurched forward, escaping the person’s arms only to bump into the horse - it snorted in response to your bruteness.
“Easy there.” You weren’t sure if the new voice - a male’s, you noted - was talking to the animal or to you. “Hold still for a second, will you?”
Hands were placed roughly on your shoulders, guiding you to turn around in your spot. The same pair helped untie your blindfold, allowing you to finally take in your surroundings. Upon the harsh glare of the sun, you turned your face towards the ground, eyes involuntarily closing shut.
After this quick action, you bring yourself to look up and your gaze is captured by captivating brown eyes. They’re squinted, with eyebrows furrowed to top the look of scrutiny off. Their owner’s appearance is rough-looking; with his mouth pressed in a thin line, jagged spikes of blond locks, and red eyes scanning your own. You curse yourself for having the simple thought of him being attractive.
“I assume the trip wasn’t to your liking?” he questioned, the corners of his lips curling further downwards. His voice is unsurprisingly deep - the last trait to complete his rugged look. “We figured you were used to horseback riding, in one way or another.”
He motioned to his companions, who were finally unmasked and you sent hard glares to the duo. The blond grinned at you while he unloaded their traveling packs on the horses.
The other simply shrugged, “It wasn’t as difficult as you made it out to be, by the way. After figuring out which room was hers, it was smooth sailing from there.”
“I apologize for the easy finding.” You retorted. “We will try to the best of our efforts to make it harder for you next time.”
“There won’t be a need for the next time.” He simply laughed before heading off further into the forest. Your body flushed with heat as you quickly grew angry at his words.
“Don’t pay mind to him. He likes to tease.” You looked back to the man in front of you.
“And who should I pay attention to, then?”
“Well, that all depends on you, Your Highness.” he teased and you cringed at the title. He grasped your hands, and it’s only then that you noticed the dagger in his hand. You flinched away, trying to escape his grip. He grunted, pulling your hands back, “Hey, don’t move. I’m just trying to cut the restraints. I don’t need to nip you and have you bleed.”
He skillfully tore the bounds in one smooth motion and your wrists cried out in relief. Out of reflex, you rubbed the irritated skin, hoping to ease the sudden numbing sensation.
The man seemed to take notice of this. “Jiro is good at aiding us with cuts and the sorts. She should have something for the discomfort.”
Why would someone who was in the same group as your captors want to help you? You found it hard to believe his intentions came from sole kindness. You were most likely here for ransom, so there was the possibility they would want you with little to no harm done.
“You’ve got the horses, Denki?” he spoke out to the man that was tending to the animals.
“Yeah, I’ll bring them back to the nearby town first thing tomorrow.” his comrade replied.
“We’ll be heading back now, then. Don’t waste any time.” With that, he signaled for you to follow him before heading off in the same direction his other companion did moments earlier.
For a brief moment, you debated on running. But one glance at the way the blond was monitoring your movements and the one ahead of you didn’t turn back to see if you were following him, you knew they were confident in stopping your escape.
So, you found yourself fighting against dangling branches and unearthed roots - an environment you were completely new to. You had never stepped foot off the palace grounds until now.
A bastard royal was not allowed to make public appearances unless it were balls held within their own castles. Even then, you only had a mere hour or so before the Queen was ushering you back into your bedroom chambers, cheeks flushed pink from lingering stares that followed your escaping figures.
It was after the umpteenth time you tripped on an uprooted tree branch, that the man in front of you spoke up.
“Here,” you looked up to see him offering a hand, “You’re slowing us down with all the clumsy steps you’re taking”
“I’m fine.” You brushed his aid away, refusing to accept anything from this criminal.
“Whatever Your Highness wants.” He rolled his eyes, continuing onwards. It’s quiet between you two, before he spoke up once more to your growing annoyance. “Can’t say I’m sorry for doing this, but I’m sure you understand our reasons behind it.”
“I can’t say that I do, unless you are looking to be paid handsomely for my return.” You spoke under the impression they all still assumed you to be your older sister. Otherwise, they’d get nothing more than a bronze coin for your return.
“What we want has nothing to do with money, although there is a large reward waiting for us.” His reply is quick and simple, confusing you.
“If it isn’t money you are aiming for, then what is the need for my capture?”
“Oh, well, that’s easy.” He halted, turning around to fully face you. “I want to stop a corrupt princess and her father from ruling this Kingdom.”

Your mind was thrown into a state of flight or fight, and you chose to do the latter. Bringing your arm forward, you pushed your elbow back into your intruder’s ribcage with all your might. He spluttered, clearly caught by surprise from your attack. His moment of pain is enough to allow you to slip from his grasp.
You lurched forward, fingers reaching for the candlestick on your nightstand. You were successful in grasping the item, and reeled away to face the man. Your eyes tried to fixate themselves on him, willing them to remember his features for future punishment you promised to bestow on him.
You mentally cursed his clever choice of wearing a mask to conceal most of his face, but the notable red hue of his eyes and red hair was enough for you to memorize at the moment.
You briefly noticed the curtains that concealed the doors to your balcony were gently blowing with the night’s breeze. So that’s how he got in.
“Please don’t make this any harder than it needs to be.” The man spoke out. Your fingers clenched firmly on your weapon’s handle and you posed it in front of you. “...Really? What is that going to do?”
“If it can hurt you even for just a moment, it’d bring me great joy.” You bit out despite the trembling of your arms. Your anxiety began to reach its peak and you feared he would notice.
“How brutish of you, princess.” He calmly laughed. “Listen, I don’t have much time left on the clock and I’ve got a horse waiting for us down at the edge of the gardens.” He took a step forward, continuing on, “you can either take this sleeping pill here and make this easy for both of us. Or… I can forcefully take you and have it easy just on my end.”
“Your propositions are refused.” You bluntly declined and he let out a snort of air.
“As if you have a choice in the matter.” He sighed out, moving once again, forcing you backwards and onto your bed.
At this point, you began to panic at the momentary entrapment. You remembered Bibimi hiding quietly and called out for her. “S-sister! Please, help me!”
The intruder stopped his movements to look around the room. He brought his focus to you seconds later, confusion laced in his voice as he asked, “Calling out to a ghost?”
Dread bubbled up inside you as you realized that your selfish being of a sister wouldn’t be moving out of her hiding spot to aid you. In the heat of the moment, you brought your knees towards your chest and lurched them forward, the pads of your feet landing directly on the man’s chest. The brunt action led to his fall while the momentum pushed you back, giving you enough force to roll off the opposite side of the large bed.
You hastily collected yourself off the floor and made your way to the bedroom’s door. Hope filled within you as you forced the door open and ran into the hallway.
“Guar-!” your shout died out with the view of another masked man in front of you. Unconscious guards littered the hallway as he stood in the center of the scene.
“Hi, princess.” He gave a wave with one hand that was unmistakably labelled as friendly while the other pushed his blond bangs away from his black eye mask. Your knees grew weak as the situation heavily dawned on you.
Making it a point to run the other direction, you turned only to collide into your previous intrude. You let out a terrified shriek, finally falling victim to the growing fear within you.
The man only shook his head as he grabbed your shoulders in a firm grip, “I told you we were on a tight deadline, Princess Bibimi.”
You had no time to question the name he’s called you due to the blunt force of his forehead meeting yours in a colliding attack - sending you into a black abyss.
♕♛♕♛
The first thing you noticed when you regained consciousness, is that the world is upside down. The second was that your wrists were painfully tied together and, lastly, you were draped over a horse’s saddle. Your legs and upper torso helplessly dangles over either side of the tanned mammal.
Panice arose in your chest as you turned your head to the side, finding another horse being ridden by one of your kidnappers - the blond. Your eyes screwed shut as a headache made its appearance. You blearily opened them once more at the sound of the blond man.
“Ah, I see the princess has finally awoken.” He teased, looking amused. “How was your peaceful slumber, sweetheart?”
You gave him the best dirty look a girl could while being upside down. It seemed to have no effect on him, unfortunately. Another voice chimed in, coding from the front of the horse you were riding on. You squirmed around to get a better view of the red-head that was hiding on the other side of the animal.
“I can imagine what kind of expression you’ve got there.” He commented and you glared at him, too.
“How inhumane it is to kidnap someone. Especially one of royal blood, no less.” You sneered at the duo.
“You want to talk inhumane?” The rider retorted. “How about you take a look at yourself in the mirror, Your Highness.”
You’re taken back by the sudden cruelness in his voice. What nonsense could he possibly be spewing? It’s then that you recalled that they believed you were Bibimi. You knew your sister to be temperamental at times, but never in the eye of the public. How could someone warrant a kidnapping for a bitchy princess?
“Anyway, we’re close to the hideout, so that means this will need to be going on.” The other man stopped the horse and strolled to the side where your head was. He presented a cloth, “This is going to have to cover those pretty eyes of yours for now.”
You attempted to shy away from his reaching hand but this only resulted in him gently gripping your chin. He cascaded the cloth over your eyes, and ensured the knot was secured.
Once more, you heard the blond speak up, “We’ve heard you like to pretend to be a good person. So, why not stay that way for a little while longer?”

There were many things that drove you to be against your kingdom’s ruler. He allowed his people to suffer in the throes of hunger whilst he dined on the richest of foods with neighboring authoritative figures. He had raised the tax rates by another two percent at the end of last year, driving many into debt and despair.
There was one thing you despise most of all when it came to the king. Being in the same bloodline as him was enough to make the thought of ceasing her existence seem enticing. Being related to the royal family was one matter, but being the illegitimate daughter of your kingdom’s ruler was another, more forsaken, one.
This title given to you from the moment you were born was like a witch’s curse. You were bound to living behind these colorful, gold-rimmed walls with outsiders not knowing of your very existence.
Yet at this very moment, you couldn’t help but allow the corners of your lips to curl in the smallest of smirks as you witness Princess Bibimi’s current outburst. This had been the pot of gold you had been waiting for in your nineteen years of living in this forsaken palace. If the redness in your sister’s face wasn’t an indication for her rage, then the entirety of her bedraggled appearance made up for it.
“For my twenty-first birthday, I am obtaining a husband?” she scornfully spat out, despite the warning look her mother sent her way. “A husband? From one of our rivaling lands, no less!”
“It’s a proposition that is too beneficial for our country to not proceed with.” The king sighed for the umpteenth time. From your seat near one of the frontal pillars, you could tell he was beginning to form yet another wrinkle upon his whitening brow. “You should be aware of this more than anyone else, Bibimi. You excelled in your political studies.”
You were on the verge of drowning out the remainder of the conversation, seeing as it was going nowhere in favor of your sister. The king’s word was final in every situation he placed himself in, and he had no exceptions, even for his own family.
The princess pointed an accusing finger towards you, “Why can’t you give her away, instead?”
Your breath stilled for a moment, the fire in your sister’s eyes brought a cold shiver in its wake. Nineteen was too young to be married off in the eyes of the royals, and Bibimi was well aware of the advantage the younger had on her.
“Now, now,” His Majesty waved a hand in dismissal, “you know how useless that would be.”
Ah, that’s right. There was one other advantage you had over your sister.
No one in their right mind would want a bastard royal as the next ruler on their throne. This taboo of a situation allowed you to slip away from arranged marriages, and other political affairs.
Clutching tightly at the skirts of her dress, Bibimi begged for her early dismissal from their king. He agreed with little resistance, tiredly shaking his head as he watched her storm off. He looked towards your direction, taking note of you fixing your slouched posture.
“Have you any objections to the upcoming arrangements?”
“None, Your Majesty.” You replied in a small voice, avoiding his beady stare.
“At least one daughter is happy.” He mused as he waved his hand, signalling for your own dismissal.
You stood from your seat and curtsied before hastily leaving the throne room.
♛♕♛♕
You decided to reside in the privacy of your chambers that night, quizzing yourself with neighboring countries’ former hierarchies. Your time alone was shortly lived when knocking resonated throughout the silence.
“Your Highness, please pardon the intrusion but Princess Bibimi wishes to speak with you.” Your personal maid announced upon opening the door, her face contorted into one of fear as your sister loomed behind her.
Bibimi pushed past the maid and ushered her away from the door only to promptly slam it shut.
“What brings you to this side of the palace, sister?” you greeted her, marking the page of your book before gently shutting it.
“Don’t ‘sister’ me,” she huffed out, elegantly sitting on your vanity’s chair. She pauses for a moment as she picks up one of your many combs to examine its design. “I cannot believe he is doing this.”
Here we go, again. You internally heaved a large sigh.
You stop yourself from correcting her misused address to your father. Instead, you offer a gentle smile, “You’ll have two lands under your disposal once both Kings pass on.”
“I don’t want any of that,” she whined, setting the comb down. Her long lashes fluttered as she feigned a pout, “Not at the cost of my own happiness.”
“I’m sure you will grow to be happy with the Prince,” you offered., only to be taken aback by the harsh scowl directed at you.
“Have you no clue of what’s going on? I’ve just heard the first prince is missing. I’m being wedded to the second eldest. He is merely a man in this situation.” This was also news to you. You wondered if this information was being kept hidden from the public. “If the older one was to suddenly emerge, I will have only one kingdom under my command.” Bibimi went on for a final comment, “The second son is not as handsome as the first, as well. I would have been more content if it were a different situation.”
You felt disgust grip at you upon hearing her words. Rather than replying to the materialistic words, you stayed quiet and continued to listen to her rant.
“For the King’s sake, why couldn’t we have the arrangement with Mirio’s kingdom instead?”
“Prince Mirio Togata?” you echoed.
“Who else, you dimwit.” She snapped, seemingly annoyed. “He’s the only prince I’d willingly bed with.”
“Bibimi!” You gasped, taken aback by the vulgar phrase.
“Oh, shut up. We can’t all be saints in this stupid palace.” She rose from her seat, smoothing out invisible wrinkles on her dress. “I’ll take my leave now as it is no use speaking with you and that fake innocence of yours.”
“Take care,” you weakly called out to her as she stepped out the door.
Mere seconds pass before Bibimi is reeling herself back into your room, slamming the door shut behind her as she looks back at you with widened eyes. The shoutings of guards as they scrambled out in the hallway caught your attention.
“Bibimi? What’s the matter?” you slipped off the bed, stepping towards her. “What’s going on?”
“Stay back.” She hissed, fiddling with the knob’s lock. “There’s an intruder in the castle.”
“What? Will father be okay?”
“Idiot, this is no time to think about that man. Help me find some place to hide.” Bibimi left the door to start pacing around your room, scrutinizing places to hide in or under.
With your fast-thinking, you guided her towards your large wardrobe, “Quick, hide in here.”
You aided her in stepping into the wooden furniture and tried to follow suit but felt her hands press against your shoulders. “No, you can’t come in here! Go somewhere else.”
Her forcefulness sent you to the floor and you watched in a daze as she closed the wardrobe doors, sealing herself fully from the public eye.
You mentally cursed at her, wanting nothing more than to grab her out of there and slap some sense into her. But doing so would waste precious time you needed for hiding away.
You’re in the process of crawling under your bed when arms are pulling you upright and a hand is cascading itself over your eyes to conceal your vision. You’re thrown into panic upon hearing a gruff voice whisper in your ear.
“I’ve got you now, Princess.”
